Luis Arnez came to us highly recommended for his cabinetry. The estimate went well and the price was right so we committed to getting our kitchen and bathroom cabinets designed by Luis. The contract called for half of the payment up front and the other half to be paid at the completion of the work. When we went to see the cabinets in his workshop and pick the stain color I noted that there were two cabinets missing as these had been discussed during the estimate. After this mishap, he made the two cabinets as he had said he would. Basically Mr. Arnez sells his services as a one stop shop, that he'll demo, install fixtures, anything you need. However what we learned was that he has an unreliable crew of people that he outsources for these jobs. To save money, we demo'd ourselves. Once this was complete, he was to install the cabinets. We became very familiar with his time schedule of being 4+ hours late to the job site. He was unreliable and then started asking for more of the payment money saying that he was needing more money up front for the job. The first time he asked, we really hadn't been having issues so we gave him more of the payment. But this became more frequent and we would get these sob stories about how he couldn't pay his workers. This was not our problem. He basically only started to show up so he could ask for money. When the cabinets were finally installed, one portion of the cabinets extended too far into the dining room. He then tried to blame us for measuring incorrectly. This was not our fault and we told him that he would now need to fix the tile in the kitchen and extend it to match the length of the cabinets. We told him that if he could find the same tile, we'd use that, otherwise he would have to pay to install new kitchen tile. The tile could not be found, he became increasingly unresponsive and yet continued to ask for more money. He showed up to put the cabinet pulls on just to ask for more money and the pulls were installed sloppily. The crew he hired to install the granite showed up and were angry that they couldn't drink on the job. They were going to leave with the granite only half done until we called and had Luis tell them it all needed to be done that day. They ended up leaving with some of our tools that day. At the end of this debacle, we received new cabinets, they are nice but definitely not worth the headache and drama that we went through for them. We did not give him the remainder of the balance owed because of the cost of the tile floor, the estimated cost to fix the cabinet and drawer pulls and any other problems associated with this job. We made the mistake of referring him to a friend at the beginning of the job, before things went south. They used him and had a worse experience than we did. They ended up having to pay more money when he disappeared in the middle of their installation. They tried to pursue legal action but Luis Arnez was no where to be found. This is clearly a situation where he has some issues that interfere with his work and the customer ends up paying the price. BEWARE!

An absolute nightmare. Mr. Arnez is not a licensed contractor and he is extremely pushy and unprofessional. He is a criminal , he takes peoples money and does not perform his duites. He is very manipulative and lies on a regular basis.
Description of Work: On June 31, 2011, we signed a contract for custom cabinets to be built and installed with Arnez Custom Cabinets located in Brea Ca.. Mr. Arnez required a 50% deposit to start the work. We paid the deposit and then waited several weeks unitl Mr. Arnez contacted us to approve the stain. At that time he asked if we would please advance him an additional $1000.00 because he had yet to purchase the doors for our kitchen. By mid August we had not heard from Mr. Arnez nor did he return our phone calls. On September 6 he informed us that he was going to be evicted from his shop ( where our cabinets were located) and could we please advance him $4000.00 to stop the eviction. We advanced him the money believing that he would stop the eviction and finish our work. We had begun to demolish our kitchen based on his word. He then delivered unfinished cabinets and a partial kitchen. He refuses to answer our repeated phone calls and when we drove to his shop we saw that it had been padlocked and there was an eviction notice posted by the Orange County Sheriffs office. I wish I would have done my homework and had investigated him further. Do not use Arnez Custom Cabinets or any company to which he is asssociated. After paying 90% for the job we now have a partial kitchen and unfinished wood.
