Mike did a fantastic job. The install looks great as does the refinished flooring. Very friendly and a competitive price.
Description of Work: Mike installed new engineered hardwood flooring through most of our house and refinished hardwood flooring in an additional room.

The company was pleasant to deal with. The work was barely competent. The floor's edges (next to curved walls or surfaces, or under cabinet overhangs in the kitchen) after refinishing had buildup of materials or were a different texture from the main part of the floor, which was smooth and clean looking. I asked for two of these edge areas to be fixed: under the kitchen overhang, where there was an unsightly buildup of wood dust and finishing materials, and next to a curved wall in the living room. The buildup of material was removed and the rough area in the living room is a bit less rough. However, in attempting to repair the edge in the living room the worker left highly visible splotches of finish radiating out into the rest of the floor. I did not ask to have this re-done a second time because the person who did it initially, and re-did it, did not appear able to do a proper job. The new stairways were done adequately, but the gaps between new stair and wall varied from excellent to barely passable. One landing, however, had large, unsightly gaps between the wall and new flooring. The company agreed to install trim to cover the poor workmanship. When they installed the trim they did only two of the three sides. I had someone else finish the job. The company installed a new register in the bathroom. The hole it cut in the wood was almost an inch too large in each direction. The register slides around because the opening is too large. The worker who installed the new stairs and landings often started late (11:00) and left early (before 4:30). There were times when he was unavailable due to personal problems (we were told) but no one else came to do the work. As a result, our entire renovation was delayed.
Description of Work: The provider refinished existing wooden floors (app. 850 sq ft) and installed wood (to replace carpeting on two stairways and landings.

The Floor Show did an OK job and had a great price. Everyone was very nice. Some issues though: The owners refused to get back to me via telephone - They would only reply to emails 24 hours later. I didn't feel like they really cared about doing a great job, but I didn't think they were totally blowing me off either. Picking up the phone once in a while will go along way They missed an appointment - enough said. They got it done eventually. Quality is OK - its on par with what I would expect to spend, but they could have cared just a little bit more. The threshold into the other room has gaps, some gaps between boards, etc. Nothing horrible, but not cherry either. I would only recommend them if you want an inexpensive refinishing job. Great people, they do OK work, but just not top notch service. Save some money and don't sweat the little stuff, right?

We had our hardwood floors refinished as part of a remodel. We have a large area of hardwood floor: living room, dining room, office and hall. We hired The Floor Show partially because of their ratings on Angie's List. We were very disappointed in their work. They didn't do a quality job, especially around the posts and edges, where they somewhat gouged the flloor by sanding too deeply. They didn't do a very good job making the finish coats look even. We also felt that they didn't buff the floors well enough after using the belt sander, leaving the floor with a slightly scratched look. Then they clear coated over the scratches, making them impossible to remove. The job was supposed to take a week, but because of the various problems, it took 2 weeks due to the many repairs. This was very inconvenient for us, since we had to go outside (in the rain) to go from our kitchen to the upstairs. But more importantly, it delayed our painters, contractor, and several deliveries by a week. In the end, the job looked okay, but it was definitely not a great job. I didn't enjoy having to point out problem areas, and feeling like I had to ride them in order to have a somewhat decent job.

Since I was working with a general contractor on a small house remodel, I didn't deal with Mike directly or interact with his crew while the work was being done. All of my contacts with Mike were via phone and after the job was completed. While Mike and his crew did a wonderful job on refinishing my floors, the problem was with the general contractor, who scratched and gouged the newly refinished floors on 3 separate occasions. Since this was clearly the general contractor's fault, he arranged to have Mike repair the damage done to my floors. In light of the extensive damage, Mike did a great job of fixing it. The general contractor caused some deep gouges (by pushing heavy furniture on the floor), which Mike wasn't able to get out completely; however, he certainly improved the appearance as much as was possible. Not only was I impressed by the quality of the Floor Show's work, but in Mike's professionalism when he himself pointed out some unevenly finished areas that he thought should be re-done. Usually he applies four coats of a water-based finish, but since the uneven spots didn't meet his standards, he offered to apply a fifth coat. The floors came out really beautiful, and that's when the general contractor damaged them. Clearly, the general contractor will never work for me again, but I would have no hesitations in recommending Mike and the Floor Show.
Description of Work: Mike Dunn of the Floor Show and his crew refinished all the white oak floors in my house, including the living room, dining room, hallway, and 3 bedrooms. They also matched and replaced some missing planks.
