emailed through Angies list, they replied the next day just asking me to call instead of replying to my inquiry over email. I called, they passed me around to 3 different people, none of whom were helpful and after the 3rd transfer it just ended in a voicemail. They never followed up after that. I asked them to reply over email and they never did.

So many other companies say they understand hydronic systems, think they do, but they really don't. I'm very glad I used L.J. Kruse. They really know what they are doing. Shawn the manager/estimator, and Bill the technician, both did a great job helping me with this repair. I recommend highly.

We are very pleased with our new Fujitsu ductless mini-split system, and especially its installation by the reputable L.J. Kruse Company. This "heat pump" based system, recommended by L.J. Kruse to replace our ancient small office HVAC system, sounded like magic at first. How could it extract heat from cold air, and vice versa? But it does! The cost of upgrading our old system, especially the thinly insulated, leaky duct work would have been cost prohibitive. L.J. Kruse did a great job installing this quiet, cost effective, energy efficient system. They weren't the bottom-feeding cheapest bid we received, but were surprisingly cost competitive. For a very few extra bucks, I got experienced, highly skilled craftspeople with lots of integrity. No contractor shortcuts trying to squeeze out a few extra bucks on the job. For the longevity of the system and my peace of mind, L.J. Kruse was absolutely the best call to install this terrific, magical Fujitsu system.

A disaster.
Description of Work: In the past, L.J. Kruse provided quality service and had a reputation to match. I inherited them when I purchased my house, they having serviced the hot water radiator system for many years. The quality of their work deteriorate, however, long before I became fully aware. The last two major projects they did was to remove the boiler for the house heat and the water heater, and replace them both with a dual service BaxiLuna tankless water heater. Superficially the work looked great, however the unit suddenly failed after about 6 years, leaving me with no heat or hot water. The failure was discovered on a Saturday morning, and weekends are not the time to require a plumber. I arranged for two companies to provide service, Kruse gave me the earliest appointment. The plumber they sent not only failed to fix it, but compounded the problem by short circuiting around a blown fuse, resulting in a burnt up circuit board. And then lied about his actions. I used the second plumbing company, Albert Lahman Plumbing, who I had not used before. They do good work. They discovered the many installation errors which inexorably led to its ultimate failure. They also removed and replaced the entire unit. The difference in service is remarkable. They also noticed a gas leak in an underground line run between the house and the "shop". The repair required two days work, an opening of the trench to access the buried pipe, and the failure of Kruse to even meet city code in the installation. The L.J. Kruse that was is no more. I cannot recommend their services for whatever your needs. Feel free to contact me for additional information.

They said the kind of toilet I had had been known to be defective. The toilet was very expensive and I just took what they had and I didn't shop around. I have seen cheaper toilets. I think the toilet was around $700 not including the work they did. I might use them again depending on what the job was.
Description of Work: I used LJ Kruse Company to replace a whole toilet because I had a leak.

Overall, the work got done by Kruse Plumbing to the satisfaction of the building inspectors, we got a permit and sold the property. The repair people kept several appointments, were efficient and on time. The dispatcher at the home office was very nice to work with. I do not blame these individuals. But the management of the company is clearly at fault in customer relations and work-related issues. That the owner of the L.J. Kruse Company could not even take the time to answer our letters or telephone us at our request is unforgiveable. Most of our dealings with L. J. Kruse Company were highly unsatisfactory.
Description of Work: The L.J. Kruse Plumbing Company installed a heat pump in my 90-year-old mother's residence in 2003 for $5248. It broke down in 2007 during December in 40 degree weather. The Kruse Company claimed they could not get a repairman out to fix it for 2 weeks. We had several increasingly emotional telephone conversations about this lack of service for an extremely elderly client. We bundled my mother up, hired round the clock care for her feeding and dressing and put portable heaters around her in a closed off room. When I threatened to sue them, they sent a repairman out within 48 hours to put a temporary system in to keep the heat on until they could return to fix it permanently. Subsequently, during January, February and March of 2008, we had continuing problems with different parts of the system and it took several visits to switch it over from a temporary to a permanent operation. Appointments were made and missed, communication with me was claimed but never received and charges were made for transportation to and from the residence. We were charged another $598 and $449 for work done. A warranty situation was never mentioned nor offered. We finally called in another heating repair company. When the system broke down again in early 2009, we called yet another repair company in order to avoid dealing with Kruse. In April of 2009, and after my mother passed away, we were prepared to sell the residence but learned that several features of the unit were not to code and that a permit had never been applied for when installed in 2003. We had no choice but to return to the original installer, L.J. Kruse. They claimed that the permit issue was our problem as the owners. We then went to another company to diagnose the problems, which they did without a fee. Escrow was being held up on the sale of the property. The other repair company told us that Kruse should fix the problems as they had done the installation. We very reluctantly called them to do the work to allow the heater to pass inspection. We were CHARGED a total of $1708.62 for the work they should have done in 2003 (& for the work they knew they would be doing to repair the unit). This included a CHARGE of $156 per hour for the estimate for the work! We were CHARGED for the permit which they should have obtained in 2003. Because we had had such a difficult time with a Kruse employee by the name of Janell Yates in 2007, in March of 2008 we attempted to contact the owner, who is a local 2nd or 3rd generation family member whom we had met socially. My attempts to contact him were passed along to this same Ms. Yates who has been often obstructive, argumentative and dismissive. During the final inspection and repair process in order to close the sale of the residence, Ms. Yates acted responsibly. She may have been cooperative because she knew her Company would once again have to correct the problems and was very aware that we had had an unpleasant relationship over the years. We attempted to reduce the final bill by the permit fee and the $156 per hour charge for the "estimate" time. Ms. Yates offered to discuss this bill in detail in a telephone message in order to defend the charges. By this time I was frustrated and exhausted by the entire 6 years of an exasperating and contentious affiliation with the Kruse Company. I simply could not ever deal with Ms. Yates again, I sent a check to close the account as I am so frustrated by all of their unprofessionalism. I hope to prevent others from using this plumbing company. I wrote a letter to the Company to that effect when I closed our account and paid the balance in full.

We contacted this company to diagnose and repair our four year old tankless hot water heater. [Note: This unit has a computerized self-diagnosis chip in the unit which provides information on malfunctions to repairmen and we provided them with a copy of the owner's manual with information on troubleshooting.] They sent one plumber and one trainee to perform the unit diagnostics. The plumber advised us that the problem was a broken flow sensor. He removed the flow sensor and told us that it would be "okay" to operate without it for the week that it would take him to order the new sensor and return to install it. THREE weeks later, he returned and replaced the flow filter. The total cost for labor for both visits (a total of 2 hours and 15 minutes) was $378. The flow filter part was charged at $163.95 for a total of $571.29 which we paid immediately. A few days later, our hot water went out again. Since a diagnostic was part of what we'd paid for on their first visit, we called the company and asked them to come back and right the work they had already been paid for. We told them we did not want to be charged for the visit since we'd just paid them $571 to diagnose and repair the problem. After some discussion (and at our insistence), they agreed that they would return and re-diagnose at no charge to us. Two men (the original plumber and a "supervisor") spent the better part of an hour running gallons and gallons of cold water down the drain (not good for a community under drought water restrictions) before finally referring to the manual which specifies that one of the first "troubleshooting" tasks should be to assess the gas flow at the meter. They finally told us that our problem was that our gas meter was too small and advised us to contact the utility company to have our meter replaced with one that provided greater flow. At that time, both my husband and I confirmed that we would not be charged for the visit and the supervising plumber confirmed that we would not be charged for the second diagnostic. Imagine our surprise when three weeks later, after having been very clear up front that we would NOT pay for the third visit for a diagnostic that should have been properly conducted in the beginning and receiving confirmation that we would NOT be billed, we received a bill for an additional $242 on January 2, 2009. I contacted the company today to tell them that there had been an error in billing us and the manager claimed that he had ever told us that we would not be charged. We are absolutely flabbergasted by the dishonesty of this company. We made every effort to be very clear about our expectations and we relied on their agreement with us that they would make right work that was not originally done properly at no additional charge to us.

THIS WAS MY SECOND INTERACTION WITH LJ KRUSE. THEY WERE PROMPT AND PROFESSIONAL. THE SERVICE PROVIDED CLEARLY EXPLAINED THE MALFULCTIONS OF MY TOILET. GAVE ME SEVERAL OPTIONS FOR REPAIR. DISCUSSED ALL AVAILABLE DISCOUNTS AND LEFT THE FINAL DECISION UP TO ME WITHOUT ANY BUYING PRESSURE. MY FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH L J KRUSE WAS FOR HEATING SERVICES. I CALLED 2 OTHER HEATING/COOLING COMPANIES IN THE AREA. THEY WERE UNFAMILIAR WITH MY HEATING SYSTEM. A FRIEND OF MINE RECOMMENDED CALLING L J KRUSE. THE OFFICE STAFF LISTEN TO MY PROBLEMS AND WERE IMMEDIATELY AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THEY SENT A VERY QUALIFIED SERVICE TECHICIAN WHO REPAIRED THE TROUBLED SYSTEM. WE HAVE HAD NO FURTHER ISSUES. I DO NOT HESTITATE TO CALL THEM WHEN I HAVE A PLUMBNG OR HEATING PROBLEM. THEY LEAVE THE WORK AREA CLEAN AND ARE COURTEOUS. THE BILLING IS ALWAYS WITHIN THE ESTIMATE GIVEN PRIOR TO WORK STARTING. THEY ARE NOT THE CHEAPEST IN THE AREA, BUT THE MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE AND PROFESSIONAL.

Horrible service. We were without hot water due to a broken fan. Company rep said he'd fix it in 24-48 hours. After not promptly returning phone calls, he finally repaired it 6 days later, so we were without hot water for nearly a week. The bill was double what he had originally quoted, and he insisted on immediate payment. His billing sheet showed inflated hours, and full price for the part ($600), which he had earlier said would be under warranty. When we politely asked to speak with the manager about the discrepancy, the tech threatened to remove the part and leave us w/o hot water. The manager promised to refund the cost of the part right away, since it was clearly covered under warranty. (We didn't mention the overcharge on hours; we felt intimidated by the threat to turn off the water.) We didn't get the $600 back until 5 months later, after many promises that the check ''was in the mail.'' An overpriced job that took too long with astoundingly bad and dishonest customer service.
Description of Work: Replace broken fan for on-demand water heater.
