Response from MISTER CHIMNEY CLEANING & REPAIRS, INC
Dear [member name removed], I am so sorry that you were unhappy with our work. You called and wanted to convert an old coal chimney into a working fireplace. When Martin went to your house you said for him to go inside if he was not there. Martin called and explained to you that he could only expand the firebox 4 inches larger and deep do to the structure of the chimney – he could not put in a damper as the opening was too small and that you could only use one compressed log each time you had a fire. You agreed that this would be fine and we would charge you $2,000.00. You never said anything about fixing the facial which is different from the firebox. But you asked Martin and he did reinforce the facial with a lintel bar and replaced the bricks that were falling down on the facial and he also patched all the exposed cracks on the facial at no charge. You spoke to Martin and also wanted tile on the facial but that would was not included in the $2,000.00. You called and said you were unhappy and uncomfortable talking with Martin as he seemed defensive – Martin called you back and apologized that you felt that way but he was not being defensive but just was explaining the situation – you told him you wanted another opinion from a different chimney company and Martin said that was fine but would like to be present when this happened so he can explain what he was hired to do – then you will pay us the $2,000.00. We did clean this chimney, and installed a double wall stainless steel chimney cap on a different chimney that you own plus did extra work at no charge. We want our customers to be happy and I called you the other day and said we would put in a top damper with no cost to you – I have not heard from you to date. Please let us know when we can put in a top damper for you and collect the total payment of $2,000.00 still owed for our repairs. Thank you, Linda Green, Office Manager
