I believe the price was fair and the financing fair also, based on my credit. Anyone buying a used RV should be aware of any defects they see on the unit and make sure they are discussed in full detail during the time the deal is being made. Where I went wrong was to trust the vague references by salesman to the obvious defects/problem areas on the unit I bought. The salesman said "we are aware of that" when it came to the visible problems, which I took to mean "we wouldn't sell it to you like that". I was mistaken in my interpretation, so that is my fault. However, another salesman told me that they would take care of the obvious defect before delivery. I was also told that at the time of delivery, I would get a walk through and could bring up any problem areas that concerned me, and those would be corrected. When I took delivery, I pointed these areas out. The service department representative was not as reassuring as the salesman about correcting these problems. He did write my concerns down, but I was never contacted. To follow up, I went to the dealer and asked to see the sales manager. He called the salesmen in who I said I worked with and one of them said straight up that he told me the defects would be corrected. Despite this, he told me that I was more or less out of luck and he could not take care of the defects without some money coming out of my pocket, because he would lose money on the deal. I suggested he should train his salesmen not to make promises that were not valid. In the end, he said he would split the cost of the repairs with me. He felt this was fair, but I did not. I basically felt hoodwinked by the sales department. Despite his sales staff making these statements and having the guts to say to him that they did promise to fix the defects, he essentially told me I couldn't believe everything I was told, and he was not going to lose money on the deal. Perhaps this poor way of doing business is due to the fact that the sales manager's passion does not seem to be selling RVs, but rather, writing books about ocean fishing vessels and their crews. In any case, upon being offered this "fair" arrangement, I asked him to put it in writing, because I had apparently been remiss in making sure that what I heard the sales staff say was the same as what was being said. He looked at me as if I had insulted him. He refused, saying something to the effect of his word being his bond. Being as I had already taken the word of the sales staff and seeing how that had worked out, I opted not to have the repairs performed at this dealer. I did ask several direct questions during my walkthrough. These included "did you change the engine oil?" I was told yes. I also asked if the generator had been serviced, and again was told yes. When it came time to change the engine oil, I found that the oil was filthy. I had only driven the coach perhaps 1,200 miles at that point. The air filter was also filthy, and had pieces of tree bark and other debris in it. I had not driven the coach into any wooded areas. I had put only interstate, urban, or suburban miles on it, all on paved streets or roads. Furthermore, I changed the oil on the generator, and it too was filthy. The generator air filter was also filthy. I had not used the generator at all except to do the monthly run as suggested in the manual. In short, I believe I was lied to about what service was done on the coach as well. My advice to any buyer is to do thorough homework before you buy an RV that is used. Open the hood, check the oil, look under the coach to see if there are any leaks, check the air filter, look at the tires, make sure they are free of dry rot or excessive wear. During the sales process, you may be told that the unit comes with a butler. Get EVERYTHING you are told in writing. If the dealer has a problem with you crawling under the coach or inspecting the generator/engine oil (if applicable), go somewhere else. I would not return to RV Peddler for sales or service. I do not recommend this dealer to anyone.
