About us

Self employed and I do most of the work myself. I do use sub-contractors, but I supervise all the work to be done to my specifications. I do charge a diagnosis fee because I want you to get the best diagnosis. You wouldn't ask your doctor to diagnose you over the phone without doing some blood work and a visual examination, would you? I then do the following: I take a history of the tree, and then I do a compaction test, pH, soil and moisture test, I test for sun scald, I also test to see if your trees are planted too deep, I look for signs of insects, fungus, and Slime Flux Disease, I check to see if your sprinklers are hitting the trunks of your trees, because this can cause your trunks to rot, I use a Shigometer to test the blood pressure of your tree to determine if the tree can be saved, I then sit down with my client to explain completely what the diagnosis is, which can take an hour or more. In addition, I have to have 30 hours of continuing education to keep my licenses valid.

Michael is a Certified Arborist, a Qualified Applicator (QAL), a Master Gardener, and a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. We offer a complete diagnosis of our client's yards. Michael has taught classes and seminars on horticulture at Bakersfield College, CSUB, at PAPA and CAPCA meetings. The Monji family has won over 30 landscape trophies for excellence through the Calif. Landscape Contractors Assoc.

Description of Work: Monji is a professor at the local college. He obviously knows a lot about trees, but he only talked about the treatment. I later found that I learned more from nursery stores than him. The work performed by his 2-men team was not detailed enough. For a total of 2 hours work by his team and his first visit about 40 min, his charge is way above other professionals I hired later.

Dear Mrs. [Member Name Removed]: I am sorry that you were unhappy with our service. We strive to give the best service we can. I don't know if the nursery person came out to your home to do a complete diagnosis or just gave recommendations to your problem. You live in a very alkaline and rocky soil, and your 40 Itallian Cypresses and Redwoods were very old and in disrepair. I told you that they needed special treatment to restore the health, because the limbs were not able to hold up the branches. I also stated that they were not being watered properly so I suggested that you call a sprinkler repair person. I also stated that the water was running off and was not penetrating deeply to truly benefit them. I suggested that Penmax and Liqua-Jip should be applied to open up the soil and leech the excess salts. I also said that borers were present and they would need to be addressed to slow them down. When I did your treatment I told you that the temperature was not condusive to treat at that time, and they should have systemic injections to treat the borers at a later date. I know the nursery person probably told you to use a systemic through the soil, but I have used that product in the past and did not get the desired results. In conclusion, I have over 80,000 hours of research and in the field experience, and we are the only company that uses a Shigometer to test the sap flow inside your trees to give you the best diagnosis. I get paid not on how much we do or how long it takes, but for my knowledge and expertise. I am the only Certified Arborist that supervises all the work to be performed to ensure you get the best job. I am sorry that we could not satisfy you.

Description of Work: This certified arborist made a diagnosis of the health of my trees using his instruments and recommended treatments to keep them in good health. He supervised the pruning of the trees and provided nutripaks. The work was performed in a very professional manner.

I was looking for licensed arborists but I didn't realize their service was based out of Bakersfield, which was a bit too far for me. That was my fault for not checking, but Michael was very helpful and gave me what advice he could over the phone which was a big help.

ISo far we have been working with Monji since last summer, planning and they have been designing our project. We have been happy so far with the long range renderings and plan. Work will begin in April 2015. We have been very pleased so far with all the planning, drawings and meetings to get this large project underway. "Invest, don't spend" is the byword. Quality and asthetic are what we are investing in as well as Monji's long and illustrious reputation for Quality.
Description of Work: Assessed and designed backyard re design and will accomplish Phase I in April. Very professional, spent a lot of time working with us to design the reflective and meditative landscape we desire. Since we are familiar with their work all over town and have confidence in Dan Monji to complete all to our satisfaction I am willing to write a favorable review of our experience so far.

Mr. Monji returned our call as soon as he was back in town (We were told he was out of town for a day). He informed us it was a 60.00 dollar consultation fee, which we completely understand. Mr. Monji was prompt on his time. He completed many tests on our Redwood trees. (They are all starting to turn brown even after our excellent care). He was extremely professional and informative. He gave us lots of professional suggestions and was very honest about the outcome of the treatments needed to save the trees. My husband and I were very happy with his services and will definitely use him again. Although, next time we'll call him before we put in 25 trees!

WOULD ONLY COME OUT FOR A $60 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND THEN WOULD CHARGE DEPENDING ON WHAT TYPE OF SPRAY WE NEEDED.

Mike is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to trees, lawn and a host of other items related to your yard. He treated our old trees and does on going maintenance with our fertigator that he installed for us. If you are serious about having it done right and don't mind paying for knowledge and good work then Mike is your guy!
