Tierra Verde Landscape and Masonry Inc.

Paul and his crew did a great job! The project was installed on time and on budget. This is the second landscape installation Tierra Verde has installed for me and I will call on them again when I have another project. The crew is very thorough and delivers top quality work, they really know their trade. I highly recommend Tierra Verde Landscape and Masonry Inc.

Paul provided me with a quote for some non-essential work I was interested in completing. He provided a reasonable quote, offered other ideas for what I thought I wanted, and was always professional in his follow-up. Was not at all pestering like some contractors can be.

Paul was very responsive. Very nice guy- game out, gave us an estimate which was at the top end of what we wanted to pay but still in the ball park. He was on time and responsive. We went with another contractor due to scheduling. Paul was busy during the time we wanted to have to work done. I would have gone with him had he not been busy.

Started out just fine. Called Tierra Verde based on the majority of positive reviews from Angie's List and this being a local vendor. I had just purchased a home and knew several sprinkler valves had been installed incorrectly (below ground) and were constantly leaking. The owner (Paul) came out to look at the valves and confirmed that they were installed incorrectly and needed to be replaced. He seemed very knowledgeable and we were on the same page as to what needed to be fixed. I asked for an estimate and he said and quot;about $400and quot;. Seemed a little on the high side to replace valves but I wanted them done right so I agreed. The work was done over the course of 2 days because Paul told my wife he needed to let one area around the valves dry out and he didn't have some of the correct parts. I looked everything over and was satisfied with the job once complete. The disappointment came when I received the invoice by mail a week later for $765.38! Nowhere near the $400 estimate. I don't expect estimates to be spot on but I do expect people in their respective fields to be in the ballpark when quoting jobs. I do not consider 191% from the original estimate to be anywhere near ballpark. Nothing had changed since the original visit to my house to quote the work. Therefore, there were no new factors that would have caused a change in the scope of work. In addition, Paul mentioned to my wife that he had to make additional trips to get the correct parts. Why should the customer be penalized for this? In summary, I was happy with how the work turned out but completely mislead in the cost.

I contacted this company with from their web e-mail and by calling (hint calling during work hours is better). It probably took a week and a half between the first contact and the appointment date for the company came over and evaluate the yard, but this was not a problem for me. I found Paul, the owner, friendly and easy to work with. He offered an honest opinion about the situation, both with regards with my yard and the type of services he can offer. Unfortunately, I live just outside his regular yard work service area, which can probably be best described about 5 miles around the Pasadena to Azusa area of the San Gabriel Valley. However, he would be able to send his tree specialists to remove my ridiculous Ash tree and trim two of the trees in the front. His team even did a bit extra trimming of some brush. Sounds like his team already has a full plate, but I think it would be worth at least to consider this company for estimates of Tree Services, Landscaping, or Sprinkler work especially if you live within his service area mentioned above. Overall, I was satisfied.

They were pretty good. They didn't charge for the quote. They were responsive.

On April 13, 2009- I contacted Angie's list to request a list of some strong landscaping contractors in my area. Tierra Verde was one of them and I attempted to contact them by leaving a voicemail that day. I left a msg for Paul Jr and hadn't heard back for a few weeks. On April 30th, I get a call from Paul Sr., and he apologized for the lack of follow-up from his company- Stated his son was in school, but he would be working with me from that point forward. I told him that it was fine and I that I understood-no prob. We agreed then to have him come to my house approx 10am on Sat 5/2. Paul Sr. calls me @ 5pm on Friday to tell me that he has a prior engagement on Saturday morning, but that he would be able to swing by my place approx 1:30-2p. I told him to call me on my cell to see if we would be available. He agreed and we left it at that. On Saturday, my family hung out around the house to wait for Paul and get his quote. No call by 3pm. We figured he was running late and expected some sort of call a little later, but never heard from him that evening. The next day came around and I figured he might have just forgotten about us and would probably hear from him before the weekend was over. Again, nothing. And so on- Here it is, Wednesday, May 6th and still no call from Tierra Verde. It really is too bad it turned out this way- My wife and I looked forward to seeing what magic this company can do for our yard (as seen on TV), but I guess we'll never know. Business must be booming? Paul, if you're reading this- I truly hope you're okay, but a word of advice - Follow-up with your potential business- otherwise, it gives them a taste of what may come ahead -and it doesn't taste very good. Thanks anyway.

The project went very well overall. I researched many landscape contractors in the area before choosing Paul. He was the only landscape contractor in my area that was licensed, fully insured, who has a business office, and who owned all the heavy equipment that was needed for this job. I found Paul to be very knowledgeable, he had ideas that worked well for me. His crew and office staff were pleasant and easy to work with. When I hired Paul, I got a high quality team that truly transformed by yard!
