Asked for my money back. Finally they agreeded thanks to Jeff L who is the only one in that company who you can talk to. Still wanted to charge me for the yearly membership. I said you mean the one that makes me a priority to get service? I said I want that back too. Told me check was going in the mail. One week and still no check. Called again only to be told check is in the mail. When I got mad the girl was very smart with me. I called home depot and they said they can't treat you that way because that is not how we do business. Home depot called them and had to leave a message. I will never buy another service through Home Depot again. So I wait for the " check that is in the mail". Is no company honest anymore?
Description of Work: Rep. Stopped us at home depot and offered us a complete furnace check up for 22.00. Said they were One Hour Heating and AC. Smart 72 shows up and when I asked about name they said they were better. Said we need more return air and it would cost over a thousand dollard with membership that would make us a priorty customer. Waited the next 6 weeks and many phone calls and still no service

We called for an inspection of our air conditioning/heating system, knowing that it was an older unit. The technician was on time as promised. He said that there was many problems with the unit that needed "immediate attention" He called his supervisor because he could not give us an estimate for the repairs. The supervisor came up with an estimate of more than $15,000 and we were told that it should be done immediately. We chose another company that will be doing the same exact work for less than $10,000.

In the end, I decided to get a new ultra premium furnace and all new duct work. I feel really good about the whole thing. The furnace is super quiet. We don't even know it's on. It's 98% efficient, and the building inspector said he wished his own house's furnace install had been so good. There's even an alarm to indicate if there's any leaking. The return air duct is now sized right. The installers were efficient, clean, and very pleasant. I had them back to do more duct work in the kitchen.
Description of Work: Checked and reported on condition of furnace and duct work.

The workers arrived on time, put on protective foot wear and prepared my home with floor coverings. They reviewed the work that was going to be done and worked very efficiently. Part way through the day, the manager came by to check on the men's work. The project took most of the day and when finished all work was cleaned up nicely. I was very pleased with the work that was done and impressed by their professionalism.
Description of Work: Removed existing single wall unit and installed new double sided wall furnace, new vent pipe, new spacer plates, new gas shut off valve and fan assist on top of back side of furnace. Drywall and wood paneling was removed to accommodate all parts. Drywall and paint was contracted out by this company.

Job went well and the technician seemed very capable. Showed me what he said was some problems with the unit and said I would have to replace the part in the next few years. Gave me an estimated cost of a new furnace. Did a good job of laying down tarps to catch dust/dirt and made sure parts didn't get on the carpet. Cleaned up the area before leaving.

I set up an appointment for a house that I had just purchased. Because it was a recent purchase my billing address was different than the house that the inspection was to take place at. I made a point of explaining this when I made the appointment and pointed this out again when they called to confirm the appointment a couple of days before the appointment date. So the guy shows up at my billing address on the day of the appointment. Had to reschedule. The guy shows up the next day and proceeds to bad mouth the installation of the heater he was to inspect and tells me it needs to be replaced and that One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning is the only company that does a good job of installing heaters. He came across as insincere and I felt I wasted my time and money.

Quick version: This company lacks any real professionalism or customer-centered view and are out to wring high margin profits out of unsuspecting customers. Full version: I was notified that a multi-point inspection special was on offer from this company through Angie's List. I thought that it would be useful to pay for the inspection in my new home. I paid for the inspection visit and awaited an appointment from the company. Within a few days they contacted me and arranged a date and two-hour window. They assured me that I would be contacted as the technician was heading to my home so that I could make the short journey from work and meet them. On the day, I was alerted at the top of the hour by a national call center that the technician was at my home. They knew nothing about the arrangement agreed whereby I would be given a ten minute window. I ran home to find .... no one. After twenty additional minutes (thirty into the two hour window for the appointment) I contacted the national service center. They dropped my call, but phoned back to tell me that the technician was on their way. Fifteen minutes later the technician arrived. The technician was friendly, courteous, and set about inspecting the furnace. After some twenty minutes, the inspection was complete and the technician asked to share their findings. Three issues had been identified. Part of the 2006 furnace itself needed to be insulated, at an estimate of $358.00. The blower drum needed to be cleaned, amazingly enough, also at a cost of $358.00. The capacitor for the blower motor was at 9.46 and needed to be replaced. When I asked for more information on this capacitor I was told the following: It should be 10, the technician didn't know what units the readings were in, and that when it reached 9.4 the furnace would cease working. To fix was $153.00 for a new capacitor. I hesitated and the technician told me that the capacitor was the one item he deemed critical, but that I could wait for the furnace to fail and he would return to fix it afterwards, I would only be out of heat for the period to arrange a return. I asked about the warranty on the new capacitor to understand what my investment of $153.00 would get me in order to keep my furnace working. He responded that if the capacitor failed sometime in the next year, he would return and replace it for free. Nothing in writing. Despite my misgivings, I proceeded to authorize the replacement. He finished the job in under ten minutes. I asked him to leave the old capacitor and he hesitated, but upon my insistence he left it. I paid him a total of $193.00 for the replacement of the capacitor, parts and labor (< ten minutes). I immediately went to the internet to look up this part. Here is a link to the part on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/97F9002-Volt-Oval-Capacitor-Upgrade/dp/B00EUGJ7FO It costs $11.52 at the time of this review. The company charged me some 12x the cost of the part on amazon. They charged my $40 for labor for the replacement. Here is the youtube video showing how to do it yourself < two minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPIZEFzalgI I phoned the company within twenty minutes of the technician leaving to express my alarm and regret. I was pushed between multiple staff at the national call center, who told me that they were unable to reach anyone at the local office to deal with my complaint. Nonetheless, they would make certain that management at the local office would reach me within the next 24 hours to deal with my "understandable concerns". 24 hours later, I have had no contact. So, I just phoned the company again and this time got the local office. I asked them to look up my account. They did so. I asked if they had anything to say to me. They told me that they knew that my furnace had just been inspected and my capacitor replaced. I asked about a note for management to call me. Nothing. I asked to speak to management. They resisted for a bit but relented and put me on hold. Three minutes later they returned and told me that unfortunately there was no management available. I queried that. I was told that management all left the local office at 4:00 p.m. It was now 4:45 p.m. I am disgusted with this company. They scammed me, straight and simple. They gouged me with a 12x margin on an easily accessible part and charged my a high rate for a job that was a fraction of the job that they had already been paid to complete. They misdirected me when I complained, promised me followup but didn't act upon any of it, and put me into a hold pattern when I persisted, avoiding any accountability. Avoid this company. Avoid One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning. Use anyone else, it will be a better result for you.
Description of Work: Agreed to do a multi-point inspection and clean elements of the furnace. Upon inspection, identified and recommended solutions to three "problems" with the furnace for significantly more money.

The install didn't take long. It was wasn't worth the $8464.00. I have to pay for the next 84 months. Vendor said he was going to give me a deal. Yeah right! for himself & the company. It must have been 200 dollars in labor for 3 hours and there was 3 guys. The unit itself cost 1,200 I found out from a person from work who works in the boiler house for the state. Yes, I got taken!
Description of Work: I called for the 22-point check for 39 bucks. But the provider said I need a new heater. I should have done the 3 vendor rule and talked to some of the guys at church. I spending money I don't have...Im very disappointed. Always have a GUY there with you if your a single woman.

Very well. The technician was a little late so they gave me the service at half-price. He spent considerable time going through the heating system including assessing heat output at each of the vents in the house, and checking and servicing the furnace. A second technician showed up to assist and answer questions about options to improve the airflow in one room. He went into the attic and checked the duct going into that room. He identified the problem and offered options to correct the problem. No pressure to do anything. I would recommend this company, particularly if the knowledge and skill of the other technicians are as good as these two technicians, Kyle and John. I can see why Costco has partnered with this company. i

The next day 2 men arrived, one very personable the other made me uneasy. They poked around the property for a bit before the personable one disappeared, apparently for a family emergency. The remaining salesperson proceeded to bring out a humongous notebook with never ending options and payment plans. ..talking about ffollow up visits etc I was completely overwhelmed before he started his speech. It was a very uncomfortable situation. He even promised (even though I refused the offer) to return the next morning with a space heater, it was very cold for my grandma around that time. I wasn't surprised when he didn't show, and was even glad...but it was an unprofessional thing to do.

The first availability they had was 2 weeks out, but I took it. They gave me the options of numerous THREE (3) HOUR blocks of time. Guess they need to change their name. i was told I'd get a call when the day of the service about the tech's arrival time, I did not recieve that call. The tech arrived and did the evaluation. I read their eval noise later that day after I got home: "bad bearing noise coming from inducer (sp) motor" "ignitor very week and needs to be replaced A.S.A.P." "return air duct too small for size of furnace" "Clean, Fresh, Healthy Air" check marked NO. This had me concered, what wasn't clean or fresh or healthy and how much is this going to cost to tget it fixed?!? I called them the next day and I was told i would get a call back that day, guess what, no call. I called back the next day, and the person who answered the phone didn't know what to do and was waiting for her supervisor. She asked if she could call me back, I agreed. When she called back she offered to have the tech come to the house in anothe THREE (3) HOUR block. Well it jsut so happens that it was my son-in-law's birthday and I didn't think we would be around the house during that time frame. Weekends are a bad time to schedule work at our home. She asked about a weekday, I explained I work in another city and I am not home before 5 pm. I asked if the tech could come to talk to me at my office, she said NO they would have to come to the home. they do perform service in the town I work in as well. I asked if the tech could give me a call, she said NO they are in the field they have to come to the home. Really you can't make a phone call. I asked if there is some else who could call me, she said no the tech would have to come to your home. I got the distinct impression, IMHO, they just didn't want to help me , so I said, words to the effect of 'well I guess I'll just throw this away and go somewhere else.' The bill is marked "TOTAL AMOUNT DUE $0" that is about the value I'd place on this service, we will see if I get a bill in the mail. I am relly sorry I didn't check Angies List first!

We appreciate your feedback, and we are very sorry that your experience was not a positive one. We are very sorry that we were not able to see you, but we always do our business to work our schedules around our customers, even in the season where we experience a high call volume for systems that are not working, which tend to take priority because we want to make sure everyone has heat. If you would like to give us another chance, please call our General Manager, David Hazel, at (805) 539-2756 and he would be glad to help you. As it pertains to your bill, there will be no charge since service was not provided, so you will not see a bill in the mail from us. Thank you again for your feedback.

Our 26 year old furnace was failing to ignite. I had seen a One Hour ad for a $49 maintenance. I called and the technician arrived at the house, took the furnace apart and said that he would call his supervisor because it appeared that the furnace was a "hazard." He said that only the supervisor could make such a declaration. The night was very cold and the house was freezing, so naturally we were very concerned. The supervisor came, he confirmed that our furnace was a hazard, shut it down, and then he changed into a high- powered salesman. After showing us a number of options he said that One Hour could replace our furnace and a/c for the "bargain" price of $17,000 after a series of discounts would be applied. After getting over the shock of such a high price we decided to get at least two other estimates. The next estimate, for exactly the same brand of furnace and a/c was for $10,500. The third estimate, which we ended up taking, was for $5,400. And guess what? Both of these companies said that there was nothing wrong with our old furnace except old age and that it should never have been declared a hazard! The lesson here is: be suspicious of anyone who says your furnace is hazardous, confirm this with other technicians, and always get at least three estimates from reputable dealers before you invest in a new heating and a/c system.
Description of Work: He disassembled the furnace, declared it hazardous, and then spent two hours trying to sell us a new furnace and a/c.

Polite people but I am looking to replace my furnace or upgrade it's performance. I had to pay them a service call fee to get them to look at my problem. so didn't do. Other furnace companies don't charge for evaluating and quoting you. I do know it costs money to send a guy out, but competitors don't charge.
Description of Work: I responded to a Costco located sales pitch. I didn't need a service; but did want an estimate on repair or replacement. Phone rep called promptly and professionally, Unfortunately their policy is to charge for estimates of this nature. The competition doesn't.

I arranged with a representative at Costco in Santa Maria, Ca to have the Atascadero, CA office call me to set up an appointment for their $59 maintenance inspection. I said I wanted to have the furnace serviced & also said I also wanted to get an estimate for a new furnace. I was told that they would send a senior technician who could do both. The technician arrived on time. He was pleasant & said that there was a part that should be replaced for $125. I said that I couldn't see replacing a part in a 32 year old furnace. Then I asked him for an estimate for a new furnace. He hadn't been informed of that & called the office. They tried to get hold of someone to come give an estimate but there wasn't anyone within a couple of hours so another time had to be set up. That was a real inconvenience as I made a specific request to have both done at the same appointment. They did send a Senior Technician but he wasn't authorized to give me an estimate. ( The technician tried to sell me a maintenance agreement for $14.99/month which included Ben Franklin Plumbing draining my water heater once a year & a maintenance inspection of the furnace. That's about $180/year. That's not much of a deal.). I declined. I was told the estimate appointment would take 90 minutes which I questioned. Why so long just to give me an estimate when their tech already knew what kind of furnace I had. The same technician & a comfort advisor arrived on time. I was given a long presentation, pages flipped in binders, shown certificates & told about guarantees, etc. that to me, are virtually worthless for a brand new furnace that should last 30 years. The comfort advisor was equivalent to a "closer" attempting to close a deal with lots of pressure AND refused to give me a written estimate. I had to make notes of prices after he said he couldn't give me an estimate because they didn't want their prices "out there." I was told if I signed today I could have furnace installed Monday and they would give me $500 off. The pressure was extreme to sign then & he also tried to sell me the maintenance plan. I said that I didn't do business that way. I couldn't believe his refusal to give me a written estimate. He also used Costco's reputation as a basis for One Hour being reputable or Costco wouldn't partner with them. They also partner with Home Depot, Lowes & were working on areal with Orchard Supply, so BEWARE! Their estimate for a basic replacement furnace was TWO & A HALF TIMES what I paid with a local contractor, Belluz Heating & Air Conditioning in Lompoc, who I highly recommend. Get at least a couple of estimates when having something like this done so you know if the pricing is fair or highway robbery. Do not fall for pressure sales.
