Inspector refused to do scheduled whole home inspection because he didn't have enough time today. I took time off of work to be at home to talk with home over this typical 90 minute process, and he refused to do it. He also arrived 25 minutes early. Talked to Key Termite, and their scheduler was unable to assist any further - worthless. Don't work with Key Termite.

Response from Key Termite & Pest Control Inc
I am sorry that you had this kind of experience with us as this is not how we conduct business. That particular day the original inspector you had coming out had called in sick so we squeezed the appointment in with another inspector in attempts to accommodate your needs. We were not able to contact you to let you know what has transpired as all prior communications with you were by email. I am sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you and if there is any I can do please do not hesitate to call me directly. Tyler Bennett

Excellent. They explained the process thoroughly. They were there on time. The tenting was fast and efficient. They removed it when it was scheduled. The Gas Company was also prompt. No hitches.

Showed up a day late (which made use have to pay for an additional night in a hotel). Did not care about the safety of the gas company guy who was scheduled to inspect the house (he was not informed about the late start). Termites were not fully irradicated.

This is a company with commitment to solve and maintain my pest free home. There is excellent communication through the office and with Pete who services my home. He has followed through to be sure the black widow problem is resolved so my little dog has had no more dangerous bites. He listens to my concerns and addresses each one. Finally, the cost is so reasonable compared with other services. The best pest control service!

Description of Work: I had a rat infestation in the attic space of my granny unit. They have been treating the property for rats (spiders as well) and no signs of them remain. I rarely see the service agent but when I met him in the beginning, he was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Description of Work: I am in a mobile home and he did not go under the home although access was provided... the reason for the grade of B... The termite debris I found in living room trim may be old and from when the last people bought this home 5 years ago... no more has been seen although I have painted every inch of this house..so since there is no attic they were not able to look above the ceilings.

Inspected house and submitted a bid to do a great deal more work than I thought was required. Other pest control company did the job and limited scope to issues that I thought were important. Key did not contact me to discuss their bid and why the scope was so much greater than the competition. Also, the area that I had most concern with was ignored by Key. This happened to be a local infestation and leaking pipe inside my wall. It has been repaired.

During the inspection they totally missed the termite damage in one of the bathrooms as a result of which I had to have the bathroom replaced. The person who handles the gopher and ground squirrel problem has done an outstanding job. The whole population of gophers and ground squirrels is just about wiped out. I would use them again in the future only for gopher control and not for termites.
Description of Work: I used Key Termite & Pest Control Inc for termite inspection when I bought the house and I am currently using them for a big gopher and ground squirrel problem. I have had two contacts with them.

Regarding the dry rot: When i called to complain, a manager was sent out. He was defensive and condesending. i am a woman and I am pretty handy, but he spoke down to me and tried to badger me. I had a lawyer and a good case at this point, but he told me Quote: and quot;you don't have a legal leg to stand onand quot; i will never forget that. I argued that i had pictures and evidence of negligence on their part. He offered to rebuilt our rotted wall and floor but wanted to charge us more than the contractors we had already hired were. I told him that was a rip off and based on the poor performance of the other employee's i didn't really want him working on our house either. He took off with out resolving anything. I had my lawyer call the office and the owner himself came out the same day. He was much nicer (maybe the lawyer helped with that?) and apologized for his manager. Her surveyed what used to be our bathroom, now bare joists and no wall. He stood by the story that there was no dry rot visible during the inspection. I showed him the pictures taken from the crawlspace showing the rotten sillplate. He still maintained that it was in an 'inaccesible area' even though i accessed it just fine. In the end we were able to reach an agreement: He did not want to give me cash for business and insurance reasons, which i understood and i did not want to go to court as i already had my hands full with the repair work and other issues. The house still needed tented to treat the termites in the rafters and attic, but we didn't have the money for it. Also, two rafters need replaced due to termite damage. They agreed to do both at no charge. The total for this work would have been no where near what our repairs were, but i do acknowledge that based on the sill plate and threshold alone, they couldn't possibly have known how extensive the damage was. I felt this was as close to fair as i could get without taking them to court. There were several hiccups along the way, but once we delt with the owner i felt that things resolved themselves satisfactorily. I would not hire them again, however, becasue the workers needed such close supervision to complete their jobs and had to be called back a total of 4 times before the work was completed. For the record: I rather harshly warned them that i would be very unhappy if i found termites after the tenting. We replaced our roof a few month later and are happy to say that there were no living termites to be found in the attic, rafters or roof deck. At least they got that right.
Description of Work: performed a pest inspection prior to purchase of our house. found termites, but failed to identify massive amounts of dry rot (which they were also inspecting for). Granted, most of it was in the walls where it could not be seen, but the sill plate was rotting and could be seen clearly from the crawlspace. The area of rotted sill plate was in the bathroom and, to a professional, should have indicated water damage aka dry rot in the wall above it. At the very least, they should have notice and pointed out that a major structural member was rotten. Also, the wooden door threshold was completely soft/soggy with dry rot - they pointed it out, but did not inform us that dry rot spreads and this could be an indicator of more extensive hidden damage. We were first time home buyers and were relying on their expertise to advise us and i feel that they dropped the ball. The dry rot extended to the adjacent bedroom closet and the laundry room and kitchen. The home ended up needing $20,000 worth of repairs to stop and correct the dry rot damage - this is BEFORE we replace tile, flooring, drywall etc in the repaired areas. Overall, we spent about $40,00 to get it livable and it is still not done yet. We lived in the house during the winter, with no indoor bathroom and no exterior wall on one side for 3 months. We have lived here 10 months now and are still getting it put back together. we can't finish all the work now becasue we are out of money. We also hired Key to trench and spray for subterranean termites immediately after we closed on the house (before we found the rot). The inspection indicated "cellulose debris" (wood scaps) under the house, which would attract termites and the quote they gave me included removal of said debris. The worker who came out sprayed, and went under the house, but nothing was removed. I even asked his specifically to be sure to get it all and asked if he would be willing to get the other debris (garbage and such) while he was at it. He said he would be happy to, but left everything, including the wood scraps. THIS IS A RACKET. they don't think you will follow up and look, the wood attractes termites and they are back spraying for you again in five years. I called them back and they did send someone out to fix it. their excuse was that it was the owner's son who did the origional work and he cuts corners sometimes. I waited a few weeks to go under the house, so the poison could disperse. when i checked their work, i found active termited mounds and live termites under there!! they did come back and spray again, this time there are no termites. i personally wouldn't trust them to do a thorough job without supervision, however.

This company did an excellent job on everything. Impressed with owner Mark Maxwell's knowledge and explanations. If you are getting several estimates for fumigation, MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THIS COMPANY in your estimates.
Description of Work: Mark Maxwell, owner, came out to give me an estimate to tent and fumigate a 1950 sq ft house for Drywood Termites. His price was very fair and competitive in this market. He was very thorough in examining and measuring the house, to get the correct amount of fumigant in the house . He explained all questions I had. The day of the fumigation, the crew arrived on time to tent the house. Everything that was to be done happened on schedule. The fumigation crew is part of the company, has been trained by the owner, and has been with the company about 8 years. Very professional crew. The owner does not subcontract out the fumigation. Excellent and very knowledgable owner. Phone staff was very helpful. Elimination of existing Drywood Termite intestation(s) is guaranteed for five years. I also got an estimate to repair for dry rot damage, replace wood, and paint for $297. Repair is already scheduled.
