Bob Smith Painters

Bob was probably a great contractor in his day and he will tell you over and over again that he usually works on "high end" homes. We picked a different painter from A-list but he was busy and gave our number to Bob. I confirmed that he was also on the list so we didn't investigate further. We bought a 1972 house with original kitchen. Couldn't afford to replace the cabinets and they were in pretty good shape anyway so we looked into refinish options. Deciding between stain and paint, Bob suggested the varnished cabinets would look nice refinished in stain. Estimated 7-10 days. The job was over 3 weeks. Bob got in over his head, the sanding of the original finish didn't come out well and we ultimately had to go with paint. Bob did a good job spraying the boxes on site and took the doors and drawers to his shop. Bob didn't anticipate problems with custom built, old cabinets and found that we couldn't replace the hardware easily. In the end, he delivered the doors to us but did not rehang them. The quality of the painting was good and the price was fair. It was all the extra hassle, time and what looked like a lack of experience that led Bob into a job that he could not do. I think a guy that has been doing this work for decades would be able to anticipate problems with old cabinets that the homeowner could not imagine. These were all problems that had nothing to do with applying paint but maybe Bob should have been able to see them. In the end, I have a bunch of doors that I have to hang myself.

Wonderfully well. My remodel (which became a lengthy renovation) took place 4/2010- 3/2011. Bob and Dan painted both baths,dressing hall, hallway,entry, kitchen, laundry - including new doors; and touched up outside where board and batons were removed/replaced. Their estimates, time, protocol (brush v spray) and end results were stunning. They custom matched door stains to entry floors; blended a custom color to complement and highlight the architectural styles of the doors. They were neat, before, during and after their work; even where they stored their materials. They were recommended by my wonderful contractor (Ohana Builders) and, in turn,I have recommended them to others, as they not only paint, but can do the woodwork as well. Even the local Sherman Williams store (who noticed that when I went in to pick up paint, I told people how happy I was with them) asked for their information. Eventually I will have more work and will definitely utilize them again.

They came in before a job to check with myself and the contractor (Ohana Builders) to get the scope of the job, any special requests, and give us a bid and time line. The quality of their wall, ceilings, cabinet/wood work is beautiful - smooth, no streaks. Dan sets up, progresses, and cleans up in a very professional way. The professionalism they show to others in the trades (floors, tile) is quite refreshing. I will give them any work I can as it comes up. They are amicable perfectionists!
