Hari diagnosed the problem and recommended that we call the manufacturer to get them to send us the parts for free even though the unit was not under warranty. His suggestion worked, and as a result we only had to pay him for labor, which was done promptly and efficiently.

The repair was temporary. After it quickly failed again they said we needed another part replaced, I had to leave a message using another phone number before to get a call back. They never returned multiple calls since then. Its been several weeks and we have not yet gotten a response. We will next proceed with reporting them to BBB, the service company that they do contract work for, and who ever else we can issue a complaint to make sure others do not experience the frustration and inconvenience we are enduring.

The old fridge in our "new" (for us) house was leaking, with a big puddle on the refrigerator floor. We were assigned A-One by our home warranty company; they were the "top of the list". The guy diagnosed cracked (copper) tubing and an eroded valve in the ice maker. He charged us the $100.00 deductible that the home warranty company set, except, because that particular repair was not covered by the warranty co., they called it a "service fee" instead (fyi: I spoke with a few people, and everyone said that that is REALLY steep for a service fee. Most places charge around $60-$70.) The guy apparently shut off the water to the fridge to temporarily stop the leak...even though I had already shut it off. The leak continued. When I called them to tell them this, the guy told me to shut off the ice maker, since the ice maker must still be drawing water from the pipes that were shut off. Well, I turned off the ice maker, as directed, and the leak continued. This was clearly a misdiagnosis. The very best part: A-One wanted to charge $265, ON TOP of the $100 service fee, to fix the leak!!! Something wasn't right. Time for a second opinion, and I decided NOT to go around with the home warranty company any more. I couldn't afford another $100 "service fee" if the repair really wasn't going to be covered! As it turns out, the guy from the second company came right out and took about 5 minutes to unclog the drain line on the fridge. Problem solved. He found no cracks in the tubing and no problem with any valves. The unit has been bone-dry ever since, and he only charged the $65 service fee. It was the simplest problem possible with a refrigerator, and with the simplest solution! I don't know whether A-One Services was deliberately trying to scam us, or whether they were really that ignorant, but they will NOT be going to the top of my list. Update: They have agreed to refund $50 of the "service fee", since their real fee is only $50. Apparently they took the $100 because they didn't know if the service would be covered by the warranty company or not, so they were assuming it would be, and they claimed it as the deductible (though they wrote it under "service fee" on the bill.) At least that part has worked out well.
