We moved into a new house on my wife's condition that we do something with the old pink and gray bathroom upstairs. I told her no problem...then she said it would be nice to have an extra bedroom, and if there's enough time and money could she also get a walk-in closet in the master bedroom? Of course, dear. So I planned, made sketches, and had her pick the colors out before she went on a 6-week trip abroad. I moved into the new house and started calling around looking for a good contractor. This was the 4th house I've owned, and knew a little bit about what to expect and what to look out for. After a few contractors came out, I decided to try Angie's List for the first time. Actually Precision Built Construction was the third or fourth contractor contacted, but the first to respond positively. It was immediately obvious that Jason was interested in the job, friendly over the phone, and knowledgeable about the projects I had planned out so I began talking details about what I would like to do. When we were negotiating the price, Jason suggested that I pay for his time and pick up the cost of materials separately as they were purchased instead of contracting for the entire job up front. I was happy to hear this since I prefer to pay time-and-materials in case it doesn't work out, then you're not out much money or time. So I agreed, and we made a scheduled start date. Jason showed up right at 8am on that day, ready to work with a helper in tow. Since it was T&M, I didn't mind paying the extra worker since that meant less construction time in the end. As it turned out, the helper was very experienced and a real surprise to see that I had two experienced contractors when I was just happy to have one. The demo went fast, really just a day or two. The method of work was efficient and cost-effective. Jason would either stop for material on the way to my house, or on the way home. I would pay him once a day for material, and once a week for labor. As I watched how fast and how smooth these guys worked, I quickly realized we were going to be under budget and ahead of schedule! Wow - that's pretty unusual. The bathroom remodel had been the focus of my project, but after laying out my plans to Jason, we were able to squeeze enough out of the budget to get everything my wife wanted and more than we ever expected. There were countless times when Jason would look over my plan with his experienced eye and give me ideas to save money (reusing demo material, rearranging wall layouts to maximize space and save labor or material, tricks and tips I hadn't thought of, etc). It became obvious that he wasn't driven by greed, but genuinely wanted to help me do the best I could with the budget I had. When it came time to do the electrical, he offered to bring in a subcontractor if I preferred - on a T&M basis as well, so I agreed. That way he could concentrate on the real tough and hard-to-do parts of the job while the subs plugged away on the technical issues. The electrical sub worked out so well, I also decided to go with a sub for the tile work in the bathroom. Again, a top-notch professional with years of experience. I wasn't even sure exactly what tiles I needed - I just had a basic idea of what my wife wanted, so here we were - at Home Depot, laying out all different kinds of tiles to get just the right look. It was very nice to have expert professional advice when I was on my own. All I can say is that Jason's company is nothing but the absolute highest quality and you can count on his word, and his workers. I also liked the fact that Jason never minded if I wanted to take over with parts of the project and do them myself. Once again, T&M allows you to do this. If this were an all-inclusive bid, the whole job would have been contracted and calculated to the very last nail and tile. With T&M, you can add, subtract, or change certain things on-the-fly (within reason of course). The whole job from start to finish was barely over two weeks. And that included a complete demo of a bathroom, including major concrete removal, demo walls, add walls, add windows, install new electrical, new toilet, bathtub, double vanity, two over-size medicine cabinets, pony wall, sheet rock, lighting, ceiling fans, new plumbing - the complete remodel plus several additional items I added as we went along. Everything went quickly, smoothly, efficiently, professionally, and under budget and under the allotted time. My wife came back to see her new home was newly remodeled, and her husband not stressed at all! Thank you so much Jason for all your hard work. I hope you have some free time to come back for some minor projects in the future! I would highly recommend Precision Built Construction to everyone, and would challenge anyone to find a more reputable contractor who is this hard working, this knowledgeable, under budget, on time, and on your side.
Description of Work: The original scope of work included a complete demo of a bathroom, demo some walls, add or move walls, install new toilet, bathtub, double vanity, fixtures, pony wall, sheet rock, lighting, and tile. The work went so smoothly I added to the scope of work and included re-configuring the upstairs to include an additional bedroom, closets and filling in doorways, adding a window and some built-in storage space.

I purchased an Angie's List 'handyman for a day' deal. Initially it was challenging connecting with Jason to schedule a day to get the work done, but everything went very well after we were able to schedule. Jason arrived on time and was very professional. He was knowledgable and efficient, and was able to perform the work fairly quickly. I am pleased with the end results.

In early to mid-April I noticed my ceiling in my bathroom and living room were peeling and sagging. I suspected water had leaked from my roof onto my ceiling, visibly damaging the sheetrock. Shortly thereafter I called Jason Lindgren, the owner of Precision Built Construction. He said he would come to my house in mid-April to take a look at the problem. When he was here to size up the problem, he saw what I saw: that part of my bathroom and living room ceiling was either sagging or peeling. Using the crawl from my attic, he was able to inspect what's on the other side of the sheetrock (and inspect the roof from the inside, above the affected sheetrock). From that inspection he hypothesized that those areas of my ceiling probably had suffered some water damage of some kind, perhaps from a leak in my roof. Without actually removing the damaged sheetrock, he couldn't be sure, though, and I understand that opinion based on his preliminary inspection. Based on that inspection, I agreed to have him come to my home on 2012.04.30 to do the work. We set a price of $400 to get it all done. He arrived on time (shortly after 8 a.m.) on 2012.04.30, but he didn't have sheetrock with him. So he got back in his truck and went to Home Depot to get some. When he returned, he got to work right away. He worked the entire day (except for lunch, of course), and completed the job to my satisfaction in late afternoon. I paid him promptly for the work done. Now, here's the rub: At the end of the job, he wasn't able to give me a formal, professional invoice for services rendered to indicate, in detail, the services rendered. Instead, he scribbled a hand-written note on a blank piece of paper stating that I had paid him $400 for the general work done. His note did say that I had paid in full for his services (my check #4331 dated 2012.04.30, I'm adding here), but I wasn't allowed to keep his note because I didn't have a way to make a photocopy. Still, I told him, a hand-written note is not nearly the same thing as a professional invoice. I said he could just mail me the invoice when he gets back to the office. He said he would do that. I will need that invoice for tax purposes later. A couple of weeks went by, but I had not yet received my paid-in-full invoice that he said he was going to send me. I called him this week, once today and one a couple of days ago, to ask about it. I got his voice mail both times. Both times I left messages indicating my need for the invoice. I gave him my phone numbers (home and mobile). He has yet to call me (or send me his invoice) for work completed nearly three weeks ago. The guy knows what he's doing, construction-wise. It's just that he isn't much of a businessman, for he wasn't able to promptly provide me with a standard business invoice indicating the work done (in detail) along with the necessary that I had paid him in full at the time he completed the job. Worse, he hasn't produced an invoice for me since then. All his good work at my house has nearly been obliterated by that one flaw -- no invoice, no return calls. Nada. Though he's a good tradesman, I'm now left wondering if I'm ever going to use him again, should the need arise (though I answered "yes" on your questionnaire above).
Description of Work: Jason Lindgren, owner of Precision Built Construction, replaced sections of sheetrock in my bathroom ceiling and living room ceiling on 2012.04.30 at my home. He also applied some "Mastick" around a vent on my roof. The vent was the entry point for a small leak that, over time, led to the deterioration of the bathroom ceiling and living room ceiling sheetrock.

He hadn't installed one before, so he came a day early to study the specification documents and make sure he brought everything he needed. It only took a few hours and everything was done neatly and correctly. He left the area as clean as he found it, which is also really nice. No complaints at all!

Jason arrived promptly on the morning scheduled, reviewed the work to be done, and understood exactly what we wanted. We had picked out a new window and the hardie board to use. He and his helper sourced the materials and got to work We had purchased the deal of the day and Jason quoted us time and materials beyond that 7 hrs and their services were excellent quality, and price. They needed to some back for another day to finish the job and we are super pleased with the results. We have several other jobs that we want to do later in the year and have every intention of using Jason again. This has been our bst angies list find so far!

This deal was for 7 hours of contractor work on any project you want. We had many options but settled on framing out the wall openings. When you hire for hours of service and not project based, you can get concerned about whether or not the worker will work quickly. Jason worked so fast, he was practically running from cutting wood to installing. He even ate the burger we bought him on the run. We showed him pictures of what we want done and he interpreted them exactly how we wanted them. We had no idea what product would be used - part of the time included going to Home Depot and choosing materials. He chose high quality products and explained everything about the why's and what's. When he began installing, it became clear that our 52 year old house didn't have one square corner. It also became obvious that the job was now going to be larger than expected. Jason immediately told us that the job would take longer and gave us options at the very beginning of the job. We settled on the option that meant he would come back the next day to complete the job. The quality of the work is fantastic. He had to do a lot of shims and really work to make them square. WE FEEL LIKE WE GOT A NEW HOUSE! We asked him to quote other jobs, including crawling under the house and taking pictures. He qouted us on bathroom repair and we are defintely going to use him for that and other jobs. Jason showed up on time with all the necessary tools and got to work immediately. He's going to be around our house for a long time!

We corresponded via email primarily and agreed upon a date and time. I sent him a list of items. He arrived it the time frame he said he would so he was punctual. I had him start on the bathroom work which he completed efficiently. Next I change what I wanted him to do (which not on the list I sent him) and had him install a new entry door + frame. This he completed quickly and to my satisfaction. Next he removed an old kitchen sink and installed a new one. The new sink was slightly bigger than the original sink and would not fit without braking the existing counter tile, so I had to get a different sink. He came back to install the second sink, which he did without a problem. I also had him remove the flooring in a second bathroom and install new underlayment. He removed all the debris and put it outside where I wanted it. I was happy for the work and would use him again in the future.
Description of Work: Prepared two bathrooms floors for a future tile job: He removed the old flooring and underlayment, toilet, etc. Then installed new underlayment. Installed new entry door and frame. Removed old kitchen sink and installed new sink. Did other small handyman items i.e. adjusted interior door frame width on some of my doors.

Jason did a great job and explained the process he was going to take with each item. He assembled a large home bar which had some structural damage sustained during shipping. He did his best to minimize the exposure to the damage and got the bar assembled in good working order. He got multiple repair/installtion items completed in a short period of time and on budget. It was pretty apparent that Jason has capabilites to do much larger renovation type projects and I will be sure to contact him for these.
Description of Work: Jason came over to perform a number of smaller handyman type items. This included the assembly of a home bar, repair of some misaligned closet doors, installation of a towel rack, a blind valance, and tightening up a hand rail.

I was nervous about the project. All the work was done under the house. It was the foundation of my home. I'm very satisfied with the work and appreciate the items that Jason (Precision Built) noticed that needed to be done. i.e., finish the earthquake hold downs and the plumbing. I met Jason (Precision Built) through one of Angie's Deals. Jason isn't your everyday contractor. He's a true professional who knows his field and takes pride in his work. He was business like and also easy going and easy to work with. From the start of the project to the end of the project, Jason and his crew were hard working - came in and got the job done. I liked the way Jason interacted with his helper (who is his brother) and the plumber. Jason has the qualities I expect in a contractor: someone I can trust,; someone that knows his field ( what he can and can not do); quality work - didn't cut corners; dependable and starts the job and finishes the job in a timely manner and a fair price I did not go under the house, instead, Jason took photos of the work - before and after. Pls contact me if you have questions.
Description of Work: Most of the work done was repairs listed on a home inspection report. There were additional areas not mentioned in the report that were noticed and repaired. Scope of work: blocking under addition, posts under support beam, electrical checked and cleaned up, rusted vent pipe repaired/replaced, seismic earthquake hold downs installed and old plumbing upgraded. Decks and Porches were checked in error - not sure how to correct. There was no work done on the deck or porch. The cost of the job also includes materials.

Overall I am very happy and would use Jason again. I have another bathroom that could use some updating and definitely new windows as well. This remodel might be more official by going through a bathroom designer, or I might just buy the stones and tiles and have him re-tile... I haven't decided yet. They were very professional and did put down drop cloths to walk on so my carpets would not get dirty. I can tell that my house is already warmer without losing so much heat through the terribly sealed skylights that were removed and reinstalled by a roofing contractor when we re-roofed a while back. I'm looking forward to a lower PG&E bill next month!
Description of Work: I arranged for Jason to come out and replace two leaky skylights and better seal a third that was already double-paned. He also installed a new fan, which is nice. Instead of having two lights, one of which was in the skylight box above the shower, and a fan that was louder than a Who concert, I now have one fan/light combo that gives enough light for the space and the fan quiet. He had his brother Eric help him as well as it was to rain by the end of the day and he wanted to get the skylights installed. He also improved the looks of the drywall that leads up to the skylight. My bathroom is much more bright and pleasing now. He did not paint as I did not ask him to, and I bought the skylights and curbing once he verified measurements. He provided all other materials. His brother Eric installed two 13 foot long redwood boards that I bought to use as a library shelf in my den and the room looks much better as well.

In fact, I've already asked him to quote on doing some additional work for me.

My driveway width had been extended close to 4' by the previous home owner to accommodate 2 cars with enough room for one vehicle to fully open its door without hitting the other car. The problem is I think the previous owner did the concrete pour himself or hired someone who didn't know what they were doing. The driveway extension had cracks in it and as we used the area more & more it began to breakup & fall apart. I got a quote from a concrete company working on a house down the street. The quote given was $1,500 for the total job. Trying to save some money I decided to break up the extension & haul away the concrete myself. The day I started breaking up the concrete I received Jason's "Big Deal" email from Angie's List & purchased the "Contractor for a Day" deal. I emailed Jason & sent him the job details, measurements & pictures of the area. He said the job could be completed in a day as long as I cleared out all of the broken concrete. I confirmed that was my plan and that it would be gone the following weekend. Jason said he'd contact me next week with a list of supplies needed for the job. Once I hauled away the broken concrete I sent Jason some updated photos, he confirmed that the site looked good & he would take it from there. He emailed me a list of items need for the job and we set the start date for 10/14 @ 8:30am. (Item list: 3 - 2'x4'x10' / 3 bundles of 12" stakes / 100' of 1/2" rebar / 1 roll tie wire / 20 ? 2" rebar spacer blocks / Short Load of Concrete) I tried to locate a concrete vendor on Angie's List, but kept finding contractors/companies who wouldn't provide just the concrete. After 3 failed calls I contact Jason for suggestions, he said he didn't have a preferred vendor in the area & the easiest way to find a company that would deliver ready mixed concrete would be the yellow pages. He was right, the first company I called (CRM, Inc.) would delivery short loads of ready mixed concrete for business or residential job sites. The cost was $232/yard and I needed 1.5 yards for the job. Due to rain earlier in the week Jason had to push the job back a day to 10/15. I scheduled the concrete delivery for 10/15 at 11am. On Saturday Jason showed up right at 8:30am. He introduced himself & his crew, went over the job details and then began working. About 2/3rds through prepping the site he mentioned how they were way ahead of schedule & to see if we could move up the concrete delivery. I called CRM, Inc. and they couldn't confirm how much quicker they could get it out there but they would send the truck once it got back from an earlier delivery. The concrete truck arrived around 10:10am, got set up & began to pour. 10 minutes later, I paid the driver & the truck left. Jason & crew continued their work, matching the line pattern to the existing driveway. He also asked if I had any kids and if they wanted to put their hand prints in the concrete...I have no kids, but a nice gesture. The job was completed around 12:30pm. Jason went over the finishing formalities; mist the area with water in a few hours, don't drive on it for at least 48 hours & I could remove the framing on Monday. Since it was only Jason's labor purchased with the Big Deal, I was a little more involved in the project than I thought I would be. I broke up & removed the old concrete, sent a couple emails to Jason, spent around 45 minutes at Home Depot buying supplies and about 30 minutes on the phone trying to order concrete...resulting in a 50% saving over the original bid by another vendor. Jason was helpful, responsive, friendly & professional. The end result was exactly what I was looking for. I would recommend Precision Built Construction to anyone and I already have another job in mind...now I just have to create a budget for it.
Description of Work: I purchased Jason's "contractor for a day" deal. I needed to have an extended part of my driveway replaced as the concrete had cracked and started to break up. I broke up & hauled away the damaged section of driveway. Jason & his crew framed, graded & leveled out the 4' x 20' area to prep for the concrete. They also made & set up the rebar cage, poured the concrete and did all of the finishing work for the concrete.

Great! Friends and I were so impressed with his work he's got 3 referrals coming his way and we'll be calling him back soon for more projects.
Description of Work: Jason installed a new bathroom fan, replaced an old toilet, replaced our old thermostat, and wall mounted our flatscreen TV. He was quick and professional, and did everything neatly and correctly. He's also very nice and personable, so that's a plus!

My experience was great! Jason arrived on time. We walked the job and he got down to business. Jason had to get in the attic to run wire, cut holes and brace the fan/light kits. He had to isolate the wall sockets from the switches to power the kits, as well. He put the fans together and made sure they worked properly and were balanced. One of the fans were missing some screws and he offered to come back when I receive the missing screws to complete the entire install. Obviously not his fault. He is thorough and did a great job cleaning up the drywall mess from cutting the holes and insulation from the attic that fell off of him after he was done crawling around up there. He covered surfaces with drop cloths and he left no indication of having been there other than two new ceiling fan/light kits installed in the office and master bedroom!! I found this provider through an Angie's List Deal and it was worth every penny. I will definitely use him again for some other work I need done around the house. He is very pleasant and professional. Jason thoroughly answered any questions I had, as well.
Description of Work: Installed two ceiling fans/light kits with ceiling mounts from the attic. Neither area had ceiling lighting previously. Converted two wall sockets that were powered by wall switches to independent sockets. Wall switches now power the ceiling fans/light kits.

Overall very pleased with end result. Plumbing was difficult to install due to tight space. Had a minor leak, and jason came back to fix it. He stuck with it until he had it completely fixed. Even came back on a Sunday. He worked around my schedule. He had his wife pick up some of the parts at the plumbing supply store. Jason is very professional, punctual and diligent. Will definitely use him in the future.
Description of Work: Jason installed a new kitchen sink, including new faucet, water filter and reinstall dishwasher and garbage disposal.
