A garage door started running up and down its tracks and none of the opener buttons would stop it. I was able to stop it only by turning off the circuit breaker. I called the company that had installed the garage doors. They told me that the circuit board on the motor was defective and the entire motor would have to be replaced. They gave me a quote of $650. I called Cruz because he's done a bunch of different jobs for me in the past, and I know he knows motors. He took about 15 minutes to check the door out, made some adjustments to the sensors and motor settings, and the door has worked great ever since. He charged me one-tenth of what I would have had to pay the other guys. Cruz is a very knowledgeable guy. In the past, he has repaired a rusted out pole that supported a basketball backboard, installed a rooftop solar heater and cut the piping into my existing filter plumbing, fabricated a large metal gate to replace an odd sized wooden one that broke down, and done minor plumbing repairs. Every repair has been done carefully and well, and all of them have held up well over time. His prices are reasonable and he is available on short notice. His main skill is metal fabrication and he does beautiful metalwork, but he knows automatic gate opening hardware, and motor repair in general. He gets B's on punctuality and responsiveness only because he's been late for appointments a couple of times, and his English is not the greatest. He makes himself understood and he picks things up quickly because he's smart, but communication can be tricky at times. Both of these complaints are minor compared to the outstanding work he does.
Description of Work: Cruz fixed a garage door that was opening and closing by itself.
