Description of Work: I needed wood flooring installed in a small room (140 Sq ft). They told me that this job is to small and not worth there time. If they took the job they would charge me some outrageous labor fee. To there credit I could not find a contractor that would take my job, very disappointed in the Angie's List contractors. I ended up doing the job myself 3 months later as I did not have time to do it when I was searching for a contractor therefore my reason for wanting to hire someone to do this very simple job. Again disappointed in Angie's List Contractors.

We are sorry to hear you did not find a contractor and it was unfortunate for us to receive the negative rating when we did our best to give you recommendations. Regardless, we are glad to hear you finished your project.

Description of Work: We got a bid from Mike on a bathroom project. We were very impressed with him, his accessibility, and thoroughness. He allowed us to see another project he was working on - the quality of the work was exceptional. Alas, we can't afford him! He wasn't the priciest quote we got, but it was pricey enough. We got the feeling he was worth it, though!

Description of Work: Talked to Mike on the phone 4/1/15 about my project. He seemed knowledgeable, but was busy so he said he'd call me back later that day. Mike never called me back. when I called him on 4/13/15 and reminded him of my project, he tried to turn it around and say it was my fault we hadn't been in touch for not calling him. Nice try, but I remember the conversation quite well. Wouldn't let someone who tries to pull that nonsense in my house, let alone, do any work on it.

I respectfully disagree with your account of our conversation. I clearly recall you needed framing work for windows you purchased. We spoke for at least half an hour and I gave your husband several recommendations such as the need for obtaining permits.and information you needed to get from the window company to get the job done correctly. When we concluded our conversation he said he would contact the window company and I clearly stated he can call me any time if he has any other questions. Nevertheless, I wish you the best on completing your project.

He was very professional and had many good ideas for how to do the job well, efficiently and for a good price. His estimate was around $5900, a good price, a little less than the other guy from MJL Constrcution. But I ended up going with MJL because I'd worked with him before on a bathroom, so, a known quantity won out. But MF looked trustworthy - I will get a bid from him for a future project. Definitely contact him if you are shopping around.
Description of Work: The owner came to my house to give an estimate for a remodel of a utility room (new floor, new door, install recessed lighting, install washer/dryer plumbing, floor and crown moulding, relocate water heater vent.)

MF Construction & Design had completely renovated our condo in Glendale and when they finished we realized how bad the fifty year old windows compared to all of the new walls, floors, and new kitchen and bathroom. We spoke with Mike the owner and he suggested tinted tripled pane replacement windows to keep out sound and to help keep out the heat and cold. The price was good for five windows and the labor involved and once the manufacturer delivered the windows, Mike and his crew were out the next work day and had them installed by early afternoon. A Great neat job, all mess cleaned u and all questions answered honestly. This is the second time we have used MF Construction & Design since moving to Glendale and we highly recommend them.

Mike was one of three contractors we met with to get ideas for the total renovation of a condo we bought in Glendale CA. Of the three contractors, we felt that Mike offered the best plan, price, and working arrangement. He invited us to his home so we could see his work and then we sat down and worked out a plan with colors, material and a time line. First Mike and his team gutted the condo, taking out the bathroom and kitchen entirely, removing the old carpet and removing age light fixtures and exhaust fans. Once the condo was gutted Mike and his team started to work. First the entire condo was repainted. (Please note the walls of the condo when we bought it were decorated in crayon by the child of the previous owner.) Mike's team removed the crayon and then painted. Then they updated the electrical wiring and the outlets to make them modern and safe. After painting they laid a hardwood floor through out the condo and finished the floor off by adding a beautiful four inch molding. In the bathroom, after removing the outdated tub, vanity and toilet, the team built a beautiful tile tub/shower, and added an outstanding tile floor. With Mike we chose a new vanity and it fits perfectly with the tile on the floor and bath. To make the bathroom work Mike and his team had to remove outdated plumbing and install new pipes to insure that the water would flow without leaking. In addition they added new lighting and an exhaust fan. In addition to updating the plumbing in the bathroom, Mike and the team also had to update the plumbing in the kitchen. Everything in the kitchen was taken out - cabinets, sink, an ancient stove/oven attached to the wall, leaving an open space. Mike drew up plans for the new kitchen which we really liked and then had custom made cabinets built to fit our preferences. Once the cabinets were installed we selected the hardware we wanted and when combined with the cabinets they looked great. Mike got our custom built cabinets and our granite counter top all within our budget which was great. MF Construction & Design, with Mike Maman keeping an eye on everything, did more than meet our needs. This company was able to do a complete remodel of a disaster zone. They painted, handled electrical and plumbing issues, totally rebuilt a kitchen and bathroom and stayed within budget. We found that Mike was only a phone call away and always available. He always explained what was happening and calmed our fears. In addition the rest of his team were knowledgeable and always ready to answer questions and explain the work process. MF Construction & Design is a first class company that can do it all. They can handle electric, plumbing, painting, redesign and build the bathroom or kitchen of your dreams. They can do it all and most importantly they put you first. This was a great experience and I recommend MF Construction & Design for any work you need done in your home.

This was a large project made up of many small to medium parts, and Mike's company did a great job on all aspects of the work. Mike and his team are very conscientious and professional. They are focused on doing a quality job but they also get the work done in a timely manner, finishing when he said they would finish even though we expanded the scope of work. Mike was helpful during the first conversations about what we wanted, providing ideas and insight on various parts of the project. He was willing to provide rough estimates for each job we were considering and also provided a formal quote as well as change orders when we asked for something new or different. Mike is very flexible and willing to incorporate scope changes while providing fair prices for changes, which are inevitable with a project like ours. He is upfront with his pricing so we didn't have surprises as we went along. Mike was at the job site every day and is very responsive to text messages and calls. He gets things done fast so make sure you know what you want to do and he'll help you get it done. I would highly recommend Mike and MF Construction & Design for any type of remodeling project.
Description of Work: Extensive interior remodel as well as some exterior work on a house we recently purchased. Mike and his team handled all of the skilled trades needed for the many different types of work we wanted done - electrical, plumbing, framing, drywall, painting, etc. Interior work included the following: convert small bathroom into a large master bedroom closet, move door to master bedroom and open area around old door, convert French doors to a large window, build new walls with electrical to create 2 bedrooms from one large room, install 2 skylights into living room ceiling, paint the entire interior with 9 different colors, build a half bath in an existing family room closet, update electrical in master bedroom, install plumbing and electrical for new bathroom, build and install a custom wrought iron fence in front yard, install four outdoor 110V AC outlets, replace swimming pool light assembly.

Everything went better than we could have ever imagined. Mike came everyday to check how everything was going and his workers were always punctual, friendly, and always cleaned up when they were finished. They were even great with my dog (who I trust with no one). In the past, we have hired many handymen and contractors to do various home improvements. Most of these were lacking in workmanship and quality. The work that we had contracted with MF Construction is among the most professional work that we have ever had done in our house. Now my mother has a bathroom that functions like a spa bathroom in a five star hotel. The space does not feel cramped and inadequate anymore. I am looking forward to remodeling the second bathroom in my house with MF Construction.
Description of Work: My mother had her tiny, cramped, outdated bathroom remodeled by MF Construction & Design. For years, it was an eyesore and very dysfunctional. Her bathroom remodel included a tiled shower surround, a new tile floor in the shower, shower head, water conserving toilet, beautiful tile on the floor, a new vanity, a recessed medicine cabinet, a wall cabinet, all new fixtures, and a fan with a heater. The bathroom was beautifully painted after everything was completed. After we thought everything was completed, Mike (the owner of MF) called to ask how everything was working and sent someone to touch up the tile floor. We would not have noticed this on our own, but Mike wanted to make sure there wasn't anything that was incomplete and totally finished.

Mike Maman of MF Construction & Design has simply outdone himself! During the whole remodeling, he and his crew have been prompt, considerate and professional about the whole project as well as during the day to day activities. I couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. The end result is also exceptional. I have received so many compliments from my family during Thanksgiving. I would highly recommend Mike Maman and MF Construction & Design.

Mike Maman gave me an estimate and stuck to it. Not only were we pleased with the results but everyone who has seen the floors tells us how nice they look. First off let me tell you he ripped out the ceramic tiles in our kitchen in one day and had the new tiles in in another day. The design of the flooring was not easy too since we not only had an island but the area where our sink was is crooked. Somehow his guys were able to make the flooring look straight unlike what it was before. They also had to put a 6' boarder of tile around the island and the outer perimeter of the kitchen. Also the tile was laid out diamond shaped requiring more cuts than the traditional checkerboard layout but his guys did a great job. The hardwood flooring was installed in our living room, 3 hallways, our formal dining room and formal living room and an upstairs playroom. Our floors were very uneven since part of the floor is concrete and the other half is wood. There was at least a 3/4" drop from the concrete to the lowest point over the wood area in our living room. Mike guys were able to even the floor out and everything is level now. Yay! Installation of the hardwood flooring went smoothly and so far we've had no problems except guests spilling things on it. No need to worry as Mike used hi quality hardwood flooring and the urethane coating repels the water nicely. We even have a dog and he assured me that the dog would do no harm to the floors. He was dead on. They are very durable. Carpeting was next and although Mike contracts the carpeting out, his coordination was right on. One day installation on the day he said it would be done for 4 bedrooms. The carpet was of course the one we picked out 3 weeks earlier and the installation was flawless. I might add that we had furniture in all the rooms too so no easy task. The baseboard was last and the 6' height that Mike proposed was dead on. A great look than the old 3' one we had. It makes the room much more elegant. One final thing I had Mike do but only because he pointed this out to me on the first job he did for me. I had another unsecured fixture on a bathtub that had no underneath access to it. Mike's guy removed some 6' travertine tiles and was able to not only secure it but made those tiles the access portal in case something else goes wrong there. When the job was finished I noticed that the grout they used was not the right color and one tile was broken. I had extra tiles and the right color grout but I forgot to mention that to Mike. I told Mike I had the extra tiles and grout and promptly his guy came back and re-grouted and removed and replaced the broken tile. You would never know now that they even did any work there. All in all, Mike was always accessible through either by text or cell phone. His guys made a huge mess in my garage but after he was done it was all cleaned up. Flooring looks great.
Description of Work: This was my second time using Mike. I first had a leak in a bathroom but the water was not only coming into the bathroom from the inside but also from the outside. On this job Mike explained to me that the pipe supplying water to the shower head was not secured and was moving thus causing the solder joint to fail. This was done by the original contractor who built the house but also missed by the second contractor that re-did that bathroom. Mike pointed this out to me that this was a no-no. They them busted the wall up which was at a corner and I was thinking to myself that this will never look the same. Well to my surprise the wall and the rounded corner looked brand new. You would never know that he busted that area up. Also, the builder installed the flashing on the outside of my home towards the house which caused any rain water to leak into that area. Mike's guy installed new flashing sealed everything up in one day and so far no leaks. So this is why we went with Mike for our next job. Work performed for our second job which covered approximately 4,000 sq. ft: Installation of engineered hardwood floors, 3 floors Installed and painted 6" Baseboards throughout home Installation and design of kitchen floor using finest quality of travertine and tile trim Installation of plush carpeting Secured loose bath fixture requiring removal and replacement of travertine tiles. Touched up paint throughout the house

My wife and I fired this contractor, Mike Maman, aka Moshe Maman, on August 8, 2012, when we no longer trusted his work or his guarantee of "quality and satisfaction". At the start, we told Mike that safety was our #1 concern, regardless of cost. We never tried to bargain. We paid in full and on time. The day after we moved in, improper installation of the washer, dryer, and an incorrect outlet caused an immediate emergency. Certified people were then called in to look over the entire job. We had more than one specialist look at each problem, and they independently came to the same conclusions. Mike is a great salesman, and got the job primarily because he said he never ran more than 3 jobs at a time. By running only 3 at a time, he could guarantee high quality. About 2/3 into our job, we started having quality control issues. Shortly after that, Mike mentioned that he was running 6 jobs altogether. In the sales pitch, Mike also stressed that he didn't use subcontractors, but only his own crew. Our mistake was that we didn't ask if his people were certified in their trades. What follows is a partial list of our problems with this contractor. During demolition, one of Mike's crew defecated on the ground behind our garage, at the foot of a ladder being used by a rain gutter installer from another company, who then stepped in it. Feces-covered paper towels were found on the ground by the side of the garage, even though there was a trash can 10 feet away. Mike first denied that one of his crew had done this, but that left only him, my wife, and the guy who stepped in it as possible suspects. This was the first of many denials. Denials were later to become routine. His crew installed a washer, dryer, dishwasher, gas stove, and stove hood, all improperly. Warranties were voided on the stove hood and dishwasher because original parts were not used. As mentioned above, our first use of the washer & dryer caused an emergency requiring a plumber and an electrician. The plumber found loose flex lines on the washer and a badly kinked gas line on the dryer. The electrician found a 15-amp outlet had been installed where a 20-amp outlet was required. Mike denied that he was responsible for any of this. Gas stove - Improper installation gave us a gas leak. The certified plumber we called discovered the leak by dripping soapy water down the gas line. Bubbles appeared at the connection, proving the presence of the leak. He explained that the teflon tape Mike's installer had used holds only for a short while before breaking down, and that gas tape/dope is required. When we told Mike, he just denied that there had been a gas leak. All other gas lines his crew installed were sealed with the improper teflon tape. We had the gas company inspect all the lines. The rep said, "The gas company doesn't recommend doing it this way. We recommend gas dope." Stove hood - About 6 feet above the gas leak at the stove is the new stove hood. The "Electrical Requirements" section of the directions states, "DO NOT use an extension cord with this appliance". The directions further state, "Failure to follow electrical requirements may result in a fire." We found the directions unopened in the trash. Mike's installer had spliced the stove hood's wire to the cut off end of an extension cord plugged into an outlet - also installed by him - that was so loose it was pulling away from the wall . The raw wires were resting against a metal hood bracket. The directions also state that the venting should be 7 inches in diameter all the way from the hood to the end of the venting above the roof. Mike's installer had immediately reduced the venting to 4 inches from the kitchen to the end of the pipe on the roof. All of this was concealed by the upper duct of the stove hood. The warranty was voided because of failure to follow instructions or use original parts. Dishwasher - Mike chose not to use the original parts, which voided the warranty. After I found the directions and original parts unopened in a drawer, Mike told me his parts "are better". Our certified plumber found the electrical cord pinched under the unit and partially severed by its weight. Mike had chosen to install the outlet directly behind the unit, making it inaccessible. This required complete removal of the unit to unplug it. Cast iron clawfoot tub - Mike advertises himself as a bathroom specialist, so we were sure that this would go well. Even so, we provided the detailed manufacturer directions. After installation was begun and the tub had been attached to the supply lines, I asked Mike why the claw feet had not been unwrapped. He said that he wasn't going to do that until installation was complete so they would be "protected". Installation was halted, however, due to a missing part. One day I unwrapped the claw feet and found that each one has a levelling screw on the bottom. It turns out that the first thing that must be done when installing a clawfoot tub is to level it so that it is exactly perpendicular to the supply lines. Mike hadn't bothered to make himself aware of this. The directions provided were not used. The tub was not level. As a separate issue, I asked Mike why he wasn't following the directions regarding the ceiling brackets. He yelled at me, saying that if the whole thing fell out of the ceiling, then don't blame him. So, our "bathroom specialist" was not competent to install a bathtub and had a screaming tantrum when questioned. Also, the floor under the tub should have been reinforced because a cast iron clawfoot tub weighs a tremendous amount when full. Mike hadn't done this. The wall and ceiling brackets needed to attach to wooden braces, not just to drywall. Mike hadn't done this either. Retaining wall with seepholes - Had been put in by another company and was brand new. The seepholes were plainly visible. It was not to be touched, but Mike's crew sandblasted and concreted over it, including the seepholes. The plainly visible seepholes, which were for much needed drainage, were deliberately concreted over and sealed shut. Sandblasting also damaged two patio support beams, which will have to be replaced. Bathroom fan/heater/light - The unit Mike put in was a $77, bottom-of-the-line, AirZone 765 HF. The company told me that this model was discontinued in March; our job started in April. The fan was so loud (3.2 sones) it could have been mistaken for a leafblower. Directions state, "Be sure . . . that the duct work be installed in the shortest length and as straight as possible". Instead, the vent was installed six feet away with two sharp angles. Directions also state: "WARNING: THIS UNIT MUST BE WIRED ON A SEPARATE 20 AMP CIRCUIT." Mike had wired it on the same circuit with our bathroom ceiling lights. We found the directions in the trash. Laundry room - We now have separation of all 4 walls, the ceiling is splitting, and nails are popping out of the drywall. It continues to get worse. Doors - Mike supplied 6 doors, 5 of which were installed without all their hinge screws. Two were installed damaged. Kitchen sink - stainless steel, brand new, used by his crew to wash up after grouting and other work - badly scratched before we ever moved in. Wrong outlet - a 120-volt interior outlet was installed outside in a wet location. A GFCI outlet was required. Wiring - Mike left original 1926 wiring to an exterior patio outlet, in violation of contract. Exterior conduit - was reinstalled after concreting, in violation of contract. Our contract called for major payments at certain points in the job, each upon completion of a certain task. Every time Mike notified us that a payment was due, we paid him promptly and in full. After moving in, however, we found that, while the tasks requiring payment had been completed, much of the work between the payment points had not been finished. Mike got virtually all his money, while failing to complete much of the contracted-for work. When we emailed Mike a list of the problems that had been found up to that point, he denied a portion of them and indicated that he was unaware of the rest, as though that were an excuse. He was the contractor. It is the contractor's job to be aware. Mike accepted being fired without argument. You'd think he would have been alarmed, or concerned about the quality of the work done in his name. But, then again, he had just about been paid in full. He voluntarily returned $900, saying he felt he hadn't earned it. So far we've spent more than $10,000 fixing his foul-ups, and the unfinished work remains to be done. Also, we don't know what else we will find in the future. Mike's last email to me had the footer, "Quality and satisfaction are always guaranteed." By the end of our job, quality did not exist and satisfaction was not possible.
Description of Work: The contractor removed the interior down to the studs, then did reframing to provide support at various points. The old floor was removed. A complete removal of old wiring and plumbing was contracted for, followed by rewiring and repiping of both the water and gas lines. All exterior electrical conduits were to be removed. Travertine flooring was installed throughout the house. A new kitchen door, side garage door, and laundry room door were installed, along with three interior doors. All the old and improperly installed windows were removed, and new windows were installed. Included in the bid was a complete bathroom remodel with installation of a clawfoot tub/shower assembly. The laundry room was rebuilt to raise the roof/ceiling to the proper height. All new appliances - washer, dryer, dishwasher, stove, and stove hood - were installed, along with a new kitchen sink. All kitchen cabinets were taken down, refinished, and reinstalled. The old kitchen countertop was replaced with new granite. A new kitchen backsplash was installed. New electrical outlets were installed throughout. The interior was to be painted. New baseboards were installed throughout. New AC/Heating ducting was run throughout the house and new registers for same were installed throughout. The entire house and garage were sandblasted, and the revealed cracks were repaired. The house and garage were then coated with waterproof sealer, concreted (instead of stuccoed), and repainted. New crawlspace covers were made and installed.

Response from MF Construction & Design Inc
I respectfully disagree with this review. First of all, regarding the safety issue, safety for our customers and employees is the company’s primary concern and we never had any safety issues or concerns in our 28 years in business. Everything was properly installed and this can be proved beyond a doubt for many reasons. The overall evidence is that ALL inspections from the city were passed, without any corrections. There were at least four inspections from the city by two different inspectors, and the inspectors will not pass anything that is not safe or up to code. For example, the Member claims that we put in a 15 amp outlet (GFI) instead of a 20 amp outlet which was required. This is not possible because the city inspector would not have passed the inspection if this was true. In addition, I have the receipt to prove that I only purchased 20amp GFI’s. Also, we requested to see this 15amp outlet, but we never got a response. Regarding the washer and dryer, after installation, this was tested several times and once with the member present. She was there when we tested it and everything was working fine. We believe it was the cleaning crew that jammed the washer against the wall. The job was not completed because of many series of events. First of all, regarding the tub, I am surprised about all of the Member claims because he knows that the tub suppliers incorrectly delivered his order, not once, but twice. The suppliers they purchased the tub from did not deliver it on time and when it was delivered, there were missing parts and the order was wrong. The second time it was delivered, it was the wrong color and there were still missing parts. I clearly remember the day when the Memeber and I were in the bathroom making a decision to stop the installation of the tub until all the correct parts would arrive. The suppliers apologized and because of their mistake, they offered to install the tub for free because of the delays. Therefore, it is not possible for the Member to state that we did not know how to install the tub when we did not ever have the chance to install it (which is why the tub was not leveled). Therefore, the installation of the tub never was completed. Regarding the reinforcement of the floor, the floor was reinforced by new ¾ inch plywood, which is more than sufficient reinforcement for this tub. In addition, we had approximately 2 inch concrete with wire mesh. On top of this, we installed the tile which was leveled. I also am surprised that the Member stated that I yelled at him. I have never raised my voice at any client and cannot even think of a time when I was upset with him. If anything, we had a very good relationship, and I have many emails to verify his satisfaction. The bathroom fan: the Member was given three options of fans, we had models to show him and he chose the lowest priced one, which was loud and he said he was fine with it. We showed him quieter and more expensive ones too. The installation of the fan was installed correctly and the city inspector checked it and verified that everything was perfect before the ceiling was drywalled. Regarding the demolition crew, we never denied this incident, and we immediately took care of this. Although the defecation was inexcusable, I just wanted to note the portable toilets arrived one day late (and we are no longer using this crew). We apologized and we made up for this by providing extra work gratis –complimentary wiring for a flat screen TV above the fireplace, including the wires, and electricity. In addition, we provided corbel awnings above the front windows (value of $1100). There are many more issues I can dispute, however, it is not productive unless both parties are present. In conclusion, it is unfortunate that the Member and his wife never gave us a chance to respond to all of these claims. Up until two weeks after he moved in to the house, we communicated almost every day by phone or email. We were still working on the exterior of the house while they were living in the house. The Member can verify that I was always available and I met him on weekends, or whenever he had questions I immediately responded to his phone calls and emails. I can also verify that after he moved into the house, he allowed me to bring a client in to see the work I had done, and he was satisfied with everything so far. He states several times we did not finish the work, and yes, it was obvious the work was not completed because we had many of our tools in his garage waiting to hear from him when we can finish. He obviously did not communicate with us many of these concerns until after. I never finish a job until the client is completely satisfied, however, I was never given the opportunity at the end of the job. He requested that we stop working/finishing the job because he said he was out of town, and a month later he contacted me and sent me an email politely requesting that he did not want to finish the work that was not completed by our company because of the safety reasons as stated earlier. I tried to address his concerns (for example, I asked for the proof of the GFI, and I requested several walk-throughs with him, which he did not reply). I requested a chance to review the concerns with him, but I understood he just wanted to end the contract, which I only agreed to out of courtesy. I repeatedly let him know that I was always available to address any concerns. There is obviously a misunderstanding and difference of opinion and I wish that we could have come to a better solution.

Working with this contractor was a delight. Rather than taking my suggestions literally, he offered options that greatly improved the functionality of the finished project. I've never encountered a Contractor that was more focused on customer satisfaction, constantly soliciting my feedback and wanting to exceed my expectations. I could not have been happier with our working relationship. This was my second use of Angie's List to find a local contractor, and I mean local. This contractor lives two miles away! Last year I found a local company from Pasadena on Angle's List to landscape my front and back yards. That contractor continues to be responsive to any questions or concerns I've encountered with their work. Using Angie's List is like being able to choose from the very best, "pre-qualified" local craftsmen, and that certainly takes the worry and stress out of the selection process.
Description of Work: This remodeling project involved the demolishing of an existing guest bathroom, changing the dimensions of the shower, changing a floor-to-ceiling wall partition into a low "pony wall," with the upper portion becoming part of the shower enclosure. New tile went on the wall and floor. The sink, hardware, countertop, back-splash, and toilet were also replaced. The floor tile was extended out the bathroom door to a sliding door that accesses an outdoor hot tub, thus enabling dripping-wet transitioning from tub to shower.

I refer to my contractor as Mike "(whatever you want") Maman. I was in a panic with a flooded house and no time to prepare for a major renovation. everything I owned was removed in a matter of hours. He is my white knight that kept me calm. He has expertise (brilliant) in all phases of construction. Just as valuable were his design suggestions. For Ex.: I wanted a wall re-configured to give a more open concept. After contracts were signed, he suggested that the 10 foot area that opened from living room to dining area be an arch, and again from kitchen to laundry room be an arch. This is more labor intensive and expensive than a simple opening..Yet there was no adjustment to the contract. He wanted me to have the best and did not charge me more. Same with the crawlspace reinforcement., this was some thing that he wanted to do for optimum results. He reminds me of those signs that say "good"-"better"- "best"...It may be easier to do "good", but he will only be the "best".. His right hand man is Luis. The same attributes are in this man. Together they are a super team. I don't believe I am the easiest person to work for, yet all my changes/ requests were given the "whatever you want" response: Luis was always a few minutes early, yet always gave me the respect of not knocking on my door till I came out and invited him in, or he would wait till our appointed time. The same courtesy was given when I had just tired of a long day, and asked them to leave . It always is "whatever you want"...I like that in a man. There are many more examples of how attentive Mike and Luis are, from lighting to flooring to design, to pet friendly and aware of their safety. Beyond all of the technical expertise are men who have high ethical standards. This is my only contractor from here on in. My only advice is that due to his extensive knowledge, I found that it is easier to understand his point of view when I was in his presence. So when a change or request is desired, unless you are knowledgable in construction, it is better to have him there to point out precisely the challenges. ..Sometimes his explanations were over my head in a phone or e-mail conversation. I feel fortunate to have finally found a contractor I could trust .
Description of Work: Gutted a kitchen, a bathroom, removed, rebuilt and redesigned walls in living room and laundry room. (which required a total repositioning of plumbing. Reinforced a foundation post in crawlspace under house, added support beams in attic. Enlarged and replaced the window in the bathroom. Even created/suggested a way to hang my t.v. on the wall by running the wires through a pipe within the wall...No wires!..Improved wiring..and lighting features. Installed hardwood flooring with baseboards. and all caulking.

Description of Work: Emailed this company almost two weeks ago to see about an estimate for replacing a window in my bathroom that is rotting due to it being level with the shower. Never even got a courtesy call or email back. The only thing I can think of is that this is a relatively small job compared to some of the things shown on their website. Perhaps business is so good that they don%27t need mine. Disappointing.

Response from MF Construction & Design Inc
Our company policy is to respond to every phone call and email immediately, usually within one hour. I do not know why we never received this email. I can guarantee if you call us at 818 618 6531 (the contractor's cell phone) or 626 975 3257, you will get a response right away. In addition, we have many jobs (big and small) in Monrovia so we would NEVER hesitate to respond. If it is not too late, we would be happy to come out and give you an estimate.

Mike and his crew performed a magnificent job on our foreclosed house. When we purchased the property the house was unlivable. He was always very professional and responsive to any of our requests and suggestions. He showed us various samples of his past projects, including his own house. His workers were also very polite and professional. They were fast and efficient and very knowledgeable. They were also great at cleaning up and taking care that things were not damaged during the renovation.
Description of Work: MF construction demo and gutted the majority of the house and installed dry walls, new floorings, replaced the windows, electrical, plumbing, heating/cooling ducts, lighting, and much more. In all we had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, dining room and kitchen renovated. In addition, we also had a family room, master bedroom and bathroom added. Mike added a lot of nice finishes and touches throughout the house that we did not think about, such as arches in the doorways and spot lights above doorways. The quality of the fixtures and supplies he used was top grade and he does not skimp or cut corners on any of the work he does. He redesigned the bathrooms so they had better flow and maximized efficiency. He also expanded some windows and closed our an existing side door. He was very knowledgeable in all kinds of construction, since our house had inner walls made of cinder blocks. Three-way lighting were added throughout the house which we found to be extremely useful. They expanded the kitchen and rearranged the configuration to improve the flow of the room. We also had a master bed/bath added to our house. All work was performed wonderfully and all under the time promised by Mike. All of our friends and family have commented on the great work he's done and the time it took to finish everything.

This is our second experience using Mike for our remodeling work. He first came to us 8 years ago as a subcontractor to our house remodeling, for which we had contracted another company. Fortunately for us, the only good thing they did was hire Mike to do most of the work. Without him the remodeling would not have been finished on time or close to budget. Where the other contractor tried to bleed us for more money, Mike made sure that the work went on and was done properly and within budgetary constraints. When we decided to add another room to our property, the first person we thought of was Mike. He came and gave us an estimate, which was good. Just to make our "Do digilence" we asked other contractors for their input. The proposals and bids were varied and the end result was that we went back to Mike to do the actual work. We are not sorry. His effort and his crew's work made the project easy to take. What started out as a simple shed for storage has turned into a room that we are very proud of. I don't think there is another contractor that is as honest and professional as Mike, anywhere in LA. I know that if we ever need more work, or if someone asks for referral, we don't hesitate to recomend him. We're glad to know him as a person as well, you can tell he cares about what he does.

Our contractor Mike was very accomodating of minor changes we made in the project and for scheduling the job to meet our existing commitments. The job was started on time and completed in an expeditious manner. When minor glitches occurred, as is not unusual in the remodel of older houses, Mike was very agreeable to making changes to improve the end result.
Description of Work: This was the remodel of two bathroooms. The guest bathroom was a complete remodel which consisted of gutting the existing 75 year old bathroom down to the studs, installation of new electrical and plumbing including moving the location of the toilet, installation of a brand new tiled shower with shower niche in a tiled "waterfall effect", installation of a frameless glass shower door and shower surround, building of a custom vanity with granite counter top, closing off a door from the kitchen and drywalling the opening, installation of tiled floor, installation of a new medicine cabinet and all bathroom fixtures, installlation of new lighting fixtures, and painting the entire room, as well as the adjacent room where the door was removed. The second bathroom was a update of the existing area which involved replacing the existing fiberglass shower with a new tiled shower with shower niche in a tiled "waterfall effect", installation of a frameless glass shower door, replacement of the linolelum flooring with tiled floor including matching tile baseboards, refinishing the existing vanity and cabinets, replacing the medicine cabinet with a mirror, installation of new lighting fixtures and all bathroom fixtures, and painting the entire room. Both jobs passed inspection from the City of Alhambra, and we were very pleased with the results.

The entire process was almost effortless except for the parts that Mike didn't handle. We started work immediately after the quote. Mike's team was consistantly on time and followed all of my condo building's rules (there are a lot of them!) to the letter. The building even went as far as to compliment me on my choice of contractor. Mike responded immediately to all of my calls, texts, and emails. Any concerns that came up were addressed quickly and professionaly. And, on top of all this, John Bloeser Carpet One (where I purhcased all of the flooring) was late or came up short on both the carpet and tile. The only saving grace was Mike's flexability and patience. I couldn't possibly be more pleased or recommend MF Construction more highly.

Wehave never hired a contractor due to all the horror stories. We decided to join Angie?s List to see if we could find a reputable and ethical one. Our home was built in 1954 and there?s one bathroom that's never been remodeled. We called Mike and he actually answered the call instead of letting it go to voice mail. We made an appointment and he showed up on the scheduled date on time. Instantly we felt comfortable with Mike, he had great ideas and listened to our needs. Mike looked over the job & suggested a design, which we liked and decided to go with. Our old bathroom had ceramic Tile that ran halfway up the walls, and a shower stall the size of a broom closet (bathroom has a separate tub and shower). Mike demo?d the entire shower area & half way up all walls. We knew our toilet had a leak, and we wanted to have the floor torn up to check for damage. As it turned out the toilet leak had caused some wood rot and the sub-floor had to be torn up around that area and beams had to be replaced. This added $375.00 to the project. Now Mike did say that he would cover material & we would pay labor, but insured us that it wouldn't be in the thousands of dollars. The medicine cabinet we chose was 30? wide which ran right into a vent pipe for the bathroom that had to be moved & cost an additional $250.00. Obviously, Mike couldn't see through walls so this was an unexpected expense and it was up to us to decide whether to go with a smaller medicine cabinet or pay the additional $250.00 to have the vent pipe move. We opted to have the vent pipe moved. The window was a retro fit from the 80?s that was just awful and loud. It was replaced with a new vinyl window that looks great. We decided to go with the vinyl tub instead of the cast iron. I was set on the cast iron because I have seen how poorly the vinyl tubs are installed & Mike invited me to his home to see how his looked in his bathroom, it looked great. We went with the vinyl tub for our bathroom and are very happy with it, it looks wonderful. We decided to have Mike custom build and stain the vanity cabinet, which looks amazing, much better than that stuff you buy at the home improvement stores. The granite top also looks great. All the brushed nickel faucets look great and are also name brand. We let Mike make all the design decisions and are very happy we did, our new bathroom looks amazing and we are very happy with the end result. The way he positioned the tile on the floor and shower wall/floor look fantastic. Mike coordinates his jobs/crew very well so there was someone at the house every day. All the guys on his crew are very tidy and cleaned up every day. I have put pictures on Facebook that you can take a look at if you like. Just ask Mike how to see them. I must say we got exactly what we wanted and Mike delivered exactly what he promised. Listen; when a contractor lets you come to his home and walk through every room to see the details that he has promised, it certainly raised my comfort level. The bathroom looks fantastic! I would definitely recommend Mike, and have encouraged him to give client?s my number if they should like further information about Mike?s work from this very satisfied customer.

We needed our bathroom redone. Mike promptly returned our call, showed up at our house ON TIME to give us an estimate, and was extremely forthcoming in describing our different aesthetic & pricing options, which were very fair. Once the work began, Mike and his crew were punctual, efficient, communicative, and responsive to our needs. They were diligent about keeping our house clean, showing us the work every day, and explaining what was being done when necessary. All the workers were polite and efficient. We are extraordinarily happy with the results, and offer our highest recommendation to MF Construction.

After we got an estimate and met with Mike, we called his list of recent references. His customers seemed very happy and he came highly recommended. Mike showed us a recent kitchen and addition he completed so we initially hired him to remodel our bathroom. We were very impressed with how quickly he worked so we also had him remodel our kitchen. He was always on time and always available if I had any questions. I appreciated the fact that he was on site every day and available when I needed to meet with him. His workers were very courteous and always cleaned up after they were done. Mike is very knowledgeable and really knows what he is doing. He also was very helpful and great with designing and colors.
Description of Work: We completely remodeled our bathroom and kitchen. They demolished our old kitchen, replaced our plumbing, electrical and installed recessed lights. They replaced our old cabinets with beautiful maple cabinets. They also replaced our shower, floors with travertine tile, and painted the walls, ceilings and doors.
