They didn't show up to two appointments, refused to say what was wrong with the machine, and lied to the home warranty company. I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to this company.

I have never written a review for a company but felt inclined to do so for this one. There are 2 versions, a short and a detailed with the end result at the bottom. Short version: Technician quoted $4-5K to reconfigure my 2 story ducting system so that when the thermostat for downstairs was on, only the downstairs blew air. When the thermostat for upstairs was on, only the upstairs blew air. He said half of the downstairs vents were configured to be on with the upstairs vents. Detailed Version: A technician was dispatched from my home warranty company to see why our zoning system wasn't working properly. We recently moved into our home so we didn't know how our 2 zone system was supposed to work when working properly. We have a two story home and one would assume that the zones correlate with the floor you want to heat/cool. Our issue was that when the thermostat for downstairs heat was on, all of the vents throughout the upstairs and downstairs were blowing hot air. When the thermostat for upstairs was on, the whole upstairs and the downstairs entry way and living room vents were blowing hot air, about half the downstairs. After the inspection, the technician told me that the system was not set up properly. He said one of the dampers for the downstairs vents wasn't working but that the living room/entry way vents were set up on the same zone as the upstairs and that basically the whole ducting system needed to be reconfigured. He said that he would write up 2 quotes, 1 for just replacing the broken damper one for reconfiguring the ducting and send it to the home warranty company. When the home warranty received the information they called and said the only quote they received was for $4-5K to reconfigure the whole zoning system and that they didn't receive a quote for just replacing the damper. Because the home warranty company wouldn't pay for about 90% to reconfigure the whole system, I called California Heating and Cooling to discuss just replacing the broken damper. The person who answered said he would speak with the technician that was dispatched and that he would get back to me but he never did. End result: I diagnosed myself and determined one damper in the crawl space and one damper in the upstairs attic were not closing. Once I manually opened and closed both dampers, the system worked as designed and I determined that both were just stuck in the open position and that the technician was 100% trying to scam me into paying for something that wasn't necessary. They may do really good work but I will never know. If this company comes to your home, make sure you either, if you can, diagnose yourself or have another company also come out who may actually be honest with you. Honesty pays for itself.

I highly recommend this California Heating & Cooling! My 30-year old 2.5-ton York A/C finally broke down in July so I decided it was time to replace both the A/C condenser and furnace. I wanted to upgrade to a 3-ton, minimum 16 SEER system. I contacted several companies and got quotes for various configurations of single stage, 2-stage and multi-stage systems. Sean Henson was my contact with California Heating & Cooling. Although I learned a lot about how the systems went together and the energy savings with each configuration from other company reps, Sean's knowledge, along with his diagrams and explanations, really helped me clarify what I wanted. There was absolutely no pressure to upsell me. As with the other companies I received estimates from, Sean provided me with two different configurations I was interested in. I ended up deciding on a 3-ton Carrier Infinity system that is 19 SEER, multi-stage A/C and furnace with a heavy duty 4" filter (I have pets), and a digital wi-fi thermostat. California Heating & Cooling accreditations (A+ BBB, Diamond Certified, screened and approved by Home Advisor), the extended labor warranty, and the very reasonable cost of the top-of-the-line system actually made my decision to go with them fairly easy. Every one I dealt with was professional and friendly. The cost of my system was not only very competitive with other Carrier quotes for the same configuration, it was about $2,000 less than quotes for a Lennox 14 SEER single stage condenser/2-stage furnace and only about $500 more than a 17 SEER quote for a Carrier 2-stage system from another company. Once I made my decision, installation was about 2 weeks out which was a similar timeline to the other companies I talked with. The installation crew, led by Mark and Alex showed up on time and got right to work. I have a zero lot line home, which means access to the back yard is through the garage only (or over the fence). The garage door to the back yard was too narrow for the condenser unit to pass through, so after moving my 12x12 hardtop gazebo away from the sliding patio door, they were able to take the condenser through the house to the back. My home is a two story, but I only have one return on the first floor in a corner under the stairs. Because the new system was more powerful, the return needed to be larger. The old return duct, which, as it turned out, was damaged and useless anyway, was removed. The small return vent opening was enlarged to twice its size, and a vent "room" was built and insulated under the stairs connecting to the furnace duct. The system installation was completed in about 8 hours. Sean came out and touched bases with both me and the install team as the crew was setting up and getting ready to work. Mark and Alex were great team leads and problem solvers. All of the installers were friendly and professional. The work done and the new equipment look good, the old stuff was carted away, and all the work areas cleaned up before they left. Finally, as promised by Sean, there was no additional cost to me for any of the additional work required to get my system up and running. Finally, the duct testing inspection from a third party vendor, as well as the final inspection from the city inspector, were signed off with no issues. I definitely recommend California Heating & Cooling if you're looking at a new HVAC system.

The sales process was quite good and efficient. The sales person walked us through our options and provided us with a written estimate. Upon purchase we were able to schedule an install appointment for the following week. Crew showed up on time and performed all necessary work over 2 full days. They left everything neat and tidy each day and the system was installed exactly how they said. Highly recommend this company.

They were excellent. They were prompt and did a great job. They were very thorough. The price was mid range. They were not the cheapest and it wasn't the most expensive, but we thought it was reasonable.

We went through Sears and they subcontracted the work out to this company. They were professional and on time. They even had someone that spoke English. They were a little early as a matter of fact. They put tarps out to cover things. The only thing I didn t like was that no one showed me how to use the thermostats before they left, which was very annoying.
Description of Work: They installed a whole new furnace and air conditioner in our 1600 square foot home.
