The father of the current owner did the roof around 1990. His service was extrordinary. The kind of man you could do a hand shake deal with, though we had a written contract. He would come by and replace a broken tile without being called- just was in the area and saw it. His son and wife seem to have a similar work ethic an approach. I gave a B in responsiveness, as getting a return call initially, as I recall, involved a follow-up call. I wanted him to do the work so I was willing to pursue a small amount. I had some spare tiles, and they added a reasonable matching tile as needed (my tile is no longer made.) Over the years, phone responsive has not been a long suit (This is being better addressed over this past year) but working with a small, family owned business, who depends on referrals and does not need to resort to mega-bucks spend on glossy advertising more than makes up for some phone lag. Clean up was fine- always a concern in a roofing job!

Troy and his fantastic crew just finished my home this week; we could not be more pleased with their work and overall professionalism. Let me start by saying picking a roofing contractor is so hard, we did not know anyone who had recently had their roof done so I was put to the task of searching the internet for good reviews and getting an overall education about roofing. After having 8 different local companies get on my roof and do an estimate I felt very confident that picking TK roofing was the best possible choice. Here are just some of the many reasons why they are the people you want replacing your roof: · I had a million questions, Kathy who runs the office is so wonderful and helpful and made me feel at ease answering any questions I had in a very timely manor. She gave me the address of places they had completed so I could see for myself the high quality of workmanship. · Troy, the owner is knowledgeable, never pushy and knows roofing. He had an answer for every technical question that I had. · Crew! I can’t say enough about this group of guys that worked on our roof. For one it is the same great crew from start to end. We had a shake roof that we replaced with a composition roof. Day 1- They did the tear off in just a few hours on the first day. There are 7 guys working on the roof all at one time. They have worked together for over 10 years and that shows. They are like a fine tuned machine and they are amazing. Then they put on the sheathing this was all done on day one, our roof is 37 squares and that is about 3700 square foot a very large area for them to finish all that on the first day. Nothing was left exposed over night, several other contractors were going to just do the tear off first day and that is because they only had 2 or 3 guys who were going to work on the roof at a time. With that said, many of the companies that we talked to actually had a different group who did tear off and than another who did the sheathing, underlayment and shingles. That is just more time waiting around for the next group to come and pick up where the others left off. That is not the case with TK roofing they have one group who works a job from start to end. Day 2- They put on all the underlayment, and Troy uses only the best synthetic underlayment, no felt that would bunch up or wear out over time the synthetic is simply rip-proof, very durable stuff. Several companies wanted to charge much more for the synthetic but that was standard in TK’s bid. After that they waited for the inspector and then got to work on the shingles. At this time they also had the gutter-making machine right at my house and they made seamless gutters on site, they are beautiful. I would say at the end of day two they were more than 2/3 done with the shingles. The shingles we selected were not your standard shingle, they were the presentation architectural composition shingle from CertainTeed, they have a beautiful design when on a roof but there is more involved in their installation. Day 3- They were done with everything including the beautiful ridge vent that goes along the top of the house and garage for ventilation along with gutters and downspouts by 1:30pm. It looks so amazing, my husband and I could not be any happier with their work. · One more great thing about TK roofing is that every night they cleaned the place before they left. They took away all the trash too, no large dumpster sitting in front of our house. The place looked great every single night. I have two small kids so this was a big deal to me making sure that none of the staples or nails or other debris was out and around the house. · Price- Like I said at the beginning of this long review I had no idea what to expect when it came to price or anything else for that matter when purchasing a roof. We went out and got 8 different bids, TK roofing was fantastic on price, so good in fact many of the other bids were several thousand dollars more and they were going to take over a week to re-roof our house. TK roofing is a family business and they care about quality. A few of the other larger places we looked into were a several crew operation where they might have 10 different jobs all going at one time, when you get that big you can lose some quality control and accountability. We simply cannot thank TK roofing enough for the quality and value we received. When talking with the crew I could tell they really loved their jobs and it shows in the quality of work. It gives my husband and I great peace of mind knowing that we are going to have a strong an beautiful roof that will last us for years to come.

I had to push and pull for them to honor the warranty, but they did stand by their work. I think most of the problem was with the material that they used originally. I wasn't happy thus with the quality of their work. I don't think they did their homework on the material they used and that is why they had to come back and do warranty work on it. The job seemed to turn out okay. Because of our relationship where I had to push them a little bit and the warranty issue, it cost them money and cost me some money. I would probably not use them again in the future just because there were some contentious aspects. I spent $2000 for their work.

We have worked with Mark Knutson for several years, beginning when he installed our new tile roof. The work done at that time was exceptional. Our roof is beautiful and was done in a totally professional manner. The cost was much less than we expected. Mark is down to earth, not flashy, not trying to "sell". He treated us with respect and courtesy and gave us a great roof. We have referred him to 3 other friends that have all used him to do their roofs - with the same great outcomes. He has also done the 'cleaning' service twice for us at a great price.I would never want to use another roofer.
