Western Roofing Systems

We initiated contracts, we paid a 3500 deposit, 3 weeks ago, Jerry was the sales guy, he was puctual and on time collecting signatures and deposits. Since three weeks ago, we were asigned an installer his name is Roy Perez, I met with him personally on a weekend to give him access to the job site, spent 3 hours planning and detailing, agreed on all stages of install etc. Since then, all we have been getting is delays and we need more details on something here or there. I even have to remind him who I am every time I call him, he is rude, disrespectful and lacking in customer service experience. If I tell him I was told x by the sales team his answer is I am installation and I am telling how it is. I left town on vacation a week ago, my project manager contacted roy again, agreed on all details a week ago, was supposed to start the job this week, again we are getting excused on monday that the y can not start on Tuesday because rain is coming on Thursday. With attitude and a very rude tone almost making us feel like they want us to break the contract and go to litigation. This company is either not very ethical or extremely miss managed.

The work crews were great, on-time, efficient, and easy to work with. They worked long hours on some days to get to a good stopping place, cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day, even using a magnetic roller to find all the nails from the roof. They took care of disposal of all the old roof and all other excess materials. One of the biggest challenges was coordination with the solar company and they stuck with it until we got it all completed. The results are amazing, and the roof looks wonderful. Given the steepness and complexity of the roof, it was not much more expensive than quotes for an asphalt roof. In addition, the second floor seems to be significantly cooler than when we had the asphalt roofing (we have no central AC in the house), and the roof has a 50 year guarantee.

I helped my 90 year old mother pick this firm to re-roof her house. She wrote the following: Dear Angies List,I am happy to report to you my experiences with a company on your list-Western Roofing Systems. My son helped interview them before we picked them. He, being a building contractor, knew the right questions to ask. Their answers impressed him so much, we decided not to interview the other two companies we had planned to talk to and we immediately gave Western Roofing our business. It was a great success. The crew worked hard, did an excellent job, cleaned up every day before they left, took only one week to do an excellent job. I had dreaded the mess and noise of the job, but it turned out better than I had ever hoped. one further note from the son: the other two companies we considered, though highly rated, were unwilling to make a weekend appointment or even an appointment that would fit our time frame (too bad for them). Kari (sp?) actually made three trips to our house to make this happen. Also, thanks to Andy, the PM, for giving the extra service necessary to make my mom feel comfortable with whole process.

Since we live downhill, our roof is very visible and we have received a multitude of compliments on how beautiful our roof looks. We had chosen the Mission Gold Roman Tile style material and surprisingly, everyone thinks it is a tile roof. It looks that realistic. Western Roofing Systems did a very good installation job and the roof looks as great today as a decade ago. The new higher gutters to match the roof color compliment well. We are also glad we chose a lighter color metal roof material installed over wedgit foam. Our neighbor has a black roof and during hot days they turn on their air conditioning by 10am as the house is already uncomfortably warm, whereas ours does not warm up until 4pm. We also have high winds in the hills, which caused shingles to fly off, but we have had no problems with the metal roof. Also it is quiet during rainfalls. Since we have been happy with Western Roofing Systems’ service, quality or material and workmanship, we highly recommend the company. Furthermore the cost of their roofing is very reasonable.

We had a lot of termite damage and they did an excellent job to fix the woodwork. The workers were polite, tidy and communicated regularly on the status.

Mr. Alacorn initially visited our house to give a bid on the job, giving us two figures depending upon whether we wanted the new roof to be asphalt vs. stone-coated steel. He was friendly and interactive, and he was readily available to answer my numerous questions via phone or email. Out of four total bids, Western's bid (whether we chose asphalt or metal) was the best. There was an initial issue regarding the quoted bid, but this was settled amicably and Mr. Alacorn was very responsive to our concerns. We also chose Western because the very hot area in which we live made a metal roof along with an energy-star-rated color of stone seem a worthwhile energy solution. When we settled on Western, we indicated that the job needed to be completed within two weeks, or otherwise not til after Memorial Day, and Western responded by scheduling the job quite soon. The roofers were punctual and accomplished a lot of work each day, and the job took one week. Mr. Melgoza was the job supervisor and made himself easily accessible, answering all our questions throughout the job. The individual roofers were also universally friendly and seemed to be proud of their work and of the product-- eagerly showing me, for instance, the difference in temperature between the old roof over the enclosure and the new white torchdown, as well as the structure of the special edge pieces which allow airflow under the roof for above-sheathing ventilation. The final job looks wonderful, and neighbors have all expressed both interest in the material and approval of the overall look. There has already been a disernible difference in the temperature of our home and the air conditioner does not switch on so early nor so often. That's very nice. I would add that the final clean up was very good, and we are satisfied. However, I have two suggestions for the crew: 1) Knowing that we have small children, it would have relieved some of our anxiety if the supervisor had preempted our many questions regarding clean up to simply and proactively explain exactly what would be involved to make sure that, as much as possible, no stray nails would be left on the property. 2) Since the job took a week, including the weekend-- during which the job was suspended until the start of the work week-- the tool used to cut the metal shingles should have been taken back by the crew and not left on our property. Nothing dangerous happened, but it might be an easy way for Western to avoid a potentially bad accident in the future given that children are likely to explore large tools left on the property. Nonetheless, we are very happy both with the final product and the very thorough cleanup which occurred when the project was completed.

In a nutshell, our bid agreement included the work and replacement of all damaged wood they could see at the time of the estimate--for the $5K charge. I agreed to pay for any additional wood, at a board-foot price, on what they found was dry-rot damaged after the steel tiles were pulled back. It was assumed, correctly so, that substantial damage would be found after the work startedand mdash;and nearly every edge and underlying ship-lap board needed replacement. Western Roofing Systems did a phenomenal job. On a very timely basis, they hit it hard each and every day. They replaced substantial timber sections and ship lap boards, and they did all of this without substantially denting or damaging the rest of the steel tiled roof. They were so diligent in their work, and so fair with me on the price, the substantial wood replacement only cost about $1200 more. They replaced all the edging with new 6x6 and 2x4 lumbers, and the wood was all primed and painted. Then the flashing they installed with a more complex and durable design that's more capable in protecting the roof and the timbers. After all the work was done, on what we both agreed to, I found the crew went above and beyond in their care and attention to detail on my home. They went around the roof and repainted all the metal attic vents, pass ways, and edging pieces to match the original steel tiles. In essence my roof top looks brand new, like it was an original installation. This even included the crew coming back after the recent heavy rains to adjust my rain guttersand mdash;which absolutely wasn't part of any contract. The Western crew was making sure I was a completely satisfied customer, and I am. I told the company owner I was so impressed with the service and the results that I was going to write this evaluation and tell the other Angie's clients to use Western Roofing Systems for any roofing installation or roof repair. I asked for quotes from three companies in total. Western came in with the best price and I had complete confidence in their ability, mostly because roofing is their bread and butter so to speak. They have also been in business for over two decades. Jerry came out to speak to me and my husband, he made me feel comfortable that he knew what he was doing and that he would do it well. In the end we decided to go with a contractor because we needed a bit of work done inside our home and this other company put together a better financing option for us. Jerry followed up with us promptly but was gracious when I informed him that we decided to go with someone else.

Overall, I found Mr. Frost to be the honest professional that Angie's List reviewers represent him to be.

We couldn't be happier. Jerry and the workers were pleasant and professional. We had solar panels installed at the same time. So the roofers had to coordinate with the solar installers. They did great. We've checked our attic during and after each heavy down pour, and have NOT seen any leaks. They also did a great job cleaning up afterward too. We love our metal roof.

They are fairly priced compared to my other 2 bids. One other popular company on craigslist was absurdly priced at over 50% more. I would use them again.

They delivered the wrong material, wrong color of material, they delivered the wrong van for the roof, they said they were going to replace the ven caps with new ones and they didn't. They came later than they were supposed to, I had already had the painters scheduled to come in after them and so that put off the painters, off of schedule. We had a leak within the first year, so they had to come out and fix the roof. I would not recommend them. Our rep was good and he followed up and tried to correct stuff but he wasn't the one directly responsible for the shipment, with the wrong material. He was good but the actual experience was not good. They charged extra for any fascia boards that they needed to replace and of course they needed to replace some, whether they really needed to or not I question that. I looked at the boards they replaced and they looked just fine, in fact better than the ones they replaced them with. Price was average compared to other roofing companies. With our previous roof we never had leaks like that. They were one of the few companies that offered the roofing product that we wanted. The roofing product I was pleased with, it has a 50 year warranty, it is steal roofing. It has a baked color and rocks on it. I do like the product if I could find somebody else that had the same product I would probably go with them.

The quality of work is real good. They worked hard at it and it took them longer than anticipated. I pointed out a couple places where adjustments needed to be made and they made those changes.

They were very good, and they explained everything. They were a little on the expensive side. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

The tear off revealed more layers than thought so it increased price. This was expected due to the age of house. The roof was competed in about 4 days. Workmanship was a high standard. I was very satisfied.

Western Roofing came out and inspected the existing roof and gave us an estimate on the spot for what I requested. Their estimate was in line with other estimates we received from different companies. We decided to go with them because they specialize in these metal roofs and I have read many good reviews about them. Plus the metal roofs come with a 50 year guarantee. I gave them a downpayment and they were able to start within a few days. The workers were on time, did great work and the job was completed in about 4 days and they did a good job cleaning up. Western Roofing came by after the job was done and performed a final inspection and made sure we were happy with everything. We love the roof and have had many compliments from neighbors. I would recommend Western Roofing!

They will be starting work next week. We have already signed the agreement and contract. The salesperson was very thorough and very upfront. He was also personable and very businesslike.

12/22/10 I called Western Roofing to get an estimate for my leaking roof above the car garage. Spoke to Jason and schedule the appointment for 12/23/10 Thursday @ 10:00 a.m. with Warren the Technician that will give me an estimate for my leaking roof. The following day, 12/23/10 @ 7:45 a.m. Warren the Technician phoned me, and said someone at his office double booked him and was wondering, if he can push it back to at later time instead. I said 4:00 p.m. is fine. I waited all day and no sign of Warren. I called the office 12/23 @ 4:05 pm. wondering where the Tech? they said they'll get back to me. waited 'til 6:00 p.m. called almost 4 times the office, people I talked to was unprofessional and doesn't follow through. I wouldn't use this unreliable Roofing Co again. I will tell my friends and family about my experienced about this Western Roofing Co. As far as I'm concern the company gets a big fat F.

Everyone at Western Roofing was very friendly and professional. I dealt with Jerry and he could not have been a more down to earth guy. They took care of the permits and they got the job done promptly. Jerry was very mindful of my budget and worked hard to save me money. I would definitely go with these guys again.

Juan and his crew were very meticulous in installing the roof and did a great job cleaning up at the end of each day. We also had another company install photo voltaic and solar water heating supports at the same time. Juan and his crew had to do a lot of extra work around these mounts: cutting the roofing material, install flashing. The light weight metal roof pieces are screwed on. The end result is a beautiful white roof, with 50-year warranty. We finally had a hot day for us to check the temperature in the late afternoon, and it is much cooler than before. Comparing the cost of these metal roof with composite shingles, it is definitely worth the extra cost, considering the difference in warranty. We would definitely use Western Roofing again if we have another house.

Excellent. They came on time, removed the old roofing, cleaned up all of that,and put on a new roof all in 2 and a half days. When they left,everything was cleaned up and the house looked great.

They started out with a high price but I worked them down to a price that I felt comfortable with. They came out in 4 days and they were down. There is supposed to be a $1500 stimulation program and they didn't even tell me about it.

Excellent. We couldn't be happier. The roof looks spectacular and Marcos and his crew were a pleasure to work with, even with my close scrutiny and added requests. They were very patient and professional and did a good job of cleaning up each day.

Wonderful experience! Could not of picked a better company to do the job. They took 4 days, cleaned up after themselves including all the dropped nails. Roof looks like tile, it's done so well.
