I had to have the exterior security iron window guards removed the next day so that the new windows could be installed and Tom's Iron Works came the very next day I called for the appointment and did the work within 30 minutes. I was pleased with the work done. Very professional.

The two men who came out were professional, kind, and accommodated my request to modify the installation after they already started work. They provided a quality product for a very reasonable price. The end result was exactly what I hoped for.

I was extremely pleased with the work. The new fence matches exactly to the rest of the fence. This contractor was the only one who was able to meet my 2-week deadline, I needed the fence up as I had already scheduled an event in my backyard. The contractor met my deadline. He was professional at all times.

They were fantastic. They were the lowest estimate, while still providing high quality work. They worked with us on a design and even repaired some wrought iron in our yard while they were here at a minimal cost. I would highly recommend this contractor and will be using them again to build a new back yard fence for me.

Along with an estimate, Tom was helpful with his suggestions and insight on how we could improve the aesthetics and functionality of our old, rusted iron fence. We decided to go with his business and made an appointment a few weeks later. On the day of the appointment, there was confusion of the arrival time. We spoke to a company operator to get clarification but did not receive a response from Tom until we called again hours later. Tom's brother Sam arrived that afternoon. He asked questions to make sure each task met our specifications before proceeding. At the same time, he took initiative in adding components that we had not considered. For example, we wanted an extraneous rod removed from one gate but decided against it after Sam showed how the gate would not remain open without it. On his own, he added a lip for the rod and drilled a hole in the driveway to ensure the gate remained secure both opened and closed. Sam took time to paint the latches, and he swept the work area before the job was complete. He even charged us less after feeling that, while he completed all tasks, the job was not as difficult as estimated. We will definitely consider Tom's Iron Works for future jobs.

The end result was very good - it almost looked brand new. The only issue I had was the gate had to be returned because the color was not correct. I believe the 3rd party made the mistake because my paperwork indicated the correct number for the color I wanted. Tom's Iron Work's rushed the job and got it back to me in 5 days. They came on time and met all of their commitments. I am happy with the results. I gave the price a "B" because II only had a price quote for a new gate and it was about $250 more.
Description of Work: Repaired iron gate. Removed gate took to their shop and repaired the damage from water; scrapped paint and metalized the entire gate (including gate stop and screen) then sent out to a 3rd party to have it powdered coated.

Our front porch wrought iron hand rails needed repair and I called Tom's Iron works for an estimate because the Angie's List reviews were good and they did jobs of all sizes. We scheduled the estimate for 5/29/14 at 1:00pm. Tom called that day to ask if he could arrive earlier and we accomodated him. After providing a written estimate, Tom told my husband he could do the work "next week" and to call the office to schedule an appointment. I called the office on 5/30/14 and a young man stated he would give Tom the message. Tom returned the call on 5/31/14. He seemed reluctant to commit to a date and stated he would have to call back regarding scheduling the work. He never did. I located a non-Angie's List service provider and the repairs have since been completed.

This is a family business. The owners are very nice people and they might be very good in other kind of iron work. However, they are not good with building and installing stair railings: The price was good and I read very good reviews on their work on Angie's list. Tom showed us some pictures of the brackets and brought some railing and bracket samples to our house which was very good. After we picked the railing and the brackets, they built the railings in their shop in a timely manner. However, the installation was a disaster. Sam (Tom's brother) and another worker came to our house to install the railings. After they hastily finished their work, iron brackets that hold the railing were not straight at all. Some of them went straight up to the railings. However, two of them at the end of the railing were attached to the railing in 45 degree angle. When I asked them why the brackets weren't straight, they told me the 2x4s in the wall were so far apart that the brackets at the ends had to be installed right underneath the caps. I opened up a light switch to show them there was a 2x4 farther away from the end cap. Also, the brackets that were going up straight to support the railing were tilted. Sam and the worker had to come in one more time to fix the brackets. While fixing the brackets, they scratched one of the stairs which was made of natural stone (travertine). The second time, they left without filing the weld joints. Tom had to come by for the third time to file/smoothen the weld joints. After they were completely done, I noticed that the railings themselves are not straight at all.

I contacted this company due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback received, however, I have not had a similar experience. The property: The property is a condominium complex located near Kenneth Hahn Park in Los Angeles, CA. There are six different buildings with a total of 64 attached condo/townhouses. I do not know the amount of acres, but the walkthrough took about 1.5 hours in total.meone to establish new gates to secure the trash bins, repair damaged iron gates and replace broken gates in certain areas. Throughout the walkthrough, Sam, the contractor was very pleasant and professional, but it appeared that his notes were unorganized for the size and amount of work of the complex. Additionally, we had to tell him the areas that needed to be fixed. He did not proactively identify problem areas. The HOA Board is researching various companies to complex iron work repairs/replacement. We need someone to establish new gates to secure the trash bins, repair damaged iron gates and replace broken gates in certain areas. Throughout the walkthrough, Sam, the contractor was very pleasant, but it appeared that his notes were unorganized for the size and amount of work of the complex. Additionally, we had to tell him the areas that needed to be fixed. He did not proactively identify problem areas. My appointment was on the 17th, and I was told I would have the estimate by that Sunday. However, as of today, May 1st, I still have yet to receive an estimate. Additionally, the company did not follow-up with me to explain the reason for delay. I contacted them on Tuesday, April 29th, to follow-up with them regarding the estimate. Someone from the company said they would have to contact the person who completed the walkthrough, Sam. He called me back within 10 minutes and stated that the estimate would be emailed by the end of the next day. (Note: I never received an estimate). I recognize that this is probably a one off situation, but I would not feel comfortable doing business with this company, based on my initial experience during the estimation process.

I have two iron gates that I've had trouble opening, for the longest time. They used to jam at the bottom either due to the gates having sagged, or the concrete walkway having heaved over time. I eventually decided to do something about it. I placed a call to Tom's Iron Works, which was one of the top rated providers in this area. A gentleman named Sam promptly came the next morning to give an estimate. Once he told me what it would cost (which was very reasonable), I asked him to begin right away. Over the next 3 hours, Sam diligently cut out the old gate where it was attached to the wall, straightened the gate where it was bent, raised and reattached it to the wall, added a lockbox and a deadbolt (I provided the deadbolt), and painted the new areas so they matched the rest of the gate. He did this for both gates. The end result was fully functional gates that now open quietly with a finger. I wish I had called him years ago!!
Description of Work: Raised two iron gates that were sagging and scraping on the concrete. Attached lock-boxes with dead bolts on both.

We received a very reasonable quote and was told the gate would be completed within a week. True to their word it was exactly a week that they came out and installed the gate. The quality of the gate was excellent as well as the installation (one side went into the house stucco the other side into a block wall). We are extremely happy with the work completed and highly recommend Tom's Iron Works.

I have two galvanized metal posts on the side of my house left over after I removed a chain link gate. I also have two wrought-iron driveway sliding gates that I didn't want to use. My neighbor gave me the idea of turning the smaller 12-foot gate into a 2-piece swinging gate on the side of the house. The job was to take out a 2-foot section in the middle of the gate so it will fit into the 10-foot area between the posts, weld a frame piece on each section to finish off the cut, cut off the wheels and any projections below the bottom frame piece, weld on a latch mechanism at the top in the middle, put a pole latch on one of the gates (the kind you pull up and push down into a receptacle in the ground) to hold one of the gates in place, mount the gates on hinges welded to the metal posts, and install a gate-stop near the house to protect a sliding glass door from the gate swinging in to it. They also added supporting brackets on each metal post to a block wall on one side and to the house on the other. This is because the gates are rather heavy. The job came out beautifully. The gate is symmetrical and looks exactly like I was hoping it would. If you drive by my house, you can take a look . It took Tom and his assistant about 4 hours to complete the job.

The date for installation was provided by Tom's and two workers came and installed it in one day. This included the installation of the gate along with the motor and the applicable electrical work. The line was run under the ground next to the driveway and it was almost imperceptible after it had been placed. The work took the entire day and both employees worked tirelessly to ensure that the work was completed the same day. I am very happy with the finished product. The "gate" that I had inherited with the purchase of the home was severely damaged and pitted from years of abuse from weather and lack of upkeep. Replacing that gate was high on my to-do list and Tom's made it possible. I received three estimates prior to going with Tom's and his company came in several hundred dollars lower than one and two hundred lower than another. Quality is important but a bearable price tag makes things even better. I would strongly encourage anyone who is looking for a motorized gate to consider Tom's Iron Works.

I had a metal railing where the posts had rusted through at the base and had broken from the base. It is a small job and I called Tom's Iron Works and sent them photos of the broken posts to see if they could do the work. About a day later, I got a call from Sam. We talked about how he would repair the broken posts and the approximate cost. His plan/methods and price sounded fine to me and we scheduled a time on the following Saturday. Sam showed up right on time. He did the work in about 2 hours and cleaned up after himself. He charged me just what he had quoted to me. I would use Sam and Tom's Iron Works again.

I called Tom's Iron Works to see if he could weld the broken foot of a wrought iron bench that I was restoring. He responded by saying that he needed to see pictures of the job to determine if he could do the work. I emailed four photos that I shot on smart phone. He called back a couple hours later and said that he could do the job. A couple of days later, I brought the part of the bench that needed the weld, along with the broken foot. He looked at the items and then asked if I could leave the work overnight. It was a little inconvenience, considering that it would have taken him about 20 minutes to do the job. But I suspect that he didn't have the right materials to do the work on the spot. So rather than raise the roof, I decided to let it go and come back, because I wanted the job done right. The next day, I returned, and I was right to be patient because the job was done well and looked great. The price was pretty reasonable too.
