I got a referral to call this company for siding. The man showed up 2hrs late, and never called to say he was going to be late. The whole time he was making small talk about restaurants in the area. He told me that it would cost less than $10,000.00 for the whole job. Two days later I got an email and they doubled the price to $20,000.00. I called him to question this, and he had nothing to say but, yeah that's what it is.

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately our measure expert did have the wrong phone number and was unable to reach you to advise of his traffic delay. We have a policy of never giving on site estimates as there is a great deal of work that goes in to calculating each unique bid, we apologize that there may have been some confusion. We absolutely wish you the best in your home improvement project and hope you are able to find the perfect contractor for you and your home.

These guys did a great job. Alyssa was very patient and helpful in navigating me through the various decision points. The cost of the work was more reasonable than some of the other quotes I received. The crew were very friendly and professional. I am very pleased with the outcome. It feels like a whole new house!

The work crew, Eli and Jose from Specialty Siding arrived as scheduled each day and cleaned everything up at the end of the day. On the last day of the job they worked late to finish, even making the extra effort to install a new outdoor entry light where the siding was replaced. Dave Lamy and Alyssa Huber were great to work with. I highly recommend Specialty Siding to anyone considering replacing the siding on their house. I had estimates from two other contractors before finding Specialty Siding on Angies List and selected Specialty Siding based on their professionalism, price and the fact they specialize in just doing siding. I found other building contractors will do a new siding job but don't specialize in it, which makes a big difference.

I spent about 5 hours and went back and forth with this vendor for over a month to prepare a bid to redo the siding on our condominium project. After wrangling my HOA to come up with a date that we could all meet, we had decided that we would meet on Dec 5th. I sent numerous emails and called numerous times over the month to get a confirmation on the date. I was told that this wouldn't be a problem, but that they couldn't confirm the date to meet yet without speaking to the sales team. The sales team did not get back to me until today, only to tell me that they are all booked up now and wouldn't be able to meet for the next two weekends and that after that, he was on vacation. I then asked if there was a time that we could meet in the evening in the next month, I was then told no, that was not possible. I then asked if he could simply provide me with a day/time that we could meet with the understanding that it had to be on a night or a weekend to present to the HOA. He then said he was going to simply not bid on the project in a very rude fashion. Thank god I was able to vet them prior to a contract being signed. If they are this bad during the sales process, I can only imagine what it would have been like after signing an agreement. Don't waste your time on them, I sure wish I could get mine back...

We at Specialty Siding apologize that we were not able to make our schedule work to meet with you before the upcoming holiday to provide you with pricing/a bid on your project. When we spoke on the phone you admittedly let us know that you had lost your cool with our staff and made harsh and inappropriate comments, including the use of profanity. We firmly believe in the proper treatment of all individuals, especially our team members. We appreciate your feedback and will take this into consideration when reviewing potential bids in the future. As we understand there were several siding vendors that will be meeting with you on the date that worked for you and the other homeowners involved, we wish you the best with these vendors and am confident that you will find the right contractor for you and your particular needs. To all other potential and returning customers - We encourage you to read through our other reviews from customers for whom we have completed work and see that our craftsmanship and service come highly recommended.

We are EXTREMELY happy with the outcome of our project that we had envisioned for many many months. Dave came out to do our quote and then came out a few other times at our request to make sure we were all on the same page. Dave is definitely stands by his word on what was delivered. Manuel was the foreman and Manuel and his crew worked very hard and made sure to please us in every way. He would make sure to ask us each step of the way how we liked what they did cause if not he would change it. There were a couple of things we suggested we preferred and he did not hesititate to make the correction and make it to perfection. This company is booked out a few weeks but it is DEFINITELY WORTH THE WAIT!!!
Description of Work: Specialty Siding did an abundance of work to our exterior of our home. From removing stucco and old siding to old replacing decorative wood and Fascia boards. We had them replace window trim and garage door trim. Then they put the exterior wrap and oh they also replaced numerous termite damaged studs on our garage. The final product was putting up new James Hardie Fiber Cement siding and we incorporated staggered shingles in the gables. It looks amazing.

My experience with Specialty Siding was great. Specialty Siding gave me an estimate based on pictures and measurements I sent them, which I really appreciated. It was great to not have to schedule a time for someone to come by. And yes, they did only charge me for the estimate. Initially, I was asking about vinyl, but they steered me to a different product that looked more like wood, and unlike vinyl could be painted. The crew showed up on time and finished the work really quickly. They did two things that made me think they do quality work... First, they were able to join the cement siding to some existing wood siding virtually seamlessly. That saved me a lot of money by not having to replace non-problematic wood just to make the join match. Also, some of the wood they were replacing had been fashioned into a crude door that was used to access a small storage space. The door was falling apart as well, and they rebuilt it using the cement siding. It's now much sturdier and looks much better too! I'm writing this review three months after the install, and I've had no issues whatsoever.
Description of Work: We had an area of the house that never got sun and was hit by the sprinklers, so it never really dried. As a result, our wooden siding was rotting and falling apart.

This review is regarding what occurred after the siding was installed. Our contract was with Specialty Siding which was paid in full. A few months later, we received a manufacturers lien on the house from Ganahl Lumber in the amount of $1,400. We called and spoke with Gail at Specialty Siding who apolgized profusely and said they would pay their bill with Ganahl and it was some oversight. On May 2nd, we received another notice from Ganahl of the unpaid bill and the lien on the house. Specialty Siding never did pay the bill. In fact, we called Ganahl (which we should have done to begin with) and discovered that Specialty owes this lumber company $70,000 and our home and many others homes are now responsible! This is criminal!

As the new owners of Specialty Siding, we sincerely apologize that you did not have a positive experience after the work was completed. We understand that it was your mother who was the customer and we were able to do everything on our part to get the situation solved swiftly for her. The lien was paid and released in a timely fashion and, although Ganahl had advised against paying them anything, a refund was issued to you by Ganahl Lumber since the bill was already paid by the previous owners of Specialty Siding. While the situation you were put in may reflect poorly on the previous owners, we sincerely hope that you will consider placing the new ownership in a better light. We are happy to answer any questions you may have on the matter and should anything else come up we are here to help make it right.

We are DYIers and bought an older distressed home to gut and remodel. In the process, we have used several contractors and have done a lot of the work ourselves. This company is one of the best contractors we have used. There was approximately 5,000 sq ft of siding that needed to be replaced. The old wood siding was leaking with dry rot and termites. Dave, the sales rep, was knowledgeable, attentive, professional, and explained everything thoroughly. He gave us a list of references and homes we could drive by to see examples of jobs they had completed. He and the owner, Mike, came by to check on our project several times during the installation. The Job foreman was very personable, knowledgeable, and professional as were all the employees. They were meticulous. The installation, seaming, and trim were done perfectly. It took about 4 to 5 weeks to complete. Specialty siding was the only company we contacted that had their own scaffolding and jump jacks to do the 41 foot high side of home which sloped down a hill. The other companies we got estimates from did not have their own scaffolding and needed to rent scaffolding which drove up the cost significantly. We enjoyed getting to know all the crew at Specialty Siding and working with them was a pleasure. Thank you to all the wonderful people of Specialty Siding! As an aside, about the time we started on the siding, we were having a great deal of difficulty finding a general contractor to address foundation issues (which required excavation), install beams, framing, windows, and plumbing. Mike, the owner referred us to the general contractor he personally uses, Soyland Enterprises, and he also did a fanstastic job.

Specialty siding came out and created a thorough proposal, meeting all of our needs. Their pricing came out exactly the same as another vendor's, but I felt much more comfortable with Dave, as well as the positive reviews on Angie's List. As you can see by the pictures, we had a dated 1970's style home, with wood siding that had suffered from weather and termites. Our original plan was simply to paint the wood, But, you know how that goes - our vision for the project kept growing to the point that we decided to completely replace the wood with cement board siding. The demolition work was done by a 2 person team and happened over a 2 day period. Then the work of installing the insulation and vapor barrier happened. Our chief installer was so meticulous and accurate, matching my anal style to a 'T'. My only complaint is that this 2 person team needed to grow much sooner to the 4-5 person team needed to move things along. The original estimate was around 5-6 days to install, but in the end it took closer to 14 days. This caused a domino effect in my contracted patio cover install and paint job. Oh well - in the end, that delay was worth it since the job was done to perfection, and the house looks beautiful! And the boxing in of the eaves improves the curb appeal of the house. I would definitely hire Specialty Siding again!
Description of Work: Replaced 40 year old wood siding at the front of the house, with cement board siding. Also replaced stucco under a bay window with siding. Lastly, had the under eaves boxed in using cement board around the entire house. I had the painting done by another company. I also involved an electrician to move 2 lights, add 2 lights, and add 3 electrical boxes (for Xmas lights). Specialty Siding handled the city permits for the siding project.

The company representative (Dave) was very professional. His first visit was for measuring the area and showing me samples. There was absolutely no sales pressure and the written estimate followed promptly a few days later. Once the manufacturer delivered the materials, the work was finished within a few days. I am very happy with the way the work was performed. The house front looks fabulous, and I no longer have to worry about root rot or blistered and cracked paint. As a widow, I have had some bad experiences with high pressure salesmen. This was absolutely not the case with Specialty siding. I would hire them again and also recommend them to my friends.

Everything was going pretty good when they painted the exterior of the mobile home and garage. This included the existing brick, eaves and overhangs, walls and trim. They put on two coats of paint. They dripped that paint from one end of my concrete work to the other. They were just sloppy with the paint job. The house came out fine but they could have protected my concrete or attempted to clean up the mess. They said that they clean up their job site daily but they didn't clean up their drippings. When they came to do the paint, they had two buckets of the paint. They painted and everything was fine. I noticed that they had my left my paint in the back of their truck when I had purchased it. I explained that I had paid for the paint and would need it in the case that there would be touch ups. As I was walking back into the house I noticed that they hadn't painted the garage door. I told them they missed it and they explained that they would call the garage door a trim. I called and spoke with Dave Lamly. He told me that they were going to keep the paint and the garage door was not included in the price. I called the office and spoke with a lady named Gail. She was very nice but she explained that the garage doors are considered trim but she said they would paint the garage door for an additional $100.00. I did get my paint back. The fact they were going to keep my paint made me think twice though. Why would they need my paint? I just thought this was unnecessary. I would recommend them but I would make sure you get clarification on what is to be painted and make sure it's in writing that you do get your paint back. UPDATE: Notice the date the above work was performed and notice the date of the Provider Response! Almost three years later!! This response from them is a total lie. They never addressed the clean up and never made it right! I have many pictures to prove it. I also have pictures of the 5 gal buckets of paint they claim they buy to save the customer money. Again, not true. The green paint they used on my home was barely used. Two gal at the most. The other three they were going to steal to save them money on primer on other jobs. Now I doubt they actually put two coats on at all. The only reason the trim paint wasn't 3/4 of the way full is because I made them paint the garage door. They never said one word about providing me with an extra gallon of paint for touch ups! They had the paint on the truck and had no intention of leaving me a drop except for what they dripped everywhere! In my original review I stated the problems and said that I would use them again since they did resolve the garage door issue. And guess what? I did use them again. On 7/28/15. They provided and installed a piece of Hardy Board across the bottom of a wall. No problem this time. Dave Lamy was not involved this time. Jack Dendy was the coordinator. Nice, and professional. Did what he said he would do and all was right. Now, in my review I will state that I would NEVER use them again! Because they lie and if you will lie you will steal! It's one thing to do a sloppy job and let it stay that way but to post a pack of lies three years later is beyond the pale! Do not use them. They are not honest. Bottom Line!!!
Description of Work: They worked on my siding. They removed one layer of existing damaged exterior wood siding on various locations of the home. They installed new Douglas Fur wood siding raw in the same location of where the old siding was removed. They also painted my mobile home and garage.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback. We did address the clean-up issues and apologized for this and made things right. When it comes to paint, we don't provide "extra" paint left behind, UNLESS it is specified that way. The detailed itemized contract does specify the scope of work to be performed under the contract. Sometimes we have to purchase larger quantities of paint, but we don't charge you for anything more than what it takes to get YOUR home done. If we can save money by buying a larger quantitiy of paint (say we need 8 gallons to do something, but buying two (2) 5 gallon containers is a better price), then we don't charge you extra... and we end up using the excess for primer coats of paint for other projects. It wouldn't be fair to charge for extra paint - unless You wanted extra paint. Upon request, we have agreed to purchase and provide an extra gallon of paint for a homeowner to have on the shelf for future use. However, we are not here to spend your money for you, so whatever the decision is, then that is what we do. We appreciate your business and thank you very much for choosing Specialty Siding!

Thank you for your feedback. In correction, Specialty Siding does NOT subcontract our work. There must be some confusion here. I have reviewed your job file and the siding crew who completed your installation has been working here for us as an employee since 2009. On this job, we did pick up where your former contractor who worked on your roof and tried to do your siding had left off. Perhaps there may be some confusion there... but Specialty Siding completed your installation by our in-house employees. We will gladly discuss any concerns that you may have with you further at anytime. Thank you for your business! Gail Motley, Corporate Officer

Specialty Siding did a great job from getting the permits to completing the work. They always showed up on time, worked hard for long hours, and cleaned up the site every day. Extremely professional. I can't get over how incredible the house looks now. The closer I look at the work they did, the more impressed I am. The Hardie siding is definitely high-grade and rock solid. They re-routed the exterior wires on my house (cable TV, etc.) and hid them neatly. They did everything they said they would do, on time and on budget. Very, very happy with them.
Description of Work: They removed all the horrible vinyl and aluminum siding from my house, put there by a previous owner who was more interested in saving a few bucks than how the house looked. After that, they stripped down the original wood siding (terrible shape) down to the studs. After installing insulation, they put on the Hardie Cement Fiber siding and four new windows.

A couple of minor glitches - had to wait a day for material to be available at manufacturer, delayed another day because of foreman's family emergency. Overall very smoothly. The workers did great job. There were small setbacks. The first few days there was no trailer(supposedly due to rain the weekend before)for the old siding so it got piled up on the driveway for 3 days. Which was unpleasant. Also near the end of the job they ran out of fascia material so the job was on hold for a week. Both small issues. The only oddity was that a partial final payment was requested while they were waiting on the additional materials. Since the job was not complete I kindly refused to which it seemed they were fine with. They left the remaining siding from the job in case of repairs or I replace he water heater with a tankless and need to reside the area behind it.
Description of Work: They were one of the highest estimates by a slight margin but their professionalism with the calls and estimates won me over. The job was to remove existing wood siding, install new insulation (no insulation previously), install 13 new windows, new siding and fascia on the whole house and garage.

Thank you for your Review. Unfortunately, the rain did cause us delays beyond our control, and the color of your material being special order required the factory to make it, as opposed to standard colors, where delay would not have been experienced. On behalf of all of us here at Specialty Siding, it has been our pleasure to work for you on the siding and window improvement projects for your home. We hope that you enjoy your home improvements for many, many years to come! I have attached a few before and after photos. The photos only reflect the work done by Specialty, we have not begun the hardscape at this time but entire front landscape will be removed and redone.
Description of Work: We used Specialty Siding to enclose the eaves on our house, replace our 35 year old siding and to install 2 new larger windows on the front. Specialty pulled the city building permits for us, they removed the old siding, they installed new plywood backing, and they wrapped the entire project prior to installing the siding. There were a few minor glitches along the way that caused the project to take a little longer than anticipated but overall we are very happy with the outcome. The workmanship was excellent and the workers were very easy to talk to. The Hardie Siding with Color Plus is a beautiful material that we’ve had many compliments on. Specialty provided samples to help us make an informed decision on colors and textures. We felt the project was a good value and fairly priced.

This was a drawn out stressful ordeal, and I'm not quite sure where to begin. Let's start with the positive: they did a great job with the siding. Other than only one guy showing up most days, and therefore taking way longer than expected, there were no major setbacks. Dave knows his stuff, and his knowledge and professionalism is what convinced us to go with Specialty Siding over Home Depot. If we had just done siding, it would've been a positive experience. Unfortunately I convinced my wife that it made the most sense to have Specialty Siding install new windows on the entire front of the house, including a huge bow window, instead of going with the window company (Pacific Shores) that did the new windows in the back. Not only did it cost $1000 more, which I thought would be worth it in time/coordination savings, but the installation was messy. Flaps of drywall were left hanging and the foreman insisted that he was done. There was no mud and tape (which to be fair, it said in the contract), no corner bead, no casings. We'd need to hire someone else to get the job ready for paint. We were expecting a paint-ready job, like we'd gotten for less money last time, so I talked to Dave about it. The owner came out, and was extremely friendly and helpful. He brought his own guy out the very next day to do the drywall, fix the casing around one of the windows, and fix a gap in the entryway step. Unfortunately his texture job was terrible and didn't match at all, and he didn't mask off the ceiling or the surrounding walls, so we ending up spending more money trying to clean up his work than it would've cost if I'd just hired a professional drywall guy from the beginning. Despite the painters' best efforts, the texture still looks way off. We had to paint a few extra walls, but didn't want to redo the ceilings, so the texture splatter is still there. He did a great job on the entryway though. The owner also offered to pay a roofer to reinstall the lightweight tiles that the siding guys had to move to do the windows over the garage, AFTER the painters did their work, which was much appreciated. We're still waiting for that appointment to be scheduled, but I'm confident it will go according to plan. That was a very nice gesture, above and beyond what was initially discussed. I could write a lot more - there was loads of drama - but you get the idea. To be fair, this was an unusual job, and the owner went out of his way to make things right. The whole team is friendly and likable, but at the end of the day, we're not happy with the way the windows came out. If we'd have left the windows to the window guys, and the siding to the siding guys, everyone would've been happy. Honestly, I didn't want to write this review, but I found the company on Angie's List, and feel obligated to share my experience.

Thank you for your review. We are a little bit taken back, as from our conversations, this review was a surprise to read. In reply, the advantages of having multiple contractors bid on jobs is that you get to meet multiple people, compare the prices, services, material quality, scope of work included, check their references, etc. to give you a good sense of who you will choose to do the job for you. We're proud that we are not a "high pressure" or "pushy" sales company. I guess the disadvantage of this multiple bid process can be the confusion when recalling which contractor was including which things and doing the job which way... which is why we stress the importance of having written itemized bids and written itemized contracts. The details when put in writing clarify the exact scope of work. In this case, yes, it was an unusual job, but not one that we couldn't handle. Some of the items that you were expecting and were upset about were clearly stated in the contract. Specialty Siding / MGM Enterprises, Inc. is a licensed B-General Contractor, not just a siding "specialty" contractor. We have proudly serviced Southern California property owners since 1989 with multiple types of projects. It would be unrealistic to think that a contractor can guarantee that nothing will ever go wrong on a job. However, the true test to know IF you have a good contractor is when something does go wrong, and if and how he/she will handle it. We feel that we stepped up and went above and beyond the contract for you. Thank you. We appreciate your business.

Great! The crew (Victor and Abraham) were on time each day and worked long hours in order to complete the job. Daily clean up was done as well. Our sales rep Dave was very kind and informative. He was very helpful in assisting me to understand all my options without me feeling pressured @ all! Also Gail the owner was wonderful! At times that I felt a bit confused with all the details she clarified things for me. Would definitely recommend Specialty Siding!

They don't service the San Fernando Valley.
Description of Work: Called on 06-18-13 and explained I had a small siding job and needed to replace 8-10 rafters and I was located in the San Fernando Valley. Mike said that was the valley was outside of their service area. I said oh, that was odd since I saw a response on Angie's List saying they go out to Sherman Oaks. He said, "Oh.". I thanked him and hung up.

They quoted about $28000. I don’t have too much to say about them. They were fine, but I didn't use them. I only dealt with the guy who was providing the quote and he was personable.

They were quite prompt and responsive. The workers they sent over worked very hard...about 10 hours per day. Kudos to Dave Lamy and Gail (who works in their office). Super folks! The only thing that I found to be a bad business practice was that they asked for the last of their payment before the city had come to do the final inspection. I had already paid 40% of the cost up front and another $340 for the city permit. But the head worker presented a bill to me before the quality of the work had been verified by the city inspector. I talked to them and they agreed to wait until the inspection was done. While this may be slightly inconvenient for them, this should be their regular policy and should be stipulated in any contracts with their future customers.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate and value your business, The new vinyl siding on your home looks great. On behalf of our staff, thank you very much for your compliments. They have been shared and are appreciated. To clarify your concern of our having any "bad business practice", the written contract agreement clearly specifies the terms of the contract and responsibility by the parties. The parties are expected to honor the entire contract agreement, not just parts or pieces. If there was a particular requirement that you desired, then that should have been agreed upon and documented as part of the contract agreement prior to acceptance. In this particular scenario, it was requested by the Property Owners that the permit was to be handled directly by the property owners, not by the contractor. We reluctantly agreed, as our regular services include our managing the applicable building permits for our work from the very first application visit with the city/county, all the way through the building inspector's Final Inspection Approval. We charge a flat rate to provide this "full service" for permit handling so that Property Owners don't have to go to the city/county to apply for a permit, provide the technical product data and explain the scope of work, secure the permit, or take time out of their busy schedules to coordinate and meet building inspectors (whether during or after the job, etc.) We also provide receipt copies to the property owner for the actual permit fees charged. With city furlough days and limited inspection availablility, coupled with a non-specified inspection time system, it is more challenging these days to get the inspections promptly. The "next day" inspection time is not always available anymore - and if you happen to have a holiday, with a weekend and a furlough day all together, you will be waiting a while for your inspection. Most inspections will specifiy a day requested - but that's not guaranteed, based on the inspector's work load - and usually comes without a morning or afternoon appointment guarantee. Sure, most times you can call in to request a time slot that the inspectors are "expected" to come by, usually by calling in early on the morning of the inspection, but there is no guarantee. (It would be hard to meet them on your lunch hour, as they usually provide a 4 or an 8 hour time window.) For this job, we completed the work and fulfilled the contract. To delay the final contract payment until the property owner's schedules for both Mr. & Mrs. to both be able to meet the building inspector at a future date that worked within their busy schedule - and not at the city's next available inspection date - unfortunately, was just not part of the contract agreement. The payment was due as the contract stated. We all have our obligations to meet. However, in the consturction industry, it is customary that not more than Up to 10% Retention of the Final Payment due should be withheld while waiting for a final approval (whether it be by a city/county inspector, Homeowner's Association, Project Architect, Lender, etc.) after contractor has fulfilled the contract, especially with property owner satisifed with contractor's work. This type of payment condition when applicable is written into the contract documents. This is usually more commonly found in new construction than remodeling, but can be for both. Even though this retention payment clause was not included in the contract, we did make such a request for a partial payment, with the remaining 10% balance to be paid at such time after the inspector was by for the final approval, but that was also refused. At Specialty Siding we do offer a five (5) year labor warranty on our new siding installations so even after a final payment is made, we don't just go away and disappear. In the unanticipated event that a building inspector did not pass an installation, then we IMMEDIATELY make remedy of this to achieve the final inspection approval, if ever needed. In addition, as licensed contractors, we are regulated by the Contractor's State License Board. In the event that the license board needed to take action against a contractor, then a property owner has that recourse as well. We apologize that the final payment request became a source of aggravation or upset for you. We sincerely hope that it doesn't take away from the over all job. The new siding looks beautiful and we expect that you will be enjoying it for many years to come! If you ever need any service, please don't hesitate to call upon us. We take great pride in our workmanship and our business practices since 1989. We thank you for your business. We appreciate the work! It has been our pleasure to work for you. Sincerely, Mike Motley, CEO/President
