Darren and his crew were great. The workmanship was excellent and professional. They were responsive to our feedback and completed the entire remodel on time and budget. We would hire Seacliff Builders for any future remodel jobs.

The quality of the work (especially the tile) has been excellent and all of the workers were extremely professional. They cleaned up every day. I was able to acquire the key materials (tile, fixtures, shower door, and toilet) from the suppliers of my choice. At the time the work was done, this contractor (and others) were very busy juggling many home remodeling projects, so the work took a bit longer than expected. I have another bath to remodel and plan to invite Seacliff Builders to bid on the job.
Description of Work: The work included retiling the shower in the master bath and replacing the shower fixtures, shower door, and toilet.

After obtaining several bids for our remodeling project, we chose to hire Seacliff Builders based on the company's positive reviews and our interactions with the owner, Darren. Darren's bid was fair and we felt he was straightforward and honest when he met with us for a free in-home consultation to discuss our project. Seacliff Builders provided the labor and construction materials and we provided the fixtures and finish materials. This was our first remodeling project and as such we had many questions and concerns. Darren was very open and receptive to all of our questions and concerns and worked with us extensively on the proposal as well as the contract to ensure that we were signing something we were comfortable with. Darren was also very responsive to all of my emails, texts, or phone calls, usually responding within the same day if not immediately. He also helped us with securing many of the materials we were responsible for in our project which was an immense help to us. In regards to the work, we replaced the wood flooring with porcelain tile in the half bath as well as installed a new toilet and exhaust fan. For the master bath, we did a full remodel including new walk-in shower, flooring, tub, toilet, vanity, etc. Darren also obtained the necessary permits for us. Darren's main employee Charlie completed demo on both baths and installation of drywall, fixtures, and finishes. Charlie was always on time, diligent, neat, and friendly throughout. Plumbing and electrical were subbed out and both were licensed. Tile work was completed by another sub and while there were some issues with the quality of work due to rushing/scheduling conflicts on the tile sub's part, Darren was very quick to address and rectify the situation when we brought it to his attention. While Darren did point out that the quality of the tile we chose may have contributed to the installation issues, he was still more than willing to make sure we were happy with the end result. Ultimately, the major problem areas were addressed and resolved and we were appreciative of Darren's professional and expeditious handling of the situation. Overall, we found that throughout the project, Darren was very easy to work with and he was very flexible and open to working with us when changes came up. When we wanted to change the design/placement of the shower niche, Darren was patient and worked with us to create a niche that worked for us despite being different from the agreed upon standard niche in our contract. Darren also provides a one year warranty on the work his company does and we experienced this when about a month after construction was completed we noticed a drop in shower water pressure and worried that there might be a leak in the plumbing. We contacted Darren and he came out the next day no questions asked. Thankfully there was no leak and just excessive sediment buildup from the pipes that had gotten into the shower head which he cleaned out and reinstalled for us. The level of customer service that Darren strives to provide to his customers and his open and honest approach to doing business is what impressed us most with Seacliff Builders and why we would consider hiring them again for any future projects.

We hired Darren and his crew when we went through total remodels of both of our bathrooms due to plumbing issues. We met with several contractors, but liked Darren and his quote was very reasonable. Darren was punctual and extremely responsive. He listened to concerns and helped us come up with resolutions. Darren's crew were extremely polite and the quality of work is exceptional. We LOVE our "new" bathrooms!

Things went well. The job took exactly 4 weeks as originally advised. They were not there all day, every day, but someone was there at least part of the each day. Darren is very easy to work with and listens well. If there were any issues, he had them corrected promptly. He is also very flexible if changes or additions are requested. The final product looks great and I look forward to walking in my front door every day! Will definitely hire again!

Due to some fairly extensive structural changes, we had plans prepared for city plan-check approval and sent to several contractors along with a detailed scope of work. We ended up choosing Seacliff Builders, even though Darren’s bid was not the lowest, because we felt immediately comfortable with his easy-going demeanor and swift grasp of project requirements, together with so many great Angie’s List reviews. Since we were going to live through the remodel process with all the mess, noise and disruption, it was vitally important that these issues be minimized. Darren’s crews did all they could to achieve that goal, from providing zip-walls to minimize dust entering our “safe zones”, to respecting our privacy and premises, to daily cleanup of work areas, to always being pleasant and courteous, to almost always being on-time. We were kept informed of upcoming disruptive events such as water and power outages. Not to say the whole process was blissful, but they tried very hard to keep it tolerable. Darren was responsive throughout and maintained good communication; he is quick at replying to text messages and prompt returning phone calls when he cannot answer. He is always friendly and thoughtful. Darren pays close attention to detail and ensures a quality finished product. He is more than fair; virtually nothing was out-of-scope. Changes we did request were priced reasonably. A good portion of our project was subcontracted due to size and complexity. The framing sub was really good, and fast, electricians and plumbers were exceptional, the granite guy did an excellent job on the quartz countertops; all were enjoyable and considerate. The only sub we were not totally happy with was the drywall installer/painter. Unfortunately, his portion of work was done the week before Christmas; they rushed to complete before Christmas Eve but could have spent another day to do a better job. I did not have Darren sub out flooring, backsplash or stone work as my nephew is a licensed contractor and did those items. Darren’s employees, Charlie and Aurelio, did kitchen demo and new cabinet installation, appliance installation and hook-ups, faucets and water supplies, sink drains, some of the drywall and patching/texture/painting, door demo/replacing/painting. Each is impressive with his own special talents, while both were always a pleasure to have working in our home. I was happy that Darren, along with critical subs, were all present during each city inspection to answer any concerns. Every inspection went smoothly though; these guys know when they see quality work. Since completion, we have called Darren for two very minor issues. He has responded immediately and sent Charlie to resolve things. He has reiterated that there is a one year warranty and all we have to do is call; I know he will continue to guaranty his work. Darren is easy-going, pleasant to work with, honest, responsive; a true professional. He delivers a high quality product. I strongly recommend Seacliff Builders.
Description of Work: Remove wall between kitchen and living room to create great room, demo entire kitchen, re-support roof ridge beam, raise kitchen and entry ceilings, frame and drywall new pantry, install all new kitchen cabinets, island and countertops, all new kitchen power, lighting and plumbing, remove wood wall covering and built-in book shelves and replace with drywall, replace doors and flooring throughout house, remove drywall corner bead and replace with bull-nose corners.

I can't sing enough praise for Darren and his team of workers on my large bathroom remodel. They completely tore everything out and threw it away. We extended our shower from a 4'X 4' to a 5' X 5" shower. We had one wall brought down to 50" which made it like a pony wall. We purchased new sinks, bath tub, lights, ceiling fan, high end Kohler medicine cabinets, new plumbing fixtures for shower, tub, and sinks. Darren installed even our towel bars, grab bars, and TV in the bathroom. Tile work not only included the shower, but the floor in the bathroom to outside the bathroom into a water closet, small kitchen (in master bedroom) and sitting area in master bedroom. He painted the bathroom, water closet, kitchen, and sitting area. He even hung our new 50" TV that we bought for our sitting area. New baseboards, new hinges, new door knobs, added new electrical to include the required GFI. Had new exhaust fan installed in ceiling as required by the city. Darren even went and pulled our city permits for us. Had one small issue that I had to call Darren back for and he fixed it immediately with no questions asked. He is a very easy person to get along with. Now that they're gone, I really miss the guys coming over as they were ALL great to include Darren. Thank you Darren for building our dream master bathroom. We use you again when we have another project?Denise

Overall went ok. Darren and his guys are easy going and easy to work with. But the job took longer than it should have. Work didn't start until one month after I gave the go ahead. And that's ok; the fact that they are busy is a good sign. But it took 7 weeks to complete a job that I expected to take about 3 weeks. And I had to repeatedly follow up to keep things moving. Also, there were some cleanup issues - my wife ended up cleaning up after the guys on a couple of occasions. On the other hand, the quality of the work they did was good, and the price was right. So overall, I'm satisfied. Update on 12/12/15: A month after the job was done, we realized that the backsplash was installed incorrectly. I notified Darren, and he promptly had it corrected. No delays, no arguments; he simply fixed the problem. Thank you Darren for standing by your work and providing great service!!

We found this company on Angie's List so we knew from the beginning that they would be good. They were really good! We met with three contractors and decided on Darren Howard's company Seacliff Builders. It was a good choice. The deal we struck was that my wife and I would locate and buy the vanities, sinks, etc. and Seacliff would install them. Darren works with a excellent subcontractors. His plumber, tile installer, electrician and so on all do very good work and are prompt. Each of them, Darren and his subcontractors, had good ideas for making the project better and we were smart enough to listen. We took two trips during the project, and Seacliff worked around these no problem. All the work they did was the best, the highest quality. On top of that Darren Howard is a great guy and fun to be around. Charley, has main carpenter, is very skilled and pleasant. In short, I highly recommend Seacliff Builders.

The owner Darren is very nice guy and always responsive to our phone calls. The worker always clean up at the end of every work day. The only issue I have is their scheduling and planning, which delay the progress. At times we were waiting for the plumbing or the tile guy schedule to free up in order to start their job portion. Other than that we are happy with the result and would recommend them to our friends.

Three complete shower demos and remodels. Two bathroom floors tiled. Not a penny over quoted bid. Very quick. We are doing a lot of the work ourselves but the showers and tile floor were beyond our capabilities. Beautifully tiled. Great wow factor. We received four bids and Seacliff was the second lowest. Seacliff has comparable ratings to the two (much) higher bids, but does not have as many. This was our second major remodel, so we wanted it done quickly and professionally, which is what occurred. Workers were on time or early every day. I communicated with Darren via email and always received prompt responses. I strongly recommend using Seacliff. If you do, ask for and take Alfredo's tile suggestions.

I tried to reach the company to have them quote my remodel and addition. I called the number provided and he did not answer. The bad part was I could not leave a voicemail because his voicemail box was full. So I called later, and he still did not answer. I was not sure if it was a cell phone or a land line. So I decided to text him to say his box was full and I wanted him to quote my job. He responded by text message within the hour saying he was in an appointment and would call. He called me a few hours later. We decided to meet two days later at 9:30 am at the property. Can I say that being a mom of a little child, it takes extra work to get them out of the house and somewhere on time. I was there at 9:30 am. But no contractor. I texted him at 9:50 am saying we had an appointment and was he on his way. He responded, "Can you send address. I'm in [a city 2 cities away] now and forgot address." First off, he had my number in his text messages and could have followed up if he could not find the address. What truly happened was he forgot about the appointment and stood me up. My time is so valuable, I felt like he put a higher value on his time, than my own. I told him to forget it. I don't want to do business with someone that doesn't respect my time, doesn't show up to scheduled appointments and doesn't have a voicemail that I can use to get in contact with him. Just my small experience. All the other reviews were great! So I hoped to work with him. But I can't move forward on a job with that sort of start. I hope this can be feedback for him to improve in a few areas.

I did not put appointment in my phone, so that was my fault. I sent a couple text messages as I was headed over and no response. I called and no answer. So how can I explain what went wrong if no answer. I have never missed an appt. until this day and felt terrible as it was a missed opoortunity. So for this to be written is unfair because there was no response from her.

This was a major project that was compounded by the fact that I am pregnant and on a strict timeline. Darren was extremely accommodating, honest, did excellent work, was available anytime I needed him, and did a bunch of extra stuff for us at no charge. I was not the biggest fan of some of his subcontractors, but Darren made sure they did excellent work, and made them fix stuff that hadn't even bothered me because he wanted everything to look great. Construction is as miserable as they say, and we did go over the timeline set. But I kept being surprised at how honest and good Darren was at his job. The house turned out beautiful, and Darren made sure I was completely happy with everything. I would definitely use him in the future and recommend him to anyone. I was pretty demanding and am a perfectionist, but Darren was excellent at meeting my expectations.
Description of Work: We completed an addition remodel of our house, which included adding on to the front of the house. We switched the location of the master bedroom/bathroom, and living room, added a laundry room, and opened the kitchen up to the new living room. It involved a complete remodel of the master bathroom as it was in a new location.

At first I interviewed and got bids from many contractors for different trades thinking that I would act as the general contractor, which I have done before. However, I came to realize that I no longer had the time to devote to that task to get it done quickly enough since the rental would be empty while the work occurred and I wanted to get the work done very quickly so I could start generating rent money. As such, I started interviewing general contractors with good reviews on Angie's list and got a bunch of bids. Several were unable to quickly get me bids and commit to the fast turnaround I needed. Others who bid wanted to give verbal bids which I found pretty useless. Only a few, including Darren (the owner) gave me sufficiently detailed bids to be worth pursuing. In getting the bids I found that I really liked dealing directly with the owner rather than with a sales person or other person who was not the owner. I wanted good communication, quick, quality work, a reasonable price, someone I could trust and someone who would be flexible if changes were needed along the way. I found all this in Darren. His bid was priced fairly. Although his bid was somewhat detailed, I am a very detailed person and given tight time and budgetary constraints did not want anything to be unclear so I did a several page addendum to his contract which he readily agreed to and which gave me comfort that we were talking about the same scope of work. The project was scheduled originally for one month. Darren had people on the job every day including sometimes at night and weekends to meet the schedule. I did three change orders which increased the timing by two weeks, which I felt was reasonable and appropriate and which Darren informed me about at the time of the change orders. Some contractors try to pad the change order prices but Darren did not take advantage of me and was fair with them. I had tried very hard to get everything in the original contract because of my fear of change orders but they are just a reality in most large construction contracts so I am glad Darren was so fair. As relates to the original scope of work, Darren did not once say something was more complicated than anticipated or out of scope and ask for more money. I have had this problem with some contractors in the past and was pleased I did not have it with Darren. I am very quality conscious and found that the end result was terrific; I was holding open houses for rental of the place on weekends and several neighbors came in and asked for referrals to Darren since they were so impressed with the work completed that they were considering similar changes in their places. There were some instances where the initial work did not meet my high standards but Darren always did whatever changes were needed. We met in person every week at the jobsite where I would give him my comprehensive list of items of discussion. I found this was helpful to make sure we were on the same page and that I was not holding him up (e.g. by not having purchased certain materials as quick as needed, or making decisions as quick as needed) and that he was not holding me up (e.g. not having demolished certain things quickly enough so my wiring contractor could do his work). We also communicated virtually every day be text and email; sometimes many times each day. Darren is very prompt and accessible in this manner which facilitated the rapid progress that was needed. This quick communication was extremely important to me and something I noticed in the bidding process as compared to certain other contractors. Darren also worked well with certain contractors I hired directly (e.g. I had a data/communications hub installed and re-wired the entire house for internet, cable TV and phone which resulted in about 60 holes throughout the house which Darren had to fix, etc.). Darren also cheerfully did a few little items along the way to complete the project and did not charge me for them. It was very important to me that Darren was licensed and had workman's compensation insurance. I found that many of the contractors I talked to claimed they had no employees and had no need for workman's compensation insurance because there were no employees but it was obvious that was not accurate since they did not hire licensed subs for every single task and it was obvious that the owner was not doing every bit of work. I found the on-site person Charlie easy to deal with as well as the various specialist (tilework, drywall, countertop fabrication, cabinetry), who not only did a quality job but also offered some good suggestions along the way. All in all, I am very pleased with the work completed, the experience, and the price paid and would definitely like to hire and work with Darren and Seacliff Builders again in the future.
