Professional, professional, professional. These guys were awesome. I was very nervous about making such a huge decision for our house (which was my childhood home). They called me back right away, came out several times with different sorts of samples as I requested, and waited patiently for a few weeks while I went through my process to make a decision. I received follow-up calls from time to time but nothing pushy at all. Chuck also gave much needed advice. When I finally made my decision, we signed contracts and the workers were out within days. Crew was clean, quiet, and respectful. The whole thing was done well-within a week, and our roof is GORGEOUS! We had been experiencing problems before with roof leaks in several places, as our house has a badly added addition, and we're now enjoying rainy days with zero anxiety :) I cannot say enough about how reasonable and easy Chuck and his staff are to work with. No one could possibly ask for anything more!

Here are couple things happened to me: 1) I presented Angie's coupon after Chuck conducted an estimate... and he told me that the price he quoted was already the cheapest and will not accept the coupon. But if I insist on using the coupon then he would have to re-evaluate the estimate again with the coupon in mind. 2) I told him the installation will start after the HOA approves the color of the tiles, after two weeks of waiting for the HOA approval, Chuck called me and said he loaded the materials up on the truck and is coming over the next day. I told him the HOA committee has not approve the project yet and he has to wait. He replied that he would have to charge me for unloading the materials off the truck and he's losing money just waiting to start the project. He keep assuring me that he's has done numerous jobs in the community and there is no way the HOA will reject the color... Against my better judgement, I let he start the project... and guess what.. the HOA rejected the color. 3) The project took longer than it was originally quoted. Instead of sending more people to help finishing up the roof... the same two guys worked their butts off to try to finish the project. The reason I went with Hoyt was because I knew Brian Hoyt from before and knew his quality of work. The work was great. The two guys worked their butts off and was detailed about the work. When I talked to Brian about the HOA issue, Brian immediate took the responsibility and said if HOA wants me to replace the roof he will replace the roof and make it right. Chuck on the other hand... (He called right after I had talked to Brian) and told me that he could spray and "color" the roof to meet HOA's requirement. I ended up just communicate with Brian. Luckily the HOA decided not to pursue the issue. The two roofers that did the installation did an awesome job. I have no complaints about them.
Description of Work: First of all the work and installation was great. However the service/professionalism by Charles (Chuck) Woldhuis, V.P. General Manager, was horrible. To me, Chuck feels like a old car sales person trying to sale you the job in any way. You can google Hoyt roof review and find the review from "insidepages.com." You can see Chuck trying to pretend to be one of the customers leaving reviews for Hoyt. The other two reviews most likely is talking about Chuck.

I spoke with Charles on the phone Wed afternoon 11/11/13. After letting me know how wonderful he was because of the multiple insurances he carried he also told me that only one or two other contractors on Angie's list actually carry licenses with the manufactures so the warranty would extend to their work. After he finally listened to me about what I needed we set the appt for Thursday am at 7-730a. Right now it is 10a and still no call no show. I would not suggest this company to anyone and should have looked closer at the reviews online. His loss as we are looking to get a whole new roof. Awful customer service and my first disappoint in a company related to Angie?s list. Hopefully my last.

Unfortunately the phone number we had for this person was not correct. Possibly we handwritten it down wrong. I made three attempts to call and change the appointment date and time but only got a disconnected phone message. We are sorry the appointment was missed.you could have called back to our office to find out what happened. Sorry

We were referred to Hoyt by a family member. They had great service with their new roof and gutter installation a few years back, so I figured Hoyt would be a good match for us as well. We had an appointment scheduled with Chuck for a Saturday morning. He had to cancel because another job ran long. Not a problem. However, I waited several days to hear back on re-scheduling an appointment and didn't hear anything. I had to call the office for a new date. It was bit annoying, but not a deal breaker. Chuck finally made it to our house for an estimate. I'm sure Chuck is a nice person (I like to think the best of everyone), but I was put off by how formal Chuck was. He seemed stiff and didn't crack a smile. We asked several questions, but he didn't really provide specific answers. We were confused. He proceeded to come up with a quote, which was over our budget. After our consultation, we called another gutter company, met with its owner and booked our job. I was disappointed in our experience with Hoyt. But our family members who referred us still stand by Hoyt's work and service. In the future, they suggest asking for the owner (I believe his name is Brian) and to get a quote from instead of Chuck.

They came out. It has been more than a week. They claim they have mailed the quote twice. Funny I still have not received it. What goes. Either they don't need or want the business. So far I am not impressed. No one calls you back when you call the office. It takes several days for anyone to get back to you. Isn't there anyone in the office. I have left several messages--Very disappointing. I really need a roof put on and wanted a couple of estimates. I relied on Angie's List. Hoyt had an A. No negatives. So was excited to work with them. My experience has not been good. Maybe they should bring estimate to me personally.

After speaking to several roofing companies... A representative from Hoyt's Roofing contacted me to review the type of work required. Althought this was a relitively small job... He was friendly, honest and straight forward. This work would be a "Time and Material" job because it would required one of their roofing experts to examine and perform the work. I agreed. Hoyt's Roofer "Cuco" arrived as scheduled to review the area in question. [The roof that was in need of repair was a cut out section of the previous roof line to allow a patio roof connection.] The roof had water damage and dry-rot from expossed edges and improper flashing. Cuco, took measurements and pictures of roof section, so he would be prepared with the proper materials when the work was to be performed. We agreed on the time required and the day to perform the work (one week later). As schedule... Cuco arrived on time and went to work immediately. During the course of the repair, Cuco would update me with his progress or any questions. He was very knowledgeable and had great insight on how to make the finish product better. I can not praise Cuco work ethics enough....Extremely nice and knowledgeable. The work was performed professionally and at the time agreed upon... The finish product was better than I imagined. I would highly recommend Hoyt Roofing. They treated this small job as if it were a much large project. Side note: Hoyt Roofing was unaware that I am the Director of Marketing for ParexUSA (Building Products Manufacturer).

The were extremely professional and detailed in the entire process- which is a BIG PROCESS. They described every detail in completing the job and importance of each aspect of the roof replacement to insure meeting manufacturer and industry standards. Pricing was very competitive and these guys handle everything in-house- no sub-contracting. The rains are coming- stoked we have a NEW HOYT ROOF!! The work force on the job were excellent. Very talented staff and hard working group. Kept everything organized and clean at the end of each day. They were faced with some challenging roof details (skylights), etc. and handled it very well!

I called Hoyt Roofing three times at (714) 855-2319 - no answering machine twice and left a message once. It has been three days and no return phone call. I saw Hoyt roofers in the neighborhood and always try to support local businesses when possible. I tried to reach a live person but was unsuccessful. The summer is a very busy time for roofers but also a good time to gauge customer service over the next 5-10 years. A silver lining: the final product on the neighbors house looks great!

GETTING QUOTES: I called six roofing contractors that I deemed "the best" within a 30-mile radius of my home. There are countless roofers on Angie's List, so my first screening criteria was to exclude all roofers with less than an "A" rating or less than (25) reviews. At this point I still had around a dozen roofers to choose from, so, to narrow the list down to the six roofers I ultimately called, I had no choice but to "read the tea leaves" (i.e., read lots of reviews for each contractor) to get some sense for which contractors would likely deliver the best overall value in terms of quality, service, and price. Among the six roofers I called, Charles Woldhuis ("Chuck") of Hoyt Roofs promptly visited my house and provided a detailed explanation of the process and followed-up with a quote and proposal package far exceeding the other contractors I spoke with in terms of comprehensive explanation of work to be completed, what is/isn't included, and what I should expect in terms of the tangible end product and the intangible service and risk-mitigation aspects of the job. This is not to take away from the other contractors?they were all commendable in their professionalism and proposals as well (They are top Angie's List contractors after all), but, simply, Chuck and Hoyt Roofing are in an entirely different league from most others (Wow?I really do sound like a commercial here, but seriously there really was almost no comparison). In terms of price, Chuck's proposal was above average among the six but was not the most expensive. After closely scrutinizing the detail of Chuck's proposal, it was clear that not only would his roof be superior to the others in terms of longevity, fit, and finish, but also that the overall value delivered would be superior relative to the price offered. I doubt he will ever be the lowest price bidder on any job, but likely will provide the highest value per dollar. In short, you'll get what you've paid for??and maybe a little more. DAY ONE: The crew (a Hoyt Roofing crew, not a subcontracted "tear-off" crew as many roofers use) arrived exactly when promised with two large dump trucks and a dump trailer to tear off my existing roof and haul it away. I didn't count but estimate there were around ten crewmen. They covered my pool with plastic and laid down tarps around my entire house, and moved all pottery and patio furniture to ensure no accidental damage. Once they began tearing off the old concrete tile roof, the crew proceeded at a feverish pace and had the entire roof stripped down to bare wood in just a couple of hours. They thoroughly cleaned-up the premises and left. Oh one important note: I work from home so was on the job site for the entire project?probably a home improvement contractor's worst nightmare?LOL. A couple of hours later, the installation crew (Sebastian, Cesar, and Jorge) arrived and began identifying all the rotten plywood sheeting, fascia, shiplap, and rafters that needed to be replaced. I knew it was going to be bad, but to my horror it was a lot worse than I ever imagined. On a more positive note, however, the lead foreman, Sebastian, took me around to show me all the problem areas so that I could decide which panels and boards to replace (There of course were some areas that were so bad as to not be an option, but other areas were still structurally sound enough to leave in place if I so chose). With the extensive amount of wood rot, the crew worked until dusk to get everything ready for the city inspector scheduled for the next day. As with the first crew, they thoroughly clean-up everything before leaving for the day. DAY TWO & THREE: The crew arrived promptly at 7:30am each day and worked until around 6:00pm repairing the extensive amount of wood rot in my roof structure. These guys never stop moving and it is clear each knows exactly what to do?Chuck's sales pitch about the high proportion of foreman on each job is definately not just lip service. Each and every workman was highly efficient and very detailed. Probably to some annoyance for the crew, I did quite a bit of hovering as the job proceeded and went up on my roof to thoroughly review each aspect of the job daily while the crew ate lunch and after they left for the day. I was pleasantly surprised by the attention to detail I found. DAY FOUR: Alright, so now we're getting to the good stuff. After 2-1/2 days of replacing rotten wood, today is the day the roof gets laid. After all the positive comments from the prior days, as you would expect everything continued to run very smoothly. As I write this though, I'm thinking there must be something critical to comment on and quite frankly, if I can't come up with at least one item, then I'm probably just not paying close enough attention. I'll keep my eyes peeled (Even the best can't be perfect after all), but for now all I have to complain about is that it would sure be nice if someone could invent a way to nail a roof on without all the noise, although I suppose that isn't much of an issue for those who work outside the home. For now though, everything is going perfectly. DAY FIVE: Today is Saturday the 20th of April and the crew arrived as usual at 7:30am to begin work. Most of the roof had been nailed on yesterday, so today will be short and encompass primarily clean-up and lots of details like painting all the metal flashing and vents, patching stucco around rafter replacements, and some final flashing work. All work and final clean-up was completed around noon. The roof looks absolutely fantastic and the crew left the grounds as tidy as they found them. Best of all, I was able to see the quality of work that was put into the supporting structure of the roof that can't be seen after the roof is complete, so I have no doubt that this is the last roof this house will ever need in my lifetime. SUMMARY: The entire project went without a hitch and fully to my complete satisfaction. I almost never take the time to write reviews and am even less likely to endorse a contractor simply because there are few that ultimately meet my standards to do so. I've obviously made a well deserved exception in this case and will be giving my unqualified recommendation of Hoyt Roofs to family, friends, and anyone else that asks for a referral. Now, in the spirit of providing a balanced review, I do have one genuinely critical comment to include. Although debris were always maintained in a neatly stacked pile in my driveway, it would be nice if debris were simply removed each day instead. Fortunately, this was not much of an issue for me since my driveway is three cars wide and there's no shortage of street parking available, but it could be an issue for some. The lack of a dumpster or more frequent pickup by Chuck's debris truck is surely just a cost control measure and I'm sure Chuck would happily ensure removal of all debris daily if I told him it is important, but just thought I'd mention this so you can ask to have it done if it makes a difference for you. One other minor issue: Although everything was thoroughly cleaned-up by the crew before they left, I had to put my patio furniture back in it's original location. The installation crew did not initially move everything out of the way (the tear-off crew did that) so they didn't have a way to know where everything should go, but it would not be too hard to implement a process at little or no cost to eliminate this gap (e.g., a couple of quick snapshots with a smartphone by the leader of the tear-off crew, who could then in a matter of seconds send the photos to the installation crew for reference on the final day would eliminate this issue). Again this is a relatively trivial issue, but I thought it worth mentioning. Putting my patio furniture back in its original location only took me about two minutes, but it might have been a real issue if I were a few decades older. Beyond that all I have to say is......Great Job and Thank You Hoyt Roofs!
Description of Work: Complete removal of a lightweight concrete tile roof. Replace roughly 250' of rotted shiplap, eighteen sheets of rotted 1/2" plywood sheeting, roughly 175' of rotted 2x8 fascia, roughly 130' of rotted 1x4 trim, and five rotted rafter tails. Install new roof consisting of DiamondDeck synthetic underlayment, Presidential TL shakes, eight O'Hagin low-profile attic vents, and all new metal flashing throughout. You read that right...I removed a concrete tile roof and I estimate it was only about fifteen years old. It was apparently never installed correctly and was doing little to protect my home from water damage, as evidenced by the extent of woodrot replacement work noted above. I bought my home just a few years ago and thought a tile roof meant I would never need to spend a dime on the roof. Well, as edge tiles started to fall off the edge of my roof earlier this year, I went up to investigate and found that they were falling off because the wood was so rotten that there was nothing solid for the nails to hold onto. ...a good example of why selection of good roof installer is even more important than the selection of roof material.

We got estimates from 2 other companies but we went with Hoyt's because their estimate was a lot less. They came on Wednesday and Thursday and they were gone by Friday. We liked the fast response. The representative, his name is mark, was real attentive, polite and very nice. When we called them, he responded back. At the beginning, we put in the estimate and the contact and everything, we did not hear from them for about a week and we wondered why so I called right away and they responded right away and they told me that what they do is, because they have about maybe 20 to 25 jobs, what they do is every week, they go and pick eight of them because all they can do is eight a week and they will call those people. He said that my name was on the list and so I will probably be called in about a week or two. So I went out of town for two weeks, my husband has still hadn't heard from them so he called Mark and Mark called him right away and called back and told him you are already on the list and we are going to be called on Monday. Sure enough, they called us on Monday. They did a very good job. We were very happy with them. As a matter of fact, we saw two things when they finished and my husband showed them and they went up there and they corrected it so that it was how we wanted it. They were very attentive and they cleaned up everything very good. We were very confident with their job.

I received 3 quotes from roofing companies on Angies List. Hoyt Roofs was one of them and I also knew 2 people personally that used them (good references). Hoyt Roofs were very professional and kept touch though out the entire process. The foreman/salesman answered all my questions, was very knowledgeable and returned calls promptly. They also had a showroom to visit and look at different roofing products. Their price was the lowest of the 3 bids and they did excellent work. Win win!

The general manager that did the quote was very knowledgeable and gave lots of information. He came across a little strong in the beginning but all of the information that they included in the packet was more thorough than any of the other roofing companies had given me. The overall work on the roof looks really good. Some of the wood trim work, under the roof along the edge between the fascia and flashing, looks a little amateurish. There is a part where a piece was broken off (lenthwise), however it was still installed. There's another area where there's a sizeable gap between the 2 pieces of trim. Since these imperfections are not readily noticeable, I'm not so displeased by the overall quality of their work.

I called yesterday for someone to come repair a skylight and to give me an estimate on roof replacement. I was told that "Chuck would call me back at the end of the day which he did not. I just received a call at 7:30 this morning. Every word out of "Chuck's" mouth was negative. "I'm not gonna make an money on this deal and I'll have to make two trips so I'm doin you a favor." "Your insurance won't pay for this because skylight replacement is "just maintenance" and not cause by high winds and heavy rain (which is what occurred). "It's like replacing your carpet when it's worn out. Your insurance wouldn't pay for THAT!" (lots of sarcasm). I live in an older mobile home which I stated when I called yesterday. This company may do great work if the job is a big one, but they clearly don't want the little jobs. They didn't get this one.

We called for an estimate and Chuck said that they like to meet at the house to discuss their practices. He spoke to us for an hour and was very upfront and professional. His price was in the middle of the 4 estimates we got. We called him Monday morning to say that we wanted to go with Hoyt. That day he dropped off samples so that we could choose the color. We let him know Wednesday morning which color we wanted to go with, and they started the job on Friday. They had 15 people or so there and tore off the roof in just a few hours. They put any wood they found with termites/dry rot/damage on the driveway so that we could inspect and measure it. The roof was sheeted by the end of the day, and by Tuesday all the shingles and flashings were on! The roof looks great and the entire outside of the house was cleaned thoroughly. Hoyt was very fast, very responsive, and they answered all our questions. Highly recommended.

They did an excellent job. I was very pleased with their job. They actually told me about some other things that I actually needed to have done. They put in a new gutter for me because the one which I had was saggy one. They put the gutter at a reasonably low price. They did a very clean job. They put in a big piece of wood in the front. He explained the work to me. Instead, of patching the broken wood, they replaced the entire part. I thought they did an excellent job. They did only the work that needed to be done. They work was tidy and clean. I will absolutely call them again if I have any problem. I didn't feel intimidated when they were working. The work they did was in the house, which I had given for rent. My tenant had gone out when I got this job done. When they came back they were amazed to see the work. They did the work really rapidly, within a day or two. We are very pleased with what they did. They kept their appointments on time. They were here when they said they would be there and did what they said they would do and even did a little extra. The workers were polite and efficient. I was charged a fair price. It wasn't cheap, but I didn't feel that I was overcharged at all.

These guys were a referral - did work for a friend. I tried to get these guys to call me for two weeks. Spoke to a rep on the phone, said they'd call me. Waited 4-5 days and called again. Spoke to someone, said they would call me back. Few days go by. Saw their number on my caller id, no message. Called again was told that they talked to me (really?) and that someone would call me. Two weeks and no conversation.....moving on to another company.
Description of Work: I tried to reach them for a quote.
