Max was very professional. Gave my mom and dad options and explained to us why we needed to do repairs on our unit but at no time were we pressured to make any sudden decisions. All in all A great company.

It was excellent. Chris Shay was excellent. He fully explained, was courteous and polite. He could see and understood why I had a previous bad experience with the install and cleaned up the mess that wasn't his that had previously left behind plus fixed other issues. He shared the pictures with his manager who also agreed that it was negative experience. He found that my account had fallen in the cracks and rectified the service that had been neglected. It was above and beyond my expectations. I look forward to him coming again to check up on the unit in 6 months. He also suggested and then installed an air cleaner which should help me with my health issues. All was accomplished today instead of being scheduled at a later date. I was very happy with him as he provided excellent service.

He came in and went straight to the thermostat. He turned it on and started checking everything. He used a camera and looked at the coils. He said they were dirty, and that they needed to be cleaned. He said it would cost $1000 to clean 2 coils. Or he could use a system that cleans the coils, and that would be a monthly payment. He also said that my 2006 system was outdated, and suggested getting a new system.I told him I would talk to his manager. I looked on line and found out how to check the coils, only to discover they were completely clean.

This is my personal experience. I purchased an AC unit from Home Comfort USA (HCUSA) on 2/18/17. It's now 4/13/17 & the job isn't finished. Workers ripped existing ductwork, cracked the ceiling in hallway, & put caulking on my white walls. I had to clean up, no mat was placed on the floor prior to any work being done. Entrance to the attic is white. Black finger prints all over attic entrance. I took a day off from work so they could send men to fix ripped ductwork & paint. Ductwork was fixed. Painter was there to patch up the crack & paint. Painter made the crack worse by inserting approx. 15-20 drywall screws into the ceiling. Painter realized he wasn't able to create support between drywall & wood beams, he took all the screws out & patched up the crack he made wider. I watched him do it & he lied by stating he had created support. Painter said he would come back to paint the next day & never showed up. HCUSA credited me $25 to purchase paint so I could do it myself. Contract states they are to place a cover around the AC that is mounted on the roof. City of Anaheim requires it. HCUSA stated they would put up a lattice. I verified w/ the City building dept. & a lattice is NOT permitted. HCUSA rep stated they put up lattices all the time. HCUSA is based in Anaheim, & they DO NOT know the regulations in their own area. HCUSA stated they are awaiting an email from the "city engineer" w/ size specifications & regulations for AC cover. It's been 3 weeks. I spoke w/ City of Anaheim & they stated there are no engineers in the Building Dept. HCUSA came out to my house twice for measurements & they keep telling me lies that they are waiting for an email w/ size specifications from the City of Anaheim. HCUSA has the measurements of all AC unit sold & installed. A job that required 24 hour installation has turned out to be 2 months long. My house is on the market & HCUSA is interfering w/ the sale of my house, due to incompetency & possible discrimination against a woman demanding her rights as a consumer.

The estimate was free. I went to Costco and they had a promotional tuneup service. I bought that. When they came home, he saw the system and said,"Oh, you have to replace it." They work with Costco. It was working fine until the day before and all of a sudden they say you're not supposed to use it. They could have said, "Okay, your system is old. If you have enough budget, you can replace it and we can give you the quote for the new system." I wasn't expecting, "Oh your system is old, so you're not supposed to use it and we have to shut it off." The thing is, when you're buying something, you have to tell the customer, "This is the system we're going to give you, this has this much capacity," and all that stuff. The way they started, they came out with all the prices from $12,000 up to $30,000. I don't think an A/C costs $30,000. They should have told me, "Okay, these are the systems available, this one costs this much, this one costs this much, this one saves this much." They should have started from there, instead of going through the prices.

When they came, the gentleman that was here was professional and very helpful and informative. Did his job, and did it very quickly without any problems. My reason for the B had to do with there was some stuff that going on in terms of what they had promised and didn't follow through on, but I got that kind of straightened up after talking with them, but it just seemed like a hassle.

On Thu, Aug 4, 2016, my 13-year-old Rheem, builder's grade HVAC system stopped working. Since I had experienced good service with Home Comfort (formerly American Comfort) over the last several years (Home Comfort did not sell me my old system; I purchased it from an independent contractor), I called to schedule an appointment regarding different options Home Comfort could offer me. On Sat, Aug 6, I selected an upgraded, high-end, Lennox resort-grade system and emphasized that I wanted an auto-switch thermostat that I had been used to on my previous system (automatically switches between AC and heat as needed). The installation was performed Mon, Aug 8, and took approximately 8.5 hours. When I asked the installers if I had an auto thermostat for the new system, they said yes. They removed the old system, insulated the walls of the furnace closet, and installed and rewired the new system. It all looked wonderful, quickly passed city inspection, worked very quietly, and cooled efficiently. Three months later, on Fri, Nov 18, when temperatures began dropping at night--and the day before I was leaving for a 2-week vacation out of state--I realized that I had a manual thermostat and had to adjust the thermostat to heat. Unfortunately, I also discovered that the heat wasn't working. I double-checked the thermostat and the Lennox manuals to ensure I hadn't overlooked any steps. On Sat, Nov 19, I called for service, but due to short-handed availability of technicians (Customer Service (CS) representative said a couple of technicians had called in sick), they couldn't send anyone until Monday. I was concerned because I had family members (adult and child) in the house while I was gone on vacation. Since I would be on vacation on the day of service, I arranged for someone to be at the house during the window of time provided by the CS representative (2-4 pm because CS rep told me that the technician did not have a heavy schedule that afternoon). On Monday afternoon, the person waiting at my home texted me at 4:15 pm and said no technician had showed up, and I asked that person to call the CS phone number I texted. He did and informed me that the new ETA was 5 pm and that the CS rep told him that the standard service window of time was 1 pm-5 pm. Five pm came and went, and the new ETA from CS was 6 pm. The person canceled the service because he had to leave. My adult family member at home told me when I called to wait to schedule service until I came back from vacation because it was too stressful and unreliable to schedule service. While on vacation, I purchased an auto thermostat at Costco that was the same brand (Honeywell) as the one that Home Comfort installed (I didn't want to fight the issue about an auto thermostat and just wanted it done). My family members used the fireplace and blankets to keep warm at night. I called CS several days (Wednesday) before I returned from vacation (Saturday) to ensure a technician would come first thing Monday morning, Dec 5, and to let them know that I also wanted the technician to replace the thermostat with the one I purchased. The CS rep provided a window of time between 8-10 am. On Dec 5, about 9:30 am, a CS rep called me to let me know that the technician would be there closer to 10 am. He showed up about 10:30 am. It took him about two hours to check everything, rewire the system (it had been mis-wired), and test everything (both heat and cooling). He also had to call the Honeywell CS (15 minutes on Hold) to walk him through the system programming because the technician said it didn't go according to instructions in the manual. Happily, Home Comfort did not charge me a dime for service because it was included under the warranty. The cost in this review was the amount I paid in August for the system.

It was a nightmare to come home and find my front door wide open and not even shut with no one around. Some nails and building materials left for me to find by stepping on them. They threw away the towel that I put under the drop down attic stairwell to protect the hard wood floor. They threw away my decorative vent covers and new thermostat to install their cheap looking ones (they did reimburse me for the vent covers after I complained and tried to get them reinstalled) . The drywall was awful with many cracks which had to be redone twice and they didn't even cover up the original holes/vents as promised initially. When I tried to get a hold of the salesperson, he claimed he was sick for 3 days but couldn't even bother to have himself or anyone else from his company call to tell me that so I felt ignored. He has lost all credibility as well as things he promised did not happen. One of the other workmen, said that he would remove the wooden vent braces when they took out the old system but they are still there. The a/c unit was now on my back patio instead of my the back door area where salesman had said it would be fine. Difficult to get final testing reports from them and city sign offs on permits. The whole project was supposed to take only 3 days which then was extended to a week and then it was a month to get it all straightened out and good drywall quality. NOW they say there are fees for HERO so total bill is $3000 more which initially was all inclusive of all fees, etc. I called the HERO people and they said not to sign off until the balance was correct. The only good part was that they did work without me having to be there but after all the snafus, I think it would be best to supervise them. Leslie, the coordinator was appalled, seemed sincerely caring and did everything in her power to get it set right. The unit is working and the house is comfortable but i don't know if it was worth all the stress and headache that clearly isn't over. I have asked to speak to Mr. Ken Starr the owner but they are reluctant to give me any information to contact him... even though the salesperson said he could be contacted. I am still waiting to get this all resolved and most likely will be after the new years now as it is the holiday season.
Description of Work: Threw away my decorative vent covers, left building materials underfoot (nails, etc), did lousy drywall job, left house wide open and unlocked while I was away, threw boxes in the attic in a pile instead of telling me to move them as they were going to do the insulation but didn't communicate when it was happening so I was uninformed as I would have cancelled it because of lousy first installation, didn't do what was originally agreed upon. The new Mylar venting has rips in it with insulation sticking out.

Their technician Eddie was great (very knowledgeable, courteous, and simply just a nice guy). I was extremely impressed at how through and comprehensive their inspection and tuneup was. I've had it done by other companies as well and none of them were nearly as complete even though they charged more. I got a five page report that covered just about everything under the sun on my system. As an engineer, I appreciated this. I was also impressed that there was no hard sell to up-charge me on anything. Highly recommended!

This company is one of those scammers that takes advantage of people who do not know enough about how their appliances work. They quickly try to sell worthless service contracts and overpriced parts so I suspect that the "technicians" work on commission. STAY AWAY!!! You have been warned. Here is my experience with them . . . My wife called them after seeing five star reviews on Yelp because I was too busy to check out why our furnace was not working. The technician goes up to check it out for 10-15 minutes. He comes back to sell my wife a 1-3 year service contract. He also said the "Flame Safety System" was heavily corroded, the "High Volltage Regulator" was malfunctioning and the "Flame Ignition System" needed replacing. What a SHAM! He wanted $440 to fix our unit! I questioned the "Technician" Colin, about what a High Voltage Regulator was. He said it controlled high voltages to the motor. I then asked if he meant the capacitor and he sheepishlly said "yes" as I Iooked him direct in the eye. I asked him what the "Flame Ignition System" was. He could not say. I asked if it consisted of many parts or one unit and he could not answer. I sent him away without paying for the repairs he claimed were essential, but was charged $69 for the visit. I went up to check the unit myself and quickly diagnosed that the only issue with our unit was a failed motor start capacitor )($2.36 online at Home Depot or $8 at the local Grainger outlet). Fixing that only involves popping out the capacitor and popping in the new one. That fixed it in a snap. BTW, we only use our furnace about five days a year and when Colin told us it was twelve years only and completely worn out, I challenged him with this fact, but he was persistent with trying to sell us a bogus service contract for $150/year! Frankly, there is nothing to service on a furnace and it was totally clean and in pristine condition upon my inspection. Also, keep in mind that SDG&E will come out to check your furnace for FREE. Stay away from these scammers.

Ken came out an gave us an estimate. We knew immediately we would go with his service based on the quality of the brand Lennox and the price. The price was way less than the other 2 companies that we had called to give us a quote. Ken was a super nice guy and went the "extra mile" in every way. The crane on time and not noisy or an eye sore the morning of the installation. I definitely will be telling others about him.

With one call to Ken Starr Heating & A/C, Ken set up both an inspection and installation appointment for the new furnace. We worked our appointments around the scheduled rains, and Ken was even able to inspect earlier than the scheduled appointment when my schedule opened up. He clearly explained the work to be performed, including estimated completion time, and potential additional costs if encountered. He quoted an estimated cost of $1700. His office promptly faxed me a printed work order estimate the following morning, and I pre-paid with a credit card. Ken's crew arrived as scheduled two days later and performed the removal, and Ken arrived with the new furnace and conducted the install with his team. After answering questions and packing up, they finished several hours ahead of schedule. The heater runs perfectly and we are very satisfied with the job. There was no additional cost - we paid exactly as quoted. The only small detail was minor damage to the painted wood trim around the attic opening, which I anticipated. Overall, Ken Starr did a fantastic job.
Description of Work: As a referral from the recall coordinator, Ken Starr inspected and conducted a replacement of our home attic mounted furnace unit. The recall coordinator provided the new furnace at no charge, with professional installation handled and paid by homeowner.

My Elderly parents heating unit went out the weekend before christmas. Starr was the only contractor I could find open on saturday. I called in morning and was told they would have a tech out in 1 1/2 hrs. Phone tag went on all day until tech showed at 6pm saying they were busy and short handed because of holiday. Well the furnace was shot and there wasnt anything that could be done that evening. He loaned us a space heater until new unit could be installed on monday, which it was, and that was it, no follow up call or visit. They knew we wanted AC but they havent been in touch since Saturday December 20th and their installers on the 22nd. We have since added AC to the house but didnt contact them because of their lack of customer service and follow up. In talking to other Heating and AC contractors I found Starr was $500 to $800 higher than need be for a similar furnace. It has left me feelng that they took advantage of our situation.

They arrived when they said they would and when they checked the furnace in the attic they found one of the ducts in the attic was not hooked up properly and they fixed it without charging more. Very polite and informative. The owner set the appointment and gave me his cell in case I needed anything.
Description of Work: We had our A/C tuned up before summer. They came out and did some rountine maintenance and only charged $85.
