They were here on time. I believe that there were 5 men. They laid paper on the carpets and floors; covered many surfaces with plastic to prevent dust from collecting on our things. (I have a respiratory condition and am on oxygen). I did not notice any dust to interfere with my breathing. After going through the junk with rakes, they vacuumed the contents of the attic with an industrial vacuum with a hepa filter. The vacuum was outside with a long tube going to the attic. Other than scaring one of my cats, they did a super job. They were polite...not only with me, but with each other too.
Description of Work: Thoroughly cleaned and disinfected our attic, including removal of old insulation and other junk. They installed new insulation.

The ads look great, and Quincy, the rep who did initial inspection and quote is nice, helpful and returns calls. The areas that have been finished are looking good, but ...... I also have trouble reaching their office by phone. Let me say, the crew have all been very polite. It seems to be a management issue. Day 1. The crew came out. A couple of guys from Riverside were on time and the Anaheim crew were late. They began, pulled old insulation out, checked with me on a couple of items, and continued to vacuum rat debris and remove insulation. They said they would return with the 'big vacuum'. Day 2. Same as before, the Riverside guys were on time the Anaheim crew was late. Still vacuuming rat debris and removing insulation. Half the crew left to finish another job. They did not bring the big vacuum. Little vacuum fell through my ceiling. Riverside guys quit. I had allowed 4 days to finish the job before my schedule closed. I only have weekends available now. 16 DAYS later, hottest days of the year, 3/4 of the home has no insulation and the job is not finished. Ceiling is still not repaired. Insulation still not completely removed. Rat feces still in the attic, even in the areas where new insulation is being installed, and my Air Conditioner is running A LOT. This may still resolve well, but it has not been an easy or painless process, and I'm really concerned about my upcoming utility bill, especially with the new rates from SDGE. I'm expecting a bill of nearly one thousand dollars. Attic Guys bid was for 2500sf @ 5600.00.
Description of Work: Attic Guys was supposed to completely remove the insulation, vacuum the rat debris and trash and replace insulation. They bailed on the job, and have not returned or scheduled a return date.

It isn't easy to find a business that will clean out an attic space without also providing extermination services. I was happy to discover Attic Guys on Angie's List. My first contact was with Quentin who arrived promptly to assess the damage. Quentin was pleasant to work with. I set a time for the crew to come and clean out the attic space. They arrived promptly at the designated time. My interaction with all members of the team, including Quentin, Lance, Donta, Yannick and O.G. went extremely well. I think there was one additional person whose name I didn't get. They are all very competent in their areas of expertise., easy to have in the house, respectful, thorough and quite impressive. They protected my wood floors by laying a paper path from the front door to the work area. They put up plastic to contain the working area -- access to the attic is a trap door in the hall ceiling. I was impressed with the extent they went to in order for my property to be protected and to keep the dust and feces from blowing through the house. Everything was done very professionally. The job took approximately nine hours. Lance even took photos to show me the damage. They even walked around the house and went on the room to close up with screening, any places where the animals, a possum and rodents entered. After the job was done, I felt very secure in the fact that we wouldn't have that contamination coming through the ducts into the house anymore, and that the blocking the outside entrances assured me that it was unlikely the problem would repeat itself. Before leaving, they cleaned up thoroughty -- the house and yard were returned to their original condition. Although the job appeared expensive to me, I recommend Attic Guys without reservation. I was completely satisfied with the work completed.
Description of Work: Cleaned attic of animal feces. Replaced damaged insulation and closed any entrances to the attic with wire screening. Damage done by possum and rodents was extensive...

Overall rating is an A- Crew rating is A+ Had the Attic Guys out the other day to remove all my insulation, remove rodent feces, rodent proof the house and install new installation. The crew was late due to a blown tire on the freeway. I don't fault them at all and firmly believe the owner/s should be maintaining their vehicles so that their crew not only arrives on time, but more importantly is safe on the highway. That said, the crew arrived on the hottest day this year. They worked very hard to clean out our attic. I am very picky and when paying this kind of money, I believe it is justified. They gave me the opportunity to approve of the job once they were done. I climbed in the attic and pointed out a few areas I wanted cleaned more thoroughly. They cleaned these areas without hesitation. I checked the attic again and was not yet satisfied. They continued to work in a terribly hot conditions. When they were finished I was very happy that the attic was completely clean! I was told they found three dead rodents under the insulation and I saw enough feces to make me cringe. They installed the new batt insulation and I am very happy with the whole job. Very big shout out and thank you to Lenell, Odie, Cliff, Max, Yannick and Aurelio. These guys seriously busted their butts in some terrible conditions. These guys were all very professional and seemed to care about the quality of the work. A few small details that were missed that could have earned the company an A+ from me. 1) I requested pictures be taken of the attic and the camera was forgotten forcing me to take my own pictures. Attempts were made with a cell phone camera but they did not come out very good. 2) I had no problems allowing the crew to use the bathroom in our home but as a suggestion, perhaps the company should invest in a mobile restroom in the event a homeowner doesn't wish the bathroom to get used. Overall, the crew that showed up were awesome and they showed an amazing work ethic. Thanks guys!

The Attic Guys were on time, well staffed, professional, polite and very clean. If we hadn't been home, we'd have never known they were at our house. The amount of debris they removed was surprising and the results are excellent. The before and after pictures are amazing. We'd definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Our house was built in 1991 and has had multiple owners. The attic insulation was a mess due to duct work replacement, Direct TV installation and removal, termite repairs, a new furnace/AC and 20 plus years of dust, etc.

I called for an appointment and discussed with the agent that I worked in LA, which is a commute to my home, so I needed an early or late afternoon appointment. He lives in Orange County, so we decided upon a late afternoon appointment with the understanding of driving time flexibility. I left my job early and cancelled a tutoring assignment to meet with the agent. When I arrived home earlier than the scheduled appointment there was a quote on the door. I called and left a voice message, and the return voice message was that there was a personal matter that had to be attended to. My complaint is: 1) Why didn't he call to advise me of the change in schedule, since he had the time to come up to the house earlier. I didn't need to take off early from work or cancel my tutoring assignment had I known he was cancelling the appointment. This cost me income. 2) Why did I have to make an appointment for a quote that didn't apparently require he go up into my attic, since the quote was based solely on the information I had shared when first making the appointment.

On the first visit, one guy came out take a look and gave an estimate. He was friendly, professional, and answered all my questions. On the second visit, a team of five guys came to remove all the insulation, clean out the attic of rat droppings, and place new installation. Those guys worked really hard and were very professional. I know it took a lot longer than expected (they initially said they were hoping to be done in the early to mid afternoon but were there till 6:30 pm, after dark) and they were clearly exhausted. I appreciated their effort and their professionalism throughout. The attic looked great. I noticed the next morning when there was daylight that one of the recessed lights in a bedroom below had been partially knocked down and the surrounding ceiling had some minor damage. When I called, the company was nice about it and offered to come fix it. On the third visit, a painter came and patched up the ceiling. He said he'd have to come back after it dried to texture the patched up area (to match the texture of the rest of the ceiling) and paint the patched and surrounding area. He stated that he would be the one coming back for the next appointment. On the fourth visit , a different painter showed up and textured the patched up area, but stated that he'd have to paint the whole ceiling to make it match right. He said we'd have to make another appointment for that. He said that he (the second painter) would be the one coming back to paint the ceiling. On the fifth appointment, no one showed up. I called the company after the appointment window, and they said they made a mistake, and both painters were sent to San Diego for a different job. They got some manager or supervisor on the line apologizing. We rescheduled another appointment. I asked that next time, perhaps they could call a day in advance to confirm the appointment (like they had done for the second visit when they did the main job), as this would help prevent this from happening again. He agreed they would. They never did call to confirm any subsequent appointments. On the sixth appointment, I got a call during the appointment window that the painter's wife had gone into labor, and we'd have to reschedule. On the seventh appointment, the first painter showed up, and said he would just paint the area that he patched. I objected, saying that 3 appointments ago, the second painter said that he'd have to paint the whole ceiling (which is why we rescheduled again at the time). The first painter insisted that he wouldn't have to. I mentioned that I wanted to be sure that it was done right during this visit, since I didn't want to schedule an 8th appointment. While he was getting the paint from Home Depot, he called the office, and they approved him to paint the whole ceiling. All said and done, the patched up area looks fine, but the paint over the entire ceiling is not uniform. Long after it dried I can see paint lines over the ceiling in several areas where the paint is thicker than others. I was also a little irked that he painted around ceiling fixtures (instead of pulling them down to paint under them, like past painters I've worked with have done). When I mentioned that to him, he insisted that this is how it's done. Frankly, I am tired of having this company come out, so I decided that I don't care enough to complain to the company and schedule another visit. Seven appointments (the one where the painter's wife went into labor is very understandable, so we could could say six appointments...) was already a lot of wasted time for me. Overall, the price was very fair for what was planned. The quality of the attic job seems excellent, but the ceiling repair/paint job is not good, so I averaged it to a B. I feel I can only give a C for punctuality, since a missed appointment due to a scheduling error is pretty bad. For professionalism I average it a B. The initial guys were very good, but the first painter was marginal. He never introduced himself until I asked who he and his assistant were. Also, both he and the second painter said during their respective visits that they would be the ones returning. Since the other painter was always the one returning on subsequent visits, one had no idea what the other was planning and they were obviously not communicating. This led to some frustration on my part. I rate the professionalism down also because they did not call to confirm appointments a day in advance even after they agreed to.
Description of Work: Cleaned out old insulation in the attic and removed rat droppings. Sprayed disinfectant throughout attic. Closed 2 holes that rats could get into the attic through. Laid new insulation throughout the attic. Since they damaged the ceiling, they had to come back and patch and paint the ceiling.

Everything went very well. appreciated the professionalism of the staff. the workers were professional, i.e. working well together, no foul language or goofing around, focused on getting job done. the estimator Teri professional and customer oriented. Felt very comfortable w/ him. No hard sell whatsoever. The bay area location is newer. There was some a small problem regarding communication w/ a staff member there. Once contact was made w/ Teri-estimator and Angela-office mgr? everything got going. The problem was rectified by Teri and Angie, I believe is her name. I got the recommendation from a neighbor that researched them and told me they have the highest rating. They guarantee their work and the neighbors called them back to fix something and they did well there. So this is a good Co. to deal with.
Description of Work: Teri (very good service) came out to inspect and give an estimate. Gave me two estimates one for necessary work and other for going above and beyond. Explained what was going on in attic and thoroughly inspected for any rodent enter/exit points. workers returned. put down plastic. Vacuumed attic of rodent droppings. removed top layer of insulation in various areas. sprayed disinfection throughout attic. found an entry point and closed that up. took pics of the attic.

We hired Attic Guys to clean out attic spaces and crawl space under 70+ year old house and replace with energy efficient insulation. We had estimates from 2 other companies. Jaesen came out to give us an estimate. He definetly knew what he was talking about, and answered all my questions regarding the job. It was important that they were licensed contractors since they were installing insulation. The estimate I received was comprehensive and competitive. We were able to schedule the work for the following week. The team that came out headed by Lenell, was friendly and very professional. The attic had blow in insulation, and was completely cleaned out of all material by the end of the day. The team sealed off the spaces being worked on, so nothing could become airborn. They laid plastic down on all traffic areas, and carefully protected all wall areas as well. The crawl space under the house was completely cleaned out of all rodent droppings, raked and disinfected. The team checked for all possible entries for rodents and sealed anything that looked suspect. New 4-30 insulation was installed in the attic, and traps were set to ensure all rodents were sealed out. The company has a 2 year warranty, guaranteeing no more rodents. As I write this, Lenell is checking the attic space and basement, as we have seen evidence of rodents in both places. He is rechecking all all possible entry points and cleaning up any debris (including a dead rat in a trap). He suggested that rodents may have been trapped inside. So, we'll keep an eye on the spaces and see what happens. Traps have been reset, and areas have been disinfected again. I know I can count on the company to keep managing the areas until we are rodent free. Highly recommend.

We bought a new home only to discover there had been a rodent infestation in our attic that the home inspector missed. The insulation was also old and needed replacing. The pest management company we found quoted us $3,000 -$4,000 for sanitation/removal and replacement of the insulation. After an internet search I found Attic Guys. I spoke with Ron on the phone, described the issue and gave him a heads up that our attic was crawl space and about 800 sq ft. so the job may be difficult. He said that it wasn't hard for them , and he quoted me $2050 which is exactly what I paid at the end of the job. The team from Anaheim arrived on time and were courteous, polite and respectful to me and my home. The team had a good rapport with each other and did the work cheerfully despite the miserably wet and cold weather conditions of the day. The job was done within the time estimate provided and our place was left fresh, clean and SPOTLESS. They offered us a chance to investigate the attic at the end of the job to make sure we were satisfied and the difference was night and day. I would recommend all new homeowners (especially those who purchase older homes) to investigate their attics thoroughly. I initially requested this service because of the rodent waste, but once the Attic Guys went up there they told me that the insulation was not only old, but it was only R11 or R9. I had assumed that the insulation was already R30 and just worn! They helpfully advised that I get a rebate from my energy company for our R30 update, something which I didn't even know I could do. Now I have a cleaner AND more energy efficient home -PLUS I am aware that I can qualify for a rebate. WELL worth the money we paid, including tip.

I originally emailed the company the very night I realized that a rodent had been inside my garage. A very nice woman called me back the very next morning and told me what to expect and that she would have a sales rep call me. As I was refusing to go into the garage while it was still dirty, I wanted to get this done as fast as possible. My first conversation with the sales rep later that day went just fine. He gave me a ballpark figure and told me to call him directly when I was ready to move forward since I had my regular pest guys coming out to seal up any points of entry. I called him a few days later and we discussed the situation again. He then said he'd call me later in the day and didn't. I didn't worry about it too much, so I called him the following day and left a message. It was a Friday and I didn't hear from him. So I called him the following Monday and got nothing. I then called on Tuesday and found his voice mail filled. I then called the company's main line and I was going to ask them to give me another rep but the rep I'd been talking to was the one who picked up the phone. I'll admit, I didn't have the guts to tell him I wanted someone else and he also said that he was just waiting for another client to call him and he hoped to be able to get his guys in to clean my garage the following Monday. That was farther away then I wanted but I decided to just roll with it. He said he'd call me back within the hour to let me know. The hour came and went...then the entire day went and still no call. I tried calling him the next day and was rolled over to his now working voice mail. I tried calling later in the day and I was again rolled over to voice mail. At that point, I'd hit my wall and I went online and tracked down another company. They did the job within 24 hours and did a great job. I did get a return call from the sales rep. He called around 7 p.m., which seemed rather late in my opinion. He left a message and said he'd call back another time...he never did. But it didn't matter since I'd hired the new company. I waited a few days before I wrote this up to make sure my annoyance wasn't amplified by panic over rat feces in my garage and wanting it gone. But several days later, including a weekend, made me realize that my particular case was poorly handled. I understand people are busy but I was willing to pay a lot of money to get this done and the sales rep knew (from me telling him) that I was very freaked out by this and wanted the job done ASAP. So although I'm no longer angry because the job's been done to my satisfaction by another company, I am disappointed. I hate feeling like I'm being ignored.
Description of Work: I found that a rat had infiltrated my garage and used it is as his dining room and toilet. I use my garage for storage. Mostly books because I'm a writer and those books are for promotional purposes. So I needed this job done as quickly as possible. Especially since I had absolutely no desire to clean up rat feces, so I searched out a company that would do the clean-up for me. Important, I found out later, since you shouldn't just use a vacuum to suck up the feces yourself and things needs to be decontaminated by professionals. Unfortunately I never had a chance to use Attic Guy's services because the sales rep would promise to call me, then he didn't. When I tried to call him, I would get his voice mail. I finally got fed up and contacted another company (Abolish Pest Control in Simi Valley) to do the job. I called them at 5 in the afternoon and the job was done to my satisfaction by 5:00 the next day.

We found The Attic Guys through Angie's List after our termite inspector told us our attic was full of rodent droppings and needed to be cleaned out and re-insulated since there was practically no insulation (home was built in 1962) and it was contaminated - and they wanted $5800 which was completely unaffordable. We called The Attic Guys and Jon, the owner came out and gave us a quote that was 1/2 the $5800 price....not cheap but didn't seem unreasonable either considering what was involved. Jon was fantastic in answering all our questions and concerns and at no time did he ever seem even slightly annoyed by anything we asked of him regarding license, liability, insurance, health issues, etc. Jon and his crew came within the timeframe set, the crew set up the space so as to keep the rest of the house clean, they then cleaned out the old insulation, sanitized the attic, filled any holes from which rodents could access the attic (by coming up the walls, etc.), blew in new insulation to an R38 factor, re-sanitized, cleaned up their mess and were gone by 7PM. They worked really hard and were very pleasant. We were very pleased with how professional Jon was and how great his crew was.

Ron did a very thorough inspection of our attic when he arrived on time. There was no high pressure sales involved just a very detailed cost breakdown of their services. They did not provide termite control or air duct cleaning which we had decided to do after the second contractor was interviewed.

They never followed up to schedule an appointment, so no work was done.
Description of Work: No work was performed, because they never returned my call to schedule an appointment. This contractor was recommended to me by a neighbor so, despite mixed reviews, I thought I'd call them to perform work in my home. My experience matched another in the reviews (where they were not responsive). I called and spoke with Larry, who was nice, but appeared to be somewhat unsure about how to handle my call to schedule an appointment. He then told me that someone would call me to schedule an appointment that afternoon...but three weeks later...I still have not heard from them. This is not the type of contractor with whom I wish to work. I will not call them again.

My first contact with Ron (salesman) was pleasant enough. The negotiation of price (they were the highest of my three) was a compromise. (It should be noted that the work crew is great, even excellent). My problems began when they ran out of the special disposal bags for their vacuum which required the foreman to drive to Ontario for more (and gas for the vacuum as well). This resulted in them having to work late and still not being able to finish in one day as promised. I then noticed that the insulation that had been delivered to my front yard was unfaced. I was curious as to why there was unfaced rolls of insulation being used as I had only been familiar with faced (one side has Kraft paper on it to act as a vapor barrier for condensation created by temperature differences between attic aASHRAE standards are the most appropriate standardsnd living spaces). A quick search online informed me that the industry standard (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning, or ASHRAE) recommends "faced" insulation in a "bare" attic, " unfaced" insulation where you are installing over existing insulation, NATION WIDE!. The Los Angeles Building Permit Office informed me that the ASHRAE standards are the most appropriate standards . However, the Building Inspector will pass unfaced insulation as a bare minimum in Los Angeles because insulation requirements (code) just require R30 and don't specify faced/unfaced. I had a heated discussion with Ron (salesman) and John (ceo) which was finally settled with an increase in cost (to me) to cover the faced product. I wish that I had been informed that their initial bid was for the inferior insulation. I think that they had a responsibility to inform me that the industry standard was not what they were going to provide. Their excuse was that Southern California homes do not need moisture barriers in their attics. I repeat that when I spoke with the ASHRAE agent and the Building Inspector Permits Officer I was told that faced insulation is the appropriate material. Anyway, after promising me at 9:00 pm that they would finish the job "bright and early" the following day (I rearranged my schedule to accommodate them) they called me at 9:00 am the next day to say they would not be there till the following day, which is today. They are in my attic as I write this. We'll see how they do.

Response from Attic Guys
We apologize for any inconvenience we may cause any customer. Although we enjoy our "dirty job", at times, it doesn't always go according to plan. As our customer mentioned there were several obstacles we ran into for his particular service which we attempted to work out as smoothly and as seamlessly as possible. As our customer mentioned we do follow the building code within each projects locality. The International Residential Code (IRC) does not require nor prohibit the use of vapor retarders in climate zones 1, 2, 3, and 4 (this home was located in region 3). In an ASHRAE publication titled "Understanding Vapor Barriers", "based on a combination of field experience and laboratory testing", the committee outlines Proposed Building Code Requirements for Vapor Retarders (Barriers). The committee proposes a vapor retarder is not required in Zones 1, 2, and 3. We are committed to upholding the industry standards and following all building codes. We will satisfy every customers request that falls within those guidelines and laws in order to make every customer happy.

Initial inspection and quote went well, however leaving a message for the person that did the inspection got no response. Jon Webb got involved and a price and installation date was set. Crew arrived at the designated time, and worked until job was complete. Upon inspecting the attic found some items (old duct pipes and siding) had not been removed. Call Jon Webb and he setup an appointment for followup. On the followup date/time no one had arrived or called. I put a call into Jon Webb, and he got someone to my place within an hour. Jaessen Webb did the remaining cleanup AND did a thorough inspection. He found a few things that needed correcting. He pointed those things out to me, and took care of each item. I'm very please with the job. Jaessen Webb is a true professional!

I was very impressed by the website and called the Anaheim number of Attic Guys Friday morning about 10:30. The woman who answered (after a automatic telephone redirect) took my information and tried to reach a technician. When she couldn't, she said a technician would get back to me promptly to set up a time for an inspection. Monday afternoon I called again and spoke with a man who answered and said setting up appointments wasn't his job. He also said they were very busy all day Friday, didn't work over the weekend and Monday was Halloween so it was a holiday. I might add at no time was the telephone ever answered with the name of the company, just "Hello?". I phoned again on Tuesday morning. The woman who answered said that she had all my information from Friday and a technician would be getting in touch with me. It is Tuesday night and no one has called. I don't know if it is just the Anaheim office or what, but I give up on Attic Guys. ***Within 36 hours of my posting this on Angie's List, the company contacted me and made arrangements to come out the next day. They did a beautiful job, were on time, courteous, clean, and apologetic. Had they been like this when I first contacted them, I would have given them an A. As it is, I am raising their grade from the original F to a B/A.
Description of Work: I have rats and probably a possum in the attic, as well as blown-in insulation. I was looking for someone to clean it all up, plug the holes and put in new insulation.

We are still on the other part of the project so not quite ready for them.
Description of Work: We had them come out and do an estimate as well as a plan of action since there were several steps to this project. Very punctual, professional and definitely will be doing the work since they are Phase 3 and we are in Phase 2.

They said that there was nothing that they could do and I appreciated their honesty. Everybody is after money and I was amazed with their honesty.
Description of Work: Attic Guys came and gave me an honest evaluation about a year ago but they were not able to add anything to my insulation because of my style of home.
