I wouldn't recommend him , he would not return any calls nor repair any work he does. All he has is a VM.

The saying "you get what you pay for" is so true. Nine years ago, we had our kitchen and bathrooms remodeled. We have been having trouble with the drawers sticking or not closing with the automatic closer in the kitchen and drawers not operating fully in the bathrooms. So I called Doug at DS Cabinets to give me an estimate to fix the problems that I was having. First visit, he repaired my few drawers in the kitchen with the biggest problems. He mentioned that this fix could resolve the problem or additional work may be needed. My first impression was that I found Doug to seem to be very honest, personable man. But what surprised me the most was when I asked him what I owed him for the repairs that he made that day, he said nothing was owed that he was being neighborly and for me to just do something nice to someone else in return. Who does that! Well, as it turned out, the fix was only a temporary one. So I called Doug again. He agreed to fix my cabinet drawers even though he preferred not to work on other peoples work. During the repairs, it was evident to me that I had originally chosen the wrong cabinet maker. Many things were wrong with the drawers, not just the close operation. But that didn't stop Doug. He made a commitment to me that he would solve the problems and get my drawers back to excellent working order. And he did! What I found, Doug is an excellent cabinet maker and I so wished that I knew about him nine years ago when I had originally done my remodeling. He has an attention for detail, is not afraid to tell you the truth, very honest and is extremely skilled in his art. Plus he is a fine gentlemen. Anyone that would hire DS Cabinets would be very pleased with the outcome. I recommended him highly and will use him again without question.

Doug is a craftsman and very meticulous about his work. His materials are high quality. His price is very competitive and actually better than the ready made, semi custom cabinet estimate we got. He uses real wood doors and boxes, unless you request melamine. He is also a super nice guy and goes out of his way to make the entire experience very pleasurable. He always calls ahead of time before coming over but most of all he shows up when he says he will. He also came up with a custom stain for our island and trash can access. I would highly recommend Doug. In fact, he is going to make some additional cabinets for our family room and linen closet.

Doug's work is amazing. We are so happy with the results. Construction took several months. Prices were exceptional, especially when compared to other local vendors. Top quality materials and very transparent with labor and material costs. Craftsmanship is amazing.

Doug is one of the best people to work with. No matter the project you have in mind. We had Doug build custom cabinets for our bathroom as well as a custom linen cabinet. It came out great and he is very fast in building these considering they are custom. It was a challenging project because he needed to design and build them to fit into a bathroom built in 1952 that was built before they had "standard" stuff. He also helped us with other parts of this project, like counter tops and advice on the sink an faucet type to buy. We keep coming up with new project for Doug to help us with because we enjoy working with him so much.

We could not be happier with Doug's work and the end result. He transformed our kitchen into a custom made masterpiece, complete with a beautiful vent hood, roll-out drawers in the new pantries, what-not shelving at the end of the pantry, a nice arched nook space above the microwave for cookbooks and/or decorations, pull-out spice racks, a couple of lazy susans to maximize space in the corners and more. Doug also personally stained the doors, and continued to work on the sample finish until my wife was completely satisfied with the antique look she was seeking. From demo and constructional modifications, to building and installation, Doug did it all. It wasn't the fastest or cheapest job, but if you're looking for a top quality kitchen at a reasonable price, and don't need it all done in a week, then Doug is your guy! We've since had him build a new bathroom vanity for us as well, and will refer him to friends and family without hesitation. Thanks Doug!

Great, built exactly as requested and finish is great

We have been looking for a carpenter to complete a crown moulding project in our home. When my husband found Doug's business on Angie's List we were relieved to know that he lived only a couple of miles away in our community. He was very, very, nice, personable and trustworthy. He has been doing finish carpentry for many years and was able to provide experienced advice as to what looks good and what fits in certain areas. We are extremely happy that we found Doug and fortunate to have him finish this crown moulding project for us. Hopefully, he will come back and create a couple of fireplace mantles for us! I have a unique situation in that my home has no attic or crawl space. Further, there is an effort underway to get the homes listed on the national historic architecture registry, significantly limiting my options on changes to the outward appearance. So when it became necessary to re-pipe my home, the routing of the new plumbing and the ability to effectively conceal it was a huge concern. The company I used for the re-pipe recommended Doug Nixon, owner of DS Cabinets, to cover the new plumbing in a manner that blended in with my home's architectural style. I met with Doug at my home and after our initial meeting it was clear to me that he understood the importance of properly covering the new plumbing. He is very busy and I had to wait a bit for him to start, which he was clear about at the beginning. WOW, was he ever worth the wait! The quality of his work was amazing! He handmade on-site soffets an chases that covered the pipes. Along a 25 ft beam it looked like one piece of wood. After I primed the finished work, it looked like one solid beam, not a joint in sight! He understood the importance of doing this right and was very creative in coming up with ways to hide the plumbing so that you honestly do no know anything was ever done. Doug is a true professional, a perfectionist. He treated my job like he was working on his own home. He does not accept anything less than the best he can possibly do. On Top of all this, he is a really nice and honest person. I found his prices to be very reasonable, especially given the guality and attention to detail shown in his finished work. He understood the uniqueness of my situation and was superb in coming up with creative and effective approaches. He understood my concerns from the start and did not dismiss them. He listened to all my ideas (even the dumb ones) and was never dismissive. I quickly learned that I could trust his judgement and the finished job is truly spectacular. I could easily have paid 2 to 3 times his price without getting as good, forget better, outcome. Doug was great. I will be using him for some other work I need done. If you need any cabinetry, finish carpentry, or unique approaches to your job, Doug at DS Cabinets should be your first call, hands down!
