I have a good relationship with my tenant and he offered to help. He is not a plumber or a repair-person. However, given the additional expense, I believed that I had not much to lose by having him try. Having completed his effort, my tenant sent me the following note: "I went to the sink and cut the offending metal out with a Sawzall. My total repair time was definitely under fifteen minutes. The final photo here is the piece if metal that big blue was trying to con you with. This was a non-issue repair." Also included was a picture of the nicely repaired drain, completely reassembled. I made Paul the owner of Big Blue aware of this situation. He dismissed my compliant. He told me that Mr Mini was a fine plumber and had just received an award for his work. It is now 18 months since my tenant restored the drain. It is working just fine. If you take any estimate by Big Blue seriously, you are at risk of being conned. If Nick Mini works on your plumbing problem, it is likely to grow in scope and cost, for which he will be accordingly recognized by his company with another award. Beware the Big Blue con! Big Blue is now offering a $100 drawing for the "best" review written about the company. No criteria for victory have been specified. I do not see much chance of winning,
Description of Work: In March of 2019, my tenant informed me that he had a clogged sink drain. I called Big Blue. Nick Mini arrived and proceeded to take apart the offending drain under the sink to "hook up a customer supplied p trap and cold slide angle stop." In the process of completing this "repair", he claimed to be unable to extract the p trap from the drain. He claimed that in order to complete the extraction he had to cut the p trap from the drain. He proceeded to do the cutting that included a process of cutting four slits in the remaining end of the p trap pipe and turning them into the pipe thus almost completely obstructing potential flow through the drain. Mr Mini then told me that the remaining section of the p trap could not be extracted and that he needed to complete additional repairs. He needed to "Open wall or cabinet to expose sanitary tee and dirty arm. Cut out existing tee and dirty arm. Replace drain to floor level, connect with existing vent. Replace P-trap and dirty arm". Big Blue charged $272.80 for Nick's "repair", i.e. the obstruction of the drain. Big Blue then proposed to charge an additional $985.30 for the proposed next step.

Terrible. Bait and switch on pricing. They quoted me a price of $69.00 for an evaluation and never explained that there could be additional charges if they used a camera. They charged me 272.00. The staff was argumentative and rude when I questioned the charge. Carla and her big fat mouth kept saying she couldn't believe I didn't ask the plumber directly about the charges. I told her I called the office because that is who quoted the price. Then Ebony calls to "help find a solution" and she kept arguing with me then laughed because I told her I thought she was arguing with me rather than trying to fix the charge. I feel these people are dishonest.

We have a 100 yr old house where plumbing, gas and sewer line problems that all happened at the same time. Big Blue came out immediately to assess the problems and provide us with estimates. They provided different solutions, patiently walking us through the reasons. They were very aware of the budget constraints and worked through less expensive solutions until we were able to correct the problems. The also addressed areas that were auxiliary to the problems, fixing or improving these areas at no additional costs. They also cleaned up the mess other plumbers from a previous job 2 years ago left behind in the crawl space under our house. The crews were courteous, polite, informative and their attention to detail was thorough, often going above and beyond. The office support staff is to be commended as well. They are courteous, informative and always pleasant. The added bonus is the constant updates via email and messaging regarding estimated ETA for appointments, estimates or any incidental paperwork.

Paul and Joe quickly translated my uninformed requests into what I actually wanted to accomplish. Next they did a quick general checkup on my plumbing, water heater and gas system. They noted that I did not have an earthquake gas valve, and strongly recommended one. I nearly skipped the $533.00 earthquake valve, but Paul persuaded me I really wanted it, and now that the money is spent I find that I am glad. They replaced my bathtub overflow drain, plus the regular bathtub drain. The latter did not leak, but it no longer had a stopper mechanism, and it was tarnished and ugly. Now my bathtub has a stopper, looks 100% better, and under no circumstances drains into the room below. As to my shower, they explained that the "symptom" I saw had natural causes and would continue to occur even if they replaced the valve, but there was ANOTHER symptom I had not noticed. The appropriate action was to replace not the whole valve, but just the valve "cartridge." When they took it apart, though, they found that the cartridge was very old, so a replacement will have to be found somewhere. They put it back together, and will keep me posted early next week on their efforts to find a replacement. They arrived 15 minutes before their time window, on a Saturday. They arrived at 8:45 and were done by around two. They were friendly, professional and thorough. I am jazzed about my "new" bathtub and my earthquake valve!

CAUTION: Big Blue is a scam. They will not quote ballpark figures over the phone for plumbing jobs and they make you pay a trip charge to visit your residence/business. I was looking for a reverse osmosis drinking water system to be installed. I supplied the unit. They wanted to charge nearly $1000 to install it. The tech told me that this is their standard tiered rate for installation. Ridiculous!! They charged me $69 for the visit out here. There were other plumbers that HomeAdvisor recommended, but they were not available, only Big Blue was. They had a high rating and were available. This company seems to be making money trip charges. Buyer beware!!

Overall very well; Paul (the owner) arrived to provide an estimate and began the work that same day. He rearranged his team's schedule to complete the job the following day. Service included removal and disposal of my old tank, install of a water pressure regulator, and running of gas and electrical so that the tank could be mounted on the back of my house. This was a challenging install due to the limited space in my very small home and close proximity to neighbors, yet a job well and quickly done.

Several of my home faucets has small leaks (kitchen, bathroom and bathtub) that I wanted to repair given the drought and all. One was a recurring leak in our bathtub faucet that would go away after a while but I just wanted to fix it once and for all. I was really happy with the "one service call to look at everything" price of $59. So I put in a service call request and they came out right away - over the weekend, impressive. However the plumber that came to our home did not actually attempt to fix any of the leaks because he said it would not last because we needed to install a water pressure regulator on our main water line which would cost us about $500. Apparently our water pressure was over 100. In addition, the two of the faucets needed to be replaced with new faucets costing an additional $250-500. So $1000 to fix a few leaks. It didn't feel right - it felt like a sales pitch. I didn't agree to the work and that was that. However later in the day, as I went to wash off my toddler feet in the bathtub, I couldn't turn on the bathtub faucet. Turns out the plumber had not put the faucet back together in working order! Secondly, and even worse, he had lost a critical piece of the faucet - something like an O ring or gasket - just a round piece of plastic, I'm not sure with my terminology. Anyways, this piece prevented water from penetrating behind the faucet plate into the wall. It was gone, no where to be found. I looked in all the trash cans and everywhere. My husband and I have opened up our bathtub faucet numerous times to fix the leak when it happened in the past and have always been careful about replacing it just so. Not rocket science if we can do it. So I called to follow up and explain what happened and the woman on the other line was very apologetic and responsive. She asked if she could send someone else out to take a look and I said that I don't need someone to come out and look unless they have the replacement part. Since the first plumber took down all our faucet info, I figured they'd know which piece needed replacement. But about 30 min later she called and said her lead plumber was in the neighborhood and could she stop by and so she did. Needless to say, she did not have the replacement part. Instead, she proceeded to tell me that my bathtub faucet needed complete replacement (the other plumber didn't even suggest that), that it was actually several different faucet parts pieced together that shouldn't have been and that's why it wasn't working now. We've lived in the house for 8 years and never had a problem with it that couldn't be repaired. She quoted something like $1400 for bathtub faucet replacement - and suggested the highest end faucet they carry. She didn't acknowledge her fellow plumber lost an integral piece of our faucet, didn't even address the issue of water penetration, and didn't provide any alternative suggestions on how we could remedy it. It was just another sales pitch. Now I have saran wrap wrapped around the gap to prevent water penetration and it's an eyesore and I have no idea where to find the replacement piece that I needed. In the meanwhile, the leak has stopped again despite their work. We had EBMUD out to check our water pressure - they said it was normal and would not be the cause of small leaks in faucets. They did not recommend a water pressure regulator. All I wanted was a few simple leaks repaired and all I got was sales pitch upon sales pitch and no actual fixing of anything. And they ruined the bathtub faucet by not being able to replace the part so that it was the same as how they first encountered it. Disappointing.

Update to previous review: I received a phone call from the owner who apologized for our previous contact. This call was very professional and responsive and the owner took responsibility. He did try to call me to cancel the previously mentioned appointment but he was using the wrong phone number. I am re-writing the review because of how well he handled himself in his follow up phone call. We had by then, of course, already gone with another plumber but I appreciated the follow up. Upgrading for good follow up. The person who answered the phone was very responsive and helpful when I called on a Thursday. We set up an appointment and I waited around on a Saturday morning. After more than an hour had past, I called the company and they had an answering service take a message. Shortly after, I received a call from the plumber who stated that he was sorry our conversation the night before had been cut off but he was not going to be able to make it out to our house that day nor was he able to take the job because a long time customer was having an emergency. Problem is, he did not call me the night before to let me know he wouldn't be coming. He never called to cancel at all until I called him. He kept insisting that we had spoken the night before but this was NOT TRUE. I think that a no show by this company would have been unprofessional enough but wouldn't have provoked me to write a bad review. Trying to convince me that he had spoken with me the night before, even insisting that he had my number in his phone as a way to cover for unprofessional behavior did provoke me to share my opinion publicly. I went and looked in my phone record just to make sure I wasn't having early onset memory loss but there is no record of any communication attempt from this company. We have a very time sensitive plumbing emergency on our hands that has caused our tenants to be displaced, all of which I communicated in the initial contact on the phone. I was assured that they would be available to respond to our issue quickly. Hah.

Not only did Big Blue obtain all the necessary permits they were early to the appointment to start the work. Not wanting to disturb our house hold that was preparing for our work day the quietly waited outside. The job was completed in one day. The floors and work areas we spotless, you almost couldn’t tell they had been there. Except for one very exciting thing our drains worked. The next day while we were at work Big Blue met with the city inspector all the paperwork was completed and signed off on. Paul came back to our home that evening reviewed the inspection and the work with us. We couldn’t be happier the professional manner Paul handled a very unpleasant experience for us was fantastic. Big Blue will be the only plumbing company we will ever use.
Description of Work: To provide a complete picture of the work that was performed first it is necessary to tell the whole story. We purchased our home in July of 2011. As part of that purchase the home came with a home owners warranty provided through Fidelity Home Warranty. Within the first month of owning the home we thought the home warranty was a perfect feature because we unfortunately needed to us the service. At the time there were several small items which needed fixing, leaking faucets, thermal coupler for the hot water heater and a slow flowing guest bath drain. After a couple of adjustments to faucets, a new thermal coupler and a bottle of liquid drain cleaner we were good. That was until the next group of visitors. Again, our guest bath was not draining properly and this time when the dishwasher was run in the kitchen it would backup into the guest bath drains. While entertaining for our nephews this was not exactly how one wants the Christmas holidays to go. Another call was placed to the home warranty company and again they came to our new home. This time the service was not as timely as the last so by the time the representative responded the water had drained from the guest bath. After a couple of hours of the plumber looking through the home he informed us the job was completed and there was nothing to worry about. Again the problem came back and again the home warranty company was called with the same results as the prior two times. Finally a few weeks ago the problem again raised its ugly head. This time both guest bath sinks and the tub filled with water. The backup was so bad that water was running out of the guest bath sinks. This created another problem which required an electrician and a story for another day. The home warranty was called one more time, however because of the holiday they did not respond, so we were left to find our own plumber. We called Big Blue plumbing and within a couple of hours their technician was on site. The clean out was removed the drain snaked and then the real investigative work began. Unlike the plumber sent from the home warranty company Big Blue was determined to find the problem. The technician discovered that during prior plumbing service one of the clamps holding the drain pipe was broken. This let the line settle to a level or flat line instead of the proper coded slope. The technician explained what should be done and advised us to contact the home warranty to handle the issue. The home warranty company was contacted providing them with the detail. The responded by sending a technician to our home. The technician walked through the home was shown the broken pipe clamps walk out to his truck and left. We received a call from the home warranty to inform us that their plumber could not find the cleanout drain and drain line is not covered under our warranty. The very next day the drain backed up again, this time we called Big Blue instead of our home warranty. Paul from Big Blue came to our home at 10PM clogged our drain, replace a small piece of the drain line from the level section to show us how bad the line was in the short time the clamp was broke. He did not charge us anything because they had snaked the drain within the past 30 days. That was Big Blue’s Warranty and they stood behind it. We made an appointment for the next week to have Big Blue come back and give us a quote to replace the complete drain line from the kitchen sink down through the guest bath to the main sewer line. A few days later Paul showed up with the quote and reviewed it with us.
