We have been using them, and they have been sending us terrible people, so we may be using Angie's List more than we have in the past. They used to be good years and years ago, but lately, they have just sent the worst contractors, people who have no clue what they are doing. They sent us a plumber who did not know what he was doing. Maybe he was a re modeler but not a plumber. He came back 3 times with the wrong part, but tried to make it work. We have to pay a co-pay of $75 for each contractor that comes out. They could pick contractors that have a clue as to what they are doing. We have had plumbing issues that go back several years, and they have to constantly send someone back out. We had sump problems in the front. some sewer line that was clogged by a tree that was growing into the sewer line, we had people come out for that. They didn't know what they were doing, so we had to hire somebody ourselves. Every time we have called them, they have had some problem with why they could not fix it. They have not been bad in responding. We are going to drop them at the end of this month.
Description of Work: We use Home Buyers 2-10 Warranty. They are out of California. They sent us a company called A-Z Plumbing and Remodeling.

I paid $879.50 to have this company repair my grinder and rejection pump. They refused to repair it stating these repairs are not included in the warranty agreement. I paid $50 extra to add my septic system to the list of repairs under the warranty. They have my money and will not do the repairs. I would my money refunded to me.

It is a mix bag. Sometimes they are really good and very attentive and other times you call them and they tell you stuff is not covered and not willing to help. It is confusing to know exactly what is covered.

The provider took the claim, told us we had a 75.00 copay and said their service person would contact us. Days later in the 90 degree heat we finally received a call from the service person. He made an appointment for service - we had to wait several more days in the terrible heat. He finally arrived and diagnosed the problem without checking the entire unit and using no meters whatsoever. He then cleaned out a hose on both of our units and was out in less than 30 minutes. The next day the same problem returned. This was on a weekend and we apparently had the wrong telephone number at 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty; however, the number we called did have a recorded message that said "for service dial __". I dialed the number a left a message and no one ever returned our call, not even to tell us we had the wrong number. Finally, we were forced to call another service man in to give us relief in the heat. He diagnosed a leak in our coolant and was able to add coolant - but we did need to finally replace our unit. I attempted to ask 2-10 to help pay for the serviceman and they told me they did not authorize the service so they would not pay anything. The 500.00 for the supreme coverage was a big waste of money. I do not plan to ever call them - I'm certain that is the manner in which they operate with all clients. I'm very disappointed in this warranty; we thought moving in to a new home we would be protected, we were wrong.

Let me start by saying that there is very little choice on which home warranty you can purchase. It's either this or nothing. And something is better than nothing, right? Maybe. To date I have been without A/C since July 8th (it is July 28th today). I live in Texas where the heat index is currently 105 degrees and humidity prohibits opening windows. For little things, this company is pretty good. And by little things, I mean very small issues like fixing a leaky toilet. For bigger issues, like A/C or electrical, it becomes very difficult for them to find a contractor willing to work with them. The problem is that they, 2-10 Warranty, underpay their contractors and demand a long authorization call (around 45 to 60 minutes) for the contractor to authenticate the repair. And of course, the contractor does not get paid for that hour they're on the phone waiting. The contractor also does not get paid for the time it takes to diagnose the problem, and when authorization is finally given, the rate they do get paid is below the going standard rate in your area. So what happens? They can't find anyone to do the job because no one is willing to work with them. However, they're very proud of the fact that YOU can contract an out of network company and pay out of YOUR pocket. They will reimburse you, BUT the contractor still has to call for authorization before any work is done. So.... That means YOU have to find someone to diagnose the job for free and/or sit on the phone for an hour for free. It may be possible to find some one desperate for work with little or no experience or liability insurance, but any reputable company will ask to be reimbursed for the time they are on your job. The people at 2-10 are very polite, but they don't get anything done in a timely matter. And when they do get something done, it's the wrong part, the wrong info or the wrong contractor. Having no A/C is considered an emergency with the temps are above 95. Well, here it it in the 100's and still no a/c because they can't find the parts. They can't authorize the A/C company to use their own parts. 2-10 has to find the part cheaper somewhere else. So much for an emergency! Having no electrical power going to your a/c unit is not considered an emergency. They will respond within 24 to 72 hours. I'm not sure where the logic is in that. I am currently waiting on an electrician who I will pay out of pocket. Even though 2-10 has acknowledged that they can't find anyone willing to comply with their demands, I am not covered for reimbursement if the contractor doesn't call after doing the diagnostics but before doing the job. I could go on and on about their silly loop holes, but there is really no point. They refuse to deviate from their guide lines for any reason. They take their time and make things so difficult on the homeowner, that in the end, the homeowner must give up in order to get the job done. In my case, I've held out as long as I can with no A/C. I can't wait any longer, so I will pay for it out of pocket. I wish I had known 20 days ago that I would end up paying out of pocket. At least the A/C electrical would have been repaired by now.

This saga began earlier this week when my 87 year old mother had her fridge go out. She called 2/10 and was told it would be 10 days before Sears could get out. All her food ruining and 10 days without a fridge. I called 2/10 and after hearing repeatedly 'I understand' from a rep I ask to speak to a supervisor. I ask him if we could call an independent who could get there quicker and he said yes but the independent had to call 2/10 with his diagnosis. We had him there that afternoon. His diagnosis - the fridge could not be repaired buy a new one. Well they did not like that so said we had to get a 2nd opinion from one of their guys. They found one who could be there the net day. (Where was he when we were told 10 days?) Meanwhile I was able to locate a guy - who works with 2/10 - who could come that afternoon. So I called 2/10 got approval and ask them to cancel the guy scheduled the next day (they didn't, he showed up anyway). That guy comes by that afternoon and gives same diagnosis as 1st opinion. I askk them to add m y email to her file and was told that was done . Today I was told they did not have it. 2/10 agrees to buy new fridge. Sends mom a model to look at online. Exactly how does one buy a major appliance online without seeing it???? We find it at Home Depot and drive out to look at it. She finds another model $100 cheaper and calls to ask if she can purchase the less expensive model. She is told that department's system is down and they will call her later, No call that day. This morning she waited still no call. I called for her. After transfer around a very rude rep who kept interupting anything I tried to say ask for model numbers and mother's phone number. Don't you have your clients phone #? I tell her to call my mother as she has the model number. She does call her and says she has to get authorization and will call her back. So here we sit again - 12:00 AM and no call. No fridge. Everyone I talked to over the last 3 to 4 days has been rude and evidently the only line they know is 'I understand'. 2/10 could care less if anything at all gets done. I think they try to frustrate clients until they finally give up and pay for repairs on their own.

I pay monthly for the warranty, and the cost depends on what type on cover you pick up. It can only cover a brand new home and if you decide to cover appliances, they charge you more for that. It became a hassle dealing with them on the phone some of the times. We didn't shop around for the price, it was offered to us when we purchased the house new. They were very good, and they were very responsive. We would use them again if we had the opportunity to purchase a new home.
Description of Work: We used 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty and we used plumbing and heating service through them all the time. They provide home warranty. It is not the structural warranty that you get when you purchase the house.

I didn't like it at all. They came with the house when we bought it. We'd had them for a few years but our hot tub was covered on the warranty and ultimately that's what caused us to cancel our subscription with them because they continued to assign our work to a service provider in the area who would never show up and never do what they are supposed to do. We would call the warranty company and they would make promises that never came true about how they were going to make sure somebody came out and nobody ever came out. It went on for months. They always wanted to pass it off on somebody else. I wish they just either agreed to replace the hot tub because it couldn't be repaired or find a service provider who would actually show up. I would tell others, 'Do not use the company'.
Description of Work: They had to repair different things for us. They successfully repaired our air conditioner a couple of times, a dishwasher once and a water heater once.

I tried to use the warranty in November. They just gave me lies and delays, anything to not pay for the service. They denied my claim because the tub was cracked. However, the tub was un-installed in my living room without a crack which the technician could confirm, and they refused to believe that. They wanted me to hire someone else to come out and confirm it in order to accept the claim. They finally said they would send me $150 for it. It was a very frustrating process overall, and they were unreasonable and dishonest.

Home warranty companies are worst examples of insurance companies there are. Imagine worse than zero customer service with full time focus on not providing you any service so as to keep all the money and do nothing but avoid working. My real estate agent choose this company as I find out because they get kick back from the warranty so step one don't let agent choose any warranty company. Anyway, you call the company it is fully automated no real people. They setup a call with who ever they are contracted to in your area. They email telling you the plumber will call you back to finalize your appointment. a day later and the service provider still has not called you so you call them leave 3 message After hours of searching them down they schedule you for 4 days later. I tell them that is unacceptable so you call back 2-10 but instead to get out of automated h*** you have to look up corporate number after 1 hr waiting for corporate they apologize and schedule another plumber. You again recieve the email from 2-10 saying plumber will call you but 24 hrs later same thing no call from plumber , so I call and leave 3 message never a call back. Finally someone answer the phone says 4 days later 1st appointment. Totally useless. So if you can wait 5 days with flooding house, no ac etc then maybe the home warranty is useful for the rest of the world call your own reputable contractor because home warranty guy will take week and then you will get shoddy service when any real repair will be denied.

This is a current and active service issue. They were contacted on 2/1/15 and to this day they have not resolved the situation. I had requested this be an emergency service and they first placed it as a "medium" priority service, which caused their delay. My heat had completely gone out and we are experiencing freezing tempuratures which constitutes the emergency status. I've been calling them and they tell me the same thing every time. CMR Ventures were contracted to come out an they have been fighting with 2-10 about the part they need to make the repair. 2-10 wanted to send one part they believed would fix the problem, even though CMR specifically told them they needed a heat chip to make the repair. Because of this mis-communication between the two companies I am a victim of circumstance. 2-10 has refunded my deductible $100 as poor "compensation" for their mix up. I've had work orders in to them for the same hvac unit in the past in much less dire circumstances and they worked much harder at resolving the issue than they have this time. I spoke to CMR this morning who advised me that the part is still not in. 2-10 told me that they do NOT expidite any parts, regardless of emergency work order status. To me, they're violating their own definition of "emergency" by refusing to expidite parts in actual emergencies situations.

On Christmas Eve, our dishwasher began leaking and flooding our basement. At the same time, I was having some difficulties with my clothes washer. We decided to try to get service through the home warranty company, though we had very bad experiences with home warranties (other companies) in the past. They set us up with work orders and an appliance repair company. The problem continued to get worse and we were bailing water out of the dishwasher every two hours all day and night due to the holiday. We were not able to turn off the water flowing to the dishwasher, due to a faulty plumbing valve leading to the appliance. I called again and requested a plumbing appointment. This was the 26th. Their plumber simply did not answer or return my phone calls. Subsequent research revealed that their chosen plumber has two formal complaints against him with the BBB. I called back again and said that because this is an emergency I wanted to use my own plumber, who I KNOW will return phone calls. They agreed. My plumber came and installed a new shut-off valve which finally stopped the flooding. The home warranty company only part of that expense (I presume because I used an "out-of-network" plumber). Next up, the appliance repair man came out and looked at the clothes washer and the dishwasher. The clothes washer was working, but needed me to manually turn the knob (or raise and lower the lid) to get it to switch from wash to rinse cycle. The clothes washer, he said, needed a new timer, new door hinge and a new part that senses when the door is open or closed. He ordered the parts for that. He looked at the dishwasher and said that they do not remove dishwashers in order to repair them because it can damage the kitchen flooring. They had had bad experiences with consumers going after them for damaging their floors. If we could get it out ourselves, then they could repair it. Needless to say, we cannot get it out ourselves. A couple of weeks later, the parts came in for the clothes washer and the appliance repair man came again and installed the parts. Now my clothes washer is completely unable to spin or drain, even with a manual assist from me. Again asked him about the dishwasher. Again, he refused to remove it. I called the home warranty company to fight for a dishwasher repair, was escalated through three or four levels of customer service, and instead of negotiating they just kept repeating over and over that they will not remove dishwashers. My policy states that dishwasher repair is covered. But if removal is not covered, how can the repair be covered? They were a Berlin Wall of refusal to communicate or negotiate. After discovering that the clothes washer still isn't working, I made another call for washer repair. They made an appointment with me for Monday, then called and canceled. Now have an appointment on Friday, maybe. We decided to give up on the dishwasher and called our own appliance repair company. I will probably end up doing the same for the washer, because I will have a stroke or heart attack if I have to deal with 2-10 again. If you are selling your home, please do your buyer a favor and do not provide a home warranty!
Description of Work: Provider paid partially for one minor plumbing repair and paid for a minor repair to a clothes washer which resulted in a worse problem. They refused to pay for any repair to our dishwasher.

I have 2-10 warranty per the recommendation of my realtor. I bought a house in AZ in June 2014. My problems with this company started the day I moved in. I got to the house with the movers and the A/C wasn't working and it's almost 100 degrees inside at 11 in the AM. I called 2-10. I was told my warranty hadn't funded yet and so my account wasn't active. It's June 30th in AZ and the movers are moving furniture in the house right then. I had no time to fool around with phone calls and I assumed I was given the correct information. So, I had a friend find me a company to come out and fix the A/C. I did call my realtor not long after that about the warranty. A couple of hours later, the A/C guy that ended up coming out is on the roof about to replace the part on the A/C when I get a call from my realtor who had made her own calls to her contacts at 2-10. Turns out, I DID have coverage. However, the guy fixing my A/C is out of network so I got stuck with the full bill -$30 (The full bill was $296). Had I been given correct information to begin with, I would have made every effort to go with an in-network company. The reps at 2-10 are fully aware of what happened and to this day, have made no effort to rectify it. Now, my dryer is out. I called 2-10, opened a claim, and the claim information was sent electronically to the appliance service center. It's taken me 3 calls to get them to actually come out. While this issue hasn't been nearly as bad as the other, 2-10 essentially sent off some electronic information then wiped their hands of the situation. I haven't heard from them once, not even an email. I've had this warranty 4 months, almost 5, and this has been my experience so far. Needless to say, I will NOT be buying a home warranty from this company and am just glad I didn't buy the one I have (part of the close of sale of the home). I highly recommend anyone who wants to buy a home warranty to NOT use 2-10 Home Warranty.

We have a warranty from the sellers of our house. The shower would not work, and the tub would not drain. They sent their authorized plumber to look at it. He looked for 2 minutes and said the faucet wasn't covered under our warranty. Then, he said the drain wasn't that bad (it was), and he couldn't use his snake anyway. Hen, after sitting in his truck for 2 minutes, he charged me $100.00.

I pay a monthly fee to them. I found that they had the most reasonable coverage for the annual amount. Their deductible has steadily increased over the years, but it's still reasonable. It's home warranty. They just offer that to anyone who owns a house. You can just basically buy that annually like insurance. It cover things like if the motor on the HVAC unit goes out. They come in and see that it needs a replacement part or it needs to be replaced. The contractor that they have chosen will replace the part. You only have to pay $100, that's basically like your deductible and then the company authorizes all the rest of the work up to a certain amount. They're not the actual ones that respond. The contractors that they have sent to me have been very responsive. It's kind of like health insurance. The price always goes up and the coverage seems to go down. So each year I'm evaluating whether or not I'm going to continue to use them.
Description of Work: I've used them. I haven't really filed that many claims, but the couple that I have filed have been taken care of. The ones that weren't taken care of were things that I wasn't aware of that weren't covered in our warranty.

A part went out on our water heater a week and a half ago, so we decided to utilize our home warranty. A plumber came out to take a look, and determined the issue. The warranty company offered us the option of taking a check for $610 to cover the cost of the repair, or shipping us the part. After speaking with the subcontracted plumber, we decided to take the part, as he informed us that the water heater unit itself would cost around $2000 and the part we needed cost roughly $900. Almost two weeks later, here we still sit, with no hot water. We are anxiously awaiting the part to fix the water heater, after they shipped it to the wrong city already. I'm still not quite sure where our part is, but it sure isn't here! This warranty company is horrible!
Description of Work: This warranty was offered by the seller of my new home as an added bonus. It had a $75 deductible for this service that we paid to the actual contracted service provider for our need.

Every time that we would use them for something, the contractors that we get are completely rip offs as far as the maximum that they can get from the insurance company, they don't really have anything left to work for, like another job, when it comes within the year. I remember that when I was signing up, they have these different scales and you can go for a premium service where it covers more stuff. It's like a $150 or $200 extra for a year but what was not basically explained to me was that they have a service where the typical initial payments is like a $100 but you could have a $75 if you also pay an extra amount. When I upgraded to premium, I thought that everything was included with the $75 mark but apparently not. It was sort of like you had to read between the lines and add that to an additional cost on top of that to get the $75. I don't know if I'll be using them again. I included so many stuff and now I feel like if I need to use them, they'll just send me another contractor that's gonna rip me off again though their responsiveness and punctuality is pretty good.

HORRIBLE. I am going to sue them. And file a claim with the BBB Immediately. I was lied to by several supervisors and so was my electrician. This was the worst case of customer abuse I can put into words. I give you my word, I am taking them to court and seeing my lawyer in the morning who is also a Judge.
Description of Work: Agree to pay for Replacement of Electrical Panel and then the day before install denied the claim

After I bought a house, I have the option of getting this. They will cover any repairs that needed to be done on my appliances and other parts of the house. It depends on what kind of coverage I will get. They did a great job in fixing my dryer. If they're not able to fix it, they'll replace it. They charge $500 a year and $50 for the service call. Everything else is free.
Description of Work: We have used 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty and we're currently under contract with them. They came out recently because we had a dryer that stopped functioning.
