I'm happy with the blinds. I was just surprised at how expensive they actually were. It was my own fault that I didn't look into the cost beforehand.
Description of Work: I had them put blinds on a window. The $79 was for a Big Deal towards $300 worth of blinds.

First I want to apologize to Mike for takiing so long to do this review! I am the worst procrastinator. I had done a little research and shopping before I contacted Mike and Blind Guys, so I new exactly which blind I wanted. Mike was very knowledgeable on the phone when I called for an appointment. He was able to come to the house within a couple of days of me calling. When he came he showed me the sample of what I had chosen to confirm it was the correct one and we were on our way! Our initial meeting was around Thanksgiving 2013 and I was needing them installed by December 20th because I had Christmas company coming. Although it was not much notice, Mike and his crew came through. The blinds were ordered and installed in time for my visitors! Mike and his crew were very professional, quick and thorough. The cost was very competitive with the estimate I had received prior to Blind Guys. The double valance was also included that wasn't part of the competitor's quote. I was very pleased.
Description of Work: Installed Hunter Douglas vertical blinds on 2 standard size sliding glass doors, 1 dining room window, and 1 living room bay window (3 actual windows) . All included double valances, wand pull to open and to twist. (I think the style was Cadence, our blinds had the color on front and back which was something I was looking for.

They came out and measured all the windows, went to the catalogs to understand what I was ordering and answered all my questions that we had. The service was outstanding. The reason we chose them was because of the quality service that they brought out and showed out the blinds that they had. They were always listening to us, was prompt and polite. They showed up on time, all of the requirements were told which were needed to install. They demonstrated everything and how to use the blinds; they made sure how to use it in long fold and how to use it in different forms than other blinds if something happens to the blinds. Before they left they made sure that we were well instructed how to use the material.

I wanted this to work, as this company was highly recommended by my window people. BUT - When he came to give an estimate, he was rushed, and spent a lot of time pointing out poor quality installation of my existing blinds. He said that a quote for what we discussed (rushing through his samples, with him huffing with impatience throughout the interaction) would be sent within a week. I didn't hear from him after a month. I have emailed and have called the company 4 times and have had NO response. What an odd way to do business! Perhaps he didn't "like" me and didn't want me as a customer. If that is the case, then it would still be most professional to simply communicate that to me. A company that simply ignores contact from potential customers is not a winner.
Description of Work: The provider came to give an estimate on blinds. I had requested by phone that we look at the entire home, but that one set of windows was the most urgent priority.

Mike replaced a damaged shutter. I had estimated the cost to be double what he charged to fix it. I also told him I needed to wait until after the holidays to have it done, and I didn't have to call him to remind him. He already had the shutter replacement and called me Fri Jan 3 to schedule the fix for Mon Jan 6. I was extremely pleased with the original purchase, installation and service, and got the same level of excellent product, price and service again. As long as he is in business Mike will be my blind guy.

Mike made a special effort to come to my home before I had to go out of town. I had worked with a local design service which had taken several weeks to get me a bid. I was getting concerned because I was going out of town and then was expecting company. Mike understood my concerns and in the first appointment he made great suggestions which solved my problems, he gave me a bid and the product was ordered. I also wanted to make a change the next morning and he was very nice about the change. He knows his products and was able to answer all my questions about light, insulation factor, about everything I questioned, he answered. He was also great with matching color. He knew his product and was able to produce colors that matched my needs. He contacted me by phone as soon as the products arrived (which was sooner than expected) and was able to install them after removing the plantation shutters and the other window covering. He removed the items I didn't want. He was timely, efficient and professional. I would hire him again for any future needs and would recommend him to any of my friends. He was very refreshing after dealing with the first company with which I was working, as we met about 4 times, it took several days for them to get back to me after I ask questions they could not answer and after 3 weeks I was getting concerned. I am very happy with the finished product. They are a great compliment to our home and the meet all of our needs.
Description of Work: Mike Levy reviewed my window treatment options, made great suggestions and ultimately installed motor operated honey comb blinds on 2 windows and blinds on a sliding glass window. He also removed the plantation shutter which were on 2 of the windows.

Mr. Levy installed a set of plantation shutters on our first home in Tucson and it went fairly well. So we decided to use him when we moved to our second home. We decided to use horizontal wooden blinds versus plantation shutters do to overall cost. We clearly and explicitly divulged that we had an older home with single pane windows and he stated the blinds would not warp due to intense heat. And that they would be fully guaranteed. When he verbally goes through his liturgy of the Hunter Douglas warranty, get him to put it in writing or review it on his website. "Normal wear and tear" not covered. Really? Fortunately for us, after 3 warping's of 4-5 different coverings, Hunter Douglas backed their products and the blinds were replaced. During the replacement process, he charged us for temporary blinds and he stated we couldn't keep the blinds we paid for while new ones were made. So you can image after 60-90 days waiting, for 3 evoulutions, the glued that held the inexpensive temporary blinds quit working and was very aggravating. Blinds hitting the floor at 0300 in the morning, full sunlight waking you up early at sunrise during the summer months. At the 4th warpage, we asked Mr. Levy to install something better or he could take his blinds and refund our money as we were completely unsatisfied. He stated that there had been some material problems with those blinds at the factory and he negotiated a full refund with Hunter Douglas and we upgraded to the plantation shutters. Kudos to Hunter Douglas for stepping up!!! So now we have our plantation shutters installed after all that only to have them break at the hinges where the hidden closer attach to the louvers. Additionally, the cutouts for the shutters on the doors where incorrectly cut and he refused to acknowledge his mis-measurement and would have them correctly made. I also made the mistake to use the term, " I thought they broke under normal were and tear." At that point all bets were off and he said he wouldn't warranty them. I said,"Mike, after all these years and service calls you decide not to service your product, what's up?" His response was he was just being nice in taking care of his customers and he had decided to no longer "be a nice guy." In the negotiations before I got involved he was extremely rude to my wife and eventually to myself. We have since contacted Hunter Douglas and they once again backed their products. In this scenario, the blinds were improperly installed, causing them to break. In three complete window installations, I have never seen Mr. Leavy or his employees use a level, square or a shim to properly install his products. We had another Hunter Douglas certified installer do the work as Mr. Levy in no longer invited into our home. So when you read about "The Blind Guy," remember the bottom line. Hunter Douglas will always be professional and back their products, but what is not warranted is the INSTALLER!!! Hunter Douglas cannot warranty the install, and Mr. Levy has demonstrated he will leave you high and dry, so you're on your own with that one. Apparently his business is appropriately named as I'm sure a blind person could do a better job. Trust me when I tell you, if you want to be treated rashly, insulted, ignored and otherwise taken advantage of, The Blind Guy is your man. Buyer Beware!!!

The provider was prompt, friendly, professional and the price was fair for the quality of the product and the service. BG stayed on top of the project and contacted us as appropriate.
Description of Work: A set of blinds on a very large window was broken. BG came out, measured and gave us options. We upgraded to higher end blinds. When BG came back to install the manufacturer had made an error in the size of a blind for a second window. BG promptly took care of correcting the error, and BG came out to install the new blind for the second window within a week.

It went so-so. This was my first experience with a big deal on angies list. It was $90 for $300 of blinds. The problem with buying a big deal is that it puts you in a weaker negotiating position. I have no doubt that I could have had Blind guys come out without a big deal, got a quote and bargained the offer down $210. That being said, I suppose if you don't like negotiating than perhaps Big Deal's are a good way to go. Some of the other big deals (discounted gift cards, explicitly defined services at discounted rates - AC tune up, 3 hours of cleaning, etc), but discounts on services where the quoted price is a bit arbitrary to start with don't make sense to me. Moving on from the big deal I can rate the actually performance of Blind Guys. They came out, assessed the two windows that made of the corner window and presented me with the color options for the cheapest top down / bottom up single cell blinds available from Hunter Douglas. I picked a color that looked good in the sample book with an opaque background, but less good when light is actually shinning through it. So my strong advice is to make sure you use a flashlight or something to examine the samples as they will actually look during the day. I think that as a professional in the window covering industry Mike should have done this for me, but he didn't and know I know better. After choosing the blinds Mike quoted a price of around $750-$350 from the big deal for a total of approx $450 + $90 (I paid for the big deal). Without much room to negotiate and the big deal already purchased I agreed, he ordered the blinds and they showed up 3 weeks later. After they showed up he promptly called, set up an appointment, and installed them in under 15 minutes. However, Hunter Douglas apparently sent normal bottom up blinds without the top down functionality which was essential to my situation. He promised to leave the newly installed blinds up until the corrected ones arrive from Hunter Douglas. After a couple of months of not hearing from him I called and left a message asking about that status of my replacement blinds. Once reminded of the issue he promptly got back to me that he would get Hunter Douglas to send new ones, but that top/down bottom ups would not work with my window so my options were to keep the ones I had or get some top down (no bottom up) replacements. The issue with top down / bottom ups not working with my particular window is also something I feel a professional should have realized from the very beginning. I opted for the top down option as that was essential for my needs. Once the new blinds arrived we scheduled a general time to get them installed. He had to cancel that time and schedule a new one. Once he did arrive he swapped the blinds very quickly (5 minutes). He waived the final $112 I owed upon completion and offered to install the incorrect blinds on a different window if any were the same size. They weren't. Summary: The good- -Other than forgetting to get my replacement blinds, Mike was generally very prompt and did good work. -Installation time was very quick and seems fairly well done. -If you are opposed to DIY blinds, and want Hunter Douglas I think Blind Guys is a good company. The bad- -Blind selection would have been drastically helped by actually shinning light through the blinds to see what they looked like. -Mike should have known that corded top down / bottom up ones wouldn't have worked in my situation. I believe cordless ones would have and that he should have offered to get those for me at no additional charge assuming Hunter Douglas sells them. -The whole process ended up taking 3-4 months. -Price. I think that Blind Guys charges a competitive price on getting Hunter Douglas blinds installed while still making enough to stay in business. This in no way means that this was a good deal on blinds. See below. My suggestions- I have since replaced the blinds in two bedrooms by purchasing blinds on one of the major discount blind websites. One blind was a 2 1/2 inch real wood bottom up and the other is a top down / bottom up double cell blind. Both are for windows around 50"W x 40"T. Both blinds easily look as good as my Hunter Douglas ones. Installation was fairly simple if your at all handy. It maybe took me 30-60 minutes and would probably be much quicker if I did a few more. Cost was $120-150 / blind. Getting some premium wood and double cell blinds for fairly large windows from hunter douglas installed would likely have cost me at least a $1000. This isn't to say anything against Mike, his company, or Hunter Douglas. However, if you are competent with a drill, screw driver, tape measure, and a level then I suggest saving yourself at least $300/window and doing it yourself. If you have money, little time, and want that status of having Hunter Douglas I think Blind Guys is a good company despite my mediocre experience.

He arrived on time, told me what was appropriate for the window- quoted prices that were 3 or 4 times what I could purchase on line for. Then he told me I was REQUIRED to have him do the install and I said no I had someone- he got mad and said that just wasn't the deal- that he made no money on this promo without the install but I told him that was not written as part of the offer and I was not going to have him install- we went round about it and he was quite pushy and rude once I wasn't having him install. then he pretty much told him I had no taste in window coverings if I was going to be satisfied with anything less than his product- I just told him to leave and I wanted a refund. I would not recommend this company. they are really expensive and clearly out to get people to over spend and force them to have them do the install.

Mike is so professional and hard working. I knew the minute I met him, he would provide excellent service and he did. He doesnt' send someone else to do the work. He does it himself with an assistant who is just as professional as he is. I love my new window coverings and really appreciated the extra service of moving a queen size mattress, box springs and frame to the garage for me, just to be nice! It's hard to find this type of service in Tucson. I come from California where service providers are competitive and need the jobs, so their work was great and I was spoiled. I got a real culture shock when I moved to Tucson, so having someone like Mike show up and do the job, was a treat and a real stress reducer

Before initial contact we needed to leave multiple messages to get a call-back and probably would not have gone with him if we had not already paid money to Angie's List for the promotion. I trusted Angie's List over things like Groupon and here YOU were not delivering. He contacted us to do the installation MUCH longer after the purchase than he had promised. After the installation he needed to return twice to correct basic problems and to deliver & install 2 blinds that had been sized wrong upon first delivery. ASLO, he had promised to give us the name of a supplier for an related product that he does not carry. He never did this.
