Description of Work: I contacted Mark to do some updating on our home. He spent hours contacting contractors and scheduling them to come out to our home. He made sure we were getting what we wanted. During this time my husbands health took a dive and we were not able to start the projects. Mark was understanding and considerate of our situation. I can't give a recommendation for his work but I can give a recommendation for his ethics and people skills and if and when the time comes around where we can do some projects we will definitely call Mark.

Description of Work: Mark did a great job with my carport to garage conversion and sunken living room fill in. He went out of his way to make sure everything was completed by his subs to my satisfaction. His pricing was honest and fair. I will hire him for my future projects. Description of Work: consulted with mark on remodel, fencing and other projects. he was very helpfulwith his advice and generous with his time. he is more along the lines of a contractor, and as i am retired and my individual projects are pretty small, he told me that i would be better off hire the subs myself which i appreciated. i do have some experience with previous remodels. being new to tucson he did help with a kind of overview and checked with the city for me on fencing questions.

+ 1 moreMark Thomas gave us an estimate and went through every line on the estimate so we had a good understanding of the price and what work would be performed. Once we accepted the estimate, we set up a time frame with Mark. His sub-contractors were friendly and professional. We have absolutely no complaints working with any of the sub-contractors that came into our home. All communications were done through Mark so we knew who was coming and when. At the end of the project we were very happy with the work performed. I have asked Mark for an estimate on another project we are hoping to tackle in the month August. We made the final payment to Mark this morning and he came in over $500.00 LESS than the estimate. We were not only totally pleased with the work and the work ethics of Mark and his entire crew, but what a pleasant surprise to see the final bill. I would highly recommend Mark Thomas and crew after the work they have done for us.
Description of Work: We had a fireplace that was located in our family room turned around to face the outside. The inside wall then had to be drywalled, finihsed, and painted. The outside wall also had to be finished and painted.

+ -1 moreThey are great. I obviously searched Angie’s List for this and got 4 different estimates. I liked dealing with them the best and Mark, who is kind of the owner, has been up here several times. He asked me questions while investigating and put in a lot into the job. They’ve been really nice and pretty responsive. They have other sub-contractors who do the work and they show up late. I had to cancel my blood test because I had to wait for them. I’m going to have them do another project where they would have to rip out and do a whole new thing for our shower.
Description of Work: Straw Dogs Construction Inc is working on a project for me right now. They have not completed it yet. They gave me a quote about 10 days ago.

+ -1 moreI can't say enough good things about Straw Dogs Construction - Mark, his workers and subs. Everyone arrived on time for the days they were to be at the house. Even when Mark wasn't doing the physical labor himself, he still came by to check up on the work being done and touch base with me. He was always in contact with me and kept us informed of any updates or changes. He uses a cost plus contract proposal, so all of this information was very helpful. Whenever I made any changes or additions he was willing to do them. When the shower enclosure and final painting were contracted out to other companies he still made sure I was happy with the work being done. He is very animal friendly, having cats and dogs himself, and always makes sure the client's animals are secured and out of harm's way before he starts working. We never felt uncomfortable leaving the house for work every day or going about our daily lives while the work was being done. Everything went smoothly steady. Mark had a key to the house and always locked up before leaving. At the end of the project he promptly returned it. I have called him to do other jobs for us and he's always happy to help out. Mark is very friendly and will call every so often just to say hi and make sure everything is going well. He also wants to make sure the work done is still to our liking. When I was sick last summer he even came to the hospital to see me! His website, strawdogsconstruction.com, has many testimonials also happy with his work and work ethic.
Description of Work: Straw Dogs Construction, ie Mark Thomas and his wonderful subcontractors, is a wonderful company to use for residential remodeling. I wanted to re-do my 1948 house's bathroom from top to bottom and Mark was just the guy to do it. The company is licensed, bonded and insured. Mark and his crew, including knowledgeable subs, removed the existing vanity, toilet, shower enclosure, tub, tile floor, wallpaper, and doorway into the existing closet. In other words, they gutted the room! They re-framed one wall and the closet doorway. All new electrical was installed including circuits, cans and standard trim. The old plumbing was capped off and new pipes were connected during the fur out, top out and trim. New drywall was installed and they replaced the old window with a new one. A new closet door was hung, which included an opening for the cats to access the litter box. The closet was re-done by adding shelves and light fixtures. All of the floor tile was replaced and a custom tile design was done on the shower walls. The outside access panel was replaced and stucco was patched around it as well as the window and the holes left by the old water pipes. They installed all of the hardware - hinges, door knobs, etc. Excluded was the vanity, glass shower enclosure, and painting, which were done by another company. Mark has many resourses he can call on to help out. I already had an electrician and Mark was willing to work with him. At the end of every day the crew cleaned up the area around the construction and put their tools away. Every care was done to minimize the impact on out family and pets.

+ 1 moreThe owner, Mark Thomas, was personable, faithful to all of my requests, supervised the jobs effectively, and made sure that I was completely satisfied. He did all of this with good humor, good communication, cleanliness, punctuality, and excellent craftsmanship. 7 years later, the first remodel of the bathroom is still beautiful and looks brand new. 5 years later, the second bathroom is still attractive and in perfect working order, and the kitchen is a dream to work in. The latest project from this summer of energy efficient doors and windows has lowered my electric bills, the house is quieter, and it looks fantastic, both inside and out. With the help of Straw Dogs Construction, I have turned this 1970 fix up into a beautiful, comfortable home that I am very proud of. Having used another provider to install 300 feet of new fencing in September, I now appreciate Straw Dogs Construction even more. The fencing crew was messy, didn't listen to my concerns, did poor workmanship, and was improperly supervised. In retrospect, I wish I had pressed Straw Dogs Construction to manage the installation of the new fence. I am completely satisfied with all of the work that has been done by Straw Dogs Construction. Even if they are not the least expensive, the old adage of "You get what you pay for" holds true. For any future work, I would call Straw Dogs first and know, without a doubt, that my project would be in good, capable hands.
Description of Work: Replaced all windows and doors with energy efficient tax credit approved windows & doors. Straw Dogs Construction has also remodeled both bathrooms and the kitchen within the last 7 years. In all, Straw Dogs Construction has done three different remodeling jobs at this house for a total investment of over $33,000.

+ -1 moreWe interviewed several contractors and ended up choosing Straw Dogs because of Mark's excellent communication skills and his excellent subcontractors. The bid was slightly higher than others, but his adherence to a timetable, the minimal disruption and the overall quality more than compensated for the difference. We knew what to expect every day of the job. In Mark, you have someone who is both an excellent craftsman and an excellent manager. This combination is unusual and made for a smooth construction experience. And, hey, how many of us can claim to have had that??? In addition, Mark was not territorial about his and our people. He coordinated well with our own granite and tile contractors, even though they were not his own subcontractors. FYI: The work included moving one wall, beaming out a bearing wall, sheetrocking between beams on ceilings in three rooms and doing a host of other updates for the home. He was good about checking on the quality of the work each day, fixing any problems and making the operation run as smoothly as it possibly could. He was realistic about the timetable and he was generous with his advice. Highest marks for Straw Dogs.
