The person that came out appeared to be more concerned about being paid right away first and foremost. He took all the components including the spare parts. Communication was poor and and completion of the work took several weeks. When they told me the system was ready we arranged a time for install. When he arrived and installed the system the radio was not working properly, and for what they were charging the did not even clean it. The unit had to be pulled out again and taken back to the shop. I asked about my spare parts he said they were at the shop and it was all junk anyway, I asked that he return them either way. Two weeks later I was called that it was ready, he installed the radio and the turn table, again not even taken the time to clean it. The record player still does not work properly as it appears not much was done to repair it since I have to use my hand to push and get it started. He promptly asked for payment and quite frankly I just wanted him to leave. I gave him a check was was the form of payment that was given the last two times by my Caucasian boyfriend, the final check I gave him I'm Hispanic he quickly asked for my drivers license number and explained that he did not trust the check would clear since he has another woman bounce a check. I will never use or recommend them to anyone
Description of Work: They were to repair a Saba radio and turntable. We paid extra to for them to,remove it and ire-install it at our home. I even provided to them a bag full of vintage parts that came with our system in case they needed them.

Service went far better than I had any reason to expect. The young man who initially answered the phone, Jacob, was also the person who took my items. He was very cordial and helpful and did everything possible to assist me. When he called to tell me the stereo was operating properly he indicated they would provide some assistance and a and quot;tutorialand quot; as to what I should do when I put the system back together once I returned home. This was done and the system is working wonderfully. The price was reasonable and the service couldn't have been better.
Description of Work: My stereo receiver had quit providing any sound through the speakers. I took both speakers along with the receiver to Stereo Hospital to be checked. Initial diagnosis was fairly priced. They called me within 5 days to tell me they had the setup working and I picked it up a few days later. Their service included an explanation of what they found and what was done with a little tutorial of what I should be aware of in reinstalling the system once I got it home.

I couldn't be happier with the service. Everything was up and running in a very short time. He was highly professional, took his time explaining everything to me, very polite, and performed excellent work.
Description of Work: Rewired my flat screen T.V. to the power source - receiver. He walked me through everything he was doing and explained, in detail, why. After he did this, he opened the hole, where the wires run to give the system more air-circulation so it wouldn't get hot.

They are incredible. They specialize in repairing any kind of Stereo equipment like needles or anything you need they would probably save it for you. It is inside a music store. They offered good service. They are friendly people, and they also had knowledgeable staff.
Description of Work: I used Stereo Hospital to repair my stereo. It used to just keep falling behind the three disc changers tray, and they took it apart, and repaired it for me, and removed the disc.

They had the unit for a week and called to say that the electronics were no in need of repair but the interior of the receiver was very dusty and the boards were oxidized. They said the cost of cleaning would be a total of $140. This seemed high to me but I agreed to have them do the work. They assured me it would be done in a day. When I picked up the unit, the person who waited on me said he did the work but couldn't give me any specifics on what exactly he did. I noted that the exterior of the unit was still very dusty. Since that was the case, when I got it home I took the cover off and the interior was still filty. The interior was covered with dust. There was a partial hand print from whoever opened it, but there was no evidence anything was done. In fact, dust is very detrimental to electronics and no professional service provider would ever return a componant to a customer in that condition after charging for service. Every time I spoke to the individual at this company I felt like he wasn't being truthful. I believe they plugged it in, it worked and they charged me $140 for doing virtually nothing. I made an attempt to speak to the business owner and did not receive a return phone call. I would not recommend the stereo doctor or stereo hospital to anyone who needs repair on vintage stereo equipment.
Description of Work: Evaluated stereo receiver for any needed repairs. The equipment was decades old and hadn't been used in a long time.

Response from Stereo Hospital
We did try to contact this client throughout this process; he refused to answer any emails or phone calls. We sent him emails offering to refund part of his payments and-or to re-clean the exterior surfaces of his receiver. At no time was the electronic repair an issue; the entire discussion was about surface dust on parts of his receiver that we admitted should have been wiped off while it was in here for fixing. Our thousands of satisfied customers who have dealt with us repeatedly over the last forty years speak for themselves, literally, here and on other local review sites.

I was very statisfied with the service I received.
Description of Work: I had DVD player looked at and a DVD removed that was stuck in the player. On inspection, Stero Doctor staff informed me that the DVD player would cost more to fix than it was worth. Staff also informed me that while they normally charge $40 for estimates, they would only charge me $20.

Stereo Doctor charges $20 to diagnose problems with stereo equipment of all types and prepare repair estimates. If the customer chooses to have the repair done, the $20 is applied to cost of the repair. The CD player in my compact stereo unit was skipping. Stereo Doctor checked it out and determined what parts would be needed to repair it and gave me an estimate. I authorized the repair. When stereo Doctor tried to actually order the part from Sony they discovered it would cost more then the estimate. Rather than proceeding, they let me know what the increased cost would be. The increase tipped the balance from "repair" to "forget it". I appreciated the honesty and consideration of the firm. I cannot vouch for their ability to actually carry out repairs but I would go back to them in the future and I would allow them to carry out the repair if it made financial sense.
Description of Work: At my request, stereo Doctor diagnosed a problem with my Sony compact stereo system and gave me a written repair estimate.
