This company was very responsive and polite. The worker showed up on time and looked at the project. He took some pictures and gave me a time frame for their response on the bid. I received an email with the bid within the week. The bid looked reasonable and we are continuing to look at our options.

Extremely well; not only were the skylights re-caulked, they got cleaned in the process (nice!). The windows all work very well now and are secure. The handyman sent provided some important information about the condition of the roof (which several other contractors visiting the roof to work on the heat pump had not provided).
Description of Work: On the roof, remove and replace cracked and aged caulking from 6 old skylights. Repair a large, metal-framed sliding window and lubricate the tracks so it can open and close. Lubricate the tracks on several other metal-framed sliding windows.

Irrigation system fix: After the freeze, our irrigation system didn't work. The person that Ronnie sent out was punctual and took care of this satisfactorily. Mailbox: I had put a new mailbox in the ground, but it was at a slight angle. The same person straightened it (mostly), that was fine. Bedroom door: We bought an older house which had French doors instead of a regular door, and so the bedroom could not be locked. We wanted to have a new, regular door put in. Since the house is older, the doorway is smaller than the current standard size, and it is not entirely straight (i.e. the angles aren't exactly 90 degrees). The same person was going to put the door in, which was estimated at about 2 hours or so. My wife re-arranged her schedule and took time off work in the morning for this purpose. After over 5 hours, the guy showed my wife the door as though it was done (a "voila" moment). It did not close properly (required significant pushing, it jammed), the door lock did not fall into the hole in the doorframe, and so it did not lock. Furthermore, much to our chagrin, not only did it not actually close or lock properly (which was the whole purpose of this job), but to try and make the door fit into the frame the guy had actually been chipping and shaving away at the doorframe (in addition to the door itself). So now the doorframe was chipped and shaved down (not smoothly either, I might add - chunks were chipped out), and now needed to be painted, too. And all that without even accomplishing the main task! At this point I called Ronnie and told him the situation and that he needed to fix it. Ronnie said they would fix it, and I said that I did not want the same guy this time. Since their office is a bit further away, he said that it would be more expensive to send someone else out since the original guy lived closer to us and therefore would minimize us paying for travel time since he could stop by on the way to or from work. I said that I wasn't planning on paying for this and that he should send someone else out to fix it. He then agreed, and sent someone else out the next day (requiring one of us to take time off work again), who then fixed the door in about 2 hours. It still didn't look quite as straight and tight as we would have liked, but at least it closed and locked properly now. Even though we have very busy lives and very little time, we decided to do the painting ourselves just so as to be done with them. The final invoice had about half taken off for the door job, which we found quite steep still (and we quite annoyed about) but ended up paying because we didn't have the time or energy to make more work of it. The poor job is one thing, but charging us as much as he did after all that was pretty annoying. Needless to say, we won't be using Ronnie's services in the future. On a final note, I do want to mention that the original guy was new with Ronnie, and Ronnie was still trying to find out what types of jobs would be appropriate for him. We liked this guy on a personal level and wanted him to do well and not lose his new job (and he did the irrigation system and mailbox fine). We appreciated about Ronnie that he was giving this guy a chance, and I mentioned to Ronnie that we didn't want him to get in trouble or lose his job, but that hanging doors in older houses may not be his forte. Ronnie seemed to appreciate this feedback and pick more appropriate jobs for him in the future. Just not at our house.
Description of Work: Irrigation system fix. Mailbox straightening. Putting in bedroom door.

Keith came out to review the work and gather information for an estimate, which was provided via email. Keith originally thought that the beam could be repaired by sistering a section, but the owner of the company thought that it would be much better to replace the beam entirely and I concurred. The two man crew was personable and professional and knew what they were doing. Carpentry was excellent. A little pricey at $49 per hour per person, but not unreasonable. I felt we received our money's worth and we have since used them for a much more minor job involving "repair" of a sliding glass door (22 year old Pella). We dealt with Keith again, who was once again very professional in his work and and personnable in demeanor. The door problem was solved quickly with a little candle wax (and I learned something useful for the future). These are good folks to deal with, from the office staff to the workers - professio nal, responsive and punctual .
Description of Work: Replaced a partially rotted 12 ft 10X4 support beam on the carport, which entailed intsalling jacks, removing the old, partially rotted beam and installing a new one.

It was a great experience. See above.
Description of Work: I called to have a leaky sharkbite fixture replaced with a soldered joint. Ronnie told me he would be glad to come out to fix the problem but with copper pipe many people forget to remove the plastic insert in the sharkbite. I was one of those people, and once I removed it, my problem went away. I really appreciate people that are that honest and helpful and you can be sure that when I need handyman services again I will be calling Ronnie.

The return phone call and arrival were in a timely manner. Where the ball got dropped was in the estimating. It took FOREVER to get the estimate. (More than a week.) During that time, I had to call repeatedly to ask the status. It seems that the system of having one person estimate the job, the have someone in the office get the pricing together, then have someone else actually prepare the estimate seemed to slow down the process.
Description of Work: No services were performed. I called another business (not Angie's list) and had the work scheduled and bid and performed in less time than it took to get the bid out of this company!

Response from Ronnies Handyman & Home Service LLC
We were very surprised to see that we had a new report from a customer that we met with almost a year and a half ago. When we saw what the report said we decided to give this customer a call to see why, after so much time, this report was posted. Ronnie called her because we pride ourselves on customer service and thought it would be courteous to speak with her since we were unaware that she was upset with us. When he made contact with her, she immediately got on the defense and said “you’re calling me at my house” like we were threatening her, which we absolutely were not. We simply wanted to speak with her and let her know that we did our best for her. She contacted us on November 18th 2010 for an estimate on some drywall work and installing baseboards. We sent someone over the next day to meet with her and discuss the work she wanted done. This was on a Friday, the Friday before the short & very busy Thanksgiving week. On Monday November 22, 2010 we received the paperwork from our worker regarding the estimate; it was discussed within our office on Tuesday November 23, 2010 and written up. We emailed it on Wednesday morning November 24, 2010 and didn’t hear back from her. On December 01, 2010 we left a message on her phone asking if she considered our estimate, we didn’t hear back from her so we closed our file. Everything was done within a timely manner considering the weekend and holiday that fell within the same time that we met with her.

When Keith came to my house to give me original estimate I asked him if I should buy the lights. He told me they prefered to buy them because they knew which ones would work the best for installation. When they arrived to install the first 6, the lights were too dim for the room. So they had to be taken back and the proper ones purchased. Well, they charged me 3 hours labor for correcting their mistake and tried to say it was my fault even though I had specifically asked if I should buy my own lights. The next day he returned to install the proper size lights which took him 4.75 hours. He left 6 holes in my ceiling which he had cut to run wire. It was 5 days until they came to patch those holes and intall the other 4 lights in the other room which took another 5.25 hours. The labor costs originally estimated to be $450($49/hr.) suddenly was $661.50. They supposedly capped the labor at $600 to appease me BUT the original material cost was estimated at $440 but on the invoice was $540. They also claimed on the invoice that they sanded and painted the patched holes which they did NOT! So I feel completely ripped off and will never use them again nor will I recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: They installed a total of 10 recessed can lights in 2 different rooms.

Response from Ronnies Handyman & Home Service LLC
We pride ourselves on being honest, hardworking and above average in customer service. The estimated time of this job and the cost of materials changed due to extra work and materials that were added by the customer, plus the difficulty in running wire through the ceiling. We do not add any type of percentage increase to materials that we use, they are charged at cost. When the original estimate was given and she asked about purchasing the lights she was informed that it would be okay for her to buy them or we could pick them up since most customers only tend to buy a portion of the can light and not all pieces required for installation. We then looked up the cost of two different types of lights, called her to give her the prices and explain the difference between the two (one being LED can lights; the other 4” recessed can lights). She chose the 4” recessed can lights; brightness of the lights was never discussed. When we arrived the first day for installation we plugged the lights in and she wasn’t happy with the amount of light that they put out so we went back to Home Depot and then to Lowes to find lights with the brightness that she wanted (none of this was charged to her, although it all was chargeable time) This did put a delay in the project, however it was completed within 3 business days (there was a weekend in between) We also installed two dimmer switches which were not part of the original estimate (time nor cost of material) When we billed her, we did state on the invoice that we sanded and painted, however upon further investigation and after discussing it with the guy who did the work we realized that we misread his description on the work order that he turned in and typed it up incorrectly on the bill. It was a mistake within our office that should have said “informed customer to wait until dry, then sand and paint” We are an honest hardworking company that strives to be sure our customers are satisfied with our work and would never take advantage of anyone or “rip them off” By the way, while our lead guy was there working, her dog bit him in his leg leaving marks but he continued working hard to finish the job in a timely manner.

We are extremely happy with the quality of the work, especially the cabinet trimming, which was a touchy job. We will hire Ronnie's again in the future. The area was draped with plastic so that the trimming and sanding did not dust the rest of the kitchen, a nice touch and something I didn't think to ask during the estimate.
Description of Work: Removed a small slice of wood from the trim of kitchen cabinets over the new fridge to allow it to sit correctly in the space. Rehung a drying rack in the laundry room, and installed a sliding rack for the can under the kitchen sink.
