Intelligent Design Air Conditioning, Plumbing, Solar, & Electric

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it worked out okay. The only issue was they came out three hours earlier than my time frame, which I was able to work with but I had to make some adjustments. They sent me an email, but I don't check my emails that often so when I read it it was about  10 p.m. saying they would be here at 7 a.m. the next morning when I thought they would be here between 10 and 11. So, I just had to juggle some things around.

We had three companies come out to give us estimates.  The first spent about 1&1/2 hours with us and did a good job.  The second spent less than 1/2 hour with us and was eliminated  even though they were the lowest price.  Jason from Intelligent Design spent over three hours with us and did a very through job.  All three quoted on the same system units.  While Intelligent Design's cost was a little higher than the other two we believed them to be competitive. We elected to use Intelligent Design because of their professionalism, the efficiency of their audit and their affiliation with TEP.
Tim, Wes, Manny, Jesus and the rest of the crew did the install in one day.  Everything went perfectly. The crew was professional, courteous, respectful of our property and a pleasure to work with.
Jason came by a couple of days after the install to make sure it went OK and reviewed the installation and all of our warranties.

I purchased the service coupon through Angie's List last night. I called this morning and scheduled an appointment between 12 and 1 pm today. Michael called and said he could come earlier. He was great. He showed and explained everything. I had a service agreement with another company and ended up canceling that agreement and have switched my business to Intelligent Design.

It was okay.  They gave me a discount on the cost of the parts if I entered their one year plan.  There were no additional charges apart from the Big Deal amount except for the electrical parts that were replaced and the monthly plan that I signed up for which was $20 a month for a year.  That was probably a mistake because I have got the home owner’s plan that pays if I have problems; I did not need to sign up with him but I did.

It went fine. They were very courteous. I actually ended up with a secondary problem after they came. The timing was not fortuitous but they fixed it promptly. It seemed to work out. Once they fixed the secondary problem that occurred after they came, that was $586. Everything was fine. They came and cleaned it. Then the board blew, I had to have it replaced. The price was fair. I would use them in the future.

The service agent arrived earlier than scheduled and  provided all the services we requested of him.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and it turned out okay. They came in when they were supposed to come in, they checked my system, and fortunately there was nothing wrong with my system, so we didn't need to fix anything. They told me that there was nothing wrong with my system. The deal included putting in freon, but there was nothing wrong with my system, so they didn't need to do anything.

I was very pleased with the company in general.  But the technician that came out, though very nice, seemed overly focused on selling us a maintenance contract.  He seemed unfamiliar with the Angie's List Deal or that we had even purchased it.  He also charged us a little more than he should have.  The company was very nice and promptly fixed the billing mistake, and I have since learned that the technician was let go a while ago.  After he learned about my disappointment with the technician, Andrew offered me a seasonal service from their service manager at no charge, and I now feel comfortable that I got my money's worth and can start fresh next season with the same company. 

Mike made sure everything was working and Andrew came out and did a free energy audit.  We agreed to a  new duct and register installation which should rectify the original air flow problem created by the builders original installer.  Andrew proposed additional air filtration which we are considering.  We are now happy to recommend Intelligent Design for our heating and cooling needs.

Lance was the contact person who coordinated all the services to be performed.  He is very professional and courteous and kept us informed of all aspects of the work being done.  He is obviously an expert in his field, as his knowledge of this subject is amazing and he was able to answer all our questions immediately and without faltering.  All other company personnel we had contact with either in person or on the phone were very friendly, courteous and professional in appearance and conduct.
A full analysis of our heating and air conditioning needs was performed on our 2600 sq ft house that  had been vacant for over 10 years.  I was impressed as to the detail they went through and the many measurements, tests and calculations used to formulate a system suited specifically to our needs.  They presented all our options, from the cheapest to the "latest and greatest" equipment.  They did not pressure us to select anything, they just explained each and every one in thorough detail and left it up to my wife and I to select the system and options we wanted.
All work was conducted in a very timely manner, built around our schedule.  All workers cleaned up the area every day before they left.  We opted for the best system available, and are extremely happy with what we received.
We had only one issue (if you can even call it that), and that was with the routing of the external electrical lines for the mini-split system.  There was nothing wrong with the way they ran the lines, I just wanted them run around in a different direction.  One call was all it took for them to cheerfully come out and reroute the lines without question.  They were truly concerned that we were completely happy with the whole process and all of the work done.
It is a great and rare experience to work with a company that truly places the customer first above all, and Intelligent Design is undoubtably the best company I have ever dealt with in the past 40 years in this regard.  The quality of their work and of their personnel is unsurpassed!

It went well, no surprises or attempt to sell additional services.

Work was done on the day scheduled.  All messes created by the installation were cleaned up and property was left as it had been prior to the work.  Although insulation coating of the ductwork was not included in the cost (we couldn't afford the additional cost) this was done anyway.  This was a very nice gesture on Intelligent Design's part.  The salesman (Andrew) called us after the installation was complete to find out if the installation was completed to our satisfaction and ask if we had any questions or concerns.

It turned out just fine. They just did a service on my old AC unit. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. He was there on time. I ended up having to replace it after a while and I went to a different company.

I only give a C rating as I provided my credit card which was written down on paper instead of run electronically.  2 days later the card had been duplicated and was being used in Maryland.  Could be coincidence but I don't believe in them.  The service was good.

He was very thorough and I appreciated that.  He explained in detail what he did and the options that we had.

The unit, though about 13 yrs old, is still working well and refrigerant wasn't needed. Joel gave me information for what to look for eg if refrigerant or a change in the system are required. I had a number of questions he answered, and he said he thinks it's important the customer learn about their units, be educated, something I appreciate. I also appreciated not feeling pressured to consider or purchase a new unit, particularly if not needed (!) Overall good experience.

Joel, the service technician, came, introduced himself, explained what he would do, went about doing it, showed us his work when finished explaining to us certain aspects to be aware of, what his company had to offer in the way of types of service contracts, suggested service intervals, possible upgrades to improve life and service of the unit, and asked if there were any questions. Very professional and cordial, and a good representative of his company. It was evident he understood his trade and performed in it very well. I highly recommend Intelligent Design Air Conditioning and Heating, and Joel as an excellent service tech who takes pride in his trade and ability.

He came out on time and was courteous. Basic tune-up service on both air conditioners (heat pump style) was fine. I told him that I had an intermitent problem that one of the air conditioners did not turn off. He popped off the corresponding thermostat and the air conditioner turned off, so he said the thermostat was bad. I bought 2 new thermostats and installed them. The one system still worked fine and the problematic system did too. But after a couple of weeks the intermitent problem came back on the problematic system just like before. So I wasted $300 buying 2 new thermostats and still have the exact problem on the one system. Now I probably will have to have someone else come out and trouble shoot the problem.

Update: These guys do care about pleasing their customers. Free of charge, they sent Michael out on 9/23/2013 to trouble shoot the problem with the master bedroom side air conditiner/fan not turning off. Michael trouble shot for over 1.5 hours with me and did come to my conclusion that the thermostat(s) are not the problem. He did get the faulty air conditioner to shut off by resetting my new thermostats to the factory settings and switching the two thermostat plates. We agreed that this was a temporary fix since each theremostat works OK for a period of time after being connected to the faulty air conditioner. Michael was really I nice guy and took his time working on the problem. He concluded that the problem is most likely a stuck relay at the air conditioner. He could not fix it that day since he did not have the part with him as his truck was in an auto shop. We agreed that I would monitor the situation and that he could come out with the part if and when the symptoms come back. Sure enough the problem started again about 2 hours after he left, so it lucks like the problem air conditioner will need more work. I really do appreciate this company's persistance though.

Overall appt went fine. Tech was late and we didn't get a call. Had to call the office to track him down, but ended up only being about 20min late,although it had been storming. Office staff was very polite and got an appt quickly. Tech was ok, not the most professional or personable.
Follow up call about the visit and customer service after the fact was great and appreciated.
