Intelligent Design Air Conditioning, Plumbing, Solar, & Electric

We had Intelligent Design install a new HVAC unit, a new hot water tank, seal our ducts, install an air purifier-UV light system on the furnace and add 2 air returns. They did the work in one day which meant I was not without hot water, A/C, etc. for very long. We had Jesus and Jorge installing, with Raymond sealing the ducts. These men were wonderful. I?ve never had such a polite, considerate, no-nonsense, gracious group of men working in my house before. They were very punctual, very clean, smiling and helpful with any questions I had. I?ve had Jesus along with Dean back twice because we later purchased new registers. They installed and adjusted them to balance the air flow throughout the entire house. I am so satisfied with this company, that we are now hiring their plumbing dept. to fix some plumbing issues we have. Thank you so much, Andrew, Zack, Jesus, Jorge, Raymond and Dean. You are the greatest.

Eric came out today and diagnosed a problem with the pressure switch. It went well. Very professional.

My experience was they did an OK job but nothing to rave about. They were certainly much better than the horrible experience I had last year with the arrogant and super-expensive Aranda Air [which led me to file a BBB complaint against Aranda Air]. I had angies list service deal that cost sixty dollars. Mike checked out the ac unit on the roof and topped off the freon. but he did not check the equipment inside the house other than the thermostat control, which is a very basic unit and has nothing wrong with it

Discovered 3 leaking capacitors and wanted around $600 to replace them plus a $1,200 service contract. Had another technician replace two capacitors (the third one did not need it) at a cost of $80 including the service call. Intelligent Design did not show up one day, wanted to show up at 9 pm the next day which I declined so I scheduled again for a week later when they were only 45 minutes late.

It went really well. They seemed to know about their business and were pretty professional. They were pretty experienced with regards to scheduling me. Knowledge, professionalism with the service regards to how quickly they were able to take care of everything stood out.

I was impressed with the professionalism and courtesy of Efrain, the service tech. There was a miscommunication when we initially spoke about replacing the thermostat, and I was initially unhappy when I saw the product I received. He was very helpful in resolving the issue to my satisfaction (even though the miscommunication may have been my fault) and I was pleased with the service. I will use Intelligent Design again.

Update Jan 2015 When the original service happened, I was in the 3rd year of grad school, working full time, and had two kids under 3. So I was not that most emotional stable person. I should have called and got this all figured out then rather than resent and stew for months. The day after I posted my review the owner of the company, Andrew, gave me a call. Nice guy and very worried that his company failed at providing great customer service. He wanted to come over to the house and assess the HVAC system with me to regain my trust. I sold the house already so that was not an option. He refunded me for the dye pack and apologized for any misunderstanding that resulted from miscommunications within his company. I would highly recommend this company and urge you to call if there is anything that you have questions or concerns about. *******May 20014******* It was so bad I had to wait almost a year to write a review so as to not get angry. The tech that did the job was great. He noted that the system had lost rerigerant but could not find any issues, he completed the tune up. He suggested that a dye pack be used to find the leak, we agreed and he noted that he was going on vacation and would not be back to check. He stated that another tech would be out to check the system. No one came out. We called to have a tech come out. Instead a salesman in a suit came out- he did not look at HVAC system but proceded to give us an estimate to replace the system and asked us to schedule the replacement.. I asked him to leave. Called again and asked for my money back for the dye kit since they did use to investigate the leak. The company sent out another tech who went up into the attic without a black light and told us that there was a massive leak up there and told us that we should have the whole system replaced. I nodded my head, thank him, and showed him to the door. Two days later we called another company that came out and found a leak on a $15 fixture ouside by the compressor. $55 later we had a repaired and recharged air condition system was working until for the rest of our time at that house.

We purchased the Home Energy Audit deal because we needed to get someone to our 31 year old house to figure out why the heater was constantly turning on and off and why there were cold spots in some rooms. We knew that we would have to spend some money to fix the problems and hired Intelligent Design because of their reviews on here and other sites, as well as on a local radio station. Jason came out to our house on a Saturday and was very prompt. He spent about 30 minutes in the attic documenting problems, such as spots missing insulation and deteriorating vent ducting. The deteriorating vent ducting and lack of insulation in certain spots answered the question about why certain rooms were colder than others. He performed the blower door test and confirmed that certain rooms were colder than others. After running all of the numbers, he presented ideas to fix the problems. We chose to have them: Remove all of the old insulation and replace with blown-in insulation to a value of R-38 Remove all vent ducting and replace with balanced system with downdraft vents instead of side draft Remove and replace the 16 year old heating and cooling system with a Lennox variable speed system. All of the work crews did a fantastic job. They were courteous, professional and very skilled at what they do. When you consider everything that was done, the price was reasonable. I would highly recommend Intelligent Design. Now for the facts: Prior to all of the work being done and the overnight low was in the low to mid-40s: The heater was set to 58 at night and 64 at 4:30am. The heater would run for 15 minutes, and only stay off for 10 - 12 minutes. Some rooms would still be cold. After all of the work has been done and the overnight low is in the low to mid-40s: The heater is set to 58 at night and 64 at 4:30am. The heater did not come on at all. The temperature in the house at 5am was 67 degrees. Had we not done any of this work, we would have been facing $400+ electric bills in the summer without a pool. Furthermore, our gas bill last month was $90. I will update this post after our next bill, but all in all: Intelligent Design knows what they are doing. Hire them to come to your house and perform an energy audit and/or to upgrade part or all of your system. You will NOT regret it.

The technician was wonderful and the service excellent.

We started working with them last summer when our AC went out when we were out of town. We found them on Angie's list and they were out within 2 hours. It was wonderful. They worked with us over the phone and through our house sitter. The problem was fixed while the tech was there. We signed up for the service plan at that time and also signed up our mother. AC is so important in Tucson that we want to be sure that we keep this unit going and get as much life out of it as possible. I'm confident that the techs at Intelligent Design will do a good job.

They were good. They did a general tune-up of our furnace, which is connected to our A/C unit. The scheduling went fine. I was satisfied with the service.

He gave great advice and great service

I was very satisfied. They gave me a lot of information that was helpful. Now I know how to make my house more efficient.

They showed up on time and were very friendly and helpful and even laughed at my jokes. One was doing the job and the other, Jennifer, was doing on the job training. They examined the closet where the furnace/A/C are located and tested for gas leaks and answered several questions I had very well. There answers will make my personal maintenance of the unit easier in the future. They left , at my request, information about signing up for their semi annual service. I was completely happy with the results of the service call and the people who made it. I may sign up with their company for future maintenance.

All work went as planned except for some minor follow-up. Price was on the high side but made up for by the excellent work performed. All the workers were professional in appearance and conduct. System has been in now for three months and was inspected today by Neal in a friendly and professional manner. These folks know their business and how to please the customer. I highly recommend them to my friends and family.

Our experience from start to finish was great! As I mentioned above, the reason for the call was because the smoke detectors went off the first time we turned on the heat. We had saved this company in our "favorites"because Angie's List is the only way we find our providers, but we did not realize in saving this company that we would need them so soon after moving in!! After the smoke detectors stopped going off, we called the office and spoke with a very nice gentleman who seemed very concerned about our predicament, and said he could get someone out to our home that same day, but it would be late. He said it would be between 4pm and 7pm. Well, we got a call from Eric around 3:30pm that said he was on his way and would be at our home by 4pm. Wow....that is service we thought. We were both happy and relieved that the professionals were on the way!! Eric arrived and was VERY professional and courteous. He is the Field Manager and we felt very comfortable with him right from the beginning! He quickly got to work and diagnosed the problem. Every step of the way he informed us what he was going to do and why he was doing it. We appreciated that because he needed to turn the heat back and on and the smoke detectors did need to go off again before the issue could be fixed. But it was fixed soon after he arrived. He then took time to review our current units and go over the maintenance plan with us. We were impressed with everything the service plan offered and signed up on the spot. Our A/C units are fairly new and we have always taken good care of them in all of our homes and want to make sure these units last as long as possible too. We know that between our monthly maintenance of cleaning the coils and replacing the filter along with the 3x a year maintenance with this company we should be great! We liked that this company does it ALL.........solar, plumbing, HVAC, duct cleaning, etc........Our one stop shop! We are happy that we have now established a great relationship with a like-minded company who we know will be there when we need them. Before Eric left he told us we could call him anytime with any questions and not to hesitate. We know a lot of providers just say that..............but we truly felt he meant it. Thanks for everything Eric.......we appreciate you in coming out so quickly and taking care of us!

What they did (see above) went very well

Efrain arrived early which was great. Inspected units, explained things in detail and helped me come to a decision on the best route to take.Overall I was very pleased with the honesty and service.

I received a call today from the owner, Andrew. He apologized for not returning my call earlier and told my why it was delayed. He was very professional, knowledgeable and extremely polite. He soothed my ruffled feathers and answered my questions succinctly. We now have an appointment next week to review what he can offer us and explain their system to us. I am looking forward to our meeting and finding out more about the 30% tax credit and a unit 1/3% more efficient. I will review again after the meeting.

The technician Neal Maxwell arrived on time, explained what he would be doing on the service call and immediately started working. Mr Maxwell was professional, efficient and cordial. He was unable to complete the service call because of a problem with the supplier regarding a special filter. He verified when the filter would be available and scheduled a new appt. Mr. Maxwell was again timely on the subsequent service call and took only a few minutes to complete his work. We are very pleased with the work and the friendly, professional manner of the service technician.

I asked for an estimate, but all I got was a very casual visit by an employee, who "quoted" me a crazy expensive price, ($12 to 14K) then told me that I would need to re-do my electrical box (quoted that would be another $2000.) He left and never did send me an estimate, but he did talk alot about personal and family matters. I ended up hiring a different and great company that did the entire job, plus a new furnace for less than $7300. No I would not hire them in the future.

Arrived on time. Professional. Installation went as estimated. Creative in placement of new thermostat.

Came into town on a Saturday after an absence. AC (overhead in condo) was working but leaking profusely. Initial contact was Saturday (by chance vehicle was in complex servicing another unit). Company rep came out Monday to give estimate. Once we decided to use ID AC&H, they were out the next day. Repaired and updated unit promptly.

We feel like it was deceptive advertising and won't use them again.
