Description of Work: I've had EMMCO do several things for me during the years around HVAC heating/cooling maintenance, diagnosis, improvements, and repairs. Ed, the owner, has always come and done an excellent job. He appears to me as open, honest, pragmatic, and overall interested in doing the right thing for the customer. I have a home warranty and I wish EMMCO was one of their providers as I've had to use EMMCO to fix the mistakes made by the home warranty vendor. I'd highly recommend EMMCO.

Description of Work: Emmco previously installed a Rinnai tankless water heater approximately 4 years ago. I called them back to do manufacturer-recommended service and to repair a small, seeping leak in the copper tubing that was part of the initial installation. Results: |1) Technician said they have had problems following manufacturer-recommended maintenance so they only do it if there is a demonstrated problem. Based on that statement, I understood that he was not going to do maintenance. |2) Technician repaired seeping leak at joint they had previously installed. My understanding was that he was repairing a defect in the previous workmanship. | |Outcome and additional information: |1) I was not given, nor did I sign, a cost estimate before service or bill at the time of service. None was presented. No costs or charges were described. Therefore, I believed that a) Rinnai-recommended maintenance was not performed and b) there would be no charge to repair a defective joint done during the original installation. |2) Approximately 30 days later I received a bill in the mail for standard maintenance and repair of a leaking joint. I contacted the company and had several email interchanges with the owner/technician who explained that a) he did some maintenance on the heater altho not that recommended by Rinnai and b) the leaking joint was not considered defective workmanship since too much time had passed since the original installation. I shared with him my observations outlined above and noted again that he did not discuss costs or provide a bill at the time of service. Although Emmco is not a member of the Better Business Bureau, I also copied the relevant sections from the BBB Code of Business Practices as an example of commonly accepted practices, see below, describing full disclosure of all costs of the transaction. Emmco did not address this in subsequent communication nor did they claim costs were disclosed nor a bill presented at time of service. |3) I acknowledged that some services had been performed and that there was clearly a misunderstanding about services provided and charges. Therefore, I agreed to pay half of the billed amount as fair resolution to our dispute. This offer was refused and he said if I did not pay the billed amount, Emmco would not do business with me in the future. Given the lack of satisfactory resolution, this was the option I chose. |4) I subsequently learned from another Rinnai-authorized plumber (Pioneer Plumbing) that Rinnai recommends installation of a tank flush system--which was not installed on my tankless heater--and annual chemical flushing service to clean and remove deposits from coils to insure effective and efficient operation.
