Don't have time to tell from start to finish, but one thing I remember is that he forgot a few tools and had to borrow my husband's tools, and then of course I was worried that he would forget and take off with them - nothing intentional on his part, just flakiness that was annoying...
Description of Work: The deal advertised was for a 27-point garage door check up with all new rollers for $99. Yes, he came and installed new rollers for $99, but like with all businesses these days, they just seem to be "in the game" so they can upsell. Sure enough, the guy convinced me that we really needed new cables too and they could break "anyday" - so, out of paranoia I purchased that too. Ended up from a $99 service call, spending over $300. Have never had a problem with our garage door, now even with the new cables there seems to be a sudden loud crack sound when the door opens and shuts - like the solution to one problem created another...

closerAlthough the major problem of the door not closing more than ~75% was fixed I was quite taken by the project's cost (which I knew after he presented me with an estimate). Too bad we homeowners don't have foreknowledge of the problems by having watched a video or some such. But my being clueless here is not excusable. On the other hand he had to max out the limiter adjustment which controls the maximum down force the door can exert to get it to close which results in an unsafe condition with respect to a child possibly being crushed; but we rarely have kids in the neighborhood. To fully solve the problem I would have to invest in a new door closer.
Description of Work: Rollers were replaced with quieter type. Spring end bearings replaced. Approx time spent on the job 1.5 hrs.

The work was performed efficiently and quickly, and our technician was very knowledgeable. He was also able to fix a slight problem from an installation mistake that we didn't know about. He took the time to go over everything and explain things to me, and I was impressed with his customer service. Our garage door has been working smoothly ever since, and it's been about a year. The rollers didn't make a huge difference in the noise, but it helped a little. I don't think rollers would have any effect on the noisy door itself and the noisy opener, so the rollers helped as much as they could. The door does move a lot more smoothly now.

On 11/11/12 James called me and inquired as to whether he could come earlier than originally scheduled and so he did by about 30 minutes. He observed the operation of my garage door and made his recommendations for further upgrades. He explained what he was recommending and demonstrated how it could improve the operation of my garage door opener. He completed all of the work and cleaned up after himself. He even changed a light bulb in my opener at no extra charge. The only negative I have to report is that the work was originally set up to be done three weeks before, however I was called 20 minutes after the designated appointment time and informed that the technician would be another 45 minutes late. I had to decline the service that day as I needed to be somewhere else at that time. I felt the technician should have called me before the end of the appointment time window. The cost of the extra work was probably in line with the industry standard, it's just more than I was expecting. I always think things are overpriced whether they really are or not and would be happier paying less. I greatly appreciate this company's willingness to complete this work on the weekend.

Signed up with Angie's Big Deal coupon on 10/9/2012. Got a call that same day and set up appointment for the next day. Tech shows up on time and starts service. He seems knowledgeable and professional and starts servicing the garage door. Everything seems to be going well until he tries adjusting the tension on my Wayne Dalton tension springs. As I'm watching him adjust the tension there's a loud bang and I'm thinking...that can't be good. Well sure enough, the tension springs I had replaced 2 years ago were now busted again. They would have to be replaced and that sounded like big bucks. The tech and local store manager and I all deliberated over an equitable solution to the broken spring problem. Finally the broken springs were replaced at cost. I think this was the most equitable agreement possible given the circumstances and displayed a high degree of professionalism. Sometimes, despite the best intentions, things go wrong. When that happens, you've got to suck it up and make it right. My hat's off to Precision Garage Door for making it right!

It went great! Rollers replaced on both doors, inspection complete. The large door had orginal equipment (1998) from the builder and was 50 lbs heavier due to the insulation kits we installed. Opted to have a complete overhaul of door, the price of the Big Deal was taken off of the overhaul. Replaced the winding, wires, end bearings, center braket, as well as removed the center bushing and replaced it with a bearing and replacing the single inadequate single spring with 2 springs.
Description of Work: We added an insulation kits to our 1998 2 car and 1 car garage doors a couple of weeks ago. Before adding the insulation the large door was making lots of noise and shaking during operation. I bought a Big Deal ($99 each) for inspection and roller replacement on each door. During installation, more issues where found on the big door and it needed a complete overhaul. Price is Big Deal on small door ($99) and complete overhaul on large doors.

"JD" called, came early and did complete inspection. We discussed options and first replaced the rollers, when this did not "quiet and smooth" the operation, I decided to go ahead with complete re-build. He did the work and went thru each step with me.
Description of Work: Garage door hardware was very old, noisy and door did not perform smoothly. Inspection revealed one cable frayed and one set of bearings were shot. I decided to do a complete re-build. Work was performed in ~2 hrs. Coupled with AList Best Buy on the rollers, I saved some $ and now am happy with the door operation.

Very Prompt, Responsible and Professional. Except for price it was an overall good experience. The technician indicated it would be a charge of 189$ plus some parts. I agreed as the property in question was a rental and the occupants belongings were exposed to possible theft. In the end the technician spent 1 hr, replaced a guide rail and reset an up limiter that had cause the door to go off track. I was expecting a final cost in the low $200s but the bill was $271. One hour on-site plus parts seemed high as the parts were standard guide rails.
Description of Work: Garage door had come off rails. One of the bottom rails had to be replaced. The door re-installed and the up-door limiter reset to avoid excess slack in the cable that cause the door to come off.

My garage door would not open. I saw that a cable was broken and called Precision Door Service. An appointment was set up for the next day. The appointment was for between 2 - 4 pm. Just before noon John called to let me know he was running early and would it be ok to come about 1 pm. I happily agreed. When he arrived he thoroughly inspected the door and then told me my options. Apparently the spring had broken which explained the loud crash I heard the day before but saw nothing to explain it. He pointed out some other potential problems and told me he could do a complete overhaul within an hour. I opted for a complete overhaul. The equipment was nearly 20 years old and I felt fixing one part would not give me peace of mind. John was very easy to talk to. He was courteous and professional. He explained everything he was going to do, what he found and what my options were. I will not hesitate to use the services of Professional Garage Door Service again.

Left nothing behind but a job well done. Highly recommend.
Description of Work: Our garage door sounded like a train wreck. I am sure it woke up people in the neighborhood every time I opened it in the morning. He called ahead as promised. Showed up on time. The door had problems opening from the start. and now one of the glide brackets is broken. Just had a Precision technician out to service opener through AHS (I would never had called Precision because of the earlier difficulties). He took one look and said that the brackets for this double wooden garage door were too small to handle such a load and that they were single door brackets. When I told him the door was installed by Precision, he back pedaled and said that there are new solutions now that were not available in 2003. This door was a double wooden garage door since the house was built in 1966. It is not a new concept that a double door needs a bigger, stronger bracket than a single door. This expensive installation was never right as confirmed by Precision's own techinician. I don't expect miracles after 7 years, but feel that since it was an admitted improper installation with a history of problems, they should make it right. They only offered a $50 discount to replace the wrong brackets for the right ones, or I could pay $60 to have another wrong one installed. I will not be paying them to do anything.
Description of Work: I bought a new wooden garage door from Precision in 2003, which they installed. This was an expensive door.

Two repairmen showed up on the tail end of a two hour window. I showed them the garage doors and opened and closed them so they could hear the noises they make. They told me there was nothing they could do; most likely the motors were going out. They left 15 minutes later with $40 of my money. I wish they would have done a little more diagnostics over the phone before coming out. I potentially could have saved $40. I realize they are a business and need to make some money when they make house calls, but I still feel ripped off. The guys were pretty professional I suppose. I would have liked a complimentary visit with the hopes of securing me as a customer when my garage doors finally do quit on me. I would have definitely used them if that was the case. Instead Im out $40 and will probably find another company when I need work in the future.

A spring on my garage door broke. I have a heavy door with four, 4" springs. With the broken spring I could not get the door open. I called Precision and someone came out on Saturday. Over the phone I got an estimate of $180 to replace a broken spring. When the guy came out he refused to replace the single spring and told me I would have to get all four springs replaced for $800 because it was too dangerous to replace a single spring. I refused to accept this explanation and asked the technician to help me raise the door to get the car out and then we lowered it back down. I paid for the trip out ($40) and he left. I called another company, Cressy. I gave them the dimensions over the phone and a guy came out the next day and replaced the broken spring. He told me that he could have put a temporary clamp on the broken spring to allow the door to work until he came back with the replacement spring. He also said that there was no problem replacing one spring.
Description of Work: I wanted them to repair a broken spring. They came out and then they wouldn't do it. I ended up paying $39.00 plus tax for the guy to help me open the door so I could get the car out.

Response from Elite Garage Doors & Gates
We are sorry this customer was not pleased with our service. Garage door springs are used to lift the garage door and are rated for a specific range of opening and closing cycles. When a spring breaks it is an indication that it is/was at the end of it's useful lifespan. Replacement of all springs at that time is an industry standard as the remaining springs have had the same amount of use as the broken one. Replacing a single spring will get the door working, however - the others are ready to break - meaning additional trips, service calls and potential damage to the system. Again, let us apologize for not making this explanation clearer at the time of your repair.

I had a service call. They could have explained the charges more thoroughly over the phone. They added fuel surcharge to the bill when they arrived. They eventually waived the fuel surcharge, but included the service call. He stated that in order to honor the 15 percent off AL discount that would have to add the service charge. This pricing seems very confusing and like they are trying at all costs to avoid the discount. I have contacted the company and they said they will either honor the 15 percent off of the work or they will waive the service charge, not both.
