DECKS & THINGS

Bob and his team are amazing. We had been looking for someone to rebuild our deck and keep our roof. Bob took on the challenge and went above and beyond our expectations!! Bob started the project promptly and was finished when he said he would be. The quality of his work is exceptional and he takes his time with the little details.

Bob and his son did a great job building a small deck at our home. Their price was fair, they started before originally scheduled, and got the job done in a timely manner. They were professional and we are very happy with the quality of work and the end result.

The folks at Decks and Things just demolished my old deck and built a new and slightly larger one. The new deck is elevated and is about 12 x 24. They did and outstanding job from beginning to end and were a joy to work with. They consistently exceeded my expectations on all aspects of the job. I would recommend them without reservation!!

[Viga and viga-tail repair category not offered, but "decks & porches" is the closest I could come--this was one of the "Things" of "Decks & Things"] Before we bought our house a year and a half ago the inspector told us that some of the vigas might need to be repaired. Boy, was he right! The previous owner had concealed dry rot and termite damage by concealing the damage with roof coating and paint--the vigas looked great from the ground, but most were punky and disintegrating. Because we had no idea of how much work would be needed, I did not seek, or require, an estimate or competitive bid (Bob had done great work for us before). Knowing that he has a great work ethic, we agreed that the job would be time and materials--something I'm sure that Bob is delighted with, now that the job has been finished. For three weeks Bob DeNigris and Monty worked daily, sometimes aided by Bob's son Bobby (and friendly dog Inuk), to saw off about 52 through-the-wall vigas, plus another dozen or so that we just ornamental viga "tails" that did not extend into the interior of the house (requiring working through the inside walls to avoid exterior stucco damage). The cut ends were sanded, filled, and sealed, and brand new viga tails were screwed on: fully painted, each with a custom fabricated stainless steel half-circle cover to protect them from the elements (the original project was just to fabricate and install the covers, but soon became a major replacement undertaking after we discovered the poor condition of the existing vigas). Bob and his crew always arrived on time, kept us informed of their schedule and progress, frequently consulted with us on design and finish issues, and left the area spotless each day. The project was a delight to watch. Bob measured each of the vigas to be replaced (these were actual timbers, knots and all, that had not been milled), then special ordered rough-hewn timbers that he trucked to the site, where he cut them into individual viga-tails to match the diameter and length of the tails being replaced.

Decks & Things did an excellent job. Of the five or six estimates I obtained, Bob De Nigris offered the best combination of competence and price. He communicated well, kept his appointments, inspired confidence in his expertise, did great work ahead of schedule, and cleaned up when he was finished. I will gladly work with Decks & Things again.

It went great! Bob DeNigris visited the site, ascertained our desires, discussed design alternatives and materials, took measurements, and took a paint sample for color-matching. Six days later Bob returned with drawings for our approval (he had attended architecture school), and six days after that he returned with pre-painted wood and welded-wire fencing, set up his saw and went to work. Construction was completed three days after it commenced. Over the weekend we decided that the gate, installed to allow access from outside the house, would not allow emergency egress from the house if the gate were locked. So we e-mailed Bob to explain our concerns, and the next workday he returned: we reversed the gate and latch arrangement, and we're now very happy campers. And no extra charge! And the cats love it: they explore it during the day, and one of them has already taken to spending the night in the Catio, curled up on a pad.

The job went very well. Bob was very easy to work with, knowledgeable, courteous and professional (as was everyone that worked on this project). Bob did a wonderful job up front working on a design with us and explaining his vision; then during construction overcoming the little obstacles that always pop up with the potential to derail that design. The ramada is beautiful and everything was completed in a quality and timely manner as promised and in budget. Bob and his crew are absolute pros and we would highly recommend them.

I made a mistake and reviewed the wrong company...

The project went extremely well. Bob and his team arrived at the time they said they would each day and completed the work quickly and professionally. They were friendly and knowledgeable. We are very happy with the finished project. I would definitely use this company again.

The quote was given in a professional manner. The work was done per schedule, and the cleanup was complete. Overall, we are very happy with the work. The deck now looks brand new, even though he was able to use the structure that already existed.

A previous remodel by someone else several years ago had left one section of the house without an adequate extended eves to match the rest of the house. Ever since that time it had been an eyesore which none of the many workmen and others ever had a reasonable solution for. Matching the exposed beams and roofline presented a problem that others could not remedy. Recommended by a landscape architect for his design instincts and craftsmanship, Bob Nigiris (sp) presented a solution that immediately rang true, and I told them to go ahead. Bob and his son started in a couple of days and worked steadily until the job was completely finished. Constructed of high quality materials, the result seamlessly matches the rest of the house, perfect in structure and appearance. The house is whole again.

The work was completed quickly and it is a very well built deck. It is lower than I wanted, and in grey, and the only composite part is the floor of the deck itself, There were reasons for everything that was done and I agreed to them one by one, not realizing till the work was done that it wasn't my deck, it was the contractor's deck. As I said, it is a very well built deck, just not what I really wanted. Apparently grey is the only color he works with, and the only composite material he uses is for the floor of the deck itself, everything else is wood, and the deck is at the minimum height of a range that I was given. I should have insisted on the upper range, but I did not. The work is very good, and it was done quickly. Just be sure you get a diagram with all measurements, materials, color, etc., and work out any discrepancies between that and what you as the customer want before work is begun.

Bob was very familiar with the construction of the and quot;rocksand quot; which were essentially hollow, with wire frames that held the thin coating of hard material which had begun to crack and break in several areas. He removed the tops of several and quot;rocksand quot;, filled them with concrete, and replaced/repaired/repainted them. There has been no additional cracking. He was very neat and got the job done within a few days.

They were okay. We have used them before they had done our ramada so we always had our little issues with them. We may probably not them in the future.

We had been wanting to get our front deck redone with composite material. We had several bids that were outrageous and the other bidders weren't willing to do what we asked. Bob worked with us, discussed options and did a wonderful job of the composite deck as well as another deck that needed repainting. He had great ideas and the deck looks so much better than we ever imagined. He has also come back and done some other 'maintenance' work for us and we plan on having him back for other projects. He was always on time, cleaned up every day, didn't damage anything around where he was working and is very respectful!! We are willing to move forward on other projects we were afraid to pursue before we worked with Bob!

Bob came out and assessed the job I was wanting done. We agreed on the goals and objectives and he promptly provided an estimate. Upon my acceptance he provided me a sketch to submit to the HOA. We were in a holding pattern awaiting on the approval but after receiving the approval we agreed upon start and completion dates. The work was completed in a timely manner and we are very pleased with how the project turned out. We have had some real hummdinger rains and there is no leaking. As mentioned by others, Bob and crew left the work area very neat at the end of each day. We did not feel as if we lived in a construction zone. I would highly recommend Bob for a job such as this. It went just as planned, very happy with the end product and the price.

I liked the fact that they cleaned up every day, there was no garbage left around. The result looks good. It was expensive but it was good.

I called four deck builders and he was the only one who even responded.

They prepared a detailed plan for the patio cover and discussed with us all of the details. Then then constructed a very nice patio cover for the deck that had been poured before. They were prompt and completed the job in a very professional way.

The owner Robert De Nigris came out and spent quite a long time (well over an hour) going over details of what needed to be done to enclose my patio with perforated metal and security wrought iron to keep out mosquitoes as well as intruders. He was very friendly and polite, and spent a lot of time just chatting. So I was surprised when I still had not received any estimate from him by two weeks later, so I called and left him a message asking for an estimate. He has never returned my call, and It has now been more than a month.

The project went smoothly and there were no problems.

What a craftsman! Totally dedicated to both artistic and structural integrity...gives 110%, much on his own time. Extremely neat and conscientious. An expert in several fields: general construction, decks, artificial rock and water features, patios...and almost anything else!!!!! Very highly recommend for all projects. Also, reliable re: time work will be started and completed.

It went well. The work was done quickly and within a week. They transformed the backyard, which was nothing but dirt, to looking great with concrete and an area for gardening. Now we are able to go out to the backyard and spend time outdoors.
