"Thank you!"
"Dear Mr.[Member Name Removed], We thank you for sharing your experience with our company but we need to explain a couple of things which will clarify the estimate you received. The estimator, Randy, informed me that there are factors beyond the square footage which increased the necessary size of equipment capacity to 37,500 BTU. This calculation placed your home at needing a 3.5 ton system for adequate cooling. Some of these factors included: six clear 2' by 4' roof skylights, only six inches of ceiling insulation, and a slump block home with no insulation. The 27,500 figure you reference was actually the "sensible cooling capacity" which is the number that we reach by multiplying the equipment's BTU by a designated multiplier. These multiplier and BTU numbers vary based on the equipment's SEER and type (heat pump, gas split, etc.). But rest assured the 27,500 number is not the BTU. Based on Randy's calculations in order to get to the necessary sensible cooling capacity number your home needed a system with 37,500 BTUs. I hope this helps explain the difference. After 37 years in the industry Randy was not leading you astray. Based on the above information you were presented with 3.5 ton and 4 ton equipment based on their SEER rating and the various multipliers resulting in at least a 27,500 sensible cooling capacity. We also offered top of the line equipment. After 56 years in the business we must be confident standing behind the equipment we present to customers and we try to sell the best. We also have a complete service department to ensure that our customer's equipment is properly maintained. This ensures that their manufacturers' warranties are maintained. Unfortunately, there are many companies that will install new equipment but will not provide service. This is a large overhead cost that their pricing does not account for. Again thank you for bringing this to our attention, and if you have any other questions please contact me at your convenience. Sincerely, Phillip Robles General Manager D&H Air Conditioning & Heating Company, Inc. 520-408-2665"
The installation was very professional. They arrived early, removed the old units, and had the new units up and running by mid-afternoon. The 2-person team was conscientious about their work and every was installed cleanly. They even resealed an adjacent old evaporative cooler duct that had corroded and was leaky. However, our brand-new system could not keep up with the 110F temp over the weekend -- despite running nearly full time, the house went from 72 to 78 each day. To the credit of D&H, when I called on Monday, they had someone over within an hour to check on the system. He tested and believed the unit was underfilled with Puron at the factory plus the ~25ft line run from the external unit to the internal unit. Thus, my only issue is that they did not thoroughly check the amount of Puron in the installed unit on Friday. I have been happy with the unit since.
"Thank your for your feed back. We strive to get is right the first time, but we will always address your concerns promptly and find the solutions to get you cooling as quickly as possible."
We have used D&H for over 15 years for HVAC maintenance. In addition, four years ago we purchased two Lenox HVAC systems from them for our home. The systems are efficient, quiet and very effective. Rene has been our service tech for over ten years and he is professional, knowledgeable and pro-active. He takes care of us very well and makes recommendations when appropriate. We plan to remain on their annual maintenance service for as long as we own this home.
