This really was a poor service. Not only were the jobs not done, but, provider had a very poor attitude. He was rude, ill-mannered, and condescending. A very unprofessional representation. Subsequently, we called another computer repair professional. He came over, un-did what the first guy did, restored and scanned for virus. He found over 200 viruses...the day after we got it back from Blue Chip!!!! He was prompt, professional, and courteous. He is now on our speed dial. Shame on Blue Chip. Not only will I never use their service, I will tell every person I know my story.
Description of Work: Removed Windows 8 and scanned for virus. Provider was to remove any virus and clean up the programs. Provider was also asked to repair several issues with the printer. These were not completed. When the computer was returned(after calls and visits) all that we could figure out was that provider returned computer to stock condition. We had to reload all programs and software. This was to be done by provider.

Response from BLUECHIP COMPUTERS
The client brought the unit into the office. We tested the unit and found that the system was seriously infected. I removed all infections that I found, but windows was damaged beyond repair and had to be reloaded. The unit was running Windows 8 when the client brought it in, but the tag on the side was for Windows 7. I spoke with the client and explained the situation. She did not have a copy of Windows 8, and stated she preferred Windows 7 anyway, windows 8 was installed by someone else. Therefore, legally we had to reload with the version licensed on the machine. We further explained that we could transfer her data, but could not transfer programs and software due to copyright laws. She agreed to the repair. When we were finished, she picked up the unit and took it home. She then called saying that her Word was not there, and she could not find her programs. I explained to her again that we cannot install those programs without her providing a license first. A couple of hours later, her roommate called us, and she and I went over everything again. She then asked that we come out and configure the unit back to her preferences. I explained to her that I could do that, but there would be additional costs for going onsite, of which she found unacceptable and ended the conversation by stating she would give us a bad review on Angie’s List. I told her I was sorry she felt that way, and she hung up.

The video board on my 5 year old PC died. I expected I would need a new board but did not have time to shop for one and install it myself. I searched Angie's List for a nearby computer repair shop with a good rating (the last shop I had used was no longer in business) I took my PC in and told them the problem and said if it needed a new board to try to replace it with an inexpensive board or a used one because I intended buying a new PC soon and didn't want to buy a new expensive board. They called me the next day and said that since my PC actually included a video chip on the main board, I would not need a replacement board but they could just activate the on-board video. I was also aware that my operating system (Windows-XP) had been damaged in the past by a virus infection and was not working as well as it should. They checked it out and removed some problems. It now works fine and I didn't need to buy a new board. If I had been a computer hardware person I probably could have done this myself, but I am a software person and was not aware that my PC had on-board video that I could have activated. So I am quite satisfied with the speedy result and the cost ($75) I got my PC back and running well again in just 1 day. I would definitely use them again if I had any more hardware problems
Description of Work: removed defective video board and activated the on-board video checked system for errors

They called me back the next day, with the computer completely fixed. It was not an easy fix; they said it was difficult. But they came through and it appears no programs or data was lost.
Description of Work: My computer was completely frozen and would not even boot up in safe mode. They gave me an estimate and told me it would be fixed (if possible) in 2-3 days, as they were backed up.

I went here based on reviews found on here. Can you say DISAPPOINTMENT? I have a laptop that needed a new internal jack for the power cord. Through the years I or family members have tripped over the cord and ultimately the little power jack on the inside came lose and would not work when I plugged in the power cord. This has happened several times and I have always managed to open it up and get the power jack back in place and it worked fine I am obviously not a computer novice but at the same time I am not one of the and quot;expertsand quot; The last time it happened and I tried to go through the process of putting it back together again was not a success. I figured I would just take it in and get a new shell for the laptop as well as the power jack and also while I was at it i would have a new keyboard also put on because I have used it so much that several of the keys were blank where the letters used to be. I had looked online prior to going into the store and found both my case and keyboard pretty easy. I figured that the parts would cost me more by going to a store which was fine with me...I just needed my laptop to work so I was willing to pay to have it done in a shop by the and quot;expertsand quot; HA! boy was that a mistake. The tech told me that first off they do not have a case for my laptop....he told me it was a very rare case. Really? I mean it's only an HP laptop, nothing special, nothing fancy. I told him that I had found the case and keyboard online and that if need I could order them or tell them which website to go to. The guy went on to tell me that it is very very complicated to change out a case and that the power jack is in the very bottom of that case. I expressed that I was aware of that as we had opened it up a few times in the past to fix it and it worked but that now I just wanted it fixed for good this time and wanted them to do it. The guy then proceeded to tell me that by the time this and by the time that and total cost would be a few hundred dollars less than just buying a new laptop. I did not want a new laptop with Windows 8 nor did I even want a new laptop. My HP worked just great and I wanted to fix it and I was willing to pay for it and did not care that for a few hundred dollars I could buy a new nightmare..I mean a new windows 8 computer. Needless to say I left that day with my laptop because they didn't really want to fix my HP...I guess the $300 they would have charged me was not enough for them to be bothered. apparently I needed to spend just a few hundred more and get a new one. Will not be going back to this store in the future. I gave them a chance to have my business and it was not wanted because somebody would have had to do a little more work than ring up a quick sale. Needless to say I heard the same song and dance from a few other computer stores which irritated me to the point that I ordered a new case, power jack, and keyboard and apparently it works good enough for me to make this review. Looks like it didn't work out to well for them though. It only cost me and 70 for parts and shipping and about an hour of my time and problem solved. Thanks for saving me about $230 and teaching me where NOT to go for my computer needs.
Description of Work: Suggested I buy a new laptop as opposed to fixing my old one.

We make it a policy to strive for the best possible service for the client. If a machine comes in that requires more repairs than the unit is worth than we will try to dissuade the client from wasting money on something that will give them diminishing returns. However, if the client insists we will do the repair. I must note however, that we were not the only repair facility to come to this conclusion. As she stated she took the unit elsewhere and received the same results.

BlueChip is tucked away in an unassuming, anonymous strip mall -- but its techs are first rate. In fact, they are my go-to guys for all things computer related. Turnaround time is about three days, and they do a good job of making computer repair and security issues understandable. By keeping my security software up to date, I've caught some malware on my own -- which saved me an extra trip to the shop. Yay!
Description of Work: Had a computer virus. BlueChip removed it, cleaned my system, and updated the security software.

I called them because I had a sound card that needed to be installed in my PC. The card was not new and I did not have the setup disc. Everything necessary is available online. The physical install went fine, but he did not install the controller that allows the user to control the device. On a previous visit he addressed printer and network issues sucessfully. I feel the tech lacks the professional experience to do more than simple repairs.

excellent experience.Knowledgeable and professional and helpful.
Description of Work: Dave came out and helped add cable line so i could use the computer in a different area. He set up my printer and explained advantages/disadvantages of wireless. He also gave helpful tips to keep printer running well. He got the computer up and running and answered all the questions I had. I was very pleased with the service and it was well worth the cost. He was very professional and no question was viewed as too basic. His responses really helped me to understand how to better utilize my system. Will use again when necessary.

My old computer's hard drive died, and I was experiencing graphics problems with the integrated graphics on the new computer. I though my old computer had an actual graphics card in it, and wanted it switched over to the computer I'm currently using. I took both computers into their shop and asked them to switch the graphics card to the one I'm currently using. They later called to inform me that the old computer also had an integrated graphics chip. I asked them to recycle the old computer since I could no longer use it with a dead hard drive. They then sold me an actual graphics card and installed it in the computer I'm currently using. I took the computers in around 11am and they finished around 2:30-3pm that same day.
Description of Work: I thought my old computer had a graphics card in it and had asked them to change the graphics card from the old computer to the one I'm currently using. They later called to inform me that the old computer had another integrated graphics chip. They then sold me an actual graphic chip and installed it in the computer I'm currently using. All work was done at their shop and all work was done over the course of one day. The final price was 75.00 for the graphics card and labor.

Frank also checked to make sure the fans were working properly and that the computer wasn't overheating. I was happy with his work.
Description of Work: I contacted Blue Chip Computers, as a family member was sure he smelled something -burning coming from the computer. Frank came on time and put a heavy load charge on the computer to heat it up and to check for any smells. The only thing was maybe dust/ no burning smell though. He took the CPU outside and used canned air to blast out the dust/ it was dusty. It cost 75.00 for the check/by hour and didn't have a senior discount. My computer was already working/ I don't have a sense of smell- needed someone to check it out. Frank answered other questions about speeding up my files/programs, or said it could be brought into the store- if I wanted a bigger memory installed.

Great experience overall. I had to leave my laptop there for evaluation, and when they knew what the problem was they followed up with a phone call to me, and a voice message. When I was not able to get back to them that day, they called again the next morning. That kind of timely feedback is often hard to come by these days.
Description of Work: I brought in an old laptop that seemed dead. All I wanted is an evaluation on whether it warranted repair. I wanted to give it to a friend of mine if my repair cost would be negligible. They told me the operating system had to be re-installed, and gave me a price for that, but that after that, they might find other things wrong. I decided not to spend the money. Just as I was about to leave with my defunct laptop, the repairman gave me simple instructions on reinstalling the OS and drivers -- told me to try it on my own. I'll give it a try next weekend. I have worked with computers many years, but I never on hardware. And I know enough to know these people are very knowledgeable. A few months ago, I also went with a friend, whose desktop needed a RAM upgrade. They sold the parts to her. They installed the memory for no charge, with retesting after the installation to ensure the new memory was accessible.. They were able to do that for her while we waited.
