At the first visit on June 24, we discussed the scope of work. Lee Fairbanks gave me two estimates: one for tearing up all the bricks and resetting them with additional bricks to be placed along the edge of the house, or repairing the bricks that were loose and adding a mixture of old and new bricks against the house. I chose the latter option. I paid him half ($765) and we made a date to have the work done on Monday, July 21. That gave Lee a month to buy the necessary bricks and prepare for my small job. On Monday, July 21 Lee didn't show up. I called him at 11am after waiting for him all morning. He said rain had backed up his workload. (It had rained twice during the month). I asked him why he hadn't called me. He said he had called and left a message. I received no messages from Lee, but had received other messages. Lee asked if I could be ready for them to start work at 7am the following day (Tues. July 22). I said yes. He showed up with 2 workers at 8am. We got off on the wrong foot when I pointed out that he was an hour late. He was very defensive and confrontational, insisting he had left a message the first time he hadn't shown up. When I told him I hadn't gotten a message from him, he accused me of calling him a liar. I told him I was just telling him that I had not received any message from him. We walked out to the patio and it was obvious Lee didn't remember what he had promised. It appeared as though he was trying to skimp on the job by reconfiguring the bricks that were already there and not buying any new ones. I asked if he had brought the necessary bricks with him. He said he was planning to start the work and then see how many bricks he needed. I told him this was unprofessional and not what he had promised. He seemed intent on arguing. I asked if we could put our differences aside and focus on coming up with a satisfactory plan, but he was so irritated and antagonistic that I said I was tempted to go with someone else. That really made him mad. We argued a little longer until it was obvious we weren't ever going to see eye to eye. He said if i wanted to go with someone else, to go ahead; he would give me my money back. I said please do that. He stormed out. In my case, Lee was more interested in being right and proving me wrong then doing the job. He is a big guy with a big personality, but he is unreliable and unprofessional. I would never recommend him.
Description of Work: He came to see the scope of the job and to give me an estimate.

We are a ways out of the main Tucson area and I had seen this companies ad in the local paper for quite sometime. They had a web site which mentioned free estimates so I set a brief discription of what I was wanting done. A couple of day later, the owner call and we set an appointment, he was running late for the apporintment and he called to see if that would be a problem to make it an hour later which was ok for me. We met, walked the entire property. He wrote up a proposal and we agreed on a price which included a down payment, I signed the agreement, gave him a check for $1,200.00. One thing we did not do was to write on the contract the exact date the work would start, I understood it would start early the following week, I called him and discussed the issue, it was agreed on a start date. The following week they started the work and in approx. 4 + days they had finished. They were delayed one day due to a cold rainey front came through. He called me and told me the problem with the weather, they were back on the job the following morning as the weather had cleared. Once the work was completed, we walked the property, I noticed a couple of areas that needed a little more work, he had his men take care of it right then, once I saw the work was completed to my satisfaction I paid the balance of the contract.
Description of Work: The work was for a complete clean up of a lot, 1 acre, around a residence. To remove all weeds and a lot of broom grass but leave all natural vegetation to control errosion. Trim all trees with 5' ground clear around tree base and for a fire break. Removed all debris and haul to dump ground. They hand chopped and raked the entire property, no power equipment was used. They had a 5 man crew most of the time and they were all good workers.

In my experience they never once showed up at the times they said they would and it's been a month and the work has still not been entirely completed. They originally said it would take 2 1/2 to 3 days. They were originally going to spray the grass twice before they removed it. To my knowledge it was never sprayed. When they finally got started, they came on a Monday and scraped all of the grass into piles. The rest of the week was windy and I literally had to clean buckets of grass out of my pool. The following week they came and laid fiber mats over most of the lawn and brought in the gravel and spread it. The raised garden was built. After a few more days installed the automatic sprinkler system, but it didn't work correctly and they screwed up my existing drip system. They were supposed to come and fix it twice, but haven't showed up in over a week. They do average to good work and the workmen, when they are here, seem to be very conscientious, but I can't recommend them.
Description of Work: Remove grass in backyard and replace with gravel, 12 boulders and a 60 foot flagstone walkway. Add gravel to the front yard. Build a raised vegetable garden with automatic watering. They also planted two citrus trees in the back yard.
