Gustavo Ruiz was impressive when we first met and decided to let him to do our paver project. We were hit with our first concern was he wasn't using a level and we had to tell him several times that there were areas that were completely uneven. After I used my level to show him he finally made adjustments. Since it's been finished we have found several other areas that settled and are even worse. Our second concern was with laying a curve to a walk way. After they left for the day, we noticed he had laid out the pavers so bad that the curve in the walk width was over 8 inches difference in places and there was no curve just right angles, so my wife and I redid the curve that evening so they could continue the next day. Two nights after the project was finished, we had a rain shower and all of the mortar sand along with his so called sealer washed away. Then we noticed that when he did attempt to seal it there are areas where he sealed the sand right on top of the pavers and it looks terrible. Lastly after putting all of our patio furniture back we discovered that the 18 foot by 3 foot BBQ addition was only 30 inches wide instead of 36 as we originally requested and he bid. When we first met he was responding instantly to get the quote and job, now that we have problems he's disappeared from the face of the earth. I've sent him pictures of the issues and not one single reply. I was eager to give my business to a young man but we are shocked how bad his work was and I am very disappointed with Gustavo personally. Either he was in way over his head or once he gets the money he could care less. We now have to hire a professional to come fix everything he messed up. I would NOT recommend Gustavo or Ruiz Landscaping/G.Ruiz Proscape LLC to anyone wanting to do any kind of paver/block project at all.

The crew showed up on time and left the area clean. When I had them quote the job, I showed him our driveway which has rip rap along the side of it. I told him that I wanted the finished project to look the same. The example rip rap had thick grout with only the face of the rocks exposed. The rocks were smooth meaning they were set to a depth so each face was level with the next. Most importantly the wall is sturdy. I can climb all over it without worrying about rocks coming out or breaking the rip rap. The job Ruiz did was nothing like the example. The rip rap grout was not deep leaving most of the rock exposed and visible. The grout was so thin in many spots that bare earth was visible. Some areas lacked grout. Rocks were shaky or simply fell out. I called to complain and they quickly came out and fixed part of the rip rap. While it was a big improvement, it still wasn't quite the same as the example. A few weeks later I was clearing dirt and pollen off the wall with an electric leaf blower. From 5-10 feet away, the mild wind was blowing several rocks off the wall. Other rocks would move with a slight touch. I certainly was not going to climb on this wall, which was in our kid's play area, which I told him I wanted to be sturdy enough for kids to climb. So I called to ask him to fix the wall since it was still clearly not to our contracted spec. He said he could come out but I would have to pay for the labor...he would cover the materials. I told him that I wasn't going to pay him again for bad work that wasn't done correctly the first time. He told me he gave me a really good quote - I would have preferred an honest quote for my expectation. His crew cut corners and won't back their work. His company see's the wall falling apart as a warranty issue and he doesn't warranty rock work. I see it as a failure to execute the contract. I would not risk using them unless you're prepared to have someone else fix their work.
