I purchased a new AC from Wolff Mechanical three months ago. Since the install there have been nine call backs to my home to repair issues. Wolff Mechanical as a company has been extremely helpful with coming back to correct each and every issue. My disappointment is I purchased an $11k unit and I feel I have a lemon. I believe as a company they should have done more to compensate me after nine call backs in a three month time frame. The issues between poor install and mechanical issues with the actual unit have been non stop. I would never recommend the company due to my personal experience.

Wolff Mechanical was very professional. The team arrived on time an did an excellent job removing the old A/C unit, installing and testing the new A/C unit and getting the remote sensor and thermostat connected to my WiFi. I had noticed a big difference in room temperature in various rooms with my old A/C unit. Wolff Mechanical was great at working with me to find solutions to the problems with my existing duct work. All the rooms serviced by my south A/C unit consistently held the same temperature after they were done. Wolff Mechanical came back the next day to pull apart and re-install my north A/C unit. A previous contractor had installed the north A/C unit in correctly and it needed to be pulled out and re-installed. Wolff Mechanical did a good job on the re-installation.A couple months later I asked Wolff Mechanical to come out and do major renovation of the north A/C duct work. I gave them a drawing of the changes I wanted and they suggested useful improvements to my recommended duct changes. For $1100 they completed the duct work including dampers to allow me to adjust airflow to each part of the house. Now my whole house maintains a consistent temperature. My only complaint with Wolff Mechanical was that the salesperson was slow to get back to me sometimes. However, once I got a contact within the service dept they were very responsive. Overall, I'm very satisfied with Wolff Mechanical.
Description of Work: Wolff Mechanical removed our old south A/C unit and replaced it with a new Daikin 3 ton A/C unit. They re-balanced the south AC ducting to even-out room temperatures. In addition, they pulled apart our north A/C unit that had been improperly installed by another contractor and re-installed it correctly.

This is a company that I have been using for my A/C needs for some time. Usually I am very happy with the price and the service they provide but this last visit was so appallingly bad that I don't know if I would ever use them again. I don't know if they changed owners or if this was just a really bad day for a new tech but I was very disappointed. Tech showed up, took a quick look at the exterior part of my system and said something was terribly wrong with it because it was only cooling 4 degrees at the unit. He looked at few things, took his sniffer thing up in the attic and said it had a micro leak at the evap coil. He explained to me that this would cost 2800-3500 dollars to fix, recommended I replace the entire system and gave me a quote of 9500 to 11,500 dollars to do so. His report indicated that the unit was so low on refrigerant that he was unable to complete the check, and where the leak was on the coil. I wanted to price a new coil so I went up a couple days later to get a model number and found the tech had left some of the screws out so that the unit had a 1/2 inch open gap that leaked air when it was running. Bear in mind the heater functions fine, except that now I pay to heat my attic as well as the house because their tech did not bother with re-assembling my unit when he was done!!!! Enter the next company that I called out for a second opinion. Ran the unit for a while, tested all the temperatures out and the came out right in range for proper operation (18 degree drop, which is at the lower end but acceptable). He then got his sniffer out and tested for leaks, both where the Wolff Tech said and all around the attic unit. Nothing. No leaks. He did recommend I add a little Freon, but it did not need much at all, they say it was little enough that it could easily be accounted for by what is lost from annual checks and maybe started a bit low when compressor was replaced but no big deal. Bottom line? There was never anything wrong with my unit at all!!! Nothing. What the **** happened here? If I had listened to that Wolff tech and replaced my unti I would have spent as much as 11,500 dollars to replace somthing that is working normally. If I had not checked their work I could have neded up paying to air condtion my attic all summer because they didn't put my system back together properly. BE VERY CAREFUL IN TRUSTING THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Removed Member Name] , Thank you for submitting your review to further Wolff's growth and learning from our own mistakes. We value feedback both positive and negative. I'd like to first apologize for your negative experience. This is not consistent with Wolff's extensive history of working with high integrity while finding honest and agreeable solutions in every case. Having said that you are typically "very happy" with Wolff, you know first hand that we are very capable, and have responded to your needs previously without issue. I assure you that we are not under any new ownership, and strive to continue this very strong record of excellence. With that, servicing air conditioners is full of scenarios developed around trust. Wolff must trust that it's well-trained technicians are giving accurate and solid diagnosis' in each case. The technician performing the tune up does maintain that he gave an honest diagnosis in this case -- whether or not this is accurate is certainly being vetted out as we do not allow for any scenario to take advantage or make unnecessary recommendations. In either case, you were given more than one opportunity to have Wolff return and make the situation right. There is always a chance to have a 2nd company come to confirm and give 2nd opinions, and we respect that right of yours to have that done. However, that next opinion could certainly have come following the offered 2nd visit from our own technician to take matters into our own hands, take pictures of what you felt what was now a damaged reassembly of the existing coil, and solve this problem for you in a way that brought us to resolution and back on our way to a positive relationship. Wolff takes these issues very seriously and we do wish very much that we had the opportunity to catch our own mistake as offered, or communicate more effectively what was (if anything) wrong with the system. Lastly, Wolff is very careful to not suggest replacement solely based on necessary or unnecessary repairs. The presentation of quotes should only be from a stance that you the homeowner would or could benefit from a higher efficiency rating and an AC unit that could bring peace of mind with warranty and performance for many many years to come. Again, if this impression was not given we apologize for that. At this point we're mostly concerned with how we can gain any level of trust back with you. What can we do? How can we make this right? Is there any way we can move forward in a positive manner and give you a resolution that you're comfortable with? Again, we thank you for your loyalty to Wolff throughout the last few years and appreciate the time you've taken to voice your concerns. Let's work together to find a way to resolve this. He was efficient and on time. We pay $49.99 for his services. We very much appreciated the fact that he didn't try to sell us anything or lie about anything else being wrong with the unit. We absolutely hate when they do that. Very professional. I have to say out of 4 different AC/Plumbing companies we've used in the past, looking for the right one, I think we found it in Wolff Mechanical. I would definitely recommend them to neighbors and friends and definitely call them again. Finally a good, honest company with reasonable prices. I've waited a long time to say that.

This was THE WORST. I've bought a literal mountain of units as a home owners insurance adjuster so I know how it is supposed to go. They sent a sales guy instead of a tech and he tried to lie to me to get me to do what would get him the most money. First, they installed the unit and serviced it every year so they know all about the unit. Or, at least they SHOULD. They had my unit install year as 1928 and the guy never bothered to look at the unit and see when it was made. Instead, he insisted it was out of warranty (it's not) and that it is really old (it's not). When I confronted him, he said he would call the manufacturer but that it had no warranty. He later admitted the repairs needed were under warranty. However, he diagnosed the unit wrong. He said a valve was broken--which is true--but neglected to mention the $1k in supplemental repairs needed not covered by the warranty. Worst of all, he missed that the fuses were literally BURNING when the unit was on. No flames but smoke is noticeable when the unit is on when you stand next to it. It is all fixable. Instead of encouraging me to fix the unit, he encouraged me to replace it--with a unit not normally sold in the U.S. for twice the going rate. He misrepresented the SEER ratings available on the market. He gave me the quote without measuring my house, looking at my vents or asking what I wanted. Basically he told me what he felt like selling and not what is appropriate for my house. Horrible experience. Nothing but dishonesty.
Description of Work: They were supposed to service and diagnose the unit. They just lied to me instead.

Dear (removed member name), First and foremost I would like to apologize for not making our visit to your home a good experience, we train our people extensively on customer service and never want a homeowner to have a bad experience. The employee dispatched to your home was a technician and is not employed in our sales department. The tech knew your unit was not a 1928 as you did also, this was a glitch in the mobile software. The tech would have checked on the warranty no matter what once he knew you needed a repair. He did diagnose the unit correctly a TXV valve and quoted you $485.00 to repair the valve, at that time the unit was not smoking or he would have checked the fuses (smoking may have had something to do with the second company you had out). If you paid $1000. In additional repairs above the TXV to another company I would question that diagnosis and price. Many people ask for equipment quotes when our techs are at the home just to get a figure for a planned replacement in the future. If you had wanted to replace the unit a full heat load would have been performed on your home prior to you signing a contract. Regarding the brand of the unit it is a common manufacturer sold in all 50 states, manufactured in the USA and has the longest warranty of all premium equipment. Most of our custom homeowners request the brand as they are familiar with it. I can understand you maybe not being familiar with the brand or retail pricing as an insurance adjuster, when the insurance companies limit how much can be spent. I am not sure what the comment was about the SEER, the unit quoted was a 15 SEER as stated on the quote, minimum SEER that can be manufactured in the USA as of January 2015 is a 14 SEER, however 13 SEERS that manufacturers have in stock can still be installed, laws on this have not been written on these standards as of today’s date, so compliance is not mandatory. I tried to call the woman who called us out to the home and who was on site during our visit today when I announced who I was she hung up. When see a review like this I really want to talk to the homeowner, before addressing it with the tech. We performed no repair or service at your home only a diagnostic and as a gesture of goodwill and apology, I will mail you out a check for $89.00. If you would be willing to discuss the details with me I can be reached at 480-818-0620. I wish you the best in your new home. Lisa Wolff

Very professional. Brian called ahead to let us know when he was approx 30 minutes away. His arrival was on time and we discussed which services I wanted performed, costs and results to be expected. The agreed upon services were completed and Brian offered to answer any questions and then we settled up our bill, thanked him, and told him we would recommend him to others and write a review for Angie's.
Description of Work: Brian replaced the fan motor and blade on one of our A/C units, put hard-start kits on both of our units, added freon to our second A/C unit. All our questions were answered with NO pressure to buy any services.

Wolff Mechanical was very professional & reponsive from the very first contact I had with them on the phone through the sales rep who came to house that afternoon to review options with me about the purchase of a new heat pump. The installation crew was extremely thorough & professional. I was happy to see that the crew kept me abreast of anything that was unusual during the installation & got my approval before they did anything that was not normally done. Overall, I was very impressed with Wolff's service & would use them in the future. Unfortunately, this brand new system had a failure after only 2 1/2 months. One of the reasons I bought the system that I did was a promise of improved reliability. I called Wolff immediately, & was told they could not send a tech out until the following afternoon. After purchasing a system that cost over $8000, I would expect service to be a little more prompt in responding to my call. Fortunately, the tech determined that there was a small problem with the installation of a sensor switch in my attic which cause the system to trip, & shut down. The other thing I' disappointed with is that I requested to speak to someone in charge be it a service manager, repair supervisor, or someone in authority. The only Wolff rep I heard from was the gentleman who came out to give me a proposal for the new system, & that was only by phone. I was also kept waiting until nearly 6PM for the service tech to arrive. Because of the above issues, I have had to downgrade Wolff for quality & punctuality.

Our air conditioning unit went down and we needed service, asap of course. The customer service gal ( I forget her name) was VERY courteous and friendly. They were able to get out that afternoon. The service man called me when he was on his way. Later, the guy called me ( I wasn't home) to verify the price which I approved. All in all the whole process went very smooth and the price was about half of what I had expected. Good company!! I highly recommend them.

My heat kicked on for the first time this morning since earlier in the year. The fan was blowing but no hot air was coming out. I called Wolff Mechanical about 6:30am. Their answering service took my info and said someone would call me after 7:00am. About 7:30am, Crystal called me and asked what the problem was. I explained and she took my info. She said she would schedule me for !:00pm to 5:00pm but said that it would probably be a lot sooner. About !0:00am, she called and said he would be there in about 30 minutes. He arrived about 10:30am. The serviceman was named Jaime and I explained the problem. He told me to turn system on and remove the air filter. He determined that it need refrigerant. He told me the cost per pound of refrigerant. I agreed on the price. He put in 3 pounds of refrigerant. As soon as he did, system started to heat up and is working fine. I need to schedule service every year prior to summer. I haven't in a few years which was probably the problem. Jaime was very professional and nice. I have used this company 3-4 times in the past via Angie's List. Was only a $ 89 charge for showing up. Refrigerant cost is another thing. Highly recommend this company. You get same day service in a emergency.

Excellent service.....called to let us know the technician was in route.....explained everything he was doing.......they honored the manufacturer's warranty on all parts that needed to be replaced, and processed and submitted all paperwork for the APS rebates which were received yesterday.......only one concern......their price seemed somewhat high, even though we were receiving the APS rebate....they may have that $100 rebate figured into the cost they charge for additional profit? I'm wondering what the tune up price would have been if there were no rebate involved.............

Hello member, I have not pulled your ticket but if this was an APS super tune up, the increased cost is due to the highly expensive equipment and maintenance of that equipment, required for this type of tune up. Or if equipment is not available the long written form and doucmentation that is required for a rebate on the super tune up program. If they are willing to refund $100.00 on a tune up they want a lot of documentation and testing. We do not increase the price $100.00 on an APS tune up. We appreciate your business and hope the response will make things a bit clearer. Thanks for letting us know how we are doing. We also have a refferal program if you refer us to a friend or relative that purchases new equipment we pay you $100.00 and give your friend $100.00 off their purchase. Lisa Wolff

Quite well. They have always provided excellent, professional service. I was very happy (again) with how quickly they responded. The rep gave me some good suggestions about what to check in the future if that happened again (which turned out to be only 3 days later, when I decided to replace the fuse - I filed another positive review about Swenson Electric on that). I was also supposed to leave for a social event at 4:30, and while I was delayed, I was able to make most of it, thanks to their quick response.
Description of Work: My air conditioner shut down at around 3:45 pm on that Saturday afternoon. I called Wolff right away -- they installed the air conditioner about 4 years ago, and I have a service contract with them that covers parts and labor. They said that they would have their rep out there between 6 and 7pm, but he was at my house somewhat before 6:00pm. He spent about a half-hour checking things out and diagnosed it as only a tripped fuse. He reset the fuse, gave me some suggestions, and left quite expeditiously.

Jason called at 7:30am to tell me that he was on his way to perform the repair. He arrived at 8:00, just as he had promised. He immediately got on the roof and began looking at the unit. He quickly determined that the problem was a short in the large fuse. This was caused by the power outage the previous night. He changed the large fuse and also change the small fuse to be proactive. He looked over the rest of the unit and reported that he saw nothing else that needed his attention. He came in and checked the digital thermastat. He answered all of my questions thoroughly. Jason was courteous and very professional. He represents this company well. I will call them again.
Description of Work: My neighborhood experienced a power outage. The power came back on but my Trane heatpump did not.I called Wolffe Mechanical after hours. They had an answering service take my call. Within 30 minutes, I received a call back from a technician named Jason. I explained to him what had happened. He offered to come out that night. I told him that we had a place to spend the evening, and that I preferred he come in the morning. We made an appointment for 8:00am the next day. While speaking with him on the phone, he shared that there was a cost of traveling and diagnosis ($79).

This gave me pause but I decided to schedule the service as I needed it done and was looking for a new service company. The work was scheduled for a Friday and I took the time off work. The morning of the service call they called and said the machine they use for the service had broken down and they would have to reschedule. This seemed odd but I rescheduled for another Friday. That day came and an hour before the service call they called and said the technician had a family Emergency and would not be coming. They apologized and asked if I would like to reschedule. I know things happen but it makes me wonder if Friday's on the west side are too much trouble for them. One of my concerns is the APS rebates are limited and I was afraid that I'd run out of time. I called APS and found that they issue rebates to each of their providers so if the provider has not used all of their rebates I was ok. I would expect that Wolf would have been able to tell me that but all I got from them on my initial calls is I should be ok. That should have been my first clue they were not the best choice. update: I was contacted by Wolf with an explanation of why things went awry, an apology, and an offer to make things right. I appreciate that but unfortunately I had already contracted with another company although I'm not sure I would have had them do the work even if I had not. To their credit they tried to make it right even by offering a discount, it may have even been free I wasn't really listening, but my decision had been made at this point and a discount was not an incentive. As far as the APS rebate program goes it could be the person I spoke with at APS didn't know what they were talking about. It's not uncommon for the utility to give you bad information. That is quite concerning as I'm looking at a $525.00 bill if the rebate program ends before the service is accomplished. Without the APS rebate I would have had a standard service done which is the reason I was double checking eligibility.

Response from Wolff Mechanical
Dear Member, I apologize for Wolff Mechanical having to reschedule your tune up twice, the machine was truly broke on your first appointment (at that time we had 1 APS tune up stargate machine). We received it back from getting repaired and rescheduled you for 4/13 the tech who was to come out to your home received a call from his child’s school that they were taking her into the ER. This involved a head injury so he had to go and we were unable to get another tech to your home on Friday afternoon with a machine. These machines needed for the APS super tune ups are very expensive, so until we have more customers purchasing APS super tune ups we only had 1 of them, but have acquired another due to this situation. I am sorry we had to reschedule again, my service manager Wayne is calling you today to offer the same tune up on all 3 units at no charge to you. . Regarding the APS super tune up rebates we are not told how many are available in the program nor how many our company will get, and like with most utility rebates we are notified when the utility runs out of rebate funds. I just wanted to make sure you knew that we realize your time is important and we want to do whatever we can to make it up to you. I also wanted to make sure you understand we were not lying to you about rescheduling your appointments; we never would have cancelled you twice without extreme circumstances. Sincerely, Lisa Wolff 480-968-8208

I was told he would be there between 1-4pm and arrived about 1:30pm. Took apart the panel on a/c and did some testing with a volt meter. Went inside to check thermostat and put a jump connection on it. Seemed that thermostat was shorting out. Some of the outside wires were missing some insulation on it. Also builder had too much extra wire on it. Put in a new basic non programmable digital thermostat and got rid of the excess wire outside and mad a new connection. New thermostat was $260 and labor was about $79. Finished job in about 30-45 minutes. Thought price of thermostat was high but was in an emergency situation. Guys named was Joey and was very professional. Have used them before for a couple of jobs and as usual they did a great job. Nothing is ever cheap when it comes the a/c repair but accept that as part of the business.

Almost two months ago, two of their employees came out and performed the duct test and found that the total CFM drawn was lower than it should be. They gave us a handful of recommendations, including upgrading the B/A flex, sealing the ductwork in the attic, a new filter grille, and their maintenance plan. They seemed friendly and conscientious. They even wore booties to keep dirt off the carpets when they came in. We scheduled them to do the two biggest (and most expensive) items on the list the next week, figuring the minor ones could wait. An hour after they were scheduled to come, we called the office. They said the guys were in a meeting and should be there any minute. Another hour later, same story. Eventually we had to go to work, so we had to schedule them for the next week. The 2nd crew showed up a little early. About 15 minutes into the work, they discovered that the plan was physically impossible. They didn't do any work since we'd have to schedule another person to come out and make a new recommendation. The 2nd inspector said that we would need to put a new return in the master bedroom instead of the new B/A flex, which would be more expensive. We then scheduled another appointment to have them do the work. I asked for some kind of discount because of all the hassle, since we'd already taken off work or waited around for nothing a few times. They agreed to do the work for the original quote, which I thought was fair. The following week, they came and did all the work in way less time than they estimated. But they didn't have the tools to do the final test so that we could send off for the rebate. We had to schedule the original guy to come back out for the test, and we made sure that would be no charge since that was supposed to be included in the first place. Another week later, the guy didn't show up. We called the office and it turned out they had left me a message on my work phone saying he was sick. I was at home waiting on him, so I didn't get the message and had wasted some more time waiting. We made an appointment for the next week. While we were waiting again for him to show up, the office called and said the guy had worked until 2am the night before and wouldn't be coming over. We weren't able to get an appointment until another week out. So more than 7 weeks later, we're finally done. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone at this point. Over half the occasions when the office was supposed to call us, we wouldn't hear anything and would end up calling them. It seemed like they were always waiting on paperwork to be submitted or for someone to come into work. I honestly felt like each individual person we dealt with was doing their best, and they were all pretty personable. But something about their internal communication processes really turned this into a huge pain. In the end, the final CFM didn't meet the required number, so I'm crossing my fingers that we'll still get the rebate and not have to contact them for more work.
Description of Work: Duct test and repair. As part of a rebate program from my utility company, a BDI-certified contractor was to inspect and test our ducts and make any necessary repairs. Wolff tested for leaks in the ducts using a flow hood. Then they added a new return to the master bedroom and repaired the leaks in the attic.
