Initially found this firm on Yelp and here and because of their consistently good reviews on both sites decided to Spoke with Mike the owner who referred me to his estimator Tom. After some phone tag, Tom came out (on time) to do the estimate. Tom within a few minutes became quite disinterested in the job stating that since I had already picked out tile, vanities, fixtures there was not enough profit margin in it for his firm and they did not do mostly labor and supplies projects. I was surprised because when I described the job to the owner, I was not told that they primarily supply (and mark up) purchases- after all, I was not in need of an interior design firm. Despite having 4 other houses to remodel, he was not interested in basic contractor work unless they could sell most of the materials and declined to proceed or bid. In trying to find a contractor for these projects, I did run into firms with such a business model yet was told this fact at the initial inquiry thereby revealing that we would not be a good fit business-wise. I wish McCurdy would have done the same as it would have saved us the both time and expense of a pointless meeting.

After waiting a week, the estimator explained because we had our own materials, the owner felt he could not make the money he wanted on our job and refused to give us a price. I can understand making a business decision not to bid, but what I have a huge problem with is this: 1. Why wait a week to tell us that? 2. Why not give us a price with labor marked up to what is worth to you and let us decide if it's worth it to pay a professional that rate? The cost is relative to the time and money we are willing to spend. We are anxious to get it done, so you may have been pleasantly surprised we were willing to pay a premium for a pro. You didn't even give us a chance. 3. Why not refer us to a person you know could be happy to do a job our size? You must know quality people who work on smaller projects. Would it kill you to try to help us out? 4. I called the office and left a message for the owner and said these same things and provided a phone number and never got a call back. I also said I was planning to review the experience on Angies List since this is where I found him. No call back.
Description of Work: Provided full set of plans, scope of work and materials list. The estimator came out and viewed the project and said he would get us an estimate. It was a gable roof porch addition, several pergolas, and three new windows and front door install with accompanying electrical work. Also complete exterior finishing (board and batten siding and cedar shingles on gable end).

When they showed up to quote the two projects, they only snapped a couple photos and did not even bother taking any measurements. The joining of the two offices was pretty straight forward. The break room remodel had a couple key points that were stressed and were the actual driving factor to the remodel (utilizing the space to the max, with special regards to a chase/furred-out wall, a unit to house 6 microwaves, adding an oven only, adding a bar counter attached to wall, and maxing out the counter-top space). He was acknowledging the points but didnt take any measurements and really dont recall him taking any notes. A day or two later they emailed the rendering over to us to review. the rendering did not show any of the items we talked about except for the bar. I emailed back and forth a couple of times with my contact about my concerns of the renderings and how they do not show how they are going address the concerns to begin with (and it basically just showed the main configuration that we already had). Their response was "Unfortunately we are not going to be able to meet your expectations in meeting your requirements for a free estimate, we wish you all the best, thanks!" The expectations were not that high, pretty simple actually. The other contractor that I am working with right now for a quote (also found on angies list) has been amazing to work with, actually listens, took photos, measurements and notes...and even sent a third party cabinet guy he works with to meet with us again to make sure he has the right measurements and fully understands what we want.

A rendering was provided based off the photos and measurements taken during the initial consultation. After further email communication, it was decided that we were unable to provide the client with what they were looking for and declined to further bid on their project. No work was performed for this member.
I have been in construction of one type or the other for over 40 years and I now realize what a 5-Star company should be, from the initial estimator (Greg S) to project manager (Tom B) and the onsite foreman (Rob) , the professionalism, the expertise and the drive to produce a product as close to perfection as possible, they never wavered from start to end. We are thinking of more renovations in the future and they will be our first call, I would not hesitate to recommend nor refer this company, a truly wonderful experience. You will not be disappointed

It went very well. We were living in the condo throughout the project and they were neat and worked around us. They did not take shortcuts as others have done replacing windows in other condos. A great stucco and paint match. As the new sheet rock patch matured a small crack developed a year later. They came back and re taped, textured and panted and no charge to us. they stood behind their work.I would use them again and recommend them to other. The price also seemed fair.
Description of Work: In our condo they replaced three windows and converted two sliding glass doors into large windows. A tricky project because all stucco had to be removed around the windows and two new walls had to be built in place of the sliding doors. It all had to be put back together with matching existing stucco and paint inside and out.

The quality of work was exceptional, especially the cabinet installation and wood plank porcelain tile through the the home and master shower. Removing the existing tile was dusty and more attention to protecting rooms/furniture would have been nice if possible. The subcontractors were always polite and professional. The job superintendents were quick to return phone calls and respond to issues. Everything we had questions or concerns about, was quickly resolved including quality control visits from the owner. The professional decorator/designer, Leyda, was extremely knowledgeable with impeccable taste. She listens to your ideas and transforms them into magazine cover-worthy reality. outside of the small issues with cleanup and drops in communication to subs, this company exceeded our expectations and the end result has given us a beautiful space to be proud of not to mention, increased the resale value of our home. We plan to use them again for phase ll of our home remodel!
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel including wall removal, all home flooring including removal of existing ceramic tile, and master shower remodel
Odd to say about a remodel project; but the entire experience really was a pleasure. The work was very organized and kept to schedule. There was no wasting of time by the crew members, yet they were very personable and polite. The owner or foreman were always available to answer any questions that we had. We were always aware of the schedule and what to expect of each day; which was very important to me as my office is in my home so I was always aware of what was being done. As with any remodel, everything didn't go completely smoothly; however, as soon as anything incorrect was discovered, it was fixed right away and never seemed to slow down the progress. I was very impressed by how much McCurdy Construction made the project about us, rather than just a job. Each time I spoke to the owner, the foreman or the designer, the first question was, "How are you liking it?" They were willing to make requested changes, along the way, so that the completed project is just exactly what we wanted. Not only do we recommend McCurdy Construction to anyone we know needing this type of work, we would never consider using anyone else.

McCurdy construction came to improve our living room by removing the popcorn ceiling, install ceiling can lights, and painting. They did a nice job, I'm very happy with the results. I'd been wanting to improve the lighting, and this is exactly what I was hoping for. The crew was pleasant, professional, and got the work done in good time. I would use them again.

We had a huge fireplace in our home that divided two rooms. We wanted it removed to make one large great room. Mike McCurdy was fantastic to work with. His bid was extremely detailed and we knew exactly what it would cost when he started the work. There were no surprises. They removed the large concrete fireplace, chimney, and a small wall between the mantle and the perpendicular wall. Instead of patching the roof, we had them install a double-paned, low-E skylight where the chimney had been. They framed and insulated the skylight cavity between the ceiling and the roof. And because the fireplace was added some time after the house was built, they had to repair and reconnect the roof truss to the other trusses. They repaired the ceiling as well as the wall, and textured and repainted. It was a huge job and it looks wonderful. The job went without a glitch. Mike is very professional and honest. He was a little hard to get in touch with at times, but he's busy because he does such good work. It was worth the wait to have him do the job. His foreman was very professional as well. Everyone who came into my house introduced himself and they were always on time. They were extremely careful to keep my house clean and they installed a wall of painters's plastic to confine the dust and mess to one area of the house. They vacuumed and cleaned up every day before they left. Mike explained everything and repeatedly checked with me to make sure I was happy with the work and how it was going. I felt like he worked on my house as if it were his -- he wanted everything to be perfect. When and if I need more work done, I won't use anyone but McCurdy.

I would highly recommend them. I was really impressed with the gentleman who came out and I think his name was Michael. However, I have a handyman who I had used before that had a better price, but I would definitely call them back. Their quote was about $2000. The gentleman who came to give the estimate was just refreshing. He was very professional, friendly and offered lots of ideas. I would probably hire them for something in the future.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from Fisher McCurdy Construction in the middle of December for taking out a couple of walls and doing some drywall work along with some electrical work. It was something like general remodeling.

Things were wonderful. They have very good communication, they were effective with troubleshooting throughout, they worked well to get the tax rebate and they cleaned up great. They took a magnet to go through the backyard and pick up any nails.
Description of Work: They constructed a new roof for my deck. They also installed a sliding glass door in my kitchen, a new double front door, installed a door that goes from my garage to my backyard and built and installed two gates (a redwood for the front of my yard and one for the backyard). They're about to do a new kitchen for me.
