INTERIOR REMODELING BY SIMMONS

This remodel project was prompted by a slab leak causing water damage in my kitchen. The kitchen was the original 1978 version that came when the house was built. It needed remodeling badly, so the water loss provided the incentive. I contacted three contractors. The first refused to provide a detailed estimate until I signed a contract. The second gave me a more elaborate design that included moving walls. This was more than I needed. The third contractor, Interior Remodeling by Simmons, gave me a detailed estimate for an in place remodel. The existing design was functional. It just needed to be modernized. The owner, Dave Simmons, was involved every step of the way. He communicated well. There were a few surprises, but nothing major. The job started just before Thanksgiving and was completed just before Christmas. The manufacture of the new cabinets had the longest lead time. The workers were efficient and courteous. They did a good job of cleaning up at the end of each day. I would not hesitate to use this contractor again.

Really, I'm not sure what you got for the $49. This wasn't different than free estimates we've gotten from others. He seemed knowledgeable and discussed some options with us during the home visit. It took almost two months to get the estimate from them after they came to our home, which was long enough that it was difficult to even remember the details of some of the things we had discussed.

We were completely happy with the work Dave and his team did on our home, we have had many remodeling projects done in the past, and they do not always turn out as you hoped,but the quality and price is the best with Dave and Clint,and their crew. They took great care of our home,and respected it as their own.

We really enjoyed working with Dave and Clint because they listened to our ideas, designs and concerns about how we wanted the project to turn out. Dave was always responsive and returned calls promptly. The project went smoothly, on schedule and was completed within the budget. The job site was cleaned after each days' work. There were some changes, but they were fairly priced and we are very pleased with the quality of the finished product.

I was expecting (and paid for) room designs and received an estimate for a remodel.

It was great. They were good and on time. It was a very good experience. They were very good. They measured the rooms, went through what to do and what materials to use.

He said he doesn't usuallly do a drawing or a written estimate. He was very brash so I was uncertain how his work would be. He may have been fine but thought I could find someone alittle more accomodating for the price he would charge.

He arrived promptly and thoroughly discussed my options.

There was no start and no finish to a consultation for a master bath renovation by Interior Design by Simmons. I provided three schedule times via Angie's List to Dave, but then received an email from him saying none of the dates worked because he had such a large response to the $49 deal. Then he sent another email stating that he had misread the dates and could do a consultation on one of our dates: Dec. 17. The next morning I called him at 8:30 a.m. to confirm the date and time. He sounded like he had been asleep, but confirmed the consultation for 10-noon on Dec. 17; during that call I gave him our address. Dave did not show up as scheduled on Dec. 17 and did not call or email to explain why. Dave only responded after I sent him an email so I would have a hard copy of what he said, in which he indicated that "he had just blown off" our appointment. As far as we are concerned, this is no way to begin a working relationship with clients and we foresee problems in the future if he did our master bath renovation. Dave did send more emails, apologizing and offering to do our consultation any time (which is surprising since he had said how busy he was). Under the circumstances, we request a refund of $49.

The company and I couldn't get on the same page. I requested to have an itemized estimate from the provider. The provider wanted to give me a verbal estimate. I was not comfortable with that. That left me to question how this whole job would go. I have decided to request a refund. Several estimates were received for the project at hand. The competitive rate for this job in it's entirety averaged $4500.00 (labor and materials). I have another company performing the job and I am very pleased with the contractor's attention to detail and quality of work.

The contractor stated that he would only be able to come and "look" at the work in January. I need the completed before then. I can do the work myself and get it done before they would even show up to look at it.

We were completely satisfied and extremely happy with this project. We have done other major remodel projects in the past and never been completely happy with the results until this effort by Dave and Clint Simmons. If we have a project in the future, we will not bother contacting other contractors; we will call Dave and know that we will get quality work at a fair price. Some of the things that we liked: 1. Acceptance of our ideas. We were very involved in selecting items and designing what we wanted done. Dave offered helpful suggestions but was always willing and able to work with our final ideas. 2. Clint and Quality Work. Clint is terrific. He plans the project, works carefully and meticulously, and ensures that the work is done correctly. He does a lot of the work himself but also supervises others. In either case his focus is making sure the work is done right. 3. Communication. Clint was very willing to talk to us about what was planned for each day and answer any questions that we had. He was also proactive and came to us if there was any possible issue about how something was to be done. 4. Respect for our house. The workers were careful with our house. They made sure doors were closed as much as possible when air conditioning was running. Clint made sure everything was put away and the area cleaned every day before he left. Dave even asked a subcontractor to come back and clean up when he saw him starting to leave without doing so. 5. Responsiveness. Dave was available by phone whenever we needed him. If we had to leave a message he would call back in minutes, not hours (or days). 6. Involvement. Much of the work was done by Clint and a few regular workers. When they did use subcontractors for more complicated electrical, plumbing, etc. it was someone they worked with regularly. In most cases when a subcontractor was on the job Clint or Dave was here also, but if not, Dave was immediately available by phone if there was a question or issue. 7. Fairness. We made several changes and added additional work after accepting Dave's initial proposal. This is always a concern but we were comfortable doing so because we never felt that we were being taken advantage of but rather that the additional costs were fair and competitive. 8. Response to Problems. A remodel project always has unexpected problems. When we found a clogged drain, received an incorrect shower door, and discovered that the exhaust/heater unit we selected was not immediately available, Dave was able to provide a solution without an unreasonable delay in the project. We had a leaky shower in the master bath several weeks after the project was completed. The manufacturer sent a new part but Dave and Clint came back to install it and fix the problem with charge.

Dave was a great help from day one, I've never done a project like this and was overwhelmed. Dave came to the house and gave me some ideas of what could be done in the price range I was hoping for. On top of that he meet me at the tile store and assisted in picking tile and colors that made the area pop! We selected 12" X 24" tile for the walls with some glass tiles at eye level for a little contrast. I opted for a custom recessed shampoo shelf and a soap dish which really worked out great. The bathroom floor was done in 18" tiles with matching tile baseboard. I was impressed with his knowledge of plumbing fixtures as well!! I love my new shower trim and I now have one of the best shower heads that I've ever used. The best part is my new Kohler toilet seat that lights up at night, I never knew that anyone even made one. Love it!! I was impress with their work from start to finish, I got home the first day and thought that didn't show. It wasn't until I walked into the bedroom and found the walls stripped down to the studs and the floor down to the slab. NOT a spec of dust or dirt anywhere to be seen. They finished the project in the time frame he had give me and within budget, the work is perfect and I couldn't be happier. I would recommend Interior Remodeling By Simmons to anyone looking for above average work at an affordable price.

The project went very well. The initial cost, schedule, and incremental payment plan were fair and reasonable. There were a few design changes along the way to accommodate load-bearing walls, and we added some scope to the project of about 30% as it progressed. Despite the design changes and added scope, Simmons was able to hold initial schedule, getting us into the space before visitors arrived at Christmas. Having enjoyed the new space for almost 4 months now, we are still very pleased with the design and product choices and Simmons' superb implementation. We rated Simmons at the top of all categories except price. I don't consider the "Good" rating on price to be a "downrating". It simply means that we probably could have got the project done more cheaply. I'm doubt that we could have got the same quality of service for a lower price elsewhere. We especially enjoyed the working relationship Dave and Cliff and the rest of the team. They tolerated our daily "oversight" and requests for small changes in the details along the way. Cliff's attention to fit and finish and his daily efforts to keep the work site clean were greatly appreciated.

They were beyond fantastic. He gave us a lot of his time to figure out what we liked and what we wanted. The decision making was very difficult for us and he made suggestions that made it perfect for us. The work was done efficiently, stayed on top of everything, kept in contact with us, and answered us back right away for several months. We now have a beautiful home.

service and actual results are great. everyone showed up when they were supposed to, went with me to pick out tile, faucets, etc. nice, nice competent people. definitely will use them again.

Work was completed as promised and we are very happy with the result.

I called David to request an estimate to re-do my popcorn ceiling in the family room. He seemed less than excited for the opportunity, but agreed to come out and give me a quote a few days later. The day of the appointment, David did not show for the appointment nor did he call as a courtesy.

Tell the story from start to finish? There was no start and therefore no finish!

This was the second project we used Simmons for (they remodeled our master bath in 2010) and we were once again very pleased with the results. I suspect other contractors may work faster, but we were far less interested in speed than in responsiveness and quality, which is what we received. Simmons uses only three people -- Dave Simmons, his brother Clint and Sinad [I don't know his last name] -- and they are all excellent craftsmen. The tile, the new windows and doors, the mirrors in the wetbar, the countertops and cabinets all look great, with top-notch "fit and finish". We couldn't be happier with the quality of both the materials and the workmanship. Another factor that is very important to me is responsiveness. Inevitably, unexpected problems arise during any major renovation project, and even though we tried to avoid asking for changes during the project (I'm well aware that changes cost money and can slow a project down), it is almost impossible to avoid changing at least a few things along the way. When problems arose (e.g., a cracked drain pipe under the tub in the 2nd bath) or when we had changes we wanted to make, Dave Simmons was always upfront about the time and costs involved. And the prices for the additional work were always very reasonable -- in fact, it was clear that Dave was really just charging his own additional costs whenever we had to make changes to the contract. I never felt like I was being taken advantage of or gouged, and that's really important to me. I trust Simmons, and I've now been pleased with their work on two major projects. The next time we have a major project, Simmons will again be the first contractor I call.

I loved working with Dave! We worked on the design together and he had a lot of creative input on the layout and materials. I also felt very comfortable that the price was a good value for the quality of the work. Dave stands by his work and the work of his brother Clint. I have now been using my shower for 6 months and I love walking into every day and have never had a problem. After I got the quote, when Clint took out the old shower he found that a lot more reinforcement work would need to be done than they had anticipated due to the weight of the new shower that would need to be supported (and the minimalist approach of the builder). It took them almost a week to install support beams in the floor, but Dave did not raise the price from his original quote. The tile workmanship is immaculate! The guys also had some great ideas on the transition zone between the shower and bathroom tile as well as the listelle. They also suggested putting the granite from the sink countertop on the benches to tie in the shower to the countertop - I love it! It was really fun working with these guys and it felt like a team effort designing all the little details. The quality of the work is simply outstanding and I love showing my remodel to friends and neighbors.

The job went great. Very caring, professional and neat crew. They really cared about doing a great job and took great pride in their work. I highly recommend this company.

The work turned out very well. I interviewed 4 contractors and I felt comfortable with this company. They are family owned and do very good work. The work was very high quality. They were a little slow at finishing but they were very deliberate and worked very carefully. They always listened to us and when we had changes they were very fair about it. I'd rather pay a little more money and have it go slower to have it end up exactly the way I wanted. I will probably use them again in the future.

Dave, Clint and Senad were excellent craftsmen who arrived on time; completed the needed work; and then left a neat work area. They were helpful with ideas and very patient when I was having trouble making decisions. The job started on the date promised and was finished at the scheduled date. I am delighted with the finished job and have recommended them to friends and neighbors

The estimate was for installing the tub, putting the tiles and everything for the remodeling. He was very nice and very knowledgeable. He had some good ideas and gave us the quote on it. His bid was not the lowest. There is another bigger bath remodel company that we are using for this work. He came out and worked it out very nicely. He was on time.
