We were having water accumulation in the bottom of our freezer. The E&J service tech arrived and diagnosed the problem immediately. He cleared out the defrost drain, which fixed the problem. E&J only charged us their minimum cost for visit and diagnosis.

Owner answered phone. Pleasant. Appointment soon after. Repairman pleasant. The second part came quickly. The repairman returned -- a few minutes before the agreed-upon range of time, actually. The range works fine now. The repairman was slightly more attentive to my wife than to me, which taught me to appreciate her more.
Description of Work: Repairman inspected our electric range and our pre-ordered replacement part. He analyzed problems, recommended a solution, explained how the top burners work, and unplugged our range for safety while we waited for delivery of a second replacement part. He answered our queries, such as "What is involved in disassembling the oven door to clean the inside of the glass?" We decided not to do it. The repairman later installed both replacement parts. There was no mess left over.

The owner of the company showed up right on time to fix my washer. I thought it was probably a switch or someting else that would require parts and be very expensive but once I told him the problem he diagnosed and fixed the problem by adjusting the drain hose. Another company would have probably changed out a lot of parts and still not fixed the problem. Well worth the price of a service call.
Description of Work: Serviced my washer. The water would run constantly but would never fill the tank. Diagnosed and fixed very quickly at a fair price.

The washer, based on outside web reviews and E&J external visual inspection only, calls this one "DOA". No actual repair was performed as estimated cost to fix far outweighed life expectancy. We would give these folks another shot as we feel we paid less for E&J's advice (Walter and Ernies) as compared to Sears mandatory $130 for certified on-site view of washer prior to honoring life time warranty on suspect tub. E&J quickly scheduled for next day visit by professional, knowledgeable Walter and followed up with quote quicker than promised. Window for work time very helpful to schedule around. Though I found my circumstances frustrating with the lemon, I liked the up front honesty in all 3 associates I came in contact with: Brenda, Walter and Alan. All my direct questions specific to our washer as well as my options were answered with detailed balanced answers. No "blowing smoke" for the sale in my experience wtih these good folks. Much appreciated discount via Angie's coupon. Thanks again. We are opting for purchasing a new washer.
Description of Work: Issue: Sears 2002 Kenmore Calypso lemon/"problem child" washer "OB" warnings, off center loud spins and outright stoppage. Kenmore Calypso's seem not to be a common washer for others via web comments and E&J visibility to the same. The company was able to give me a two hour window for when they would show up and called when they were on their way. This is important to me because I can't afford to wait for 4 to 6 hours and miss that much work, there's no one else that I can depend on to meet the technician.
Description of Work: examined the dishwasher and deternined that there was nothing wrong with the dishwasher itself but recommended using a powder to get rid of the buildup and gave me a sample of the product to use.

Problem with icemaker making hollow ice on a GE refrigerator. Excellent response time. They had cancellations that day and came out within 1 1/2 hours. The technician was very nice and arrived earlier than expected. He said our icemaker went bad and replaced it. He was in and out w/in a half hour. After a weekend of making ice, it was still creating hollow ice. They rescheduled the same technician to come back. He replaced another icemaker and that seemed to work. My only issue was the price. $250 for a service call and part seems very steep. They did not charge me for the return service call. My advice would be to ask what the service call charge is before hiring.

I was very impressed with the vast knowledge of appliances by this company. The repair and installation of parts for a range/oven, refrigerator, and clothes washer went very quickly and expertly. I highly recommend them and will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Parts for the doors on my GE range/oven and GE refrigerator were ordered and installed. The oven thermastat was calibrated. A water hose for the clothes washer was secured.

We were very happy with them. They came out 30 minutes after we called, which we were stunned. They apparently had a cancellation and were able to come right out, which was great. We were hoping that we would get fast service, but we were pretty amazed at them. But they had said that there was a cancellation and so it was no problem to come out. It was $99 for the part and $99 for the labor so it was a little over $200. We were not sure if the refrigerator was still under warranty because it came with the house that we just bought. They said the refrigerator was about 6 years old. When the fellow looked at it, he knew exactly what it was. He told us that he had replaced a lot of those. He went right into the freezer and could tell the problem. He replaced that part and defrosted the freezer which we didn't even know was having problems and that was it. It has run fine since. He knew his business and he knew exactly what was wrong. He said that the part apparently always went out and it wasn't anything that we had done.
Description of Work: E & J Appliance Service came out a couple of weeks ago and replaced a malfunctioning defroster part. Our refrigerator was not cooling.

2 prior service calls from another company had not diagnosed the problem, and this company came right away, immediately saw the probable cause, and replaced a faulty starter for me. While the compressor may need to be replaced in the future, had this been done when the initial problem occurred (had been inadvertently left ajar while on vacation), there would have been much less stress on the compressor over the ensuing 8 months of starting and stopping. I highly recommend this company for prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable refrigerator repair.

The people from E & J were so fantastic. They were very convenient and very quick. They fixed the problem in a very timely manner. My ice maker works perfectly now. I gave them thorough instructions and they were very well prepared. They couldn't have been more pleasant.

This is the first time I haven't been thrilled with a company I've found through Angie's List. E &J did complete the work, but the whole process took almost a month to finish. They came out and figured out what was wrong with the dishwasher and ordered the part. Unfortunately, the wrong part was ordered, so it had to be reordered. At that time, I suggested we tentatively set up a future appt for one week later. I had to call them twice to find out the part was in stock and then the day I suggested was already booked, so we had to make an appt for the day after, which was Saturday. When they came by, we didn't hear them ring the bell, so we missed them. However, I called him back within 15 minutes to let him know we were home--never could reach him, so we had to reschedule for Monday. I guess I was annoyed because when a mistake is made, like ordering the wrong part, I feel all efforts should be made to get the new part quickly and installed quickly, and that didn't seem to happen with E & J. Also, the labor charges were by the half hour, and the man who came out was quite talkative, increasing the time he was at our home. He also took a personal call during one of his visits. He was so talkative that I suspect that is why the wrong number was written down and the wrong part ordered. On the plus side, I felt they were honest and had integrity, and were knowledgable. But a month is just too long to get a repair completed.
Description of Work: Our dishwasher had standing water in the bottom after running and was not cleaning well. E and J replaced the drain pump and also replaced the spark module on our range.

I did order the wrong part the first time from GE and that is why when I got the correct parts we set up for a Saturday appointment. Sometimes it takes several weeks to get a part from GE if it is not in stock. I am sorry it took so long as we try to get every part in a timely manner. As far as the Saturday appointment, we normally do not work on the weekends so when we got no answer at the home I sent the tech home for the day. I do not allow my techs to take personal calls when in the home, so I will address this problem with my tech. Ernest, the "E" in E & J, showed up on time, diagnosed the problem and had the repair completed in less than half an hour. He was pleasant, and did the job in a clean and quick manner. He gave me a promotional brochure describing the company. The brochure includes a $10.00-off coupon good on the first service call. I asked Ernest if this was indeed the first service call, and he said "yes" and knocked $10.00 off the bill! Service like this almost makes you wish something would break. Almost, but not quite...

My dryer quit heating although the drum still turned. Walt came out, spent about an hour, and determined that my 240 outlet wasn't making a good connection. That was it. No parts, no need for follow-up, and my dryer worked again. Very good diagnostician - no unnecessary expense for parts I didn't need. Great experience.

The dishwasher was not filling. Although I asked if there was anything simple that I check the phone answerer said they needed to see the dishwasher. So I waited for person to come the next day. The person arrived looked in the diswasher and found a spoon that held the drain closed. This took about 10 seconds. Then ran the dishwasher to see if it filled. It did in about 3 minutes. He then laughed and said this was easy day. I guess it was since he could told me over the phone problem and Charged me $98 plus time waiting for him to arrive. A very bad experience. I had used E&J before and they were good. What a disappointment.

We are sorry he feels he was overcharged. We can't know what is wrong without checking out the unit. Normally water not coming in is a inlet valve part. We charge $98.95 for a trip charge and 30 min labor. We tell all customers this when they schedule. Fortunately the repair was simple and did not need parts or additional labor.

The heating element on my water heater was no longer working. Since the water heater was just over a year old, I questioned why it had broken so quickly both on the phone and later when the repairman - Ernie (owner/repairman) came to my house. My previous heater had lasted ten years so I knew that something was up. He took me thru some options to help determine what was happening (specifically, checking for a foundation leak and looking at my water recirculator). It ends up that I have extremely hard water and the cheaper elements put in heaters these days just can't stand up to it. The solution is to put a heavier duty, non-standard element in my unit. The problem was solved and I now know what's going on when it stops heating water much quicker than seems reasonable. One end note however: Ernie unplugged my recirculator when he was working on the hot water heater. He forgot to plug it back in so I had a couple of days wondering if something was still wrong before I figured it out (I had checked to see that the timer was on correctly, but never traced the wire/plug back to make sure it was plugged in). When I called to ask about what was happening, Ernie told me that some deposits may have broken free and to clean out the shower sprayer nozzles. Although it probably wasn't a bad thing to do as regular maintenance, this took some doing and didn't solve the problem. Finally went out again, looked thru the recirculator book, and when messing around with that, discovered that it was unplugged. This was an unnecessary hassle.
Description of Work: My hot water heater was not heating the water adequately. The lower element was replaced.

I had recently installed a second-hand high end Kitchen Aid range, but the oven would not ignite. The company sent a very knowledgeable and personable tech, Andrew, who was quite punctual, and determined that the igniter was malfunctioning. At my request, he also checked the oven door which was missing a part. When he found out while ordering the igniter that the door part was no longer made, he reviewed my options with me. I decided to proceed with the repair, and when Andrew returned to install the igniter, he discussed the pros and cons of other solutions for the non-available door part. Andrew gave me great information so I was able to make an informed choice. I was very satisfied with the service. And of course, I can now bake again!

Took three visits to finally get dryer working. On third visit, technician said that prior technician had not properly secured a connection and that it vibrated loose when we started the dryer, but was still connected when the tech left. We subsequently found 4 screws in the drum. Technician came back and apologized for leaving screws to top in drum and not putting them back. Next day, we found another screw but did not call them back. They responded quickly when called and were courteous. They appeared to know what they were doing, but attention to detail was lacking. We expected to use the dryer on the weekend, but had to go to a laundromat instead.
Description of Work: Dryer not heating. Replaced the "glow plug" and the door switch.

I was extremely impressed. Very friendly on the phone. They were able to schedule an appointment for the next day. The repair tech called to tell me he was on his way and showed up just minutes into the 2-hour window. He needed to order a part but called me an hour later to schedule another appointment. He showed up right on time again and was in and out in 15 minutes. Excellent service. I would definitely use this company again.
