It was very pleasant in the beginning. After they signed the contract we had a few issues in terms of communication. I was very unhappy with the size of the plant they planted. They definitely did not treat them well. I guess in a couple of months it would make much of a difference.

Charlie Goodwin designed a clean and functional patio that we desperately needed. He made best use of our budget - where to spend money to get a bigger bang and where to spend less. This company is not like most I have dealt with in Phoenix. They are punctual, professional, and really go the extra mile to complete the job with the highest quality at a competitive price. I could not have asked for more from this company.

They were fast and efficient. They brought in good quality plants. My husband priced out three providers and they were the most expensive but for the quality he felt he did not over pay. We would continue to use their services again in the future. They come once every month. When they come once a month they clean the yard, cut the trees, trim the trees, blow the yard, pick up the residue, leaves etc that is on the ground and take it away.

Charlie was very personable and was attentive as we described what we would like to do with our yard. He was on time for our initial appointment. He prepared and presented the design for our yard within a few days. We had questions about some of the materials and plants he was including. He adjusted/changed some of the items and gave us a revised bid price. My husband and I reviewed Charlie's bid as well as 2 other bids we had received and, unfortunately, had to let him know we had chosen another design. While his design was professional and well done, we felt the firm we chose gave us better value for our dollars.

The design was better than anticipated and much cheaper. The only one snag was they cut my cable TV lines while adding rocks and plants the side of the house. Simple mistake. I brought it to their attention and they paid to fix it without any question. Its been over a year and there has been no reason problems. Even the lights are still working without a bulb change. I will use the guys again to clean up my front patio and landscape!

We decided late to do a major renovation of our landscaping for a graduation party we were having at our home. We contacted several landscaping companies and obtained bids from most. We had a tight timeframe but all companies that bid indicated they could make it work. However, Rob at Desert Designer was the only bidder that acted as if he really wanted our business, which surprised us given the size of the project. While not the low bidder, we decided to go with the person that actually seemed interested in doing our job and doing it as if it was his own home. He also worked with us to help us get what we needed within our budget. As mentioned, we had a very tight timeline but Rob made adjustments to the schedule to make sure it was going to be completed on time. His crews were courteous, efficient and cleaned up every evening to minimize our inconvenience. As with all projects we encountered some unexpected issues, several of which we caused. Rob and his crew made the necessary adjustment and the entire project was completed on time for our party even to the point of personally delivering a last minute item the morning of the party. All I can say is you would be making a mistake if you didn’t give Desert Designers serious consideration for your next landscaping project.

Desert Designer Landscape Design and Development is fast. They are family operated with a crew. They are honest and reasonable. His was not the cheapest, but the job that he did was done directly by him and was not outsourced. They were quick and completed everything in two days. Everything works nice and the warranty is upheld.

It looks absolutely incredible!! Tom came first came out to my house to see what he was dealing with and to discuss estimated costs and materials. A few days later he had a design for me all drawn up in detail. He was ready to get to work even before I was (I had to wait on a roof replacement before getting the yard done). The work took only one day and my yard went from dead grass and dirt to desert beautiful! It looks great and makes a huge difference in the overall appearance of my home. They replaced the existing sprinkler system with bubblers for each plant and they also widened the driveway with a paver stone border for more parking.

We first met Steven (Landscape Architect) from Desert Designer and we discussed some basic ideas or changes we would like. We met again with Steven a couple days later and he provided multiple plans/ideas for our landscape. He was very patient as we discussed the various designs and we ended up making minor modifications to one of his designs. They showed up on time as promised and completed the yard quickly and on time. They did an excellent job of modifying the patio, adding plants, re-routing our sprinkler / drip system and completing the side yard. The fire pits or fire bowls he designed are absolutely stunning which makes the space. Steven was great I would call him each night when I arrived home from work to either ask questions or point out something we would like to have done. He was responsive and helpful in designing and managing the landscape work. He also came out to walk the project with us and answer any questions or address any issues. In the end, we had three bids to do this work and Desert Designer was a slightly more in price however they provided a bid that was itemized, matched the landscape plan that they had designed themselves and were responsive before, during and after the process.

The thing was that we got off to a slow start because of poor communication, as the person who did the quote got sick. Once they got rolling, everything went great. There were some small blemishes in the project, but they came right out and took care of it and we have a two year guarantee on the work.

Very well. Tom Smith, one of the owners, was friendly and knowledgeable arriving on time (not within a multi-hour period) and bringing with him photos of prior jobs and plant types as well as gravel samples. The quote included a drawn design (which was provided to me after I committed to the job) and a detailed, multi-page estimate, both of which helped clarify for both myself and the company exactly what was being provided. The job was started on time and ran one day longer than estimated, only because of the magnitude of the job and some impact due to rain. Alvaro led an overall 8-man team in actually executing the plans. They showed up promptly at 7:00AM every morning, working hard until 3:00PM each day except for the last day which went well past 5:00. They impressed me with how hard and professionally they worked, all day every day. They took pains to minimize impact on neighbors and clearly marked delivered materials with an ample number of safety cones. Their work reflected both skill in their respective tasks and a desire to produce a quality product. Despite being an inherently dirty job, the crew always took time to clean up the work areas and sweep off walks and the driveway before leaving each day. The job was just finished yesterday (12/10/09) and I'm very pleased with the end result. I can't comment on follow-up service as I haven't had the need yet. The price was fairly high, relative to other quotes I received, but this is one instance where the quality and professionalism that I saw seem to justify it. I had a fairly clear expectation going into this job and, if anything, it was exceeded. I would recommend Desert Designer without hesitation.

A few days went by and I received a call telling me the crew would be at our house the next week to do the job. The crew came out on a Saturday and knocked out a big portion of the work in one day. They came back on Monday to finish up the hardscape and plants. They had to return 2 days later due to the sod cutting schedule. All in all, it went very well and I was pleased with their services.

Rob Plowright has cancelled or been a no show on several appointments and commitments. He has eventually responded with an explanation of either being sick or having a family concern. I have requested the return of my original landscape plans I had shared with them and they have been very slow to respond.

Rob came out right away to look at our bare backyard to hear what ideas we had for it. He then took our ideas and created a full color design for us to see. He created a great plan that gave us everything we were looking for. A luxury desert themed look with a built in BBQ and a fire pit for entertaining at an affordable price. All costs were itemized so we could easily see how our total cost would be if we added or deleted items; a great help when you're on a budget. The result is stunning, helping to transform an indifferent yard into a new room of the house.
