DON'T pay NRG until you have what you are purchasing. This is the most perplexing interaction with a contractor we have ever had. We got Kris Husa's name from a new friend who recommended him highly. He responded to our first phone call and we set up an energy audit on 2/12/13. He arrived on time, did the energy audit and seemed like a very nice guy. He gave a very short summary of what he'd found, but assured us a detailed report was coming that would explain all of the areas needing work in our home. We agreed he would come back with some of his subs to create a more comprehensive full estimate of what we were looking at to get everything done. We knew we were looking at over $100K to get our home to zero impact. Regardless of this, we were excited and from our initial meeting, the job was his to lose. We paid him the $99 fee and off he went. The next week we started receiving calls directly from his subs instead of him calling to make an appointment to bring all his subs at once for a comprehensive estimate. We felt this was jumping the gun a bit and the sub who called, called saying "I hear you're looking for a new roof" when we hadn't even been able to discuss with Kris if this was actual necessity or not. We told this sub he was a bit ahead of himself and put a call into Kris to see what was going on. It took Kris a week to return this phone call. When he did call, we informed him that communication was the most important thing to us and returning phone calls was part of that. He said "I understand". Unfortunately, nothing was arranged in this phone call and our job obviously went on hold. Two weeks later, after a couple more messages, he returned our call again, and we asked about moving forward and all he wanted to do was show us a house. This was not what we wanted. He said he was busy and would call again. He never called after that. At one month after our energy audit, after not receiving our report or forward motion with Kris, we hired another company to do our job. At this point, we were simply after the initial report which we were owed. We called and left messages to no avail. We finally called our friend that recommended him and he must have lit a fire because we received, at the two month point, a refund check and a letter. Here is the contents of the letter: This letter is to notify you due to our schedules not being compatible, we feel that you might be better served, if you found a different energy company t o meet your needs. Please see attached check of $99. We almost had to laugh at this letter. Although it was very nice to receive a refund for the report we did not receive, we want to make it very clear that our schedule was wide open, we are retired and can accommodate anything. Only NRG's schedule was not compatible. It is also interesting to note that on the date of this letter (4/10/13), he felt he was still in the running for the job, which of course he was not... we'd already hired another contractor a month ago. Amazing is all I can say. We were ready to spend tens of thousands of dollars with this company. It was his job to lose, and he did.
