Chuck gave me a great quote and was eager to start the job. He told me one coat of paint would cover the house and promised a beautiful result. I gave him a 50% deposit on the job which was cashed the same day. He had the paint color matched perfectly and began his work last week. The trouble started when he didn't fully mask off the windows and sprayed on a windy day. Several windows and their protective roller-shades have paint overspray which he said would clean up easily. The problem was, he didn't clean them as he went (in fact, he never cleaned up any of his overspray prior to me firing him). I arrived from working out of town yesterday to discover paint overspray and spills on our Trex decking as well as several areas where there was uneven coverage. He again explained that all of that would clean up easily, but did nothing except show me a bottle of windex and a razor scraper. Our stucco contractor showed up yesterday afternoon and immediately remarked that the stucco repairs should have been primed. Chuck disagreed, but the areas look terrible. There were also areas of paint running where he had sprayed too much paint and runs were streaking down the building. I called Chuck last night and told him to stop working, pick up his equipment this morning and leave. His attitude when he came back today was unbelievable. Despite paying him another $1100 for what he told me was the fair portion he was due for labor and paint, he was defensive and argumentative. It rained last night and when I showed him his work from yesterday that had bubbled and run, he blamed it on the rain. Our stucco contractor said he would have never recommended North Country having seen this work. Chuck may do a great job on wood homes, but he will never paint for me again. Lesson learned.
