Was very responsive and profesional. We decided to hold on a bit before doing the project.

Took two attempts to schedule an appointment, but it worked out fine in the end. Designer came to our house, heard what we were attempting to do, took measurements and came back a couple of weeks later with a very nice layout complete with drawings, and plantings list. The plants were very well thought out and colorful. We liked his ideas and they will be the basis of our project when we begin it this summer.

After we discussed what I wanted, the consultant took measurements and gave me an estimate of when he'd have the design ready. He completed the design within a reasonable time frame consistent with his estimate. When he delivered the design he went through the entire proposal plant-by-plant along with a cost for implementing the design. The cost was reasonable, but I was not in a position to implement it at the time. I recommend using this landscape design service to all the Angie's members in the Phoenix metro area.

My initial calls to Harper's were not responded to. I talked to people and left messages but it took almost a month for the landscape architect to meet with us. He was clearly overwhelmed with work. Once we met with him it took over a month (including 2 cancelled appointments) to meet with us to go over the plans. We really like what he came up with and now were waiting for him to return a call so we can get started with the work. The process with Harper's has been VERY SLOW and FRUSTRATING.

Would not use this provider again. They took short cuts installing irrigation. Very lazy and shoddy work. After they collected rest of money, there was never a follow up.

It went fairly well but had its flaws. Since the AL Big Deal covered just one design, my husband and I prepared a single typed page of our design requirements, prioritized them and stated whether each was a must-have or just a nice-to-have-if-it-makes-sense. Scheduling was quick and easy. Mike, who was to do the design, was prompt and very courteous and professional. We walked around the property to see the space Mike would design. Mike and I reviewed the printed list of requirements, which he took with him. As for budget, I told Mike that money isn't shoestring but it's also not unlimited. The good: Within a reasonable time, Mike produced a professional design that included hardscapes and planting. The design was thorough and appealing and included much of what we'd asked for. Mike spent a good amount of time explaining his design to me. The price came in surprisingly lower than I expected. The bad: It was clear why the price came in so low. (1) The design ignored one of our mandatory requirements. The most mature trees and shrubs possible were a top mandatory requirement, but all of the plants -- trees, shrubs, flowers, cactus -- were instead among the smallest sizes I see being sold at Harper's. Just so you understand, my husband and I are both older. I'm not saying that we don't buy green bananas anymore, but we don't have that many years to wait for trees to grow big enough to give us shade where we want it. (2) The design specified a nice variety of plants, but about 80% of them were "freeway plants" -- varieties of plants like lantana that readily grow wild along the Arizona roadsides and whose nursery versions cost just peanuts to grow. I had told Mike that the budget wasn't on a shoestring, so IMHO the design shouldn't have taken this direction on either of these two items. There were other lesser issues as well, but taking just these two into account, the proposal just didn't give us confidence. Clearly we could have negotiated up from here, but we had just one shot at the single-design Big Deal. The thought of having to begin negotiating first to get all of our minimum requirements included, and then to move on from there -- and possibly having to pay for further design sessions -- was discouraging enough that we decided not to go with Harper's for the work.

New landscape was installed according to plan but watering system was not modified as described About 1/3 to 1/2 of the plants died and and about 1/3 of the grass died Some of the plants were replaced free About 1/5 of the plants died again Some plants were replaced but some of the plants were not repaced Workers would show up unexpectedly on the property without notice and not sure what they were doing. Company notified but workers would again show up unannounced. The time between the initial instalization and today has been almost two years and some dead plants have never been replaced. A very disappointing experience and I would not recommend this company and question the value of using Angie's List

When we initially met with the landscape person (a landscape designer who works with Harper's Nursery, not an employee) we told him what our vision was and he took pictures of our existing yard (front, sides, and back) and asked what we liked visually in plants and colors and what we wanted as far as maintenance level. What we got was a basic design. He put in the hardscape my husband described that he wanted, but when we saw his plan we both felt he just plopped in some plants in some of the areas and there were areas around the yard that had no plants at all. Overall, he was very pleasant to talk to and he is probably a very good designer. We now have a good starting point for our landscape design.

My landscape designer, Justin Campbell, was excellent ! He listened to my ideas and came back with a plan that was just what I wanted. The work started when scheduled and completed in a timely manner. We added additional rock to the side yard and changed the original plan from poured concrete edging for the flower beds to pavers to match the new pathway and sides of driveway ( Justin's idea). I was out-of-town and he called to tell me that he had changed this aspect of the plan and I could not be happier. It looks great, much better than the original plan! Justin came out last week to do another inspection and check the plants for frost damage, etc. I am very happy with my new front yard and with Justin's caring and professionalism.

Harper's Nursery & Landscape Co 2529 N Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85257 A schematic plan and cost estimate for landscape design for a one acre lot. The plan was incomplete, lacking in plant location and selection, irrigation layout and lighting(schematic), as discussed in our initial meeting. In our second and final meeting he presented the schematic and a budget that exceeded $63K. He was cordial and pleasant to talk to but disappointed in his proposal.

The plans matched what we had discussed. The pricing for the hardscaping was excellent. I was concerned that there seemed to be too many plants grouped too close together. The landscape architect offered to amend the plans and reduce plant crowding. We haven't moved forward with any landscaping changes yet.

Justin from Harper's came out and reviewed my current landscaping and discussed with me what I wanted changed. He came back several weeks later with a landscape plan and an estimate, which seemed reasonable to me, so I hired them to install the new landscape plan. I had advised Justin that I needed to wait until November 27 or later to have the work done. Nonetheless, several weeks prior to that date, Justin called early one morning to advise me that he had a crew on their way to remove the unwanted plants and the putting green. When I reminded him that I did not want to start the project until the 27th, he suggested that the crew remove the landscaping and let my yard sit all torn up for several weeks over the Thanksgiving holiday. I advised him that was not acceptable. The crew then arrived on Nov. 27 to install the plants and the patio pot and rebuild the sprinkler valves. I was told that the pet grass would be ordered and would take 10 days to arrive. The crew was very nice and professional. I had to remind Justin again what type of pot I wanted, but he did bring out what I wanted. However, I was charged $225 for a pot that sells for $99 at Home Depot. The next morning I woke up to find my patio flooded because of a malfunction with the sprimkler valve. I immediately called Justin and left him a message before leaving the house. When I returned home several hours later, the water was still running and there was no message from Justin. I called him again and when he answered I asked him if he had gotten my message. He said that he saw that I called, but did not listen to the message. I explained the water situation and he told me he would send someone out the next day. I told him that was not acceptable, as water was pouring out of the patio pot all over the patio. Finally, someone came out and fixed the situation. Several weeks went by with no word on the pet grass. I called Justin, who informed me that he forgot to submit the paperwork, but he would do so. Several more weeks have gone by and I still have not heard from Harper's and I still do not have my pet grass.

There isn't much to tell other than they came out, gave an estimate and a drawing of what will need to be done.

He out and discussed with me what I wanted to do. He gathered information regarding my current yard. He created a detailed plan for converting to desert landscaping. I still have not converted my yard. If I do, I will not do it exactly like the plan. I learned what would be involved if I were to convert it. The knowledge I gained was very valuable. It gave me a basis from which to start.

So far, it has gone very well. Mike has been out several times to answer our questions and ensure that we ready to begin work.

Our designer, Justin ,was a pleasure to work with.

Work was scheduled promptly and began on the day we arranged for the front lawn removal. It looked good after, my only concern is they may have skimped on the gravel, as I wish it was a little thicker in certain places. Tree removal went as planned, however there appeared to be some splattering of oil/dirt/whatever on my pool floor as a result of a stump grinder or something. It seems to have faded off with time, but I wish they had been more careful. That being said, they removed a huge tree (and stump) for a very good price. I would definitely use them again, and rate them a A-/B+

The process went smoothly. I called, made an appt. The designer arrived and presented a design when promised. I had told him the main colors I liked and he apparently did not hear me, so the colors were nothing like I wanted. I also talked some about what he had presented inquiring about different textures. He said he would would on my suggestions and gave me the job of finding the plants I wanted. He did make a follow-up call to review his ideas. I did not return the call.

I contacted the Mesa location twice after purchasing the big deal in Sept 2012. I never received a call back. Based on this level of customer sercvice (Or lack of) I detemined I am probably better off cutting my loses and not doing business with this company.

Gave us excellent design plans that exactly what we were looking for. Was very pleased with estimate to complete and gave a reasonable budget number.

Justin came out to my house on a Saturday morning. He was on time, professional, and immediately offered me great ideas on my landscaping. He took several pictures and went over several ideas with me as we walked around my back yard. He even brought his portfolio to show me pictures of plants I wasn't familiar with. Justin and I spent an hour going through my backyard and he addressed my concerns and provided new recommendations to help me create the back yard I was looking for. Two weeks following our initial consultation he came back with plans and went over them in great detail. He worked with me to swap out different plants and he removed the ones I wasn't interested in. Once I was satisfied with the plans I asked him to send me a finalized estimate to go along with the plans. Unfortunately, he did not follow through as I hoped. Although, Justin provided me with great ideas and recommendations, ultimately his follow up fell short.

I have been waiting since October for the drawings. I am disappointed at the wait time but I am anticipating good things from them.

I purchased this Big Deal the beginning of September to give me a plan for some work I wanted done. I called immediately and left a message for them to contact me. The problem was that they were very slow responding. I called them, but they didn't return my call. I called again and after a few days delay, they called me. Unfortunately, I missed that call. It took me a few more days to finally make contact and schedule an appointment. By this time most of the month of September was gone and I was getting very nervous about being able to complete this work by my deadline. Mike, their landscaper, finally came on 9/27. I told him what I wanted, he took notes and measurements. I indicated I needed this plan right away and the work needed to be completed by the end of October. The timing was very tight, but I was given every indication that I'd have the plan back within 2 weeks and they should be able to meet my timeline for the work. That was the last I heard from this company - no phone calls, no emails, nothing. I finally contacted Angie's list and requested a refund. I will never use nor recommend this company to anyone.

I was out of town when the work was being done but I did return to a gorgeous outcome.
