Repair seemed ok, but the following morning in the location where he had put in a new line, there was another huge leak - poly split. I didn't stand over the workman when he was doing the work, but he seemed to be putting in a new section of poly line when I glanced at it. Regardless, a new split in less than 24 hours happened in the same location. I simply called in, spoke to the owner, Kevin, who immediately said unless they replace everything everywhere, they are not responsible, yet the split was in the new section they installed. A reasonable person would expect a response like, "Sorry, we will come back out and remedy it." But not this owner. He just was sure they could do no wrong, and he said he would have his workman call me, which of course he never did. What owner would turn you over to his workman? So they have been paid, he is making excuses and shows no remorse or willingness to fix it, which is all I ask, and then nothing. So my advice to anyone considering this firm is AVOID THEM. Not reputable. Mistakes and having to redo something sometimes happens - nobody faults that, but not standing behind it in less than 24 hours and not even being nice, there is no excuse for that. There are other firms out there who are ethical and care about their customers.

Worker did great job, no complaints. We expected more then one person to be sent to do this job. This was very disappointing as we had trusted the contractor previously based on small work done on time & materials. His quotes are like shooting a moving target. Will never use him again.
Description of Work: We requested a quote for construction of pathway on west side of house looping around to back porch. The quote included additional edging and movement of irrigation lines in the back yard. We told him we were not ready to do additional work and to re-quote pathway only. He submitted a quote 9/27/11. We spoke to him and he offered 7% discount if we could delay until after the 1st of the year, which we approved. I asked for projected date to begin work and He said 1/23/12. The actual start was 1/26/12. We gave a down payment check of $1500.00 at start. Based on the original quote that would leave us owing $903.41 at completion. It's a $500 difference in price but the way it was handled by the owner caused us to lose all trust. As work progressed Kevin came to check and advised us that the irrigation valve box should be moved away from house and relocated at the wall to avoid possible future problems. My husband asked for a 'bottom line' additional cost and Kevin quoted $800.00 without caveats. When the work was completed he sent an invoice for $4314.58 less the $1500 deposit for total of $2814.58. The $800.00 'bottom line' had become $916.35 with an additional charge of $419.85 for concrete work at the driveway that was listed on the quote 10/27/11 but no figure was indicated. I went over totals on the phone and told him we were not happy with how the quote was written and the fact he had not stuck to the $800.00 to move the irrigation box. He made an appointment to come out this morning and pick up a check and discuss the invoice questions we had. When he did not show up at 10am as scheduled I called at 11am and left a message. He called back to say he was home ill with the flu and to give the check to the worker that had done the installation. We found out he was not ill but at a job site. What started out as $3755.17 on the original quote (plus the $800.00 additional work )became $4251.14. He declined t give the 7% disc as he said he had discounted prices and labor already. We have used him for minor irrigation work for 10 years without problem but will never use or refer him again. I was hoping a discussion today could have resolved our concerns but he obviously has gone on to other jobs. We have no complaint with the worker who did the installation and his quality .

Response from GILLIGAN'S PARADISE CREATIONS
Wow... I was utterly surprised to read this review. Wouldn’t you know, it's the only review here. I will always continue to give references and pictures of our work to anyone who requests so. We have been in business over 20 years and care about every single job we do. We take pride in our work and strive to satisfy every client. My employees sometimes get tired of me because I can be almost too meticulous. We are creative, hard working, ethical and do what we say we will do We had serviced (deleted member name) since April 2008 doing their sprinkler repair. We seemed to have a very good business relationship. In fact, she is the one that initially told me she invited us to Angies list and how pleased her and her husband were of our work of being on time and doing what we said we would do. I spent many of friendly visits with them at their kitchen table discussing plans and even other projects not related to landscaping they had done in their home. I measured and created free drawings for them for a couple different projects and gave them approximately 2-3 different estimates on the project we did for them before they settled on exactly they wanted to do. In fact besides the sprinkler repairs we did for them, we had just got done doing a $1,275 fence block project for them 6 months prior to them engaging us on the project in question. They were extremely happy with the price, quality etc. of the block project as well. (deleted member name) seems very detailed in her review, but her numbers are dead wrong and entirely misquoted. I wish I would have known about this situation, but it was never brought to my attention and I did not know about the review until now as I stumbled across it as this was the first time even visiting my profile on Angies list. One thing I find amazing is that she said I never came to the house to pickup the check and do the walk through. I did go to the house, I did a walk through and went over all the charges. I have no idea where she thought I was sick or on another job site. That is just not true. As far as the numbers: * The contract with tax came to $2,903.41 this included the 7% discount already. She maybe had forgotten, but she has several other contracts that show the work without the 7% discount. The discount was an incentive to schedule the work in the slower season, “After the New Year”. We told her the week of January 16th we would be out to start work the following week as we finished up another prior project. We started her project in full communication with her on time on Wednesday (1-25-12) as we finished our other project Monday and Tuesday. * The signed contract between both of us was for grading, dirt removal, haul off / disposal and installing a paver sidewalk. * The contract stated, "Sprinkler reconfiguration / concrete pour & finish on front driveway: Time and material: 45.00 per man hour plus materials. - "This was copied and pasted from our contract". (deleted member name) had asked us to do just a small amount of concrete in the driveway. He told me he used to be a concrete contractor himself. He knows it does not matter how much concrete is poured, the contractor still has to stay at the project to finish the concrete the same amount of time as a large driveway being poured just waiting for the concrete to setup and finish. This is why this was done on a time and material basis because it was the fairest way. The total add-on to the project after the time and material they agreed to came to 194.95 with material and labor. I think (deleted member name) would agree we got this portion of the project done very inexpensive. Since sprinkler pipes are underground and we have no idea what we will run into, this was also done on a time and material basis. As was mentioned in the contract "Sprinkler reconfiguration / concrete pour & finish on front driveway: Time and material: 45.00 per man hour plus materials." As my employee was working, he noticed how old some of the lines, valves etc. were near the house that the (deleted member name) wanted pavers all around them. Instead of completing the pavers and then having to dig up the newly laid pavers in the future to repair things, we found it better to suggest to the (deleted member name) to move things out of the way to save future problems. They asked how much it would be, and I told them with all the copper work and valves it will probably be close to around $800 plus tax, but it will be done on a time and material basis at 45.00 per man hour plus materials as agreed upon. It was possible we could have got this project done quicker and saved them money, but this time we ended up finding the old lines we needed to reconfigure all between 2-3 ft. under the ground. Normally these lines are only 8”-12” below grade and this is something I had no idea we would run into as I tried to give them the estimate of $800. My technician spent one very long day (9.83 man hours total) digging things out, and also ending up using more copper pipe than anticipated with the under ground lines. Total labor was 442.05 & discounted materials came to 655.65 at total of 1,097.70. We came in over estimate because of literally unforeseen deep pipe on the sprinkler / copper work. I guess this is what she means in her review that my quotes are like shooting a moving target. I really do not think it’s fair when our company has done 9 jobs for the (deleted member name) since 2008 and we came in over estimate for good reason by approx. 300.00 on a 4300 job that we should get a bad review, especially when all seemed just fine. Where are all the other good reviews of why she told me she recommended us to Angies list?
