He came and did the job, they did it well. There was nothing extraordinary about them. They did what they were supposed to do and did it well.
Description of Work: I used the "Big Deal" for the services of Precision Garage Doors. They adjusted the two garage doors.

I bought the service as a coupon on Angie's list. I had 6 months to use it. The service person came out at the appointed time and performed the purchased service and made some recommendations to improve my opener. I took him up on the upgrades and he did those tasks at that time. All in all it was a very good experience.

I was having trouble with my garage door -- it wouldn't go up or down without coaxing and pushing the button several times with several starts and stops. I bought a tune-up service call thinking they would evaluate what was wrong and advise me accordingly. The repairman told me that the springs needed replacing, that they were old and dangerous and told me of the horrors of them snapping. I wanted the door to work properly and safely, so I gave the OK on the spot. $803.24 later (plus the cost of the tune-up that I had paid for separately), the door did not work any better. The repairman then said that the opener motor was worn out and needed replacing -- for approximately another $460 more. I did not continue with further service, but contacted another vendor to replace the opener motor. The spring replacement appears to be fine so I don't have any issues with the quality of the repairwork that was done, but after reading some of the reviews and what other people have paid for repairs and work, I feel the repair work was a little on the expensive side. I should have asked more questions and done my research before I gave the ok to do the work.
Description of Work: Garage door tune-up; diagnose why the door wasn't working propely; replace the springs and spring assembly.

Bad experience. The tech removed both the broken spring and the good spring from above the door and indicated that whenever they replace the springs they also replace the cables at the same time. He also indicated that all 3 bearings needed to be replaced. By the time he had finished, he was up to $557.38 for the repair ($299.98 plus tax for 2 springs, $79.99 plus tax for a set of cables, and $129.99 plus tax for a set of 3 bearings). He also suggested that I upgrade all of the rollers from plastic to nylon at an additional cost of $149.99, even though there was nothing wrong with the existing rollers. I decided to get some other estimates and paid him his $55.00 service fee. After speaking to several other service providers and researching the internet, I have since found out that cables do not have to be automatically replaced when the springs are replaced. In my case, the cables were fine and did not need to be replaced at all. In addition, only the end bearings needed to be replaced. I ended up using another service provider and the total cost for the replacement of the 2 springs and 2 bearings was $312.12.

I would not use them in the future. I felt that we got overcharged.
Description of Work: I'm not sure that I got a good deal. I was up sold an entire door refurb. The price seemed high and I later found out that this company had been exposed in a scam years prior (60 minutes type investigation). They had been exposed for overselling parts that did not need to be replaced. If I had known this I would not have used them. I trusted the Angie's list recommendation and I'm not sure why they were considered based on this investigation. Beware.

Not exceptional service, but nothing bad. I have no complaints. There were some attempted upsells, but I didn’t take them up on it. They knew what they were doing, and of course everyone has to make a buck, so I don’t blame them.

I just don't feel good about this experience... This may not be fair as I agreed to all services - I believe they were required - but I still feel like I've been upsold and taken. Called around to see what it would cost to get a broken spring replaced. The girl on the phone was very hard to pin down on pricing (this was a common trait with all companies that I called). The best I could get was that a new spring would cost $100 and the service call would be free if they did the work. The tech arrived a little late (I had to call them 15 mins before my service window expired to make sure they were coming). He was professional and knew what he was doing. He took a look at the door and went through what needed to be replaced, what I might want to replace given their wear. Once the agreed upon work started he was extremely fast and all work was completed in close to 45 mins. My issue was all the up-selling and the fact that I was thinking that the service would cost close to $100 dollars. Things like the required cable ($80) and shop supplies ($30) should have been communicated when I was on the phone. And $30 for shop supplies is highway robbery... other than the parts that I bought, the only supplies used was spray silicon.
Description of Work: Replaced (1) large broken spring on my 2 car garage door with (2) smaller (and apparently properly sized) springs and 1 cable set. I also agreed to replace a plastic bushing that was wearing and also replaced all the steel rollers with nylon ones.

The installer arrived on time and completed his work in a reasonable time frame. New rollers were installed on my garage door. The installer did not have oil to lube the rollers, however he made an appointment to come by the next day to complete the job. In addition to performing the service he went above and beyond by helping me take care of other items around the house (changing light bulbs, removing an old satellite dish from the front of my house, reprogramming my keypad and homelink buttons in my car.) I would defenitely use them again or refer friend and family to them.

I would highly recommend this company because of their response and quality of work from start to finish!
Description of Work: We called because the garage door was sticking. The company responded to our call quickly and professionally. They showed us the problem and ended up replacing the springs and the bearings. They showed us how if they had gone unnoticed and not corrected, the replacement cost would have been much worse. They also guaranteed their work.

My automatic garage door, installed brand new in Aug 2006, was working fine but rattled a bit. The "complete system diagnosis" consisted of listening to the sound of the door operating. From that, the imminent failure of the main springs was predicted with an offer to replace them with "long term" springs - presumably for an extra charge. I declined. The "lube and adjust all moving parts" consisted of spraying silicone lubricant at them from an aerosol. I could probably have bought a can of the same spray for $8 or less. Perhaps no "adjustments" were needed. I must have failed to notice the "door balance check" and the "21 point safety check". But they did decorate several surfaces in my garage with colorful advertising decals before leaving. To be fair, this was only a special offer. A contracted project might well be completed satisfactorily. And my springs have not failed yet!
Description of Work: - Complete system diagnosis - Lube and adjust all moving parts - Balance your door for proper weight - 21-point safety check - Issue a warranty for work completed

The services performed were completed quickly and the doors performed smoothly and quietly afterwwards. There was a question about the coupons (Big Deal) that were purchased prior to the service and what was actually covered. A discussion with the Service Tech and a call to the company straightened things out quickly to my satisfaction. Now months later the doors continue work well with no problems. The money spent was more than I had expected, however it was money well spent as the doors are now working well and won't need replacing for a while. I would do business with Precision Garage door Service again.
Description of Work: Had a tuneup service performed on a 7' and 16' multi section garage door. Also replaced all rollers with new nylon rollers and based on discussions with the service tech, added metal bracing to 2 panels that were cracked and sagging. This option was cheaper than replacing the panels and extended the life of the door.

Scheduled and showed up with no problems. The serviceman seemed a bit either standoffish or confused about why he was here. I explained that I felt that the unit needed serviced due the kind of noise and the volume of noise it makes when used. When he was finished with whatever he did it did not lesson the sounds whatsoever and he said that there was nothing he could do about it. I asked if he thought that it was going out and he said that it probably has maybe 1+ year before it does. Definitely felt like a waste of money.

Precision Garage Door Service is a total rip-off. I called them few months back for a bent strut/frame. They told that it was a bad spring and rollers that is causing the issue and needs replacement along with the bent strut. I agreed and paid $800 for the fix..they stated a life time warrantly !! But the same issue re-occured recently and I called them...they started stating issue with other parts that needs replacement . I insisted on just fixing the parts that they last changed and was covered as part of warranty... they replaced the top strut after much arguing. They seemed very unprofessional and just replaced the bent strut just for the heck of it. When asked why didn't they figure out the issue the first time they came - they gave me a classic answer "it was a different technician who worked on it and I cannot answer for that guy!..even though they work for the same company " They start stating about parts that needs replacement which infact is not required to be replaced. Absolute rip-off and unprofessional attitude.
