Rob and his son and crew do fantastic design and work with pavers. He came by promptly to talk about our project, discussed options, and gave us a very reasonable quote. When it was time to start, they showed up on time with all the equipment and materials. He walked us through the timeline and checked in with my husband frequently. We are very happy and have since hired him for two more jobs. We now have a gorgeous paver driveway, back walkway and patio addition, and front walkway. We get compliments from neighbors all the time. Plus, he’s a super nice guy!

I met Rob while he was installing pavers at a neighboring property and was impressed with his work. I hired Rob to remove an existing asphalt driveway leading to my garage and install approximately 2,200 square feet of pavers. The job was completed in about two weeks. I met Rob each morning before he started work and discuss the plan for the day, and then again in the afternoon to review the progress of the day. Rob was always very professional. I had a general idea of what I wanted the new driveway to look like and Rob guided me through the process and offered a lot of suggestions for improving the size, shape, and drainage of the new driveway. I wanted to install an irrigation line under the driveway and Rob helped to make that possible. Rob used sand excavated from the driveway to make sand for the paver joints and the color matches the pavers and my landscaping perfectly. We have had a few rainstorms since installing the new pavers and the driveway is sloped perfectly so water drains away from the garage and into an arroyo. Rob also designed the driveway with curves and bends to complement the native Sonoran Desert landscape. I really like the 8” x 8’ pavers that he used as a border. It gives the driveway a nice, finished look. Rob and his workers are very friendly and easy to talk to and I give Rob my highest recommendation.

We hired Rob Mathiesen (Arizona Pavers Guy) to replace our concrete driveway with Pavers. Rob gave us a competitive estimate, clearly described how he would do the job, and was happy and willing to show us other Paver installations that he had done. We visited one location (a restaurant) where he had recently installed Pavers and were very impressed with the quality of workmanship. Once we decided to hire Rob there was a delay before he was able to begin the work because of the demands of other projects he was working on. However, once he got started on our driveway he dedicated his full efforts to the project and the end result was clearly worth the wait. Rob is a highly skilled master craftsman with more than 30 years experience working with Pavers. He and his very seasoned and capable assistant Rola did virtually all of the work (a sub-contractor broke up and hauled away some of the concrete). From diligently preparing and setting the grade/slope of the surface to artfully placing the tri-shaped Pavers it was obvious that Rob was creating a project that he would be proud of and would stand the test of time. Creating a proper base/foundation for the Pavers is essential and arguably was the most time consuming phase of the entire project. Rob’s technique includes the use of recycled concrete to form the base and requires a significant amount of work to complete small sections and ready them for the installation of the Pavers. This was where his many years of experience were crucial to the resulting high quality of the overall project. We were amazed at the exacting demands that were involved in ensuring that each section of our driveway would be seamlessly and solidly connected together. Building a driveway from Pavers that will remain structurally sound and attractive for decades requires an immense amount of skill and experience. Rob is a tireless craftsman who approaches his work as if he is doing it for his own home. He does not take shortcuts and is not satisfied until each phase of the project is competed to his exacting standards. Our new driveway is beautiful and we have already been receiving many flattering comments from our neighbors! We highly recommend Rob (Arizona Pavers LLC – Arizona Pavers Guy) and encourage anyone who is considering installing Pavers for a driveway, patio, etc., to give him a call.

Rob & Roland did a great job with paving our driveway and side of house. They arrived late mornings to do the noisy part of the paving process to not disturb neighbors. Worked very hard throughout the day. Rob has a great eye on what design will work and give good suggestions. A very fair price and high quality materials. We highly recommend his services and hope we can post our photos. We were so happy he recycled our concrete for the base. Thank you!

My review very much reflects the experience of another reviewer from 12/8/2014. There are many, many paver contractors out there and choosing one is difficult. Many are associated with landscaping services. I wanted a contractor who's specialty craft is paver installation. One of the deciding factors for me was that Arizona Pavers recycled the concrete from my driveway for use in the base. The owner, Rob, was fantastic to work with and personable. He explained thoroughly what he would do and gave me a competitive cost estimate. He did not try to push me or oversell. During the project he kept me updated and was very happy to answer my questions. Rob arranged to have my existing carport and driveway concrete removed. They did an excellent job. Rob is very meticulous and thorough. Most of the work is in the base, and he definitely took care to do it right. I have every confidence that my new driveway has a solid foundation to last. He also put in a new walkway with a slight curve, which makes it more complicated. The result is great. My neighbors have been impressed with the entire project and they recognize Rob's attention to detail. Rob only required payments in increments as work was completed, which was nice. I appreciate not paying a large chunk up front before work even started.

This is going to sound like an ad for Arizona Pavers, but the truth is they earned it. And we're really customers, not Rob's brother-in-law or the like. The original, base job was to tear out an approximately 1400 s.f. drive and entry walk, which were about 50% asphalt and 50% concrete, and replace the areas with pavers, for which the bid was $8950 (this also included a tiny area that had some pavers in it which we removed so everything would match). In the end, we were so happy with the outcome that we expanded the job by another ±1000 s.f. for which Rob actually lowered the s.f. price in order to make it feasible. As it happened, the stone we chose happened to be one of the less expensive styles, which certainly helped the bottom line (not the way my luck usually goes). We began the exercise by selecting four pave-stone companies from Angie?s list. Our criteria were A-rating from prior Angie?s users, and a clean AZ Registrar of Contractors record. The spread of bids was remarkable, the highest being almost $20,000 for the same job! Rob?s bid was so much lower that we were skeptical. While he had an A-rating, he also had the fewest comments posted, so we asked to see other work he had completed. That work was excellent to our eyes, so we decided to give Rob a chance. It turned out to be the right decision. Rob does the work himself with his helper Rola, which probably accounts for his ability to bid as he does. Both of them were incredibly personable, friendly people and were very easy to work with. As a result, not only did we get to know them, so did many of our neighbors. The work was done with great care, and the result surpassed our expectations. And Rob never nickel-and-dimed us. There were a couple of small special circumstances that arose, and Rob graciously offered to simply take care of them for us. Would we hire him again? Recommend him to neighbors? We already have. Our neighbors were so impressed with the outcome that two of them had their driveways done by him, too, and others are considering having him do theirs in the future. We live off of a private drive, and the HOA has decided to hire Rob to do the entire drive. If you are considering installing pavers, we would make one suggestion. There are two kinds of sand that can be installed between the finished pavers: natural sand and polymeric sand. We went with the poly-sand. The pluses: 1. Poly-sand comes in colors, so it could be coordinated to work with the pavers, whereas natural sand is the typical light tan color. It's like picking the grout to go with your floor tile. 2. Importantly, unlike natural sand, poly-sand hardens in place, not as hard as grout, but hard enough to resist your fingernail pushing into it. Natural sand acts like sand everywhere: wind can blow portions away and rain can wash it away, so natural sand has to be supplemented over time. Poly-sand, being hard, isn't eroded by wind and rain. Plus, it keeps weeds from growing between the stones. The minuses: 1. Natural sand allows rainwater to percolate between the stones, poly-sand little or none. So if rainwater drainage is an issue for you, go with natural sand. 2. Poly-sand costs more (a) as a product, and (b) is more difficult to install (Rob's not a fan), so it's an upgrade, though not an expensive one. Bottom line: Rob's a find. We recommend him, and we wish him well.

My project started on a Friday, dug-out the dirt from the yard, that weekend we had a downpour of rain. Robert came out later on Sunday to check out the yard. They were out on Monday and started again, the yard was nothing but mud. Robert and his crew are hard workers and very Professional. They did exactly what I wanted and also gave me some ideas. I had my front yard done by Arizona Pavers three years ago and I was very pleased with the work and called them for this big project of mine. I would definably recommend Arizona Pavers. It looks so beautiful.
